McCain ad calls rivals 'disrespectful'
John McCain's campaign unveiled its own new TV ad today, one that seeks to stoke the backlash against attacks on Sarah Palin and her record. "He was the world's biggest celebrity, but his star's fading," the narrator says of Barack Obama. "So they lashed out at Sarah Palin."

The only one who is disrespectful is McSame. He's got nothing to offer but negativity.
McCain really needs to get a grip.
What is "disrespectful" is McCain pandering to female voters with the MOST anti-woman platform in Republican Party history -- What is "disrespectful" are the LIES that McCain and his people think will fool the american public - AGAIN -- What is "disrespectful" is talking only about "Entertainment Tonight" issues instead of issues that effect american families everyday. What is "disrespectful" is that the McCain campaign thinks we are stupid lemmings who will lap up all the lies & innuendo that can spill out of that campaign cesspool.
I am heartened that the Obama campaign is ready to fight back...let's see how fast the McCain cesspool starts whining....oh wait.....they already are.
apparently mccains ad people didnt pay attention to palin's GOP convention speach - talk about disrespectful, even mike tyson never tossed out that many jabs.
Obama IS disrespectful. Doesn't anyone recall the "clinging to their guns and religion" comment?
Obama is disrespectful out of ignorance. He's a typical elitist who hates people he doesn't know anything about. He wouldn't know WalMart if it hit him in the face.
To Obama, hating Sarah Palin is a symptom of a larger bigotry with elitists. If he saw someone like Sarah Palin at a social party he'd wonder how she got in.
He has that same entitlement attitude I've read and reread on this blog. People who say their children are going to BC or Bowdoin and therefore would never be the kind of people who got pregnant before marriage.
He has a grip....the problem is that the grip in the only way he can win, by throwing lies in the face of america and call it american. McCain...Thanks but no thanks....I'll go with the actual Change Campaign not Bush's Third Term
How true, how true. America needs McCain, while we let the inexperienced democrats (Obama 2 years in Senate) learn from reality TV. Massachusetts woman democrats are a funny lot: they really don't want a successful woman in politics? Why is that? Could it be that the educated, motivated and driven woman are all Republicans; and Democrat woman cannot see that talent in their own gender/party?
Wow - yet another blatant attempt to use Sarah Palin as a "human shield" ... McCain camp is PATHETIC and a disgrace to our democracy.
The sad part is that Obama has NEVER been disrespectful of Mrs. Palin and he knows it. He's just playing on people's base instincts.
Unfortunately, that tactic works.
Let's see - in this alternative universe, our military is out of Iraq and in Afghanistan, where they should be; the economy is humming along; our national health care needs have been brilliantly addressed so that everyone has access to quality care at affordable prices; our physical infrastructure has been repaired, and so has our foreign policy standing; we've migrated to environmentally-friendly and economical alternative energy sources; and since we have nothing else to do with our time, we can spend it telling lies about our political opponents, putting lipstick on pigs and doing everything but addressing substantive issues - but that's OK, because there aren't any left.
Barnum was right - you'll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. So was Walt Kelley and Pogo - we've met the enemy and he is us.
some old Republican (Karl Rove) garbage, they know that they can't run on the issues so they resort to character assassination instead
Now I know what a campaign death rattle sounds like. Thanks, McCain.
Crocodile tears from a man who had called his own wife the c-word.
some old Republican (Karl Rove) garbage, they know that they can't run on the issues so they resort to character assassination instead
How is that Kool-Aid tasting?
This is actually perfect for Obama ... McCain is paternalistically proctecting Palin, which 2 steps down in the chess game logically makes her seem weaker.
I don't care what people say about the VP slot, the only thing we really evaluate it for is that in the event of the President's death (and McCain is no spring chicken) we have a new President.
I think McCain's bump right now is due to the fact that people are excited that he made a bold move (change requires boldness, and McCain's shown more of that with the VP pick than Obama), but once the excitement of boldness settles down people are going to take a strong look at answering:
Can they REALLY see Sarah Palin as President?
