McCain promises to protect Americans from Wall Street meltdown

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 16, 2008 03:56 PM

In his latest TV ad, John McCain promises to keep Americans safe, and highlights his experience -- but this time it's from economic distress, not terrorists or enemies abroad.

The spot, unveiled by his campaign this afternoon, is to air on national broadcast and cable -- and appears designed to answer Democratic rival Barack Obama and other critics who have derided him for saying that the fundamentals of the economy are strong.

"The economy is in crisis. Enough is enough. I'll meet this financial crisis head on," McCain says in the ad as images of Wall Street firms appear on the screen.

"Reform Wall Street. New rules for fairness and honesty. I won't tolerate a system that puts you and your family at risk," he pledges. "Your savings, your jobs, I'll keep them safe."

"Experience and leadership in a time of crisis," the announcer concludes.

  1. There is an article on numerous web sites suggesting Amir Taheri confirms that Obama tried to interfere with troop withdrawls from Iraq during his visit overseas. It is being reported in the international press as well. That is a hell of an allegation and directly impacts National Security Policy. Has anyone got more info on this?
