Obama ad says McCain campaign one of dishonor

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 15, 2008 05:22 PM

Barack Obama and Democrats intensified their assault today on John McCain, accusing him of running a sleazy campaign and of repeatedly lying.

A new TV ad called "Honor" shows McCain pledging, "I will not take the low road to the highest office in this land."

"What’s happened to John McCain?" the announcer asks.

Then the announcer quotes a series of critiques from commentators and the press: "He’s running 'the sleaziest ads ever,' 'truly vile,' 'dishonest smears' that he repeats even after it's been 'exposed as a lie,' 'truth be damned,' a 'disgraceful, dishonorable campaign.' "

"After voting with Bush 90% of the time, proposing the same disastrous economic policies, it seems 'deception' is all he has left," the announcer concludes in the ad, which is to begin airing today on national cable and in key states.

The Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, added a "Count the Lies" webpage that lists articles from independent, nonpartisan fact checkers about claims made by McCain, his campaign, or his surrogates-- 51 and counting so far.

"John McCain's decision to run one of the most dishonest and dishonorable presidential campaigns in history is one more reason to reject his promise of more of the same failed policies and broken politics," said DNC spokesman Damien LaVera. "John McCain has kept his promise to run a new kind of campaign, but unfortunately that has meant going to new lows. Why should the voters trust John McCain with our country's future when he doesn't respect them enough to honestly defend his flawed and out of touch agenda?"

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds responded to the ad, “As Americans face economic uncertainty, it is clear that Barack Obama would sooner hurl insults than discuss his record of seeking higher taxes during a down economy, opposing additional off-shore drilling to reduce energy prices and voting the partisan line nearly 100 percent of the time. This latest ad by Barack Obama is a desperate effort to move away from talking about his thin, but alarming record on the issues, and it isn’t going to reform Washington or strengthen our economy.”

UPDATE: The McCain campaign hit back this afternoon with a memo laying out its defense against questions about ads it has run against Obama.

"Over the last few days, the Obama campaign has watched their poll numbers falter and decided to lash out with personal attacks against Senator McCain and Governor Palin," the memo says. "While their attacks can be explained in part as an over-reaction to declining poll numbers, they are also symptomatic of a candidate with a thin record who is unable to explain problematic votes and statements. Senator Obama unwittingly provided a preview of this strategy in Denver when he said: 'If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.'

"Because in many instances the facts are not on his side, Senator Obama has made up for this by hurling insults in the hope that people will not examine the record."

The McCain camp argued that while Obama has increased his earmark requests each year in the Senate, Palin has decreased hers as governor. It also asserted that Obama indeed has supported explicit sex education for very young children. And it argued that Obama has voted for tax hikes and that his support for increasing the capital gains tax would affect middle-class Americans.

In Michigan today, Obama's running mate, Joe Biden, argued that McCain is trying to fool voters with his claim of bipartisanship and reform.

"Eight years ago, a man ran for President who claimed he was different, not a typical Republican. He called himself a reformer. He admitted that his Party, the Republican Party, had been wrong about things from time to time. He promised to work with Democrats and said he’d been doing that for a long time," Biden said. "That candidate was George W. Bush. Remember that? Remember the promise to reach across the aisle? To change the tone? To restore honor and dignity to the White House?

"We saw how that story ends. A record number of home foreclosures. Home values, tumbling. And the disturbing news that the crisis you’ve been facing on Main Street is now hitting Wall Street, taking down Lehman Brothers and threatening other financial institutions. We’ve seen eight straight months of job losses. Nearly 46 million Americans without health insurance. Average incomes down, while the price of everything -- from gas to groceries -- has skyrocketed. A military stretched thin from two wars and multiple deployments.

"A nation more polarized than I’ve ever seen in my career. And a culture in Washington where the very few wealthy and powerful have a seat at the table and everybody else is on the menu.

"Eight years later, we have another Republican nominee who’s telling us the exact same thing: This time it will be different, it really will. This time he’s going to put country before party, to change the tone, reach across the aisle, change the Republican Party, change the way Washington works. We’ve seen this movie before, folks. But as everyone knows, the sequel is always worse than the original.

