Palin helps Obama raise money
Barack Obama's campaign sent out another fund-raising appeal tonight based on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's attacks.
And why not -- it said it had brought in $10 million since Palin's speech on Wednesday, a one-day record for a fund-raising machine that has been breaking all presidential campaign records.
In the new appeal, the Obama campaign said, "With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed, and actually laughed out loud at Americans who engage in community service and organizing. Our convention was different. We gave the stage to everyday Americans who hunger for change and stepped up to make phone calls, knock on doors, and raise money in small amounts in their communities.
"You may have missed it, but we also showed the country a video with the faces and voices of those organizers, volunteers, and donors from every corner of the country. Watch the video and make a donation of $5 or more now to show that in this election, ordinary people will make their voices heard."

I am a white Republican female community organizer and I am so offended by the remarks of Palin and Juliani about community organizers. (Of all the people to dismiss community organizing, I would never have figured Juliani to do such a thing after all the good community organizing did for NYC post 911.)
Both of them blew it. I will not only vote for Sen. Obama now, but I will also help do some organizing for him in my own community. But, of course I'm sure they won't miss me and the other 2 million community organizers who are insulted...or will they?
All we are hearing from the Republicans at this convention is more brash bold-faced lies and attacks and nothing substantive for us to walk behind. As an independent, I clearly see Obama as the only choice when comparing the tickets. We don't need another idiot President like Bush. McCain is so Not-himself that he cannot think on his feet anymore. On the other hand, there is Obama who can not only think on his feet but actually write his own speeches. Remember... leaders motivate and create movement with their rhetoric and passion to fulfill a vision that will benefit Americans. We need a leader who epitomizes America, a World Leader who will deliver a little peace to America by changing the discourse that we have with other nations. My vote will have to go to Obama.
A: "People who cannot spell."
Q: "Who aspires to be a community organizer?"

belittling anybody is a strategic mistake by any party...they deserve to lose any support, if they choose short time gains, so be it.
I guess Palin and the Republicans don't care about community or community organizers......these people made the gulf coast run after Katrina.
We wouldn't be here without them, as Bush and our own country were not the first responders after katrina...community people from churches and towns who cared were!!
As a teacher, a mother, and a christian, I will not only be voting for Obama, I just gave to the first presidential campaign of my life at 39!!
As I've seen written in other places:
"Jesus was a community organizer, and Pontius Pilate was a governor."
I am 25 and never really paid much attention to politics. I am proud to say I made my first donation to any presidential campaign. GO OBAMA!! YES WE CAN!
Palin and McCain actually make me want to gag when I hear them speak. They literally give me anxiety.
It was the Democrats and main stream media who were belittling Palin's tenure as a Mayor and as a Governor. Palin simply pointed out that a Mayor and a Community Organizer are not that dissimilar
Your Obama surrogates try your best to twist the truth.
The truth is that Governor Palin as the #2 on The Republican Ticket, has MORE executive experience as Governor and as Mayor than the #1 on the Democratic ticket.
Governor Palin, as the Commander In Chief of the ONLY permanently active National Guard in the entire nation, has more Commander in Chief experience than Obama.
Gover Palin has clearly demonstrated her political courage by taking on corruption in her on party. Obama clearly demonstrated his total lack of political courage by refusing to disavor his racist pastor. Obama later DID disavow Pastor Wright but ONLY after Wright made disparaging personal comments about Obama during his speech before the Washington Press Club. Political Courage? I think NOT!
hahaa.. Dems are scared and are giving Obama more of their money.
Palin hit the nail on the head, and bursted Obamas phoney propaganda in one speech.
judging by the commments, its clear Boston.com's paychecks come from Oprah.
I just finished watching McCain deliver his speech to the RNC. I believe he is a good, honest man, but does he inspire people to become involved and move them to want to change their world? Barack has done that for me.
It was also painfully apparent to me after seeing the differences in the diversity of the audiences (the delegates) which party represents ALL of Americans.
GeraldD
Gov Palin didn't say that being a community organizer and a mayor of a small town weren't that dissimilar. She said sarcastically that being a mayor of a small town was like being a community organizer except she had actual responsibilties.
A lot of the reporters in the media have a liberal lean but Sen Obama can't control that. No one from the actually Obama camp spewed hate and sexist filth toward her. It was only the media so she needs to slam the media. You should get facts straight before you post. If you're going by executive experience, Gov Palin also has more exec experience that Sen McCain. Gov Palin doesn't actually command the Natl Guard in Alaska. Gov Palin is currently under investigation so she may be corrupt herself. We'll see. How can you say Rev Wright is a racist? The media, the liberal media as you say, played 2 clips that totaled 5 mins that showed him making controversial remarks. He's a black man from an era where I'm sure he saw hanging of blacks, couldn't eat in certain places, he was in the navy and probably saw discrimination in the service so his life expereince make him feel a certain way. But he was was a pastor for 30 years and there were 2 short clips from his 30 yr career. That's tells me that's all that could be dug up. If you've not be to the church and you going by the 2 video clips, you don't know. The word is the Gov Palin's church is somewhat radical.
