McCain, Palin ride the momentum
In their first post-convention rally, John McCain and Sarah Palin are together in a small Wisconsin town today to try to keep the momentum going.
Palin reminded an enthusiastic crowd in Cedarburg that she was the mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, and that she knows what small-town residents are like. "They're always proud to be an American," she said.
The Alaska governor praised McCain's stand on Iraq and the troop surge last year -- and hit Democrat Barack Obama for opposing it. She said that Obama had said it was "doomed to fail," then noted that Obama said in an interview broadcast Thursday night that it had succeeded "beyond our wildest dreams."
Palin said since Obama was "fundamentally wrong," he's now pretending that everyone else was wrong. But, she said, McCain was right all along.
"He is the only great man in this race," she declared.
"Isn't this the most marvelous running mate in the history of this nation?" McCain asked.
With her help, McCain said he will end the reign of special interests and lobbyists in Washington.
"Their day is done, it's over, it's over," he said.
McCain also cited the new report showing 84,000 jobs lost in August.
"Times are tough," he said. But then he quickly turned to blasting Obama over his tax proposals.

To Sarah Palin: I find it disgusting that you have the audacity to criticize--even make fun of--Barack Obama's service as a community leader who helped people on the south side of Chicago (rather than running off to a law firm with his Harvard law degree and making millions) while you stare out to a crowd of thousands of people holding signs that read "Service" and exclaim your campaign's mantra, "Country First." From one woman to another, I'm happy for you that you wear lipstick, are a self-professed soccer mom and a member of the PTA. But may I remind you that there are millions of other women in this country who fit that same profile? You are a dime a dozen and it's laughable that you and your party think you're fit to be Vice President. Why don't you go home, take care of your 5-month-old infant and keep attending those PTA meetings? Oh, and your 17-year-old daughter could probably use a hand too. Abstinence-only education? Yeah, that's just as much of a joke as you are.
Just wondering how you and the other journalists feel about the McCain camp not making Palin available to the press. Do you agree? Does it deserve any mention? I mean, since you provided us detail about how good his ribs were at his BBQ (lemon juice and pepper, was it?) I thought it would seem odd...
McCain chose the least competent, least experienced, and most extreme right-wing female to have as a running mate. Palin doesn't have a clue as to how small town, middle town, and large city folks are living -- scrapping to get by with the help of community organizers and community workers, the very people she denigrates.
McCain had it all wrong -- Obama had it right. The war in Iraq distracted us from the real enemy in Afghanistan who is now reemerging. McCain was all for the war in Iraq when the war was for Bush and Cheney's oil buddies and Bush's ego.
McCain had it all wrong -- not supporting an improved GI bill for the same troops doing the fighting. But then, he had his education at taxpayers' expense (and ended near the bottom of the class).
McCain had it all wrong -- confusing Shia and Sunni in an interview, saying that Iraq borders Pakistan.
McCain had it all wrong -- times are tough? How in the heck would he know, a fat cat full time, long term politician who got into public office on his wife's beer empire money.
McCain had it all wrong -- can't even tell you how many homes he owns while families are struggling to keep 1 home,
McCain had it all wrong -- wanting to keep Bush's tax cuts for the rich and corporate world (his wife and friends) permanent while the government is drowning in debt.
McCain has it wrong -- choosing Palin.
McCain is so in bed with the special interests and lobbyists (just like his running mate whose husband is an oilman).
McCain is NOT a great man, Palin, he's old, tired, and out of touch.
Palin is the worst running mate McCain could have chosen.

Palin's stall
Governor is stonewalling the Troopergate investigation
(09/05/08 00:11:45)
Gov. Sarah Palin is taking the wrong approach to Troopergate. She should be practicing the open and transparent, ethical and accountable government she promised when running for governor and boasts about now that she's on the national stage.
Instead, Gov. Palin has begun stonewalling the Legislature's attempt to get the bottom of allegations that she, her family or staff violated ethical or state personnel rules.
As a result, the Troopergate allegations hang over Palin's future and cloud her candidacy for vice president.
The allegations are that she, her family or administration improperly pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire Gov. Palin's ex-brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten, who had been in the middle of a custody dispute with Palin's sister.
In July, when legislators started talking about conducting an investigation, Palin denied any wrongdoing and said she welcomed an investigation.
