Obama brings in record haul
Barack Obama's campaign announced today that its fund-raising tally from August was its best showing to date. The campaign raised an eye-popping $66 million last month, thanks to more than 500,000 new contributors. The campaign says it now has 2.5 million contributors and $77 million on hand.
"The 500,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to kick the special interests out and change Washington," Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe, said in a statement today. "We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than 2.5 million donors to the Obama campaign who are contributing to help us deliver the change we need instead of letting John McCain just continue the same failed Bush policies while middle class Americans struggle."
McCain, though, put up his own impressive numbers in August, raising more than $47 million, in part thanks to conservative donors excited about his pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate. The $47 million included money raised by the campaign and McCain's share of a joint fund-raising arrangement with the Republican Party.
McCain has opted for public financing, which gives him about $85 million in public money but prevents him, now that he's been officially nominated, from raising additional money from donors.
Last month I got energized by the Palin nomination and made my first ever political contribution in my 40 years of voting.

Obama raises a lot of money. If he wins the election, does it mean that the election is really decided by money? To prove it otherwise, should we vote for his opponent?
Besides, when so many people can donate so much money to a political campaign, what is the problem with the ecomony? No body is poor, right?

When Politico.com reported that Bush operatives were prepping vp nominee Sarah Palin it was like an alarm bell to Democrats all over the country. Nothing revs up Democrats like the words George Bush. Remember all those Dems in freezing Maine, or in downtown Wilmington, or in Utah--who knew. Well, it was the same two words. Listening to Sarah Palin repeat the same tired message we've been hearing for the last eight years just proved we're even more revved up and ready to. All over America groups, especially women, are gathering to let the Republcans know that they are not tokens who can be moved around at will. We were drawn to Hillary not only because of her historic candidacy but because of a lifetime of advocacy on issues that matter to women. Rev'd up, ready to go.
Obama's campaign is looking to kick out special interests and to change Washington. Has anyone told the campaign that Biden has been in the senate for a very long time and his son is a lobbyist in Washington.
Let's talk about the midle class that is struggling. Did Obama vote to raise taxes on every American making over forty two thousand dollars a year. Yes, he did!!
Also, his campaign needs to stop using the word "change". It's almost like hearing the same top forty song played over and over again. We get it!!! You'll open the borders, redistribute wealth, burden the taxpayer with entitlement programs, increase government spending, and be as effective as Jimmy Carter.

As a 63 years old feminist I am in shock and despair at the stage where the Republicans have the US reeling and looking at another 8-12 years of more of the McSame--McShame of torture, loss of civil rights, rights to choice, loss of the constitution, separation of church and state, loss of our planet. So many us are in deep despair at McSlime's display of deep cynicism in selecting a dangerous ill-educated zealot as VP, who may well become POTUS when the 72-plus near-dementia Liar-in-Chief McBush dies in office.
How can you read this article then look and believe in any of the poll numbers?

I found the other piece in the globe about "Seeing Through Obamaeconomics" offensive after my recent visit to the NH Barack event in Concord, NH. During his short presentation Obama not only outlined specific steps he would take to shift the variables of economics onto a healthier track, he also followed up with how he would pay for it. It is offensive to call Barack's strategy "class warfare". Balancing the books, giving labor a share of the pie in exchange for their work (he's not planning to give anything to an imagined group of idle people) , reviewing the rules for earned and unearned income within social security are among some of the responsible steps Barack plans to take. He linked community service to college tuition. Once again, it isn't as though Barack was hoping to transfer education to thousands of idle people.
Labor could argue that human capital - or use of labor - that the top earners enjoy (they get to do the hiring and decide on the distribution - or lack thereof - of health benefits (normally considered a right in most civilized societies - not a privilege) is "class warfare" in reverse - eh?
I suspect you prevent readers from responding to the Obamaeconomics article because you are afraid of the sheer volume of replies that would point toward the truth under this upcoming election. Over 8,000 people attended Obama's rally in Manchester, NH - and you can bet they will make sure their votes count in this election!

What an eye-opener that is! I was on the fence about Obama but having read his backwards views towards basic economic theory there's no way I can vote for him. I can't believe someone who attended Occidental, Columbia and then Harvard has just an ignorant view of economics. He must not have even take Econ 101. He really misses the point of how our economy works. His grounding in economics must come from the Communist Manifesto - read it and you will see why.