Dear GeraldD
"The truth is that Governor Palin as the #2 on The Republican Ticket, has MORE executive experience as Governor and as Mayor than the #1 on the Democratic ticket."
You're right, of course. Senator Obama has no executive experience. On the other hand, neither does Senator McCain ....
Are you claiming Governor Palin should be #1 on the Republican Ticket?
I look forward to your reply ;-)
Susan B.
Appreciate your words, and your service Liz. There are many who stand with you.
well, shucks then geraldD...we just go ahead and elect palin as president based on your description of her,...she has more experience than mccain!!! and she wears lipstick apparently to hide the fact she's a pit bull (who we euthanize when they bite someone).
GeraldD, Barack was ELECTED to the #1 spot after a year of campaigning. Palin was PICKED at the last minute. You talk about twisting the truth? Palin FLAT OUT said that the difference between community organizers and mayors was that mayors HAD RESPONSIBILITIES, implying that organizers do not. Go to you tube, she was quite clear. You know who else was clear about mocking organizers? Patacki and that lying, racist, womanizing, politically corrupt, opportunistic piece of crap Guiliani. And I dont want to hear any more about Palin's record till I hear something specific.
The Obama camp and the liberals continuig to take money from poor peoples pocket without telling the poor that they are going to get taxs through businesses in their communities.Obama will raise taxes on businesses in poor communities and then the bussinesses will turn around and demand from poor people to fill the hole the Obama economic plan put there.
Actually, Governor Palin also has more executive experience than John McCain. Seems to be a non-issue.
I was a little concerned about McCain's pick of Palin earlier in the week, fearing it might give republicans a "bump", however, now that I have heard her and see the reaction to her belittling comments about good old fashioned grassroots community service, I am no longer afraid. In fact, I am now very glad McCain made the choice. It will ultimately be seen as the moment his campaign doomed itself to failure.
I have always seen McCain as a very damaged and highly irrational man, his recent choice of Palin strengthens my belief. Keep going John, make more mistakes like this one! :-)
Gerald D..ho hum..Palin's cousin? Or merely a sponge who fell upon a copy of the RNC talking points. Help Us all if this lot get elected.
Give me a break! I guess Palin can read speech written by Bush's people an so what? Does this qualify her to be next in line to be the commander and chief? I thought her speech was really sad beginning for her small campaign. She was so disrespectful for people who accomplished so much compared to her 20 month governorship. Did she write two best selling memoirs? Has she graduated from the best university in the world? Was she a president of Harvard law review? Did she ever serve a poor community with people recently lost their jobs? Has she been a lawmaker for 14 years? Surely Obama must have accomplished something during his service. Sadly, according to her and her party Obama is nothing more than a good speaker. I hope you continue this spin because American people will not be fooled the third time.
John McCain had to pick a Sarah Palin because he had to appeal to his base. She is so far to the right, she scares me. I voted for Mccain in 2000, because he did offer a message of change. In the intervening years, he has courted the right wing conservative base (which I believe is destroying the Republican Party) to get elected. He's no maverick in my eyes, he quite frankly is just a smart politician. I'm giving my independent vote to Barack Obama, who inspires me and millions of other voters. My hope is that he will help to change our country's image in the world. We've lost our credibility and respect under the current President. Barack Obama deserves the next four years to prove that his policies can help our country.
"The truth is that Governor Palin as the #2 on The Republican Ticket, has MORE executive experience as Governor and as Mayor than the #1 on the Democratic ticket."
That's so funny. Palin therefore is more experienced than John McCain.
"Governor Palin, as the Commander In Chief of the ONLY permanently active National Guard in the entire nation, has more Commander in Chief experience than Obama."
LOL - Again she trumps poor old McCain! I suppose next you'll argue that Palin's bachelor degree (graduating after attending five schools in six years) trumps Obama's education at Columbia and Harvard Law School. I mean, five schools! That's more than Obama attended.
You Republicans are dumber than I thought.
I think you are missing the point. I believe Sarah Palin and Rudolph Giuliani are questioning what Obama has actually accomplished. What has he organized? You are being petty and need to quit wearing your "feelings on your shoulder".
@GeraldID
The Democrats and the Media were not belittling her job as mayor. She denigrated community organizers as people with no responsibilities and then laughed at them, essentially calling them worthless.
Palin has "executive" experience? Great, then put her at the top of the Ticket, because McCain has none of this magical experience. The National Guard stuff is bull, she does nothing to lead them. Her political courage? Like abusing her power as governor? Or maybe leading a 527 group in favor of that cleanest of politicians, Senator Ted Stevens.