"If we forget this history, we’re going to be doomed to repeat it -- with four more just like the last eight, or worse. If you’re ready for four more years of George Bush, John McCain is your man."

  1. Why is the media so bias towards Obama?
There is something very wrong in our society when the media selects a candidate as a favorite.
Have we not learned from history where such blind worship leads?
The dictators Hitler, Mussolini, Kim Jong Il all began as a cult of personality worship. The media for these dictators were slanted during their rise and then controlled after they assumed power. Obama is clearly following the same pattern.
Obama and his wife have a horrendous history of evil and whenever facts of Obama’s infamous life is mentioned, the press ignores it. But for Hillary, McCain or Palin, if they so much as sneeze, they are mercilessly taken thought the ringer and insulted by the press relentlessly.
Is this because we are afraid to criticize an African American or because some powers above are manipulating the media?
    - It is also interesting to note, that my Obama critical posting are often banned or removed by the mediators of blogs or newspapers. A shocking example of this is The Swamp - Tribune's Washington Bureau who will almost NEVER print anything anti-Obama yet they are ubiquitous throughout the Internet.
Obama is not even elected yet, and Obama’s cult followers have already managed to implement restrictions on Freedom of Speech. What will happen to us if Obama were elected? He will teach our youth to be thugs like himself. And if you don’t know why I call him a thug, find out how he got elected as senator and look at all the ill associations he has hobnobbed with throughout his life. Remember when he gave the finger to Hillary on national TV and now calling Palin a pig.
We have clearly become a society whose depth of thinking is equivalent to that of Britney Spears and we will pay for this lazy intelligence and lack of critical thinking with our country. We are setting the stage for an American Mussolini.

  1. Mr. Obama can beat his gums all he wants about Mr. McCains lack of honor, but his own chickens come home to roost. When it comes to honor, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Obama can even spell the word. He is giving as much smear as he is getting.
He can smear McCain and Palin, but their not suppose to do in kind after all they are Rep and only democrats are allowed to hit below the belt.

The best way to fight dishonesty is to fight with honesty....and what do we get from McCain's lobbyist mouthpiece........whining and snifling...........what else would you expect from someone wanting to push 8 more years of failed policies upon the electorate. Way to go Obama campaign.........can't wait for the debates when McCain has to defend his lies face to face with Obama and the entire country.....

  1. Obama (Dems in general) should be heavily running ads against the failed, immoral, unlawful Bush policies... then point out how McCain supports such as accolades as "Heck of a Job" to Brownie re Katrina, etc, etc. .What a strong economy we have going for us right now (more Bush propaganda)... Bush turns his back on vets who need help... Bush turns a blind eye to the World... to Science, to values dictated by the Golden Rule, on and on, McCain supports the same-o, same-o. Historically, campaigns against the former failing regime are successful. Let's get on with it and win this one, wipe all that lipstick off and look directly at the Bush policies and inherent tenacity of McCain to continue them..

  1. All the McCain campaign has now are lies. Nothing to point with pride to. If they don't lie about Obama, they know Obama will win, so they drop to the bottom of the tank and lie, lie, lie.

It's sad to see McCain sink to that level. But he's proved before that he'll sell his soul to be president when he kissed Bush in public after Bush stood by and watched the RNC trash his little adopted daughter as his illegitimate black child without saying a word to defend him. McCain saw his presidential aspirations as a hopeless dream until he put that ditz Palin on the ticket and began a series of outright lies about Obama. Now he figures he has a chance. He believes ... and probably with some justice ... that Americans are dumb enough to buy his lies. Pathetic.

  1. Let's see, the GOP runs untruthful ads and the sweet and pure little Democrats are just victims, right? That is pure hogwash.

The Democrats virtually invented dirty campaigning and have putrefied every election in my lifetime with false accusations, lies, phony vote counts, multiple votes per individual, and dirty tricks. The liars can’t even agree amongst themselves in their own primaries. The reason is they know what they are up against – each is as sleazy as the next. The difference has been that the media has always looked the other way. When I see a headline that refers to “THE ONE” as a “MISOGYNIST PIG”, my feelings regarding the press may begin to change.

