McCain's new cast of thousands, all unknown
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Since setting out from St. Paul Thursday night with his new running mate Sarah Palin, John McCain is for the first time being regularly welcomed by Obama-style crowds.
A midday rally Saturday at an airport hangar here seems to have pulled McCain's third straight showing of over 10,000 attendees; until recently, it was remarkable for McCain to speak to one-tenth of that. Although they long ago booked such large venues, McCain aides claim that they are surprised by the turnout. Staff had projected only 1,000 to show up yesterday for a morning rally in a Milwaukee suburb, they said, while an estimated 12,000 ended up flooding Cedarbury's small-town streets.
But unlike Barack Obama's campaign, McCain's doesn't know who any of them are. From the outset of his candidacy, Obama has required attendees to pre-register for tickets to his events, an innovation in data collection that has given the campaign reams of new information on potential supporters that can be used for later contact and persuasion.
McCain has no immediate plans to require the growing throngs at his events to register, according to adviser Charlie Black, who cited the demands such a program would place on campaign labor and technology.

Thereis only one guy that is right for the Presindency He is the only one that actually has the Experience behind him, and that is John McCain
Why would anyone want Obama the Man has absolutley no experience at all He has never fought for any American.
The Only thing Obama did in office was to Raise every Tax bill that went by him. Now I don't know about the Rest of you But I pay to much in Taxes now say YES TO MCCAIN AND HELL NO TO OBAMA
Imagine a country in Europe that has an election coming up. Imagine that country has nuclear weapons and a very powerful army. Imagine that they are about to elect an old cancer ridden man as their president. Imagine that they place an inexperienced person, a book burning religious fanatic, from a remote area of the country with almost no first hand knowledge of the greater part of the country, or the world, in a position to take over when the old man gets ill or dies. Even Americans would think that was irresponsible. What are we doing? Wake up!!!
McCain doesn't need to collect names, He knows who's rich and could care less about the rest.
McCain has vowed to wipe out earmarks, which are targeted funding for specific projects that lawmakers put into spending bills. As governor, Palin originally supported earmarks for a controversial project dubbed the "bridge to nowhere." But she dropped her support after the state's likely share of the cost rose. She hung onto $27 million to build the approach road to the bridge.
that's good.
Say good bye to Yo-Bama and Yo-Biden.
I think the McCain Campaign is now vastly over estimating the crowds - the Cedarburg Rally was attended by 5,000 - 8,000 according to news sources attending the rally! And they will need to hear something more from Sarah Palin other than the pre-scripted announcements! Why are they HIDING HER? If she is NOT Ready To Meet The PRESS - How can anyone say she is ready for even the VP Slot - Definitely NOT the Presidency...
Interesting to see the TRUTH come out! Sooner than Later!
Truth like the $197 Million in Earmarks that she has personaly requested for Alaska in her 2009 Budget and the Fact that she kept the Money for the Bridge to No Where! Like the Truth that she still autorized spoending money to build access roads for the Bridge To No Where on that Island of 2 Dozen People - Wasteful Spending for a Bridge that won't be built! Truth like the Line Item Veto's for Sex Education for her School System, and a Veto for a Shelter for Abused Woman and SIngle Mom's...
We're Waiting For the Truth! You can't hide her in a Cone of Silence Forever McCain!
NEXT!
Obama is running a 21st century campaign. Smart move to ask attendees to register, now you know who they are and where they are, and you learn something about them, while they learn more about him. You can connect with them in the future.
On the other hand the McCain camp cites how doing this would place a demand on the staff and his technolgy. Digital thinking is so old fashioned and out of touch. If McCain had any forethoughts to be different, the work would be easy and the staff would not be over burden. Or does he not have to staff to operate the technology? Either way he goes McCain as a problem. His thinking is outdated and out of touch the majority of the country. Do who want an old president and old ideas, or an innovative president who displays real out of the box thinking?
