Huckabee hits Obama
Mike Huckabee joined in the media-bashing tonight, saying that Sarah Palin is being treated unfairly, then quickly turned to trying to tear down Democratic nominee Barack Obama.
Obama, while a historic figure as the first African American to be nominated for president by a major party, would bring higher taxes and higher risk, Huckabee told the Republican National Convention.
The former Arkansas governor derided Obama's "excellent adventure to Europe," saying he brought back "European ideas" about taxes and big government.
John McCain would bring the right kind of change, Huckabee said, on taxes, and does not want to change fundamental beliefs on abortion and gay marriage.
He said he's offended by Democrats saying they're the friend of the working person, then telling the story of his childhood growing up poor in Arkansas.
Huckabee also declared that McCain is well-prepared for the presidency, telling the now familiar story about McCain's service in Vietnam. "He is thoroughly tested," he said.

I was surprised the Huckster didn't say more to defend the insane VP pick he forced on McCain, but instead left most of that to the speaker who followed him.
It was good though to hear him try and make up for some of his Confederate flag waving with a salute to Obama that made it sound like he halfway cares about race relations in this country.
Fmr Governor Huckabee stated he's tired of hearing of Gov. Sarah Palins inexperience. Well, we are all sick and tired of hearing about Senator McCain's military career. Is that all is has to defend his position? Every speaker repeats the same story. We've heard it enough already! If Gov. Sarah Palin has all this executive experience maybe she is more qualified than Senator McCain?
Interesting factual errors in this speech. Abe Lincoln didn't found the Republican party, Biden got far more votes for president than there are residents of her town although Huckie claimed she got more votes for mayor than Biden got for pres. But most importantly, because it puts the story on the table for discussion, Huckie said that McCain didn't give a confession statement to his captors despite that it would have relieved his pain. In fact, McCain wrote about TWO times he gave in to his captives and made statements, including anti-American statements.
Oh - those dangerous "European" ideas... I am afraid of how their message was so well targeted to those apt to believe it unconditionally.
I hope the hype of the convention will blow over, and that the real campaign will take place.
The first three sound like sour grapes to me... Huckabee did a fine job.. Sarah will make an excellent vice-pesident in 2008 and president in 2012 or 2016.....

Never said Abe Lincoln founded the Republican party, he said the Republican party ended slavery which is a fact. Get it right and don't be like the media. Great speech!!!!