I thought McCain wanted to run a "respectful" campaign, based on the issues that matter to Americans. The only *change* I see from him is a return to Gutter Politics.
That only works when people allow themselves to get distracted & take their eye off the ball. Enough! We're dealing with real challenges that require new thinking. We need Change.
Obama: McCain's policies are like putting lipstick
McCain: Stop bashing Sarah Palin!
Obama: McCain in office will be 4 more years of Bush policies
McCain: Stop bashing Sarah Palin!
McCain is an idiot and a liar!
It has amazed me how the Obama team and supporters are so negative towards anyone with a differing point of view. It's either agree with them on everything or you are worthless. I may not agree with McCain & Palin 100% but I appreciate their duty to community and country that cannot be equaled by the negative hateful campaign of Obama.
I'll take a Governor from a small town over a windbag any day.
I only want to know 2 things:
1. Are *both* candidates on the ticket qualified to be president?
2. What will the candidates do once they are in office?
I want the press to step up and do the hard work of answering these questions without help from the candidates, instead of publishing campaign sound bites and ads, disguised as research.
The fact that the presidential campaign dialog has devolved into whether they are "respectful" of each other is pathetic.
The fact that it works to distract the mainstream media from real reportage may be more pathetic
This is the coldest attack yet by the Democrats and Barack Obama, John McCain is a national treasure a veteran of his nation who was so severely tortured that he can barley lift him arms above his chest. He is computer illiterate, the man was a combat pilot and he is computer illiterate. God bless America if we ever get stuck with this blundering fool that opens his mouth before he puts his brain in gear.
Wow. Something that's been proven to be so factually incorrect still gets on the airwaves. When will this all end? Bring on the debates please.
Obama can dish it out but not take. I though he was going to win, but now it's apparent he's losing.
Dems new theme song for this political season....Slip Sliding Away. BHO going from 8 points up to 4 points down in about a month. And, now, loe and behold, Dem congressional candidates are only up by 3 points whereas they've been up by 10 or more for months and months. Keep up those sexist attacks on Palin, my friends. They really seem to be working.....for the Republicans. I love it when liberals start panicing. The only thing with a lower favorability rating than the President is the Democratic controlled Congress.
Well, when I watched the republicans convention I felt the republicans were a disgrace for America. They mocked Obama. They acted really mean; then they tried to make people believe they are Christians. Well, it is my opinion that Christians do not make fun of people as you people were doing at the convention. But since you always seem to take the low road to get elected I
shouldn't have been surprised by your behavior. However I am always shocked to see how you treat people who do not agree with you on an issue. I will not vote for you.
oh boo hoo!! the republicans can say what they please, but then the tables are turned they go crying home to mommy -- typical bully behaviour
That's right, Obama is a real elitist. He walked away from long dollars in a money center law firm to work on the streets of an economically depressed area, helping workers of all races who were left in the lurch when the steel industry shut down. What has McCain done since returning from Viet Nam - had an affair with a beer baroness, whose deep pockets have subsidized his life style and political career in the ensuing years?
Give us a break. McCain can't dine out forever on those years in the prison camp. You have to bring something to the presidency besides a back story. The only thing up for change with McCain is his Depens.
On The View today, McCain said he's never had any ads that were untruthful.
Does he even have a clue what his ads say, even though he "approves" them?
I haven't heard anything from Obama or his team that could be considered as "lashing out" at Palin. Can't say the same for Palin though - just listen to her RNC speech.
Unless of course you count the stuff that Swift said he said, which was easily proven wrong with the video. Where is that respectful campaign McCain promised us?
