McCain ad links Obama to Chavez
A day after raising some eyebrows for not promising to meet with Spain's prime minister, John McCain unveiled a TV ad trying to tar Barack Obama for being willing to meet with Venezuela's leader Hugo Chavez.
The ad is to air in Spanish in Florida, a near must-win for McCain and a state where Latinos are a key constituency. Chavez is notoriously anti-American and is allied with Fidel Castro, who is vilified by Cuban exiles who are key Republicans.
The ad alternates criticisms of Obama with Chavez tirades against the United States, with profanities bleeped out.
"Did you see who Obama wants to talk with?" the announcer asks.
"Go to h*ll, you filthy Yankees!" Chavez is shown saying at a rally.
"Barack Obama says that he would meet Chavez without conditions," the announcer continues.
Chavez: "Filthy Yankees, go to h*ll hundred times!"
Announcer: "He said he would meet in his first year in office."
Chavez: "The United States which is behind every conspiracy against our country."
Announcer: "He said it was a disgrace that we haven't spoken with them."
Chavez: "If any aggression were to come against Venezuela, then there will be no oil for people or the government of the United States!"
Announcer: "Do you believe we should talk with Chavez?"
Chavez: "We, you filthy Yankees, know that we are resolute to be free, no matter what happens, and at any cost!"
"In November, you decide," the announcer concludes.

Yes, I do believe we should always try to find out what the REAL problems are and talk first. There is a reason this man hates America -- HMMMM... is it because he "hates our freedoms".. LMAO...give me a break!
Ronald Reagan talked with the EVIL EMPIRE. If they had WMDs, we'd HAVE to talk to them.
So, let's not play Mr. Superior Pants.
You can't talk with barbarians without conditions. These are America haters, they will make fun of Obama the minute he leaves the meeting table. By the way this video is just a small piece of what this mad man has said about americans and the United States.
The ad neglects to mention the source of Chavez`s power, the high price of oil which is a direct result of insane Repuiblican policies.
Yea, McSame and Saint Sarah will just invade instead. Why try talking to people when we can just invade them. They do have oil after all.
There are leaders that can be reasoned with and leaders that can't.
What would talking to Chavez uncover that we don't already know? He has made is opinions and demands perfectly clear.
Would talking to him change the way he feels about the good ole USA? Not unless we're willing to part with our God given rights and hard earned money.
Great ad, this is shows that Obama Hussein bin Laden is a danger to America.
Have you notice that the McCain lies become increasingly desperate as he slides in the polls?
I think voters are beginning to see through this nonsense. McCain's in panic mode. Next we'll hear Obama wants to ship newborn babies to Venezuela to teach them how to have sex with Frank Raines.
Just see this new ad of McCain, just I want to know what is Obama going to say.
In 2007, the US imported $39.9 billion from Venezuela, the vast majority of it being OIL. In the first 7 months of 2008, the US imported $32.2 billion. I guess McCain's position is that they're bad guys, so we shouldn't talk to them, but, since we need their oil, there is nothing wrong to pay them tens of billions of dollars every year. Who's he trying to fool?
Has Secretary Rice's talking with Qaddafi of Libya -- a sponsor of terrorism, including the attack on PanAm 103 -- "changed the way he feels about the good ole USA"? At least Chavez has not sponsored terrorism against Americans; so far, he's all bark and no bite.
I hadn't heard McCain saying that Rice's literally giving roses to Qaddafi was a bad thing to do. I guess talking to dictators of oil-rich countries is OK as long as it's the Bush Administration doing it.
As a not pro-Chavez venezuelan, I certainly hate to see Mr. Obama (or anyone) reputation tarnished by supposed sympathies for Chavez. Personally, I wouldn´t like someone who follows Bush policies in the White House, but if the choice would be against the people of Venezuela (and for Chavez) then McCain would be the lesser evil.
About the comment:
"By the way this video is just a small piece of what this mad man has said about americans and the United States."
It is not a small piece: Chavez is not a politician. His undoing (and much of his success) is due to saying all he has in his mind. He does not say something in the street and another thing at home. He´s equally mad at both. Some regard this behaviour of him as honesty. I don´t.
I believe talking and diplomacy are the best keys in any situation. If they fail, they fail, but at least an attempt is made.
Good for Obama, at least hes pointing out a different option!!! What will McCain do? sit by and let things carry on as they are. There is a saying:
"Not attempting new solutions is even worse than making backward progress"
Hugo Chavez always have a high fever so all he needs are few dose of tyllenol to calm him down. It's not a smart idea to talk with leaders like Chavez when their fevers are up because he won't response itelligently. It's better to wait till he's not around by then we can start thinking about talking face to face with the new and more capitalist leader hopefully.Any President that think he can talk with leaders like these is a nut and an embarassment for America.
