New ads on CEO pay, stem cell research
In today's exchange of ads, Barack Obama is going after John McCain on CEO pay and McCain is hitting Obama for misleading voters on stem cell research.
Both Obama and McCain have pushed for limits on executive pay as part of the Wall Street bailout package. But the Democrat is trying to capitalize on one of McCain's chief economic advisers being the beneficiary of a sizable severance deal when she left Hewlett Packard.
"Last week, another bank went under. But its CEO could walk away with $19 million," the announcer says in the ad. "John McCain’s advisor, Carly Fiorina, the fired CEO who left with $42 million. Barack Obama says it’s got to change, demanded any Wall Street bailout restricts CEO pay."
"You’ve got corporate executives who are giving themselves million dollar golden parachutes and leaving workers high and dry. That’s wrong. It’s an outrage," Obama is shown saying at a town hall meeting.
McCain, for his part, launched a radio ad criticizing Obama over a radio ad on stem cell research.
"Barack Obama and his Congressional allies' stem cell attacks are simply not true," the announcer says. Leading news organizations call their attacks 'misleading,' 'out of bounds,' 'manhandling the truth,' 'wrong.'
"The truth? John McCain and his Congressional allies fought FOR stem cell research. They stood up and said stem cell research was too important for you and your family. Stem cell research will help unlock the mystery of cancer, diabetes and heart disease. It will allow scientists to explore treatment for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Stem cell research will help free families from the fear and devastation of illness. Change is coming. McCain-Palin and Congressional allies. The leadership and experience to change Washington and improve your health."
McCain also started a series of radio ads in Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia highlighting his support for clean coal technology as part of his plan to wean the United States off foreign oil. The ad also quotes Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden telling an Ohio voter that the Democratic ticket was against clean coal.

McCain is so desperate... He continues to take words out of context to justify his flat out lying.
McCain's ad was very dissapointing. Dn't bother to tell us that "leading news orgs" have said Obama's ad was "untrue, blah blah" we know there are always news orgs that say that about every ad. And how about highlighting the difference on stem cells, Dems want to do research on human embryos, when iPSC research is much more promising and doesn't destroy embryos, and they are for THAT kind of stem cell research.
I was disgusted when I heard on the radio this morning Obama lying about McCain opposing stem cell research. First, no one opposes "stem cell research"; only EMBRYONIC stem cell research is controversial and Obama didn't dare include that word; second, McCain SUPPORTS even embryonic stem cell research using the thousands of embryos that would otherwise be discarded from fertility clinics. Obama bin Lyin' indeed!