I don't believe that Obama is attacking Sarah Palin, but I do believe the Democratic supporters and campaign managers are. The networks are mostly Democrats and they keep on pushing and attacking Sarah Palin. Of course, the McCain camp will make accusations, even if his choice had been a man for vice president. Mud slinging is one, but when networks get involved with their personal likes and dislikes so fervently, it's time both parties woke up and put the blame on them. If Obama had any guts (hope he gets some before he is elected), he would. Joe Biden should also. After all, after his Anita Hill disaster of an attack years ago, he should at least have learned his lesson by now (how could Michelle even encourage her husband to choose him?) Go into ABC.com and look for the Palin interview in its whole form and you will see the "real" interview...then base your judgement. It has already been noted that the AP gave Charlie Gibson erroneous info for the interview. I always stick up for people who have had lies told about them. I am glad that McCain is a loyal person and wants to right wrongs also.
You know, I just got off the phone from a conference call with Senator Biden and the campaign's political directors. One of the callers made a slightly negative remark about Sarah Palin. The campaign jumped on the comment immediately and reminded us not to speak that way about Palin and to focus on what the Obama/Biden ticket will bring to the White House. The message to us was loud and clear: stick to the issues and remember that Obama is running against the top of the ticket, not Palin.
This particular ad by McCain is just plain false, to say nothing of a waste of funds. Doesn't his campaign have something more substantive to say? Obama had it right the other day when he said "Spare me the phony outrage."
It's obvious that the Libs are realizing that their messiah ain't gonna win. Watch for the attacks to increase as their hysteria grows. We ain't seen nothing yet
So I guess Obama reference too an ol fish and a pig with lipstick didn't mean McCain and Palin! Wake up people.. We do not need another Deval Patrick in the White House. It is funny how you liberals can't take the heat. Massachusetts might be stupid but America is not!
I think Obama is making a mistake criticizing McCain's lack of computer knowledge at this point. It only sounds mean - because millions of senior citizen don't know how to use the computer and are ashamed about it. This tactic could backlash and hurt Obama.
What Obama NEEDS to do is remind women voters that Sarah Palin wants to tell you you can't have an abortion even if you're the victim of rape or incest.
Obama's lipstick comment was disrespectful. Then the next day he says the GOP is doing "the same old thing"...um, Barack, you might want to roll the tapes from the past few months- you're just as guilty. The 2 party system needs an overhaul. The negative campaigns are out of control.
BTW, anybody else notice Obama slipping in the polls as soon as he started acting smug and sarcastic instead of hopeful and uplifting?? Not a coincidence people.
John McCain a National Treasure - I don't think so - I respect his service to the country. I despise that same man who came home to a wife who raised his children, worried whether she would ever see him alive again, who had a horrible car accident in the winter and was no longer beautiful enough for him - so he dumped her - walked away from her and her children because she no longer looked good in a swim suit - disgusting. If those are his values regarding marriage - how can I trust anything he says about any other value.
I know he pays her medical bills - how very generous (sarcasm added).
McCain can dish it out, but he can't take it. Stop whining, John!
I don't think Obama is being mean by attacking McCain's lack of computer knowledge. McCain has said he would take this country into the 21st century. The fact that this guy isn't even up to basic technology himself make me weary of him being able to do such that. I also don't believe that two people not highly educated themselves will care enough about the education in this country.
Palin is a liar:
1. Bridge to no-where (we all know this one by now)
2. "So I sold that plane on e-bay" (not true)
3. "I am against ear marks" (her record says otherwise)
4. She did cut taxes but failed to cut spending in Wasilla....this caused $20 mil in debt (not a fiscal conservative)
5. Claims to have cut ear marks by 2/3 (not true....her office released the numbers it was about %20 and there is much more to the story)
6. Is not against an oil windfall tax....has her own in Alaska (called the "Clear and Equitable Share tax.
7.Did not cut spending in Wasilla....increased budget $3.9 mil in first year (this is more than a %50 increase.)
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT PALIN LETS TALK McCAIN
McCain actually said today on The View that Palin hasn't requested any earmarks as governor:
McCain said he had chosen Palin because she would help to reform Washington, specifically cited curbing federal spending for earmarks. When pressed about Palin's record of requesting and accepting such money for Alaska, McCain ignored the record and said, "Not as governor she didn't."