True, Biden did get more votes this election than are in Sarah hometown. But he didn't get more votes than she did when he left the presidential race. Biden droped out after Iowa, therefor the rest of the votes that Biden got, aren't being counted by Huckabee. So Huckabee claim is factual by the book. He counted the votes that count.
Well, glad that is over. After having Barack Obama, and Joe Biden harpooned, gaffed, and bayoneted, by every person taking the stage, I guess they are all really worried. Lets face it, although there weren’t that many supporters in place, those who were, really wanted to put down the Democratic Party, Chicago, and the state of Delaware. As I listened to Romney, Huckabee, and then Giuliani speak, you saw three men America did not want in the Presidency, belittle poke fun at, and demean the representatives of the Democratic party. You want to know why Congress can’t work together, look no further my friend. Remember, Obama respects and is willing to meet, one on one between confirmations. As they spoke, behind former Mayor Giuliani we see the New York skyline. A picture that forever just won‘t seem right. Missing are the Twin Towers, missing are the lives of many Americans and others from around the world. Remember, they were all there before George W. Bush, and Mayor Giuliani took office. So were the service men and women who went to Iraq to fight a war we had no business to be in. Mr. Bin Laden is still enjoying the scenery.
At the Democratic convention, you heard what the platform of the Democratic Party was, what was gone to be accomplished, how it was gone to be accomplished, and the need to do so. At this convention so far, we have heard about John McCain the prisoner of war, and what he went through., and the reward that is now due him. We have lifted our hearts, and prayers to the young men and women this administration has sent to foreign countries in a effort to do what? McCain, Palin, and Biden have sons either in Iraq, or on the way. Let me ask you, would you be so happy to see your loved ones, going to a foreign country, to protect the oil fields? Is that a good enough reason. You heard what Barack Obama and Joe Biden have not accomplished, how they have supposedly lied to whom ever, and then they circled the wagons with words that were spoken against them by rival candidates during the Primary. You did not see that at the Democratic convention. Not just digs, they spieled genuine hatred and reduced those of us who support the Democratic Party, as well as those around the world who support Barack as some kind of air head, and wasting our change (dollars and cents) to support the party. Then the star of the show, I must say a very good speaker, with every sentence put Barack, and Joe down! Please Joe, you have but one debate, be respectful, but remember she knows how to field dress a moose,. And they were probably male moose’s too! I guess that’s why they don’t wear wedding rings Mr, & Mrs.
Well, I hope all have a good time of celebration at this event, because it will probably be short lived, as we can see through to their true character, as well as their weightless redorick in an attempt to scare us. The Republican Party represents big business, with tax deferment, loopholes, and off shoring for profits. There are also agencies always advertising, “If you owe the IRS more than $10,000, call us we can settle for pennies on the dollar”? HAVE YOU EVER OWED THE IRS MORE THAN $10,000? I bet the sellers on eBay would have a lot to say about the former CEO, who had to increase your cost of selling to help provide for her modest pension. You little business owners, know what I mean. I am still waiting to hear about the Healthcare agenda. You know that $5,000 tax credit, just what can we put that credit against? Income Taxes, what if we don’t have enough to use that? What if we don’t have money to buy insurance? What if we are uninsurable? What if the Democrats had not forced the Congress into raising the minimum wage? A lot of unanswered questions, but now a race to the finish….
Can anyone here actually develop a cogent thought in defense of this pathetic convention?
Fact:
1. Huckabee did claim that Lincoln founded his party.
Fact:
2. The Republican party of the 1860's became known as the Democratic Party thereafter.
Fact:
3. Biden has been voted into the Senate so many times that his votes dwarf Huckabee's for that matter. What a joke to make an irrelevant comparison.
Fact:
4. Read McCain's books: why believe something Huckabee or anyone says when you can read the book. Unless you don't want to know the truth according to pre-presidential candidate McCain.
Fact:
5. Do any of her supporters know anything about her stance on issues?
If you do, put them up on this board. If not, then admit you never heard of her before this month.
Huckabee credited Abraham Lincoln with "A government big enough to give us all we want is big enough to take all we have" The following blogspot gives Thomas Jefferson credit for this quote, along with some good quotes about gun control:

The votes that count? They wouldn't have been counted if they didn't count. Biden suspended his campaign, but he was still on the ballot in all of the states he received those votes.
Huckabee did an excellent job! And I never tire of hearing about a hero who gave up 5 1/2 years of his life, was beaten and put in solitary confinement. What an honor to be able to hear that story. I may not agree with McCain on all the issues but I would rather follow someone in a time of crisis, who was willing to sacrifice himself for our country, and who overcame. That's real strength.
European Ideas? All of europe has followed the rest of the world and reduced their corporate income tax in the past 5-10 years leaving US alone at the top of hte heap.
Why couldn't Obama bring that idea home with him?
Instead he wants to close corporate tax loopholes so that he can rake more money into the government pot... he doesn't care that he's going to raise the effective corporate tax, create more disparity between nations and encourage more corporations to move their profit making operations out of the country.
Obama may 'feel our pain' but that's not what we need. We need somebody who will take steps to 'HEAL our pain'.
The rest of the world has shown that tax revenue as a percentage of GDP will increase if we lower the tax rate to encourage profit making operations to increase int he country. Unfortunately if Obama saw somebody make an egg sandwhich in Europe he'd come home, kill a chicken, cut it open to get the egg and make dinner. He's not smart enough to worry about where he's getting the egg tomorrow.
Hey Dustin ,
Iowa is a caucus state. Also, are you really telling the people that voiced their support for Biden after he "suspended" his campaign that their voices didn't count. Nice! The good Reverend lied, that is all there is to it!
Okay, so here are the numbers for Mrs. Palin:
1996 - 651 total votes
1999 - 909 total votes (I guess her town experienced a dramatic growth spurt in 3 years)
THE DEMOCRATS AND THE LEFTIST MEDIA MISINFORM THE PUBLIC ON PURPOSE ...
The so called political experts, like CNN's Bill Schneider ... or CNN's ultra biased Jack Cafferty, say that if a Republican is elected it will divide America. They try to imply that Obama is the candidate who would bring America together ... but, Obama is the most divisive candidate I have ever seen. He even split his own democratic party in half. And, although the democrats try to act as if he has some kind of American mandate, the split between Obama and McCain fluctuates at around 50/50. Keep America strong, and genuine ... elect McCain/Palin in November. No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko, no mean Michelle, NOBAMA