Obama is running s mean-lean, sophiscated campaign, unlike any one has ever done before. There is no play book for a campaing like Obama's. It is time to step up and embrace REAL Change, America.
What? Unvetted, unregistered "throngs" for McCain/Palin. How can this be?
Perhaps it's time for some fundamental unbiased Investigative Journalism
instead of mere opinion pundits mirroring the chattering classes to one another.
So who cares whether or not they "register", so long as they vote for McCain!
The difference between the two....Obama is politically very shrewd & calculating His cult-like followers & believers are more than willing to forgo privacy and share their personal information. On the other hand McCain's supporters are acting spontaneously & they cherish their personal freedom.
Anyone who watched the McCain speech saw the rude Obama supporters that were secreted into the convention by the opposition. Because the Obama people think on these terms they over-control their crowds and weed out anything that might make them look bad..Like the Muslim girl with the headscarf who was yanked from behind Obama's podium.
Obama is also a lnown control freak which is why it takes his so long to answer spontaneous questions lest he tell a hidden truth and have to take it back by calling himself a "bonehead" & that he "misspoke" or explain "What I meant to say was" ...or "I wasn't in church that day".
as an independent watching the republican natl conv knocked me straight left. i am not passing go, i am not collecting anything, in fact i am giving something - money to obama's campaign! the contrast in the presentation of the candidates and the issues is stark. obama looks like such a diplomat, such a statesman, such a gentleman compared to the hardball, lug dropping, snide and backhand remarks of the republicans. i was surprised and embarrassed for them. i kept thinking of my grandmother telling me that, "one never looks taller trying to stand on someone else's back". another issue is that if something happened to obama i could feel confidence in biden's ability to lead. not so palin.
All these people where told to attend to learn of new jobs, how healthcare would be made available to them. They came away frustrated.
God determines leaders of nations; scripture says He sets up kings and takes down kings. I was for Obama for quite some time, then when I see who McCain picked as a running mate and saw who Obama picked as a running mate; I have wondered why Joe Bidden got picked by Obama; and that was it for me. My man now is John McCain.
Pre - registering just another form of Big Brother and Big Government in action. No change there!
This race is O-V-E-R. Obama lost and MSM lost. McCain is and will be Harry Truman reincarated, guranteed
They use to call a man who sells a woman a pimp. I really don't know what to call this. It gets scarier everyday. God help us! When a man who considers himself a hero has to hide behind a woman skirt ...now that's scary. I wonder who is going to be President if they win. Palin called McCain "my running mate". I thought she was his running mate. Something tells me this woman is bad news for our country. But only time will tell. This race is going to get ugly. And i think her husband is going to get personal with the nation and tell us to kiss his but. McCain has shown very careless judgement. I hope she doesn't destroy his image. He doesn't deserve this. But I know it's coming.
Like the phenomenal growth of NASCAR, the underlying reason for the large turnout at the McCain - Palin events is the public's morbid desire to be there when they (particularly Palin) do the crash and burn.
The throngs showing up for these events are people who have stayed silent during the campaign thus far...from previously disengaged Republicans...to frustrated female Democrats...to enlightened Independents...all are beginning to line up to support the Rebublican ideals. But they are coming out to see Palin, who will be the first female Vice President and potentially the next (2012) President of the United States. Democrats are now afraid that the "coronation" will be postponed!!
There is something in the air and it can't be missed. Palin has changed this race and in my 54 years, I don't recall a comparable moment in time. Hang on and watch this race turn completely over.
I'm not sure which candidate to like over this one. Obama is obviously running a much more capable campaign, but McCain's ineptitiude seems like it could be good at screwing up the government so it doesn't interfere in our lives...
It's the "bible, babies, and bullets" throng come to adore the Virgin Sarah.
We don't need no steenken registration, we know who we are.
People are interested to find out if McCain could really run to reform his own record. It doesn't make sense so they are curious.
Also, people want to see if Palin will just continue to lie about the Bridge to Nowhere. That also doesn't make sense.