"Hold me accountable," she said.
The Legislature took her up on that offer. But this week, she basically told the Legislature, "Never mind."
Palin's lawyer has asked the Legislature to drop its investigation. He had the governor file an ethics complaint against herself, in a bid to turn the entire matter over to the state Personnel Board, which would hire an independent investigator.
This is not an open and transparent attempt to establish Gov. Palin's accountability. It is an attempt to drag out the investigation until after voters decide the fate of her vice-presidential bid.
Instead, Gov. Palin should honor her pledge to cooperate with the Legislature's investigation, conducted by former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower.
She could start by telling aide Frank Bailey he has to talk to the legislative investigator. She should fire him if he doesn't.
Bailey was caught on an audio recording of a phone conversation with a Public Safety Department official, in which Bailey pushed to get Wooten fired.
Bailey was put on paid leave, not fired. A spokeswoman for Palin said that while Bailey is on the state payroll, Palin can direct him to cooperate with the legislative investigation.
So why is Bailey still on the payroll, after he bailed on a scheduled interview with the legislative investigator Wednesday?
The Legislature hasn't given its investigator the power to subpoena, or compel, testimony of witnesses. Subpoenas appeared unnecessary, since it appeared the governor and administration would be cooperating.
That's over. It's time for the subpoenas.
The Legislature's investigation is supposed to be wrapped up by Oct. 31. That's obviously poor timing from the standpoint of the McCain-Palin presidential campaign, coming just a few days before the national election.
Instead of trying to delay the whole thing, Palin should take a cue from U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens, who asked that his corruption trial be moved up so it would be completed well ahead of the November general election. Voters deserve to know the outcome of Sen. Stevens trial and the investigation into Palin.
When this investigation into Troopergate started, Gov. Palin's response was refreshingly open. Since she became the Republican candidate for vice president, her approach has changed for the worse. America deserves the same openness and ethics from vice-presidential candidate Palin that she promised to Alaska voters in 2006.
BOTTOM LINE: Gov. Palin is stonewalling on Troopergate; the Legislature should issue subpoenas.

'Threat'?
Palin's lawyer tries to play Secret Service card
Gov. Sarah Palin's lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, made an absurd threat in his battle to get the Legislature to back off its ethics investigation of the governor and her staff.
Van Flein said legislative investigator Steve Branchflower tried to call First Gentleman Todd Palin directly on "a secure and confidential line. This represents a serious security breach that we may be obligated to report to the Secret Service."
Hello? Branchflower is acting on behalf of the Legislature. That's a security breach?
Lawyers are supposed to vigorously represent their clients, but claiming that a legislative investigator's phone call may be a security matter worthy of Secret Service attention is ridiculous.
Gov. Palin should keep her legal attack dog on a shorter leash.
BOTTOM LINE: More obstruction from Palin in Troopergate.
The only reason she made a comment about Obama being a community leader is because she was attacked first about being a small town Mayor. If Palin was a dime a dozen how come there aren't other women like in her politics right now?? The women who criticeze her and say she should be with her kids are unbelievable. If you women think like that why don't you all stay at home and be housewives and not work in any big or major roles?? I thought woman wanted to be treated better and be something else besides a mom or housewife. She shows that woman are very capable of being in big power while still having a family.
Gov. Palin is the greatest thing to happen to the Republican party since Ronald Reagan. She oozes with confidence and charisma. I sense a lot of fear in all of the Obama lovers.
Don't worry, if Obama is elected and the Dems get 60 Senate seats, we can expect to be transported to an European style bliss of:
1 Universal Health Care, with long waits like Canada and bureaucrats approving treatment
2 Inflexible product and labor markets that produce double digit unemployment and suffocate innovation
3 More rules and regulations aimed at restricting personal behavior such as no smoking, eating fatty foods, drinking, transportation and energy use. After all if the government is paying for our health and welfare they will want to control it.
Obama / Biden is now doomed !
