McCain and Palin take show to Ohio

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 9, 2008 10:45 AM

Before another sizable crowd, John McCain and Sarah Palin brought their road show today to the crucial battleground state of Ohio.

McCain told supporters in Lebanon that Ohio is a "state we must win and will win in November," and noted the new enthusiasm.

"We've got to turn that into a victory on November 4th," he declared.

The Arizona Republican reiterated that he and Palin are a "team of mavericks."

"We'll return this government to the people of this country," he said. "Change is coming and real change is coming to Washington, D.C."

While Democrat Barack Obama calls himself the agent of change, McCain said, he has never taken on his party, and has fallen into line with other senators seeking hundreds of pork barrel projects.

"Don't be fooled," McCain said.

Palin repeated her reformist, tax-cutting story as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, and as the state's governor since December 2006. She promised to bring the same tax relief to Washington, and to reform the "corrupt practices" in how Congress spends money.

  1. "Don't be fooled" --John McCain

Nope, we're not fooled, John. We know that everything you and your sidekick say are lies.

  1. It will be interesting to see if these two ever go their own separate ways on the campaign trail. I also noticed Palin is giving the same speech, over and over again. How many times are we going to have to hear the Ebay BS?

  1. you're a very strange people, if americans in the past three primary elections decided that Sen McCain is unfit to be president, why they should vote for him now? just for the new litte toy of media Gov. Pallin? she is not believable and very dangerous for all american, expecially women.

  1. Tsk tsk, you liberals sound so scared. You are right, everything he says is a lie. And, he's in the lead. Imagine what his lead will be when he starts to tell the truth. You lefties are so funny.

  1. Looks like the first three comments are from scared, defensive Mass. Democrats. Can tell you without reservation that your views regarding the American hero John McCain and his quite capable side kick are NOT shared by voters (Republican and Democrats alike) in Ohio. Best of Luck in November.

  1. Marco what are you afraid of? A strong woman? A man who lost because he bucked his party's line? You sound like a person who likes the status quo.
Is she not beliveable do to being too much of a good thing!
I'm not sure about either of them either but I'll listen to both sides and compare... As usual I expect to vote on a best available choice instead of 'I love this candidate' but at least both choices this time seem have positive direction.

  1. I agree with senator Obama. If we stick to the issues - health care, the economy, energy, Iraq, education, women's rights - we should be alright. Don't forget, we've got a whole lot of newly registered voters and young people who don't get counted in the polls. We be allright!

  1. I guess that's why Obama picked Biden because he has so many successful attempts at running for President.

  1. McShame is making a mockery out of this election, plain and simple!
Palin's a friggen joke, the GOP says a senator with 4 years under his belt is not experienced to lead this country, how about a govenor with 2 years under her belt? GOP calls that experience? especially since McShame could easily drop dead at any second!
Next, what about trooper-gate, a govenor who utilizes her executve power for personal vindication really shows the country how she would lead now doesn't it?
Third, Palin barks and barks about abstinence in schools & won't allow for condoms to be distributed and her own 17 year old is knocked up? THAT IS PLAIN HYPOCRACY, which IS a Repuklican motto!

This simply shows how poor of judgement McShame really has! He is NOT qualified to be President which is displayed by his failure as a fighter pilot!

I rest my case - OBAMA ALL THE WAY IN NOVEMBER - NOW MORE THAN EVER!

  1. Right now the media is swooping down on Alaska, collecting dirt on Palin....
the more they pile up, the more the voters turn to protect her, meaning bigger crowds for her and McCain, almost feel sorry for Obama... a 'change' he did not count on.....S

  1. If you take away the lies and shoddy tactics used, what has the Mccain-Palin ticket said thus far. Enough with the personal stories and tales of herosim. They need to get down to the issues and thats straight talk. They are doing all Americans a disservice by making a mockery and spectacle of this election. They are taking dem. views and trying to make it there own, facts matter words mean nothing.

  1. To Sandy the Snob (post #10 & 13) -

You're absolutely right Sandy the Snob,

A person is uneducated like you said if they don't attend an Ivy League school but went to a public university or small college not located in New England.

You are such a freakin' snob and elitist. You must be an atheist too. May God have mercy on your soul (if you have one).

No wonder you are voting for someone who will change our country to the USSA (United Socialist States of America). And I even live in the Peoples Republic of Cambridge!

  1. God must be a Republican...why else would he have bestowed the wisdom on John McCain to pick Sarah Palin.

What a wonderful choice for VP...She will stand Washington DC and America on their ears!

Poor Barack...he shoulda picked Hillary. Perhaps he'll impose upon Biden to drop out due to a sudden and unexpected health problem.

  1. No, she doesn't have to go to an Ivy league school... I never said that. How about getting an education relevant to the position you are seeking! How about getting more education than just a 4 year journalism degree that took you 6 years and 5 different schools to obtain? Something is fishy with her educational background. Did she get kicked out of some of these schools, flunk out? I would like to know.