Diplomacy must always be an option when possible. All these smear political campaign ads are sickening, we should elect the candidate based on his ability to apply diplomacy when possible and defend our nation when called for not just use invasion or war as a business tactic!
McCain's ad used parts of Chavez's characteristiclly childish and scatological speech of september 11th (last week), in which, besides his usual litany of insults directed at the venezuela opposition and the United States, declared Washington's ambassador to Caracas Patrick Duddy persona non grata. Chavez is at present more off balance than usual due to the information in the computers captured from the FARC guerrillas in Colombia, the trial in Miami which directly links his government to rampant corruption at the highest levels (including himself), and next november's state and municipal elections in which his movement is posed to lose key races. But all this is really beside the point. Does not the government of the United States meet with representatives of "axis of evil" regimes such as Libya, North Korea, and yes, Iran and even Cuba? Diplomacy, even with unsavory thugs like Hugo Chavez, should always be the first, second and third choice for the US government, be it Republican or Democrat. To me McCain's ad is simple minded and desperate, aimed at our fears and not at our reasoning.
People...why are we getting caught up in these endless spectacles of McCain's insecurity? If you have a plan, spread it....why are you spending all this time trying to take your opponent down with baseless associations? Haven't we heard enough from this repeatfully deceitful approach from McCain? Whether Chavez is good or evil is immaterial to this discussion...the key question is why does mccain feel he needs to constantly make these baseless and completely untruthful attacks when he is so convinced that he has a better plan...in this world, there are people who get it, and people on the sidelines who don't, and spend all their time hating on people doing better than them....in the bible the term for this condition is envy. Me? I call it a fundamental insecurity on McCain's part.
Attacking Chavez in Florida is the equivalent of taking candy from a baby. At least this is what the McCain bunch think as I, a Venezuelan American, am completely disgusted by a candidate that at a certain point says he won't talk with the Venezeulan dictator, as his counterpart would, but yet he is all about oil, which Venezuela is one of the Major US suppliers and this commercial relation is what has kept Hugo Chavez in power for so long.
The most funny thing is that Obama, in his may speech (I believe it was in May or June) in the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL, Obama clearly stated, and I quote: "His predictable yet perilous mix of anti-American rhetoric, authoritarian government, and checkbook diplomacy offers the same false promise as the tried and failed ideologies of the past. But the United States is so alienated from the rest of the Americas that this stale vision has gone unchallenged, and has even made inroads from Bolivia to Nicaragua. And Chavez and his allies are not the only ones filling the vacuum. While the United States fails to address the changing realities in the Americas, others from Europe and Asia – notably China – have stepped up their own engagement. Iran has drawn closer to Venezuela, and just the other day Tehran and Caracas launched a joint bank with their windfall oil profits." In other words, Obama explains how the Bush/McCain policy of "Not talking" with the americas is exactly what has fueled the Chavez policy around the world.
As a Venezuelan, I feel this Ad is a blunt insult against my intelligence and a vague populist attempt to gather the vote of the hispanic population in Florida. I'm sorry Mr. McCain and campaign advisory people, but you read the signs the wrong way as I can attest that every exiled Venezuelan would rather have a president that acknowledges the threat that Hugo Chavez presents instead of ignoring it while keeping the commercial relations at their best in the last 30 or so years.
Any candidate that wants to be civil with Chavez just doesn't fit. What Chavez really wants isn't to improve the lives of people in his country or to make the world a better place...or even to take down what he calls "The Empire" (aka the US). His main goal is to be controversial enough to get people's attention. He just wants for the world to see his as a threat so people will know his name like Castro. Giving him the time of day will just fuel him. If Obama wants to reason with him, that won't shut him up. It will just make him find some other way to make people mad so he'll be in the headlines again. Why else would he kick out the ambassador of the US from Venezuela? He had no business getting in the middle of Bolivia's mess. He just wanted attention.
Venezuela's president is a great man, just not for the rich and corrupt. Of course he is considered to be an enemy. But let's not forget that he extended a helping hand to several Americans in supplying oil to heat their homes. One thing that Chavez does not tolerate is oppression of people. He just doesn't support a super imperialistic wealthiest minority maintaining control of everything, while others suffer (those being ethnic/racial minorities and working class people). Of course people like McCain and you're average conservative would go along with shunning Mr. Chavez.
Mr. Venezuela you are an american not venezuelan. Since you claim to venezuelan than go back to that piece of crap country.