Talk about offensive, I am offended that a do nothing, know nothing fraud like Obama could even be a presidential candidate. We are seeing the effects of the pitiful education of americans and the leftist radical movement we have allowed in our schools. How in the hell can a community agitator that worked for a organization that has been caught over and over committing voter fraud in Chicago be taken serious. The Media attacks a 17 year old girl and a down syndrome baby and everyone thinks that's great, while Osama-Bin-Bama is friends with a terrorosist and gives him a front row seat at the convention. Not to mention he and his wife hate that's HATE america. Blind, uneducated public is how Hitler and Benito seized power. Everyone thought they were messiah's also. I'm a business owner and Obama will never be my president.
Barack's experience as a community organizer became fair game when he attacked Palin's experience as a mayor, ignoring the fact that she is now governor. It was only right for her to answer that attack.
GO OBAMA GO! This is your time . This is our time. Governor Palin need to take some lessons from First Lady Michelle who does such a great job with her children. Governor Palin is just a pawn in the GOP game.
How can senator McCain be an agent of change when for twenty-six years he could not change Washington?
who care about 'executive experience as governor' - so what?
I want someone who can lead the country by setting a vision and path to get there -- governors and executives are managers.
You don't "MANAGE" change.
You LEAD it. I want a leader, not an executive.
Liz the real republican...I say real because those voting for mccain are alien. two places to go to be helpful are www.barackobama.com and the other www.moveon.com and look for events. You can call (phone bank) for the barack web and you can raise awareness on the moveon.
My husband and I are both Real republicans and are helping obama!
Now honestly people, how long has John McCain been at Washington. At what point did he realized that we needed change? Was it after voting with George Bush 95 percent of the time? Was it after repeating Bush's claim that "The fundamental of our economy is strong? Was it after claiming victory in Iraq years ago? Was it after celebrating his birthday party with Bush while thousands of people lost their lives after Katrina? Was it after not being able to recall how many houses he owns. I choose to vote for someone who has spent time mingling with the lowest of the low because they are better able to understand the struggles of the average American. As a Christian, I know that if Christ was here on earth, He would not be seen walking the halls of Washington and hanging out at one of McCain's mansion. Rather, he would be seen working alongside Barack and other community organizers in looking out for the poor and needy. The true test of a man's character is what he does in private away from the media spotlight. The fact that Obama and his wife, both graduates of some of the top schools in the world, choose to work in one of the poorest communities in American is a testament to their true character. I tells me something about their true values. This is indicative of two people who have hearts after Christ. These are the kinds of persons I want to be my President.
Gerald - aren't you also saying that Palin has more executive experience than McCain? What town or state or business did he run? Or is he a Senator just like Biden and Obama?
RNC you fooled us twice there will not be a THIRD time. GO OBAMA!!!!
After Guiliani's speech I was too angry to listen to Palin, but have since read a transcript. I am not quite sure when it became a crime to go to Harvard and admirable to be 17-years old and preganant. This is what the Republicans were selling on Wednesay. They were trying to make it seem like because Obamaa worked hard, got an education and became the the president of the Harvard Law Review that he was now somehow unqulified to run the county.
To belittle Obama for choosing to serve as community organizer (instead of taking any high paying law firm job he could have wanted) is absolutley unconscionble.
Prior to the convention, I believe McCain had made a decent agument for potential bi-partisinship--but the "us (small town republicans)" vs "them (liberals)' theme of the evening was clear and makes the John McCain a huge hypocrit.
One last thing--McCain has stolen Obama's "change" message--i still have absolute no idea what McCain plans to change...all of his policies seem identical to the past four years. The only thing that seemed to be slightly prgressive was his recongnition of global warming and objecting to drilling in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge..both points his running mate does not agree with.
She didnt criticize community organizers, she stated that it doesnt qualify one to run for president.. Big different, but I guess not to those who like to lie about what Republicans say
$10 million in one day. Palin is the best fundraiser for Obama yet. Hahaha. What a backfire! She is betting that Americans want more of Bush-league politics? Forget about her experience, we should question her judgment. What a stupid move, from a petty, overly ambitious woman.
Palin is KAREN WALKER from 'Will & Grace' - same hair, annoying tinny voice.... The only difference is, Palin doesn't need a handful of barbituates and a fifth of vodka to spew wild insults. The other difference is she's against gay people. Also, forget international experience, what about racial experience???? Are there any other race living in Alaska besides white bread? Speaking of that, did anyone else notice 85% of the Republican crowd was old white men?? That's not REAL America. McCain and Palin are scary!
Nasty Sarah! We need this babe to get lip sticked up more often! I bet she keeps whispering in John's ear...you got 7 houses remember~
GO OBAMA!