  1. Sandy...your soo biased it has made you into a zombie...why don't you ask barack what he was doing hanging out with bill ayers (American Terrorist #1) or a chicago mobster who is now being indited....or why he worked for acorn...an organization in legal trouble in different states for voter fraud....you or your media won't b.c you guys think he's the messiah

  1. Let's not be caught up in media hype and political rally frenzy with each side telling us only what they know we want to hear. Race issues, family issues and gender issues aside, can we really see Sarah Palin standing up with world leaders and being able to earn their respect? She had to be given a crash course before starting on the campaign trail to even be educated enough on world issues for our Ohio small town rally. She may be just the spark that McCain needs to be elected, but we mustn't forget that there's probably a bigger than usual possibility that she would become president before the term is out. Her gender, family, all-American persona are not going to go very far in supplying her with what she needs to run the country. I want to evaluate the ticket as a whole and have to admit that "President Biden" is a lot less frightening than "President Palin." As a female and a registered Republican, I'm still trying to look beyond the hype and mud-slinging to be able to be an informed voter.

  1. Radicals don't care if their leaders lie. They didn't care about George W. Bush's lies. They didn't care about Dick Cheney's lies. They know McCain and Palin are lying, but they don't care. So, it does no good to point out to them that their leaders are lying. They know it because it's so blatant. They just don't care.

If GWB were running for a third term, they would continue to support him and ignore his lies and say how he's really done a great job and how good the economy is. That's how they are. You can't help these people

  1. My goodness. The Democrats, liberal press and the left wingers are about to implode! Their underwear is really in a twist! This is hilarious! The gaffe ridden empty suit that tried to cast himself as the President elect before the Europeans has now had his bubble popped. Hey, Obama, do you still think there are 57 states? Need a US geography lesson?

The Democrats are a bankrupt and divided party. The smears and attacks won't work and the media essentially campaigning for Obama has resulted in their being viewed no longer as objective journalists. Now Obama is for "school choice?" Now Obama admits the surge worked?! Ha! Come to the center you left wing tax raising socialist. Obama, wrong man, wrong time!

  1. Media, you do not seem to GET it.
I went to the rally today in Ohio fully expecting to see Palin the "star". Forget about it.. McCain stole the show! As for being at a Beatle''s concert, it was far the cry. Here at UC the Democrats threw their bra''s and panties at Obama. Isn''t that SPECIAL? (DO WE NEED TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT WE HAVE HAD A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS FOR YEARS)

  1. I thought I was a democrat and this is my first time voting and it will be for Sarah Palin and also for John McCain.

They don't look down their noses at regular people like Biden does.

  1. It is unfortunate that one American can be so bias toward another American solely on the basis of political party affiliation. Democrats 'know' that Republicans always lie, and Republicans 'know' that Democrats always lie.

Personally, I would rather see a 22 year service veteran/ senator along with the only candidate that has any executive experience (2 yrs. governor and 6 years mayor - whom her constituents overwhelmingly approved) over 2 lawyers/senators (one of which didn't gain as many votes running for president as Gov. Palin recieved when running for mayor of Wasilla) any time.

  1. Complain all you want about how the campaign is going. The reality is
that Obama's wife and the Reverand Wright will cost him the election.
I am a die hard Democrat and this will be the first time in my 30 years
of voting that I am going with the Republican party. There is no way
I am putting someone in office who has a racist wife and a racist
mentor. No doubt, McCain will win the election for these very reasons.

  1. Whatever happened to all the "Stick to the issues" mantra of the left as the media tried to explore Obama's past?
How about more dialogue about who will raise taxes (on everyone beyond the token bracket reduction); will a socialized health care system extend our life expectancy; or does full term abortion in the name of the mother's convenience and paid for by the government reflect our societal crede?
Let's move past the VP selection to what will make us proud to be Americans, and protect that!

  1. I can hardly wait to see VP Sarah in charge of the Congress...she will organize the mess as only a hockey mom/ moose-hunting/governator can do. We know that Alaskans are a special breed, hardy and tough enough to beat the elements and wild life. Go SARAH - our prayers are with you!

  1. Mc Cain does not support equal pay for women and then conveniently chooses a women as VP and dangles her to the public.

Mc Cain tax cuts will only benefit rich which means that many of us will not benefit.

Mc Cain has blatantly lied throughout his campaign while Obama has shown integrity and class. I can not believe Republicans made fun of his role as a community organizer. Politicians main goal should be to serve the public. I live in Chicago and will tell you that Obama's community organizing involved going door to door in one of the most poverty stricken communities in the nation. In fact these communities are even overlooked today by local politicians because of the violence. Lets face it many people will not vote for Obama because he is black which is unfortunate. It has to be the only explanation because Obama's tax cuts will financially benefit the majority of Americans. He is highly educated and has been in Washington just long enough to get experience and not be influenced by old politics. He is also favored by other countries. Its funny when I see these small town people who sit behind McCain and support him when none of them will get any tax relief from him. Why are they supporting him if Obama can help them more? Most of these people are poor people and we know how Republicans view serving the poor. If some of you are not voting for Obama because he is black ...please remember that race is the smoke screen and the real issue is class and economics. As long as the middle class and poor are divided by race and culture then the rich get richer.
