McCain the GOP nominee, officially

His home state of Arizona just put John McCain over the top with its 53 votes and made him officially the Republican nominee for president.
It was an unusual timed roll-call vote, after vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin gave a closely watched speech. She will be formally nominated Thursday.
