John McCain's campaign didn't waste much time coming up with a snarky web video mocking Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden saying it would be "patriotic" for wealthier Americans to pay higher taxes.

The Delaware senator was highlighting running mate Barack Obama's plans to cut taxes for middle class families and noted that those making more than $250,000 a year would pay more because he wants to have President Bush's tax cuts end.

"It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut," Biden said on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday.

The video features bursting fireworks, music that wouldn't be out of place at a Fourth of July parade, and a sarcastically upbeat narrator.

It criticizes Biden and Obama on their tax policies, then shows an image of a white-haired woman. "Higher taxes on seniors and their life savings," the announcer says.

"Lots more taxes!" the announcer concludes. "Lots more patriots!"

Biden stood by the remark in an interview Thursday night on CBS.

He noted that McCain once said it was "immoral" to take a nation to war without everyone paying for it, then added:

"I am so sick and tired of this phoniness. The truth of the matter is that we are in trouble. And the people who do not need a new tax cut should be willing as patriotic Americans to understand the way to get this economy back up their feet is to give middle class taxpayers a break. We take the tax break they're getting and we give it to the middle class."