McCain really thinks we're stupid.
NO, what Obama and the Democrats NEED to do is completely IGNORE Sarah Palin and focus on the ISSUES. John McCain is doing everything he can to distract voters from the issues, as this is the only way he can win. As tempting as it is, it's time to stop paying attention to the woman from Alaska.. MAKE JOHN McCAIN TALK ABOUT THE ECONOMY, THE WAR, EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE. Don't pay attention to anything else. Once the country get's it priorities right, it will see that John McCain does not offer any solutions.
Getting this close to the big seat has compelled McCain to basically throw his campaign to the wolves. What a sad sight to see someone who used to be a pragmatist and honest broker employ a strategy of lies and cynicism to win. I'd been on the fence between Obama and McCain, but after everything I've seen since the GOP convention, I can't vote for those folks. Shameless. Between the smug glibness of Sarah Palin, the empty-suited hypocrisy of Mitt "Epitome of Eastern Elites Himself" Romney, the whorish partisanship of Guilliani and Lieberman's deluded selfishness, the whole circus stood in stark contrast to what McCain himself said in his own speech. I mean, how cynical is that? To spend 3 days promoting the most bitter and baseless partisanship, and then on the last night pedantically tell us how you're above all of it is beyond insulting.
Once again, how can the Democrats cry issues when they chose the least experienced candidate. Yes, McCain's camp is waging a silly superficial attack, but silly and superficial apparently is where the electorate wants the campaign to be or at least that is the case for Democrat side of the aisle.
Four years ago, people started rallying around Obama. I've watched, listened and asked plenty and have to yet hear or see any legislative activity this guy has done that Hilliary Clinton, John Edwards, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry hasn't done threefold and then some. Of course how could he? For at least half that time he has been campaigning for the White House. The guy has charisma. He inspires hope and all sorts of good feelings, and maybe that is what we need now right now.
But, please, don't tell me the Democrats want some issue- and substance-centric campaign. If they had, Clinton would have been the nominee; she has a legislative record, not to mention moonlighting as a politician while First Lady. Even then, her experience pales to some of the other Democratic standard bearers.
If and when the Anti-Christ emerges, I would almost bet my life that Republicans will launch a blizzard of ads blasting the media for attacks on the Beast. That being said, I don't think Obama's new ad is particularly efffective. Maybe others will follow that are, though.
Notice when Obama points put that McCain is so out of touch with reality that he can't even use a computer the party of Bush/McCain says Obama is trying to destroy their candidates. Meanwhile Bush/McCain are happy to spew out distortions and lies with no penalty. Dare to criticism them and they start throwing epithets like elitist....their troops...look above, get the talking points and throw them out without a thought. The level of honor that the party of Bush/McCain is bringing to this campaign belongs in the gutter....if we let them get away with this by rewarding the republicans with the presidency, again, we deserve the crappy economy they will happily let us have...
Boy all you Mass. Liberal sicko's are going off the deep end. You are going to lose this election because your candidate is a FRAUD. End of story
Who cares if Palin doesn't believe in abortion? Get real, it's been 35 years since roe v wade and 24 of those years have been run by republicans who are anti-abortion. Remind me again how many times the supreme court has tried to overturn roe vs wade during these administrations? ZERO!
It is quite possible for some people to have a belief yet not try to shove it down everyone else's throat. Just because someone opposes abortion doesn't mean they won't rest until roe v wade is overturned.
you know , unfortunately, the republicans (Karl Rove and co.) are so warpped up in negative campaigning, personal attacked, and character assasination
that they forgot they actually may have something good to run on about
some real issue for the people with McCain! actaully they may have but they just can not see and they are trying what worked in 2000, and 2004 thinking it will also work in 2008 and it may
amazing how many delusional libs that are hear.
if it werent for my job Id be outta here.