So I think people are mostly curious and confused.
The McCain campaign tossed Palin out as a vp candidate like an anarchist tosses a molotov cocktail out at police. It was a crude and cynical attempt to court Hillary supporters and feed the hunger of the far right for an anti-abortion, gun-toting, book banning extremist. Palin and the McCain campaign has no shame in exploiting her family especially their developmentally challenged child and pregnant teenage daughter for political gain. They are shielding her from the press, hoping her lack of experience won't be revealed before the elections. What is the honor in this?
McCain Does Not Support American Soldiers!
September 2007: McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments. At the time, nearly 65% of people polled in a CNN poll indicted that "things are going either moderately badly or very badly in Iraq.
May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.
A Military Hero, or McBush with 95% Bush Vote in Congress?
McCain "Supports Bush/Cheney Iraq War of Choice and Continued Oil Occupation... For Next 100 Years if Needed For Victory"!
What about American Soldiers and Families?
I love your liberal bias. Cedarbury had 25,000 to 30,000. You do an article on attendance and conceal the facts.
McCain has mobilized the hard right wing of the Republican Party and they are coming out in droves -you know- the Ralph Reed, Phyllis Shattley, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly crowd. They were the power behind Bush and now with Palin they will be the power behind McCain. So we change the name from Bush to McCain but that is the end of the change he now mumbles on about . Furthermore McCain has turned this election into a soap opera about Sarah Palin and her family. When people are losing their jobs, their homes, and soldiers are losing their lives McCain wants to turn extremist social issues. Why are we talking about Roe v. Wade again instead of the economy? Why has religious fundamentalism reared its ugly head again instead of a debate about energy or foreign policy? This is the cynical legacy of a fake maverick who has lost the ability to be a straight talker. McCain has turned this election into a three ring circus to avoid facing the truth: We have had eight years of a nightmarish Bush administration and he will bring us four more years of the same economic policies and enthusiasm for war. The McCain of 2000 is dead, meet the McCain of 2008, former war hero who now hides behind his female attack dog! He can run but he cannot hide.
Well, looks like McCain & Palin are welcoming everyone who want to come whereas Obama Hussein and Biden are controlling making people register.
D R I L L B A B Y D R I L L
If AWAR would have been drilled when Clinton was in office instead of Clinton vetoing the bill, we'd be paying much, much less for our fuel and energy costs today. If we drill today, it will only take about 3 years for us to get our energy, not ten like the liberals say; they are lying or either are just not up to date on technology.
"Charlie Black ... cited the demands such a program would place on campaign labor and technology."
A campaign that is so painfully disorganized and understaffed it makes you wonder if these "maverick" Republicans are any more competent then the ones that have been floundering in Washington for the last 8 years. Not likely.
Bush/Cheney/McCain. No More Years!
I was there.
Trying to picture the thousands standing out in the heat as if they were sitting in a football stadium there could have been north of 30,000. There could have been 50,000.
They quit handing out tickets on Thur and required no tickets for under 16. Some county offices were issuing 1 ticket for Husband and wife. McCain offices reportedly turned away as many as 50,000 but in the end anyone that showed up was admitted.
The rally was 90 miles from Denver and I talked to several from Fort Collins and Lamar each over 150 miles from the event.
Sarah Palin is the MESSIAH...coming down from the Frozen North to part the waters, sermonize to the illiterate, and heal the crippled. The Cult of Sarah is born. She is Sarah the Chosen One.
The worshippers are chanting now...hear them chanting as one in mindless ecstasy...and sacrificing a moose on the blood alter to The Great One Herself. The lipstick-wearing bulldog from Heaven Above. Bigger than Angelina Jolie. Even bigger than Angelina Jolie's baby. Bow your heads and pray, all you tiny little people......to THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CELEBRITY...SARAH PALIN.
With collecting names, Nobama is probably the author of the SPAM I get. Don't worry, he'll never get MY info!
Thank You John McCain, for being the honest person I always knew you were!