Barack's wife Michele got a 200% payraise (from about $125K to $325K) curiously a couple of months right after he got elected to the Senate. Tell me that was just a coincidence, or is it a combination of the old boy network and Ivy League cronyism? She works for a hospital that, like most hospitals, touts itself as "non-profit." First, what is so "non-profit" about a hospital paying some non-surgeon administrator $325,000 per year- how many children could have received vaccinations, or teenage girls received sex instruction- I mean sex education- in the south side of Chicago if Michele and the other hospital adminstrator VPs were paid $100k less? Second, what did Michele do to justify such a pay raise, develop some vaccine or something? Third, when will some newspaper (it won't be the Globe) do an investigative report on the corrupt industry called "non-profits"; I've never seen a more blatant example of waste and corruption as is represented by the big non-profit industry. Just another example of the elistist club to which the Obamas aspired to join. Go John & Sarah!!
If my sister's husband threatened HER and used a taser on their child, I'd probably do a lot more than just have his a** fired...
Obamabots think BIGGER Government is the solution!? Yeah, that'll solve all our problems all right. Got a problem? LEGISLATE A SOLUTION! Get the POLICE or NANNY STATE involved.
"HEY MAN, 'THEY' TOLD ME LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE PERFECT! 'THEY' SAID SO! AND IT ISN'T! SOMEBODY'S GONNA PAY FOR THIS! I DON'T WANNA! IT'S NOT FAIR THAT "THE RICH" ONLY PAY 35% WHILE I (ONLY) PAY 15%!!! I WANT MORE! THEY SHOULD PAY MORE! AND I SHOULD PAY LESS!! THAT'S ONLY FAIR!!!!!!!
Obama was a community organizer before he went to Harvard, most likely to help build his resume and frame himself as the token minority with experience in the hood that Harvard wants for Public Relations purposes. Why else would this Harvard elite choose to sit in the Church of Jerimiah Wright. That guy was a complete whack-job and someone like Obama knew it, but Obama knew he was going to use the street credit of Wright to get in good with the political insiders of the Chicago political machine. Obama didn't push for change, he learned the lesson "To Get Along, You've Got to Go Along". He voted "present" like a spineless coward. That isn't a reformer, that's a brown noser.
When you listen to the analogies that Obama uses you can see his basketball references and law references. He talks about VP picks as helping "to make the case". Biden was his scrappy Scranton lawyer that was chosen to connect with the working class (Clinton millions). He talks about criticizing the Press as "talking to the referees".
Wow. What fantasy world do you live in where the middle class or lower pay (only) 15% income tax?! I make 17k a year and pay closer to 25%. And let me tell you, 25% of 17k hurts a whole lot more than 35% of 250k. Why? Because once you .35 away from 250k you still have more than I started with. So boo-hoo for these pathetic overtaxed masses (who incidently make enough to hire tax lawyers that make sure they pay closer to 5% if we're lucky). So much for that rant.
Sarah Palin is the leftists worst nightmare, hence the vitriol.
Go Saracuda.
PS - What is a community organizer? I searched Monster.com for a job description. No such job.
PSS - 125 murders in Chicago this summer. More than Iraq. Nice job you community orgainzer. How 'bout a surge in ChiTown.
I Keep hearing McCain and Palin talk about what they are going to do for this country. I have not heard them explain how the impose to do so. The only thing I have heard so far is a history lesson and Jokes. Kings and Queens of comedy look out McCain and Palin are on the way to get a job because Obama is going to the White House.
More Americans are realizing that Barack Obama does not have the creditials nor the positive American outlook to be President. McCain and Palin will win this election by more than 7%. Americans are waking up to understanding that Obama does not represent what is great about America.
Obama does NOT have more relevant experience than Gov. Palin. Shame on him for suggesting otherwise. Remember he was in the in-session Senate for 143 DAYS before he formed an exploritory committee. That's audacity. Why doesn't the Globe explore more of Obama's background and belief systems. That will wake up even more Americans.
Why is it that free marketers believe so pationately in the principles of trickle down economics? Where is the success and riches that comes from massive tax breaks to the top % of all wage earners? Why is it that under administrations that touts the crucial importance corporate loop holes and tax breaks, the real wages of middle class has drastically diminished? What confuses me is that so many middle class Americans believe that making permanent the George Bush tax cuts will actually benefit them. I don't believe in transforming our country into a european socialized state, but 20 years of conservative, free market economics has shown me that the wealth given to the richest of america will never trickle down. I am more than willing to be convinced otherwise as to why cutting taxes for the middle class while increasing taxes on the richest americans will somehow make the economy any worse than it is today.
Thank you
Here's a news flash Gov. Palin: Wasn't Jesus the ultimate community organizer?