The Republicans are such hypocrites. After all the Republican trash talk during their convention, they have absolutely no cause for complaint. I will never, ever forgive them for impeaching Bill Clinton, for the Iraq War, or for the Swift-boating of John Kerry. Lies, crony-incompetence, corruption, and war -- that is their everlasting legacy.
It IS an issue that John McCain is out of touch with working Americans and with the information age. And he has made his age and medical condition a critical campaign issue because of the inexperience and extreme right wing politics of his running mate.
Don't be fooled by any of these ads. This race isn't about McCain, Biden, Obama or Palin. It's not even about amercans. It's about two parties that have been locked in battle for over a hundred years. Both parties are scratching & clawing for power and they will say anything to to get. They both have hired writers to pretend to be ordinary citizens commenting on these sites.
None of these candidates are truly agents of change. They're just the latest in a long line of pawns who are hoping to wear the crown for just one day.
The Republican and Democratic parties are corrupt and need to be abandoned. We really need a third party of true Independent Moderates to rise up and set America on an entirely different course.
The truly depressing thing about McCain et al is how willing they are to jettison truth and integrity. It's lie after lie, and the Republicans just don't seem to care. This isn't a matter of opinion, but of fact. Over the past 24 hours, McCain and Palin have been caught in at least a dozen lies, and have just denied it or accused the Democrats of being unfair. They really should be ashamed of themselves. There is such a thing as objective truth, and it can't be willed away. Shame on these people.
what planet is syeve garfinkle from ?? the same people who totally destroyed John McCain in 2000 are now running his operation and trying the same tactics on Obama...your crowd voted for George W. Bush twice and gave us 8 years of a nightmare with disastrous results...you should be disqualified from voting...please step aside while we take our country back.
I believe McSame is the fraud. Ask the other 4 Keatings.
You are so right. Everyone in Mass is in their own bubble. Here in Orlando (a bellweather of the election due to its demographics), McCain has erased a 9 point deficit and is up by 6 points. Fortunately the world does not reveolve around Boston or New York.
Everyone's a political scientist I guess. Someone previously said it best. If the Democrats REALLY cared about issues, Hillary Clinton would have been the nominee; at least based on experience and political saavy. I'm so sick of hearing about the evil Republicans. Like the Obama camp is so reputable and upstanding? If Barack Obama himself saw some these postings, he would be embarrased that you people support him. I may not vote for the guy but at the very least he's respectable and brings up some valid points. There is slinging on both sides, not just one. You don't think Obama is ashamed at the Pamela Anderson faction? These people have no idea who or what this party stood for and most of you bloggers here continue to worship of false liberalism.
Jeez! When Biden called her good looking, he was making fun of himself.
I am so fed up with Gramps and the Queenie's lies.
McCain's rivals are disrespectful? Well isn't that the big fat pot calling the kettle black. Disrespectful is that McCain ad about sex education with the little girl in it. The insinuation was pornographic and McCain talks about respect?
Making fun of him because he was there when they wrote the dead sea scrolls pales in comparison.
I keep hearing, "Experience, experience" as the mantra of both camps. What I don't get, is when it became required that one be a Professional Politician to serve the Nation? Our founders expected a citizen to leave their farm, factory, plantation, shop, etc. and serve the Nation for a period of time, and then get a real job again, if you didn't as most did, keep that real job whilst serving. Most of our "Career Politicians" are utter scumbags, if not unprosecuted murderers, etc. Why is a Career Politician somehow more qualified than an average educated citizen? A small-town mayor-turned-governor sounds pretty dang refreshing to me. This isn't Europe, people, as much as you might want it to be.
I've had it with all of these ads. {On BOTH sides}
That said, I found this one particularly insulting. Saying Obama is 'disrespectful' toward Palin - it's right up there with the 'uppity' comment from the GA. politician. The notion that is coming out of the McCain camp, that she must be treated with 'deference' and that his comments are 'disrespectful' (which I don't see) - I believe it's condescending "we must protect the little woman"
As a woman, I find this notion ridiculously patronizing.