It's Cedarburg, not Cedarbury.
I know why he now has these kind of crowds. I am a lifelong
democrat who has never voted republican in my life. Tonight
I got a machine recorded called inviting me to his rally in a
nearby community. I suppose if you invited everyone in the
world, you are bound to get some takers. That is what McCain
is doing. Inviting everyone regardless of whether they are interested
or not.
Now, if I were to show up with a T-Shirt that said, "McCain is like my hero Bush",
they would throw me out.
Most likely people are showing up to see the train wreck and circus that his campaign has become since announcing his running mate. Either that or he has fired up the right wing conservative base with his ultra conservative pick. They don't need any data on these people they know who they are the die-hard Bush-Cheney-Hukabee ditto heads who never look at the facts and believe all the fear mongering propaganda they are fed and never take a minute to truly think or analyze anything for themselves. I'm all for women in politics and men but not this women or this man. I've had enough of the current American conservative agenda. I would like to conserve the constitution, American Lives, the economy, and our reputation as a beacon of hope and freedom. In my opinion John McSame and Sara Palin will do neither. They will just plunge us into more of the same failed "policies" that 8 years of Bush has.
what a bunch of dopes. Cute trick by a dumb politician who is a member of a warped, corrupt republican party. Nice try.
Mc Cain is not drawing any more than he ever did. he brought out sarah to distract the American people and this is similar to looking at an auto accident. Her novelty will soon drift away and eventually she will have to answer questions related to her extremist views. Why did you try to ban books from a library Mrs Palin? Why do you speak of teaching abstinence and still allow your daughters older boyfriend to spend the night at your house? Why did you lie about being against the bridge to nowhere and then keep the 29 million from it? has anybody answered your question of a month ago "What does a Vice President do anyways" yet? Is it true that the small town you were Mayor off got more government money than any other in our land and what did you use it for? These are just some good starters for the real celebrity in the race now the one who is being kept like the wizard of Oz behind a curtain. Time to bering out the ad with Paris and Britney and her now right? The Republicans are trying to put their own party under th bus and make us believe they are going to change what they already broke our nation and its economy. Give us a plan Mc Same and we might buy some of your act. We know that you were a POW but it is bad for you when your fellow Hanoi Hilton brother is on You Tube telling America not to trust your temperament anywhere near the button. No Way No How No Mc Cain Palin. AIRBORNE FOR OBAMA.
Veterans hate the way Mc Cainhas been acting and that he was against the GI BIll.
Republicans are rallying for McCain now, Palin is a bold choice and I'm excited. Energized!
I bought my wife a 2 yr subscription to U.S.Weekly magazine last Christmas as a stocking stuffer. I thought she would get a kick out of the deprecating articles about the Hollywood celebrities.
NO LONGER! Cancel our subscription!
After seeing the slanderous, malicious, attack-driven “cover story” entitled, “Babies, Lies & Scandal” meant to publicly embarrass Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin of the great State of Alaska, U.S. Weekly can take its communist drivel and peddle it to some unsuspecting victim elsewhere. To be honest, we all know that U.S. Weekly is far from the caliber of legitimate journalism.
However, since it has a readership in the millions, U.S.Weekly, is clearly trying to flex its Beverly Hills political muscle. U.S.Weekly should stick to what it knows best, like what Madonna has to say about saving the world and how noble she is by adopting children from third world countries. We all know how much better the USA would be with Madonna at the helm; after all she is best friends with another Hollywood liberal political force, Oprah Winfrey. To add to this phenomenal development, Madonna and Oprah, clearly are grounded and certainly connect with minimum wagers in this country, after all we all know that they don’t make much money and live in modest housing to remain relatable to the public. Madonna loves America so much that she spends most of her time in England. Oprah loves America so much that she launched her own magazine called, “O” and graces its covers every month so that all of us unfortunate working folks can be inspired by her grace and ability give away merchandise on her self-aggrandizing show.