Nixon learned his dirty tricks from the Democrat dirty trickster who sabotaged his campaign when he ran for governor of California and then wrote a book bragging about it. In one of the closest Presidential elections in US history, in 1960 Nixon again lost to Kennedy by margins in both IL and TX by amounts larger than the total number of registered voters.

Why do you think Democrats are insistent on NOT requiring ID’s to vote? Afterall, they need one to drive. They need one to cash a check. They need one to buy a house or rent an apartment. They need one to get a job. Are we to believe the Democrats are doing this to make it easier at the poles OR so every Democrat can go back to the polls 15 times and re-cast their ballot? Hmmm, I wonder.

Remember the "Daisy ad" that lied about Goldwater? In both 2000 and 2004, Democrats ran phony ads telling black voters that the GOP was out to keep them from voting. It is a never ending stream of rank BS from those that actually have the “audacity” to cry foul over RESPONSES to their slimy tactics.

Again In the 2000 & 2004 campaigns, which Democrats are still crying about, The Miami Herald, a mullet wrapper, driveway liner liberal rag if there ever was one, spent over $500,000 of its own money to “prove” Bush lost. Their conclusion; he won both times. I guess that just reaffirms that many democrats simply are unable to read.

For the last 40 years the democrats have scared the elderly in the country to death with lies about Republicans cancelling social security. The myopic souls don’t even realize that in GWB’s first term, he and a Republican controlled congress increased social security entitlements by the highest percentage ever to the highest dollar amount in US history. That, by the way, was an attempt to reach across the aisle and the only thing you hear from imbeciles on the left is the budget deficit is because of the war.

In this campaign, Obama has been whimpering that the GOP was going to attack him because of his name and race (none of which has happened). As I recall, the lovely and charming Democrat party has given America the Ku Klux Klan, White Primaries, Poll Taxes, "voter literacy tests", Gerrymandering, Union thugs intimidating voters, the Daley machine, the Prendergast machine, Tammany Hall and , more recently, has registered tens of thousands of illegal aliens to vote.

That is in comparison to the fact that the Republicans have delivered (not promised) the two most important contributions to American Civil Rights in American history- 1) Lincoln 2)Overcoming filibuster after filibuster to make sure the civil rights act of 1964 actually got past over the fierce objections of ignorant Democrats.

This tribe of miscreants is unfit to govern by any measure. Please spare us your tripe about unfair elections and your mindless drivel about the virtues of Obama, the Democratic Party or its constituents.

What happened to the politics of change...of reaching across the aisle...why is Obama focusing on a negative message?...why he is always reacting?...why isn't he talking about his message, or the Obama doctrine?...ooops, forgot, he doesn't have a message or doctrine! just more of the same of Pelosi and Reid. Frankly, those two scare me much more than any other member of the legislative or executive branches.

  1. So the way to solve our current economic problems is to tax more and create more government programs - all politicians stretch the truth and some more than others - but dems are lying to themselves to worship Obama as a political savior who certainly is not standing by his pledges such saying he will use public campaign funds. We may need some changes - but this requires experience that goes beyond being writing or having ghostwritten two autobiographies before you have ever accomplished anything.

I am still trying to figure out why and what are they waiting on. Sleazy attack from the right. Counterpoint from the left. From the right, accusations & denials based on counterpoint from left. Doubt it? Watch the trend. The vast majority of negativity has started from McCain. It is the same abhorrent tactics used against McCain in 2000, being implemented by the same abhorrent people.

Stop. Stop. Stop. We, the independents whom you are courting, are absolutely tired of it. McCain, you would have earned my vote in 2000. But you, sir, are not the man you were then. Obama's campaign is a grass roots effort---meaning that he has been relating to the people since the beginning of his run. He has traveled across the country visiting the communities of the people. His contributions have come from individuals. I'm tired of the fear and hate mongering.

To me, the real Christian values are having concern for the poor, the undereducated, the unemployed, and the sick and caring for our God-given environment. I have been waiting for somebody like Barack Obama who is trying to bring people together to achieve these goals.
The world and the United States economy and environment are in too much trouble to continue the same old policies of George Bush. Heallth care should be universal the same as education. I would like to see the private insurance companies go out of business. Corporate greed is costing more money than taxes would to support health care for all. My pension has gone down after 11 years. The lack of government regulation of business has caused one disaster after another. Government should protect the citizens not greedy large multinational corporations. Please vote for Barack Obama and true change.

