McCain camp blasts media
John McCain's senior adviser blistered the media -- and The New York Times in particular -- today, complaining that the press is unfairly attacking him and running mate Sarah Palin, while treating Democratic rival Barack Obama with kid gloves.
"Whatever the New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization. It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization," Schmidt told reporters. "This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate."
The immediate subject for ire was a story in today's Times about McCain campaign manager Rick Davis receiving nearly $2 million for lobbying for Freddie Mac and Fannie May, but relations between McCain and the Times soured after a disputed front-page article in February about McCain's ties with a female lobbyist, which said that aides were convinced they were having an affair. (Full disclosure: The New York Times Co. owns The Boston Globe and Boston.com.)
Obama's campaign replied this afternoon with one, somewhat skewed, scorecard.
It says the Times has published more than 40 "probing stories" about "Obama, his life, his religion, his childhood, his politics, his time in the state senate, his time in the US Senate, his family, his religion, his friends, his fundraising, and all other manner of associations" -- but not a single story about the savings and loan crisis and McCain's ties with a central figure in that bailout, Charles Keating.
The February story, however, did mention McCain's dealings with Keating, a campaign contributor. The Senate Ethics Committee reprimanded McCain for improper actions on Keating's behalf.

Ok, Any fool who thinks that the media is out to get you is wrong 90% of the time.
What the media is out there to do is, Make Money. If they get the story first and the story right they get more interest from people, more people who watch and read mean more prestige in the industry. More prestige in the industry means higher rates they can charge for ads. So they are not taking sides, they are just going with the story that will make sales higher.
Oh and Rick Davies is a Tool. Is it me or in every interview does it seem like he is gonna have a fit, take his ball and go home like the 2 year old he really is.
You go, McCain! How dare NYT tell the truth about you!
Talk about biased - did anyone watch the 60 Minutes converage last night? Steve Kroft was much harder on Obama than Scott Pelley was on McCain. Pelley's was a total fluff piece, while Kroft actually probed Obama to actually answer pointed questions. Obama did a good job.
Does the McCain camp really want to open this can of worms?
The 1st commenter is correct that the #1 job of the media is to make $$$. The media has know soul. They merely exist to make money. And knowing that political dirt sales, they make alliances with "privy" individuals who can deliver that dirt. But there are fewer "privy" informants to go around these days with all the news outlets competing for premium dirt.
The bottom line is the NYT has (by design or by chance) more alliances w/ people who can dish out dirt on republicans and than democrats.
One reason may be that their target audience is liberal so they have sought out anti-republican sources to cater to those readers. Or another reason is maybe that they have burnt bridges with their anti-democrat sources and simply can't provide the provocative stories that conservatives are looking for.
Well Palin hasn't shown up to testify on her own. Excuse campaign and running around feeling important. She just sent her lawyer "mouth piece" to do her dirty work for her. I have lost all confidence in this person every speaking the truth and I am glad that those officals want to get to the bottom of this who "need to do the right thing" and does their jobs they were hired to do so. Uncover the truth. If this had been an everyday ordinary person they would be in custody by now. This proves the point Palin thinks she is "above the law" and has abused her power and is unethical. MCCain shame on you for causing this delay and being part of another "watergate". Looks like you both should not be in office. And as for Palin's husband being a "shadow govenor" and her letting this happen, she should be sacked and lose her job. As for the "bridge to no where" it turns out she lied about that also. Alaska should call her to step down. How embarassing. Now she is running around in NY thnking she had foreign credentials and hasn't any at all. Biden has more than she does for VP. I know the Republican state neither does Obama, but we are talking VP spot not presidency. Republicans always like to mix "apples and oranges". Face it McCain made a hudge mistake picking her to be his VP just so that he can make happy the "christian right and all the skirts feel important. Bad move Mccain.