The Republican Party has never been popular with the Hollywood set, and I don’t think that will change anytime soon. However, the public knows that you, Ms. Min and Ms. Wenner, are just employees of the New York Times which publishes U.S.Weekly. We aren’t fooled and we aren’t stupid. Both of you are openly and unequivocally Pro-Obama. You have doted and fawned over he and his wife with a child like naiveté. Your Pro-Obama coverage is a shining example of your liberal and leftist leanings. You are the sycophants that are repeating the pattern of Thomas Feyer, the NYT editor that raves about Obama and refused to print future President John McCain’s Op-Ed because our next President, John McCain did not agree with Feyer’s liberal rants.
Attacking Governor/Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin was the wrong thing to do. Not only have you energized the conservative political base in this country because of it, but you have galvanized those that truly love America and defend it for a living as I do. For your feeble attempts at a political insurgency against McCain/Palin, you will most definitely be rewarded!
With a decisive McCain/Palin win!
Compare this to Gov. PUPPET:
~Before getting to the US Senate Obama served 11 years in the Illinois State Senate.
~Barack Obama is a graduate TOP of his class at Harvard Law School. Barack Obama also has a degree in Political science specializing in International Relations.
~Barack Obama worked in Chicago, Illinois as a community organizer, Obama, as the director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago, helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.
~When he joined the Developing Communities Project, it had a staff membership of one person and an anual budget of $70,000, but when he left it three years later, it had 13 staff members and an anual budget of $400,000. Barack turned a public service organization that prepared people for education, jobs and serviced their struggling neighborhoods into a solid success.(EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE)
~Barack Obama worked as a Civil Rights lawyer for 9 years.
~Barack Obama was also a University of Chicago Constutitional Law Professor for 12 years.
~In the U.S Senate Obama has served on the FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE, HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE, VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, HEALTH, EDUCATION, LABOUR & PENSION COMMITTEE.
~In the US Senate Obama has written 890 pieces of legislation, and co-sponsored 1096 pieces of legislation.
Finally, if I get into listing his EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE in RUNNING SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGNS... well you know the rest..... OBAMA EXPERIENCE -- YES!!!! OBAMA KNOWLEDGE --- YES!!!! OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT-- YES!!!
By the way, did you think that the PUPPET masters(Rove,Cheney, and the conservatives) could find another Gov. PUPPET as dumb as BUSH!!
Uneducated and No Experience equals PUPPET!!
Godspeed Senator McCain. America needs the kind of change you and Governor Palin will bring to the White House.
I'm a Dem but I say go McCain good pick for V.P.
Doesn't matter if McCain supporters are unknown and are not celebrities. In American, every vote counts and a hockey mom's vote counts as much as Oprah's! 1 person, 1 vote: true math!
They come to have a look at the woman and marvel how McCain could be so foolish. How dare he throw in a woman of such inexperience and subject us to this when he is so old. How dare he think because she has a vagina that women will vote for her. If they do, then this country deserves the country they get!! This woman is a disgrace, parading her daughter around the stage and the "religious right" the hypocrites praising. What if it were a 17 year old living in a poor section of town? What would they call her? What of the preaching for abstinence and chastity that they now praise the pregnant one. AND that woman has the nerve to be snarky about community organizers, how dare she! And how dare Cindy McCain parade around in 300,000 worth of clothes and jewels when some people don't make that in 10 years. They turn their nose up at the poor. Disgusting group...Shameful.
Obama's tactics are smart just like you would imagine a smart yuppie lawyer might do. However, I find it invasive that if you attend one of his speeches or public appearances you need to register. Also, I wonder what is to prevent someone like myself who doesn't want to register, to just submit false info? Then where does that put his data collection? Oh well, he is giving us a taste of what it might be like if he is elected to the highest office in the land. Maybe we will all have to have a special number tatooed on our torsos.
We had to register for tickets in Colorado Springs and were given the opportunity to volunteer to help with the campaign.
