Nader aiming for ballots in 45 states
Independent Ralph Nader declared a victory of sorts today -- his campaign has gone through the hoops to get on the November presidential ballots in 45 states.
His campaign told supporters today that it reached its goal 11 days ahead of schedule. That means Nader will be on more ballots than in 2000 (43 states) -- when as the Green Party nominee he won nearly 3 percent of the vote and was blamed by Democrats for robbing Al Gore of victory -- or in 2004 (34 states).
"Now, the American people will have a choice," Nader's camp told supporters. "To vote for a campaign free from corporate influence. But, as you probably have figured out by now, we are not a campaign that rests on its laurels. So, today we are proud to announce the launch of our eight-week Nader/Gonzalez Get Out the Vote drive."

Don't worry, we're confident that Obama will use the same tactics he used to win his Ilinois state legislature seat by making sure his opponents are taken off the ballot for some inane technicallity. We're confident that Nader won't have a chance to run because Obama knows how to play the political game. Obama is not interested in one's right to vote unless it's for him.
Obama will also make sure workers in America will lose their right to vote in a union election. Obama has said he'll make sure that the legislation being proposed to eliminate workers' rights to hold secret ballot voting will be signed into law if he's president. It's known as the Employee Free Choice Act. Go look it up and you decide.
It's called unionization without a free and secret election. It's un-American.
I swear Nader's a Republican.
Yeah, funny how Democrats keep blaming Nader, but never talk about these points. 1). 250,000 registered Democrats voted Republican in Florida alone, that’s 3 times as many votes Nader got. Why did all those Dems vote Republican? Gore ran a lackluster campaign. 3) If Gore had've won his own home state of Tennessee he would've had enough electoral college votes to win the election. Or if he had’ve won Clinton’s home state of Arkansas he would’ve won. There's about 20 if's so lets place the blame on Nader.. Or here's some more... 4) Bush won Florida by 547 votes - EVERY third party candidate received enough votes to "cost" Gore the election. There were a total of 8 3rd party candidates. 5) Not all of the votes that were cast for Nader would've gone to Gore, in fact according to polls only 39% would've gone to Gore. 25% to bush and the rest would've voted for another 3rd party or stayed home. 6) I think we all can see there is enough evidence to support that Florida was stolen from Gore by the republicans, so there is another party you can blame - and probably the most blame can go to them. The vote count was riddled with inequities and Kathleen Harris, Florida’s Secretary of State, who declared Bush the winner, worked with the Bush Campaign. And of course there is the added benefit of having your brother be the Governor of Florida (Jeb Bush). 7) People who voted for Nader wanted Nader for president not Gore. Since when does that constitute stealing votes when a candidate people legitimately vote for runs for president. I think the Corrporate Democrats and Rebulicans are the ones running and unfair campaign by trying to keep 3rd parties off the ballot.. They are costing Nader the election. 8) Last but not least, DEMOCRATS ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANY 3RD PARTY CANDIDATES SUPPORT!
Let's dispel the myth that Nader cost anyone the election. He ran a fair campaign. Besides, EVERYTING that has happened for the past 8 years has happened with the approval or the blind eye of the democrats..
Yeah, moi, that would be a 'great' explanation for why the Republicans helped keep him off ballots in 2004, right?
I wish your article would explain what a tremendous effort is required to get on 45 state ballots in this country. all you talk about is how Dems might blame him if they lose again, when it'll really be because Obama is unwilling to stand up for anything of substance behind his rhetoric of 'hope' and 'change'
The Democrats are fond to point out that the margin of votes in Florida was so slim - by fewer than 700 - that Nader most assuredly cost Gore the election. Have these Democrats considered that by their own logic, any number of factors could have reversed the result - including had their beloved Bill Clinton kept his pants on?
Nader ran because he offered voters a different choice compared to Gore and Bush, who were both pro death penalty, anti gay marriage, and were in the pocket of the same corporate donors. Nader ran to give likeminded liberal voters a choice to vote for their views rather than forced to vote for Gore. Voting freely is what a Democracy should be about. Nader ran for a political principle that is the foundation of our nation.
In contrast, Bill Clinton couldn't keep his pants on because he is a pervert.
ROCK ON RALPH NADER!
If he gets into the debates he will win. Winning is the easy side of that equation. Getting into the debates is the difficult side of that equation. Nader is polling around 6% nationwide according to CNN/Time polls. Jesse Ventura was polling under 10% when he got into the debates and won. Nader's veep candidate Matt Gonzalez was polling around 6% as a Green Party candidate before he was allowed in the debates for San Fran Mayor's race and ended up just losing that election 53% to 47% despite being outspent 10 to 1 by the Democrats and all their political star power.
I'll say it again. If Nader gets into the debates, he will win. He is not only significantly more intelligent than these other two yahoos on political issues and policy, he is also better on the fly improv hands down. Not to mention that he has policies that polls show are majority population backed. He'd bring it to them in a hard way. To be in the debates though he needs to be getting 15% in nationwide polls. If you get called by a pollster, just tell them Nader. Just to get him into the debates. Then sit back and watch the ensuing butt-kicking he will bring.
Dear Obama hater person:
I looked up that bill as you suggested and I'm not seeing how it is un-American. The bill is supposed to help people organize and join unions? It seems like that is a good, American thing. The AFL-CIO supports it - is the AFL-CIO un-American? It seems that most of the opponents are Republicans. The part about card check elections is a concern... but it said that is only a partial way of tallying votes. It's not like that is the only way it would be done. Maybe they could take that part out of the bill? You are insinuating that anyone who supports the bill is un-American... but that's a lot of people! I'm not sure I know enough about it, but I think you're exaggerating when you say Obama is un-American.
Justin,
If Obama gave a damn about Unions he wouldn't be deadly silent when it comes to the Taft-Hartley Act which is the biggest union killing law ever made and passed. I know where Nader stands on that issue. Repeal. Where does Obama stand? Don't bother wasting your time looking because it isn't a part of Obama or McCain's platform at all.
The Democrats love to blame Nader for the 2000 election because they can't face the fact that Al Gore lost to that pathetic excuse for a human being, George W. Bush. And when they couldn't even beat Bush in 2004, was that Nader's fault also?
The corrupt corporate-controlled two parties don't want Nader in the debates because they know that once Americans hear his positions, they'll vote for him. I know I am.
Want real change? Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08!
