Obama slams McCain on foreign cars
Barack Obama's camp is trying to put John McCain's into a ditch in Michigan by accusing the Republican of lying by highlighting his loyalty to American-made cars.
“I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud,” McCain said in a TV interview this month with a Detroit station.
But Newsweek reported that McCain's 13 vehicles include three foreign-made ones: a Lexus, a Volkswagen, and a Honda.
Today, a United Auto Workers regional director will stand before a convoy of 13 American cars at his Flint headquarters to ask: If we can’t trust John McCain on something so simple as what kind of car he buys, how can we trust him to deal with our economic crisis? Auto workers in Grand Rapids will hold a similar event today.
The Obama campaign also launched a new TV ad in Michigan that shows the snippet of McCain's interview and questions his support of the local auto industry.
"John McCain, not talking straight to Michigan," it says on screen at the end.

Okay I see numerous errors in this fuss:
1) "I've bought American all my life" does not mean "I've bought ONLY American all my life".
2) The foreign-made cars aren't in John McCain's name but Cindy McCain's.
3) The one vehicle in John McCain's name is the Cadillac CTS (a GM vehicle).
4) The Lexus is " registered to [Cindy's] family's beer-distributor business ."
5) The fuss is over 3 out of 13 cars!
Honda cars are MADE in the United States (Ohio to be exact) with an American workforce. Go look it up. Then again, people who live in Taxachusetts don't even think Ohio is in the United States.
Again, another ATTACK ad from Obama with absolutely no basis in FACT.
Some kind of CHANGE and HOPE he turned out to be!!!

Oh buy the way, not all Hondas are made in the United States, you would have to know the VIN number to see what coutry it was built. I don't think attacking someone's character is the way to get your message accross.
I would think the fact that he owns thirteen cars would be bigger deal than the fact that three of them are foreign. Besides, most "American" cars aren't produced in the US, they're manufactured in Mexico or Canada. American-manufactured usually is twisted to mean North American-manufactured. Anyways, most American cars suck - they get worse mileage, fail more often and cost more than foreign cars. I owned a Dodge that blew up at 73,000 miles. It was cheaper for me to buy a new car than to replace the horrible engine Dodge put in my car. So I bought a foreign car and it has treated me better than Dodge, the American company, did.
It just shows how Obama is struggling if McCain's cars and houses are an issue. It just tells me that Obama doesn't really have any plan but the blame game like all the other Dems. Does anybody ask Teddy Kennedy is he oly buys American Whiskey? No, it from Scotland! Maybe the folks in Tennesee should be worried about that!
Some spawn of a Democratic lawmaker should go and hack the VIN numbers from McCain's 3 suspected foreign cars.
While we're on the topic, maybe if GM and other American car makers had even just a little foresight over the past 10 years they wouldn't have jammed Hummers down our throats and cut off their own feet.

The fifth person to comment here says that "all the fuss is over 3 out of 13 cars." Are we supposed to say, "Oh, it's just three of the cars he is lying about! That makes me feel better." How many Americans even have 3 cars? McCain is a major sell out. How sad.
Most everybody I work for drives a foreign car. SO WHAT! I have recently purchased 2 foreign cars to replace our family's personal vehicles. One was a Lexus. I don't think it is un-american to buy a car that is built well and expected to last over a 100k miles. Who wants to vote for someone who wants you to act stupid, for America's sake!!! Leave that to our politicians.

Our president is held to a higher standard. If the bar is to high, then get out the game. A lot of Americans own foreign cars, go figure, but the President is not just any other American. And the hell, those cars are being used to transport beer, you must be nuts. Not to mention he lied and boasted about it. David Jon Sponheim is running as a write-in candidate for President. He put forth the idea of the US government having a US auto-corporation , manufacturing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and competing with other auto manufacturers. Thirteen cars is an awful lot of cars.
Several weeks ago I read on the internet that Obama drove a Chrysler 300. Perhaps he just recently purchased the Hybrid Escape to gain the respect ( and votes) of the younger voters who are more in touch with the "environmental friendly" automobiles of today. This is a perfect example of American stereotyping "dumbed down" to attract a mob of voters who can not function at a higher level.
At least Cindy McCain is not an heiress to Budweiser! Let the Obama followers complain about that!

How does one drive 13 cars...unless 1 or 2 or at one of the 11 Homes they own. People at this age tend to cut back expenses as they tend to disappear to dust.
John Maccain is so out of touch with REAL PEOPLE, no way in h**l he'll know what American / United States really needed. Ya we honored him as a war hero, and we DID honored him, it's so past tense, doesn't mean he is qualified as our president, he should retired and fully utilized the HONORED he was given anyway. I think the only way it's not American is if he bought them overseas. I mean the dealerships I am sure were in America and they make most of the money and yes the manufacturer gets a piece too but I would think if I bought a car here in America then I bought American. Seriously if that is all they have are personal attcks get the @#$% on! Maybe everyone should watch the whole interview and not trust just the snip-it from Obama's ad.

First of all, I'd just like to say the fact that the Obama campaign is even bringing up the subject of foreign car ownership is simply ludicrous. If anyone changes their vote because of this issue, they don't deserve to vote in the first place.
Second, the McCains may own thirteen vehicles, but they also have seven children, all of driving age. Furthermore, those thirteen vehicles include a vintage Jeep and three electric golf carts. Only one of those thirteen vehicles is actually John McCain's and it is American. The rest are Cindy McCain's, who is an accomplished automobile racer and enthusiast. The Honda is 99% likely made in America given the model year and model. The Lexus is a company car that the McCain’s obviously didn’t choose and buy personally.
Furthermore, Obama only recently purchase the Ford hybrid after he was slammed for owning a Chrysler 300C that averages a whopping 21mpg, while simultaneously chastising people for wasting gas. And how exactly do the Obamas manage to have two jobs and two school aged children with only one car? Maybe this explains it a little:

haha you east coasters think you are so smart. Just because a car is welded together in Alabama, doesn't mean the parts are bought from companies like Dana, Delphi, Lear, ect. Yes, the Japs have created some jobs in American south, but nowhere near the jobs lost here in the midwest. Of course, you dont care because its not your job... until now.....