  1. I know this is a retorical question, but I would like someone in the media to ask it of the McCain - Palin campaign. At the Republican Convention, McCain told 40 million people that the Republicans in Congress had done many things wrong and were corrupted by Washington and that he and Sarah Palin were going to change all that and reform the Republican Party and Washington. My question is; precisely which Republicans running for reelection to congress or the Senate would you suggest should not be reelected and will you not campaign or raise money for them?

  1. Tucker Bounds certainly has chutzpah. Was the McCain campaign talking about the issues when they were accusing Obama of calling Palin a pig? Were they talking about the issues when they were accusing Obama of supporting 'comprehensive sex education' for kindergarteners? I don't think so.

Julie Alton: you complain about the media bias, but then you compare Obama to 'Hitler, Mussolini, Kim Jong Il', and say he has a 'horrendous history of evil'. I'm independent, but I've done a fair bit of research and the only way you could possibly think that is if you've believed every single rumour about Obama that's been spread, no matter how unfounded or blatantly untrue.

You also say the press ignore Obama's life. Have you been under a rock? I know far more about the Rev Wright and Rezko than I'll ever need to.

I suspect your postings elsewhere get deleted or not posted not so much because they're anti-Obama, but because they're unfounded rants.

I think the real question you should be asking yourself is: why are you so biased against Obama?

The media has had it's ga ga , smitten love affair with this rediculous, socialist, left wing extremist in fluffy wolfs clothing. Even rational Democrats are feeling the nominee's remorse. The truth hurts and as more information about Obama is released (the stuff the media won't reveal) the polls will reflect an even further gap.The vast majority of Obama supporters are either ethnic, welfare collecting and government dependent anti- American desperados or Socialist "intellectuals" who support unions and big government. Oh and let's not forget "shared prosperity" AKA take from the hard working ,successful and moral people and give to the lazy losers who hide behind the Democratic machine. If Obama wins, we'll all be poor and speaking Spanish when the Islamic extremists blow up their next American targets. Hopefully the next 9/11 will be in Hollywood.

  1. to Julie Alton, post 1. 11:31 am.

Julie, your claims are truely outrageous and unfounded. A comparison of Obama's supporter base to that of Hitler? Mr. Obama teaching our youth to become thugs? These claims and the assertion that our media has already selected a candidate and established a bias provide a shining example of "lack of critical thinking."

How can you liken the support base of Mr. Obama to worship of terrible dictators of the past? The energy and commitment of Mr. Obama's supporters is no more enthusiastic than that of Mccain's. You would understand that if you have attended/watched any rallies or campaign stops. Frankly nothing more must be said on the topic because of the rediculous nature of your assertion.

As for Mr. Obama teaching "our youth to be thugs like himself," I counter with a question. Have done any research into Mr. Obama's life, education and professional accomplishments? He has distinguished himself as a talented scholar and advocate for human rights and improvement of our education system (which I would hope to produce young minds with more intellegence and logical thought than the author which I am responding to).

The media has not chosen their candidate. Were you aware of the buzz around Sarah Palin. You can quote many media sources that she infact stole the focus from Mr. Obama. If you have been following the campaign season you would know that the focus has shifted back and forth. The focus seems to be one of conflict, i.e. the insults, skeletons in the closet, and smearing.

People such as yourself, who have formulated or hopped-on-board such outrageous lies, outline the issue you addressed. It seems there is at present "a lack of critical thinking" if one would assert that we are "setting the stage for an American Mussolini."

  1. Dear, dear Julie Alton, it is no wonder that "your critical postings are often banned or removed by the mediators of blogs or newspapers " as you protest, they are so far off the wall as to be almost ludicrous, no, make that ludicrous.