Sarah Palin has hatefully attacked Obama, ignoring his time in the US Senate, which is "sort of like" a state governor except that a senator concentrates on issues that affect ALL Americans. To see his Senate record, I suggest you go to the Daily KOS website & look at Helenann list of Obama's actions.
Hey "Bwug???" If you're paying 25% on a $17k income, then you're not doing your taxes correctly! You should be paying next to nothing. Keep in mind, it's not your withholding that matters, but the total you've paid after your tax return.
As for the rant about trickle down economics, there are three ways I can think of for government to create more jobs: #1 Hire more people, #2 Create tax incentives for businesses to hire people, #3 Cut income taxes so consumers spend more and create more demand for workers.
Unless you're really keen to having a huge government, regulating away your last remnant of freedom, then the only way the government can stimulate job growth is a TAX CUT! Call it what you want, but that's REAL WORLD economics.
News flash, the investigation of Palin in Alaska has been expedited and will conclude in October. Know what that means? There is nothing there otherwise there would be hearings. Why don't we turn the bright light on Obama that has been turned on Palin? His Rezko connections, his wife's huge salary increase when he reached the Senate. He has been at best a very weak member of the US Senate. John Kennedy at the same point was a war hero, Pulitzer prize winning author and author of 4 major pieces of legislation. Obama has not experienced the racial discrimination of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X or Jesse Jackson. He is a taker who has exploited having an African father. He is all about Obama not you.
Sara Palin is just like Ronald Reagan. She will be laughing all the way to the White House.
Obama's relationship with( as founder-Michelle is exec director ) Public Allies and his call for a civilian security force of equal size and funding as the American military oughta send ya running for the hills.Add ACORN to the mix, throw in the Gamaliel Foundation ,Jeremiah Wright , Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, John and Todd Stroger, Luis Farenkan, and it starts to become clear why Obama is so vague about his vision for America-his vision consists of taking working peoples money, starting his own little army, and the afore-mentioned criminals are the ones financing the whole deal. Don't believe it?? look it up.
It almost feels to me like McCain grabbed the first woman he saw at Safeway and made her his VP candidate. The fact that the Republicans would fall all over her is scary. I live in a small town, and she sounds about like a small town political type would sound. I know the right is starved for even semi-attractive females (they think Ann Coulter is hot too), but to base your choice on who is fit to lead this country on that is beyond belief. Any digging into Palin's background will show you she is a far-right extremist, anti-choice, creationist, and anti-environment. Any fact-checking on her speech will show you numerous lies, and she has built up a lot of bad rep for being such a short time in politics. Wake up America, don't give the Republicans another four years, the last eight have been bad enough!
Calling all Democrats, Liberals, and so called Progressives.
You should be shouting from the tallest spot you can find praising the Palin selection if she is as terrible as you think, she will cost McCain the election. From now on praise this selection, be happy that The Obama will rise to his and only his glory.
People all know the economy is struggling. But don't they realise that the since 2006 the Demoncratic party controls both the house and the senate and they are obstructing progress and contributing to the bad economy?.
They ban oil drilling and nuclear energy in USA. They delayed the approval of Judges. The delayed the approval of US ambassador to the UN. They wanted to cut the fund necessary for troops fighting overseas, They want to do carbon trading. They want the terrorists enemy caught to be free. Earmarks etc etc.
The approval rating of congress is so low at only about 15%. .
Don't just blame Bush. Also blame those who obstruct progress.
McCain and Palin will bring about change.
Funny enough people seem to criticize Palin and even made rude comments about her. Why? Are they jeolous that in the nick of time she has made herself a landmark in the political arena. It is understandable if you are Democrats supporters and your profound interest in the party precludes you from seeing things in its perspective. But be honourable enough to make concrete remarks and criticism. But not low down comments that are really uncalled for. The Republicans are vying for the entrance to the White House and so are the Democrats. It is a very important Presidential Elections. To be the C.E.O. of the great nation like America it is time for either candidates and their running mates to show their true and intrinsic qualities. Which means enumerate substance and present its fiscal and political stands for the future. What real changes likely to take place. The President of America is a most powerful person in this present day and has to have the extraordinary ability to withstand rough and tough scenarios and above all make the crucial decisions not just for America but for the whole world to see that it works. Let,s grow up and show your qualities. It is now the time. God Bless America