Who is Larry Sinclair? If Biden has been in Senate since the 1970s, why bif job there? Did anyone wver get an official birth cert. from Obama, with an embossed seal on it?
It is momentarily. People are wondering how Senator Mccain who has been part of the problem of the average Americans today by supproting the Iraq war, wrong economic policies of President Bush administration suddenly copying Obama,s political slogan of Change. He accused his opponent of inexperienced yet he went and chosed a running mate Palin who has little or no experience to step into being the president should something happen in case they win the election. All Americans are being forced to accept Senator Mccain's choice of Vice president. She should be subject to the same secrutiny that every other politician undergoes. The GOP should not be shielding her from press scrutiny or security clearance.
The people are coming out to watch Is this really Senator MCCain? That Senator MCCain is being inconsistent in his political message and choice of Vepee.
Consequently, the truth is that most Americans believe that Senator Mccain cannot offer change or has any vision for the Country. Why was he unbale to bring the change in his twenty five years in the senate? The economy is in recession. Unemployment is high, debt deficit is outrageous and Senator Mccain has stated that he does not understand the basic fundamental of the economy. That is reason he is running on security issues. Americans are still wondering what type of change is going to bring if is unbale to fix the economy. Running on president Bush strategy of tax cuts is not the solution to fixing the underlying economic problems. With time, both palin and Senator Mccain will be deserted by the American masses.
And to think he doesn't even have rock bands to warm up and draw the crowds.
That kind of thing is brutally difficult to track on a abbacus and a rolodex cards.
I'm confused about the notation that none of the attendees yesterday at the Colorado Springs rally were registered. Just the opposite is true. Those of us that went WERE required to register for our tickets. EAch ticket distributed needed to be registered w/ the person's name, address, phone and email address, also the county in which you live. The tickets themselves had a portion where this info needed to be filled in, as well. At least for tickets distributed in El Paso County, Colorado, which is where most people are from that went to the rally, there was traceable information taken for each ticket given out. Melissa
Ronald Reagan, for as much as I detested the SOB for not doing a f*cking thing while thousands were dying of AIDS, didn't shy away from answering reporters questions. Reagan had more intellect than 20 Palins glued together, and Nancy had triple that.
The transparency of trying to give the dumber younger Repigs a "Reagan-boner", their idolatry of jelly bean brained Ronnie really
is kinda gay. They are giving Sarah a ronnie strap-on.
now Ann Coulter of the KLONDIKE says she won't answer journalists until she's shown deference.
Whinier than Hillary and 6 times less prepared to govern NATIONALY.
Pull yourself up by your bootstraps COWARDLY know nothing PTA LEaRned, cancer ridiculing, adultorous, Christian Reich fanatic.
Work harder do better as a woman,,,as YOU said to Hillary. NOT answering REAL journalists is SEXIST special treatment.
Y'all... I was at the Colorado Springs Rally. There was a line over a half mile long (three and four abreast) to get in even after the doors where opened. They had over 10,000 tickets to pass out in advance, and we had to go to a campaign office and sign up with our names, addresses and political affiliation (I am a registered Libertarian, and they still gave my family a ticket). I would venture that there was well over 20,000 men, woman and children there... (we had one ticket and there was 7 of us attending). There was a well represented and diverse demographic there... (including the father of Colorado's democratic senator Silver Salazar!) White, Black, Hispanic, Young, Old... It was a perfect image of America.
Could the McCain camp be better data miners? Yeah probably... But that is not their main objective here... they want people to come out and hear their argument for why they should be given the chance to govern... and then in classic American style, give folks a chance to be moved to participate or not. There is no pressure to become a foot soldier in the McCain/Palin campaign as there is in the Obama/Biden organization.
I have read through a lot of the comments above, and I am shocked at the baseless, emotional drivel passed off as reasoned debate. What has become of us? Let's hear some reason, some substantiated facts and then weigh the merits of these arguments accordingly and use our discernment and moral premises to formulate our positions.
God Bless the USA.