The "lies webpage" referenced in the article refers to "independant, non partisan, fact checkers about claims made by McCain and his publicists" and notes there are 51 and counting. There is nothing, nothing, that even comes close to your statement that "Obama and his wife have a history of evil". Why would a Harvard Law graduate, president of it's law class and capable of earning a $200,000 income from a top Wall Street law firm give it all up to help the underprivilaged to
help the kids on the strets of Chicago.

There is good reason for anyone to restrict publication of your rantings. They are so obviously off the wall as to be asinine - even McCain would not stoop so low as to endorse the garbage you are sprewing.

  1. I think it's important to explore why Obama's accusations and/or McCain's actions are important.

I don't feel very sorry for Barack Obama. He's a tough guy in a tough business, and should know that smear tactics are all part of the game. Sympathy for Barack Obama isn't why I find McCain's actions troubling in a presidential candidate.

The president of the United State will be in a position to lead this country, both domestically and in the context of the entire world. A good leader will use smear tactics sparingly if at all in pushing his/her agenda. A poor leader will need to resort to smear tactics and other less savory tactics. A poor leader will not inspire Americans or foreign leaders to willingly follow.

The administration of George W. Bush demonstrated how this kind of leadership produces a backlash of mistrust and uncooperative behavior from both foreign leaders and the populations of foreign countries. It also demonstrated that this mistrust and uncooperative behavior fairly directly results in problems moving important strategic American initiatives forward.

The funny thing is, Sen. Obama has based his campaign on the same language. I've said that Sen. Obama has sounded exactly like pre-2000 Bush when he keeps saying he's going to shake up Washington and work with those across the aisle. In attacking McCain for the very same rhetoric, is Sen. Biden not completely discrediting the entire "change" theme of the Obama campaign? How strange that the Democrats are now attacking the "experience and judgment" of the Republican ticket, while the Republicans are out there promising "real change". Seems to me that the Obama team is attacking these smears and "lies" because many of them are actually the truth and it stings, so they have to demonize McCain for speaking the truth.

  1. We have 2 well-chosen candidates running essentially on their party platforms:

One candidate wishes to expand the role of government and take a more "activist" stance in improving people's lives, while conducting a foreign policy that it more accomodating to the wishes and desires of our allies (and perhaps our enemies?).

The other candidate wishes to limit the role of government in people's lives, cut back on incidental "earmarks" and other Congressional perks, while continuing an Ameri-centric foreign policy.

I see nothing sinister or evil about either candidate. I'm curious why either campaign would chose to call the other "liars." Both men have earned the right to represent their parties and positions in this election, and both are entitled to run on their beliefs and opinions. Obama earned the right to claim the mantle of Democratic nominee by running an incredible campaign, and soundly defeating all comers. McCain similarly earned that right, and has suffered indignities too innumerable for anyone to even suggest he lacks the integrity of his convictions.

All the name-calling is really besides the point. Consider what these men are saying in light of what you believe to be best for your country, and make your choice.

  1. The paradox of American elections is that the conservative and religious right do not care whether their ticket lies or not. Wining is everything and truth does not matter. I cannot understand the religious right not correcting this in their man now that they are energised by the so called palin effect. The collapse of GWB is just a pointer to worse to come. This is hypocrisy of the highest kind and may ultimately lead to the fall of the US.

I plan to vote for Obama in November.

  1. The sad fact is that both sides launch smear campaigns with little to intelligence. Gone are the days when candidates would have to debate 10+ times over the course of a few months. Today we have 2 candidates, neither of which have given us concise, detailed explanations of where they stand on the issues of economics, social security, or energy. What they have given are a series of commercials, complete with sound bites, to try and mislead us into voting for for their shadow agendas. Make no mistake, both of them are in the pockets of big business and neither have displayed an ounce of political integrity.

Meanwhile, the one candidate that has been 100% truthful about the state of American politics and the dirty road of misdirection so diligently trodden by both sides has been accused of being a crackpot. I'm talking about Ron Paul. I don't know a single person who has listened to this man speak about the issues that affect 90% of us who has then labeled him a crackpot. Just Youtube the GOP primary debates to see that Paul destroyed the opposition, just to lose the nomination for not being crooked enough.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire?

With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

    Educational Background:

    Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

    Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

    vs.

    McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 of 899

    Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
    Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

  1. *I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight*.....

If you grow up in Hawaii (isn't that our 5oth state?) raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, and shooting wildlife for sport from an airplane, you are a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you couldn't be a regular American.

Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

If you graduate from Harvard law School then you are unstable

Attend 5 different small colleges - including the University of Hawaii! - before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, become the
first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter
registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131
bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city
council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while
raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a
    real Christian.

Cheat on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you advocate the teaching of responsible, age appropriate sex
education, including how to help little children escape from sex offenders and child molestors, you are eroding the fiber of society.

While governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teenaged daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

Your husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

If you devote your life to making our country a better place for all Americans, not just a privileged few, then you are not for change.

But if you are under investigation for getting people fired because they can't get along with your family, then you are a candidate with "integrity."

    OK, much clearer now.

  1. Cherie De Souza,

If we interpret your listing of educational credentials correctly then the only people qualified for president/ vice-president are Ivy league elitists. Quit being an elitist snob for once.

But let's dig deep into those elite academic credentials, shall we?

Univ of Delaware is a legendary party school for decades - yes, even when dino Biden attended it. For you local Bostonians think the extreme party side of BC plus Zoo Mass. That's Univ of Delaware. Not a whole lot of studying going on there. Never has been. No Cum Laude either for Biden.

B.Hussein Obama transferred from Occidental College to Columbia for two years for the sole express purpose of having more blacks in his class. That defines his racism. He states that in his autobiography. He did NOT graduate with honors or with any type of academic distinction from Columbia. So, how does someone who does NOT graduate from honors get into Harvard Law? Affirmative Action. Pure and simple. And that Harvard Law editor position is a figurehead position - Obama admits he never wrote an article but only edited a few from others. He NEVER offered an original piece of thought to that magazine.

So much for these lofty academic credentials. Dig deep. You may not like what you find.

  1. The undecided and the uncertain are looking for specific answers to specific questions and Obama is running out of time to provide them.

That ad is a joke, because I, as with most people also remember Obama repeatedly saying he was going to rise above this type of politics and yet here he is wallowing in the mud...quoting 527's masquerading as media outlets. No one is buying it.

When you have been proved to be a liar as much as Obama, for him to call someone else a liar...doesn't have the effect he thinks it does...especially when he quotes media oulets who are less respected for telling the truth than he is.

If as president...when Putin lies to him... is he going to take an ad in the Moscow papers, quoting the NYT's that Putin is a liar?

Pretty weak Obama...it looks like Hillary was right. She said when the Republicans came at him in the general election, Obama would fold like a deck of cards. Apparently she was right...wasn't she? I don't even like Hillary but she certainly had Obama pegged.

Posted by dan September 15, 08 03:30 PM
    - It is also interesting to note, that Obama critical posting are often banned or removed by the mediators of blogs or newspapers. A shocking example of this is The Swamp - Tribune's Washington Bureau who will almost NEVER print anything anti-Obama yet they are ubiquitous throughout the Internet. Doesn’t slanted reporting and opinion contradict the concept of news? Doesn’t China and Russia do this?
Obama is not even elected yet, and Obama’s cult followers have already managed to implement restrictions on Freedom of Speech and undermine media neutrality.

  1. I really wish the media would get back to the issues...McCain's camp wouldn't like that though:( It is really sad that people are being lied to, RIGHT TO THEIR FACES...and would still vote McCain/Palin...

Seriously folks, if you went to a automotive repair shop and they charged you TONS AND TONS of money to "FIX" your car and didn't, would you keep throwing good money after bad at the SAME SHOP? I am guessing that MOST people wouldn't be so gulliable...They would pick a DIFFERENT shop and hold the other one accountable for the mess ups!

I love it when the Republicans try to blame the Democrats for the problems we are seeing because they have a minor majority in the House and Senate anyone who would believe that needs to go back to school to see how things are done...If Bush VETO's a bill, they need a SUPER MAJORITY to get the bill passed! This means that Republicans need to be on board as well! WHICH ISN'T HAPPENING! The Republicans vote against bills that would help and if they do get through the PRESIDENT VETO's THEM! it is a vicious cycle that will continue if McCain gets elected! People need to be educated about how things work, BEFORE they pass blame...Put the blame where it belongs...BUSH's VETO PEN and the REPUBLICAN opposition to Change!