I agree with Former Senator Lincoln Chafee, Palin is a "cocky wacko".
Thanks for your support Lincoln Chafee. You make all Rhode Islander's proud
of your open opinions and service to this wonderful State and Country.
I find it dishonest and low road for John Mcain complaining about Obama's attacks on his running mate . When she was standing next to her bashing Obama with her Judas face> i didn't hear anything from Mcain.Few months ago when his supporter was calling HRC a bitch , Mcain seemed enjoy the moment > That tells me two things that first he's not a maverick , at least not anymore and he would do anything to get elected no matter what the tatics are and secondly he has no real plan for the country, for my family that's why he chooses not to talk about the issues ( economy , education , Health care, war on teror)
I love listening to the hypocrats whine. Experience mattered nothing for the last year but now it is everything. You’re a racist if you don’t want the socialist/communist Obama elected but you’re not a sexist if you say Palin is unfit for the VP spot because she is a mother. Obama denigrates the Republicans for negative campaigning but expects everyone to ignore him calling Palin a pig (then lies and say that isn’t what he meant while the looks on the faces in the audience tell the truth). The man has done nothing, seems incapable of doing anything except praising himself, and is in his current position ONLY because of his race and the hypocrats can’t seem to understand why he is slipping in the polls. The answer is plain as day – the man is a stuffed shirt and everyone knows it, it just that the hypocrats don’t like being called on their hypocracy.
And what is McCain's command experience? 4 days after capture he broke and spilled his guts telling the communist every military secret he knew so he would get special treatment - and he did including deciding when he would return home. Is it any wonder his hair went white - his father and grandfather were great men, while junior was a traitor who should have been hanged. Since when is being a traitor qualify one as a hero?
And when he returns what does he do, become a politician and with John Kerry do everything in his power to cover up all evidence for MIA/POWs from Vietnam. Those men didn't bend and that is why they were left behind and forgotten; they were the real heroes not the song bird McShame.
McCain approves of torture - it worked oh him. He betrayed his country and assumes others are as cowardly and weak as he is. He wants to stay in Iraq when the government of Iraq wants us out - is that command experience?
McCain is an elitest, he was born with a silve spoon in his mouth, he married a woman worth well over 100 million. He wants to reduce taxes, on himself, but spend and make the next generation pay; the difference between taxes and borrowing is that with taxes the generation today pays, while with borrowing (Republicans are masters as building debt) the next generation has to pick up the bill - is that a fiscal conservative? We spent a trillion in Iraq, if one likes that vote McCain, maybe he will start a war with Russia that should be fun - he will learn Russia is not Iraq.
Palin, she took a little town and could not even manage that. This fiscal conservative started as mayor with $0 (Zero) debt for the town and left in a few short years leaving over $20 million on her pet projects - imagine the damage she can do to the national debt.
The US is no longer a SuperPower thanks to the Republican Party; with McCain at the helm it will become obvious to all.
McCain revealed military secrets while in captivity, hugged a commie who murdered American POWs, insulted families of MIAs, took steps to block any serious investigation into the existence of MIAs from Vietnam and dares to presume to be honorable. He is a traitor.
Barak is in a panic..
The McCain/Palin ticket dipped as low as they can go with these stupid ads. Even Karl Rove said McCain has gone too far in his misleading and untruthful statements. SHAME ON BOTH of them. Palin is just as bad with her half-truths.
I have not one ounce of respect for "The Maverick" anymore. I used to disagree with his policies, but I had respect for his service. Anyone who claims to put "America First" cannot be taken seriously when he approves all of those sleazy, false ads. McCain is pulling out all of the stops to WIN, and he surrounds Palin with a shroud of secrecy. Is this an indication of what's to come in the White House? More secrecy? More Lies? We're not stupid out here!
We're not stupid out here