Time for Change America- Vote Obama/Biden because the only "Change" McCain offers is his position every other day!

Posted by Jilery September 15, 08 03:47 PM
  1. The Republicans would like to blame democrats for the last two years...Lets look into that shall we in the house and senate there are "rules" for how bills are made into law- Something that the Republicans don't want people to know (because they have been BLOCKING progress)
Once a bill has been proposed and send through the House and Senate,
The bill is then sent to the President. The President can sign the bill into law, veto it and return it to Congress with his objections to the bill, or do nothing. If he vetoes the bill, the Congress may override the veto by a TWO_THIRDS or a majority vote in both houses. It then becomes law without the approval of the President.- The Republicans WON'T cross the isle to implement bills that WILL HELP! this will continue if we Elect McCain into office...We need change people or we will continue to deadlock...Our Economy is in shambles, we are fighting TWO wars and we can't afford as a country to have more of the same...

  1. This is what happens when Obama unleashes his wolves to do his dirty work for him. Nice bunch of DISHONEST, UNETHICAL and UNPROFESSIONAL peons you have in your party.

The editor of The Atlantic Monthly said Monday he is sending a letter of apology to John McCain after a woman the magazine hired to photograph the Republican presidential nominee posted manipulated pictures from the photo shoot on her Web site.

During the shoot, she took several other backlit pictures, which she then doctored and posted to her site. In one photo, she added blood oozing from McCain’s shark-toothed mouth and labeled it with the caption “I am a bloodthirsty warmongerer.” In another, a caption over McCain’s head says, “I will have my girl kill Roe v. Wade,” an obvious reference to his running mate Sarah Palin’s anti-abortion positions.

Editor James Bennet said Greenberg behaved unethically and will not be paid for the session. He said the magazine is also considering a lawsuit.

“She has violated the terms of our agreement with her, of our contract with her so we’re taking steps. So we’re looking into what steps we can see to do something about that,” Bennet told FOX News, adding that he is “already drafting a letter of apology” to McCain.

“I mean this photographer went in there under our auspices to take a cover shot for us … but while she was there she behaved in an incredibly underhanded and unprofessional way,” he said.

  1. I was also very disappointed by Obama's selection not settling on Hillary Clinton, as I also wanted to see a woman as President (and willing to settle for VP)... BUT, Sarah Palin is a poor choice to represent the views of most women. Gender, as well as race, should not be our primary means of choosing candidates. Hillary supporters need to remember what Hillary stood for - universal health care, regaining respect in the world, women's rights, and the greater good. McCain-Palin do not measure up - even if there is a woman on the ticket.

  1. Looks to me that is NOBAMA that should be disgraced, to all you dems during the elections two years ago, Nancy pelosi promised they would cut the cost of fuel. How's that working out for you? When the gas prices went the highest last month, it was then that Nancy et al went on a month long vacation. Have you ever heard of Franklin Raines or Jim Johnson. Both served as CEO of Fannie Mae, making millions while running the agency into the ground (incidentally, costing us tax payers plenty). They both currently serve as key political and economic advisers to Obama. Does the name Rahm Emanuel (Dem) ring a bell with you. He served in the clinton administration but more recently is a huge supporter of Obama. Well he served on the Board of Directors for Freddie Mac and during that time, he opposed every reform proposed by the Bush Administration that would have impacted Freddie and Fannie Mae.You've also heard of Charlie Rangal. He also fought reform of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and is himself now having plenty of ethics problems in that regard himself. You don't believe there is media bias. Let's see how long it takes for them to challenge old Charlie. As to obama himself, he served as a community organizer for south side Chicago. Have you been there lately? It didn't work out so well for them. In fact, instead of posting here, why don't you educate yourself. Check into the Lawndale Restoration project and see how well he "serves his constituents". There are so many things you need to educate yourself on and I suggest you consult something other than the KOS.

  1. Up to this point, most of what I have seen is about emotions. I am reminded of a preacher preaching an emotion-filled sermon and working the congregation up to a high pitched frenzy. After a member of the church leaves the service, someone asked "what did the preacher preach about?" The person responds, "I don't know, but he sure preached a good sermon."

I think we too often get caught up in the emotions and lose sight of the message. What I have seen in the last few presidential elections is a deliberate play on the emotions of the electorate. What I can't understand is why do we let people manipulate us over and over with the same tactics and speeches? Need we remind ourselves that we live in a free society, and it's ok to think for yourselves...Robert

Do you make under $250K a year? If you do, I would seriously consider looking into voting for Obama...Do you have health insurance through your job? If you do and you vote McCain he is going to TAX that benefit! He is proposing tax credits of $2500 for individual and $5000 for Families but given that policies range in price for a decent policy $7000 for individuals and $12000 for families...Do the math, MORE people will not have healthcare!

Now with people's home's, pensions, 401k's at risk, we are finally going to have to ask: do we want to continue the policies of the last eight years or pusue a different course. Do we want a candidate who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School or someone who barely got out of the Naval Academy, young and smart, old and stubborn. In addition, should something happen to either of these two, who would you rather have running the government and negotiating with foreign leaders: Biden or Palin? So it's really not all that complicated.

  1. This campaign season is historical in its ability to inspire and mobilize younger generations to involve themselves in politics and regain a pride in their country.

I understand why McCain would want to seize Obama’s slogan of Change; it is innovative, inspiring, forward thinking, and it works. “McCain is grounding his message of political transformation in the guise of personal character and biography.” The maverick that John McCain was, is no more – that was history. We need to move forward, to look forward to real change.

The RNC campaign is all about personalities. They have no substance, no foundation, they have nothing to stand for, therefore they can only attack, and distract from the fundamental issues that the American people want to address.

Palin is not an agent of change; I quote a commentary referring to her as a “trojan moose hiding a potential disaster of four more years.” Indeed she is the lipstick (distraction) on the pig (McCains failed policies). She is McCain’s Bridge to Distraction

“America, we are better than these last eight years!..This election is our chance to revive and relive the American promise that ordinary Americans can pursue and reach their dreams".

Obama’s campaign has been premised from the start that we need a fundamental change in government. This is what Obama's campaign is all about. Real change, not just rhetoric.Focus on Obama"s inspiration and leadership to take us into real change.

  1. To Elinor #63,
Would you know that back in the day when Barack supposedly graduated Cum Laude from Harvard, the professors were doling out A's to students who weren't deserving of them. That system has changed at Harvard and only a percentage of students are awarded A's. In addition, Barack wasn't an A student at Columbia University. I would rather put my trust in an older and wiser candidate, than a young, cocky, and audacious candidate.

homophobic, pro-life lunatic who thinks that because she can see Russia from Alaska, that she's qualified to take the helm.

Using the " she is a woman, I am a woman, so I think I'll vote for her argument" or the " If Hillary can't play, than I won't play for your team either" is beneath intelligent women everywhere.

So, raise the tax on the rich with so much loopholes to regulate all this daylight robbery.) SEC, Treasury, Federal Reserve Bank and Congress with all this entitlements you get when you retire, do your freaken job and hold people accountable for all this mess. (Retrieve assets from corrupt CEO's decisions for zero net worth paper/instruments.)

McCain and Palin I think do not have a clue on the calculation of how the economy is measured. Because they do not have strong backing from well renowned economist backing them up to resolve such crisis that we are now experiencing (Bank Failures all over the nation & Feds printing more money with no collateral thinking with GNP and debt we have accumulated from all misjudged events) Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm forecasting on the realities of global competition.

He is a divorced man who left his first wife and three children for his rich trophy wife. He divorced and remarried in a matter of months, and later admitted he did not behave honorably. He and his first wife were very good friends of Nancy and Ronald Regan, who were shocked at his behavior and stopped socializing with him. When Our Lord was on the Earth, he had a LOT to say about divorce, which most modern Christians ignore, while they are strongly against abortion and homosexuality, of which Our Lord said nothing. How can we vote for a man living in unrepented sin?
What other Christian values will he ignore as President?