Republicans create jobs just not in America!~
I did notice how white, male and old the crowd was! You are right REAL SCARY!
Liz: DO NOT HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON MORE THAN ONCE!
"I am a white Republican female community organizer and I am so offended by the remarks of Palin and Juliani about community organizers. @Robert Boyd
If I were to say that my job "is kind of like your job, except that I have actual responsibilities," how would that *not* be a criticism of your job?
Or, if I were to say, "my wife is kind of like your wife, except mine has actual talent," would that come across as me saying that your wife didn't have talent? Or would you say, "I agree. My marriage to my wife doesn't qualify me for the presidency?"
It was disrespectful. No two ways around it.
McCain is not in touch with middle class Americans. He has 8 homes, a jet, millions of dollars and says Obama is a fool to help people in need. I used to be a republican, over 30 years. Now not only am I a Democrat, but my husband, my 3 sons, and their spouses. I couldn't stand to watch the republican convention, but I did see parts of it on the news. What I saw were a bunch of old white haired men, and of course the new face, a scarcastic, nasty piece of work. Funny how Hillary was ridiculed by them because she was a woman now they think S. Palin is god.
I find them repulsive.
Forever more a Proud Democrat
The Rebubs did worse than criticize Obama for being a community organizer--they laughed at it--used it as a punchline. It was disgraceful. And that is no LIE-I was so shocked..I can still hear it now...
I was terribly disappointed at how insulting Rudy and Sarah were to people who self-lessly serve others with passion, dedication, and a true desire to make a difference. But I guess when you spend more on clothing than most people make in a lifetime, or if you've never lost a job and had to worry about your mortgage, food, and basic necessities, you belittle those who are not in your league and mock those who care about them.
McCain/Palin make me sick to my stomach. As soon as I see their faces I turn the channel. They have nothing, this is why they are spending all their time attacking. They have not laid out one plan to help our broken country. Just saw on CNN tonight, Campbell Brown asking a Mc/Cain spokes person to name her qualifications to be VP, he couldn't answer, he stumbled and then starting attacking Obama, she pushed, he got angry she pushed some more, he still could not answer. McCain camp was ticked, McCain canceled his appearance and they replaced him with Michael Moore. OMG, it doesn't get any better than that. It's amazing to watch the negative always turn to a postive for Obama. And after Palin's speech he brought in 10 million and Palin 1 milion. LOL the
Republican's don't know what to do with themselves.
I watched both conventions and I must say I'm a bit concerned about the possibilty that Palin could become VP and maybe President since McCain is old and dementia and could die in office.
First and foremost I believe a 44 year old mom with small children should be home with her children, not in the governor's mansion and certainly not in the White House. Secondly, I don't see how she could be excited about being a grandmother with a four month old baby of her own. Her priorities are in the wrong order. No telling what else she is proud to be that is wrong for common people.
She is the wrong "Pit Bull" to answer the "red phone" at 3:00 am in the morning. We need to be more realistic as a "people", the McCain/Palin ticket represents people who were (born with silver spoons in their mouths) and not those who do not have money (poor, afflicted and needy). The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer on any Republican Watch. I'm not rich and I have grandchildren that must be educated and have health coverage. I am concerned abouth their future and the future of this country and a "Pit Bull" with lipstick is just what the name implies. Can you imagine what a "Pit Bull' will do in the White House? YES, TEAR IT UP!!!
ENOUGH damage has already been done under the Bush Administration.
It was Obama's campaign that caused this remark by belittling Sarah Palin being a mayor from a small town of 9,000. She would have never made the comment had it not been for that. Beside that 's the role of v-p candidates. They are suppose to be the attack dog. Look at the remarks of Biden.
Being a successful community organizer can actually require greater, real leadership skills than are required to be a government executive. A community organizer, to be sucessful, must lead by example and inspiration. In contrast, a government executive, no matter how incompetent, can force his/her will on the people by wielding the power that law enforcement agencies, the public's tax money, and a guaranteed four years in office provide. In foreign affairs in particular, where we have limited ability to force foreign nations to do our bidding, I suspect that skills learned as a community organizer may be as useful as executive experience.
My inquiries are directed to what the candidates have really done while not in the spotlight that demonstrates a good-hearted spirit, what efforts they have made to develop real plans to make the country a better place for our children, and whether they will surround themselves with experienced advisors and have the wisdom to listen to them and the public who elected them rather than to the lobbyists who will certainly try to buy them.
I'm proud to say I just made my first contribution to Barack Obama! And believe me, baby, I am tight with my money in these economic times!
John McCain DOES have executive experience from his days in the Navy, which may in fact be more substantial than most, since wrong decisions could mean death to those involved. Regardless, as a born-again Christian Republican, I am not so concerned about who will be our next president that I will lose any sleep over it. I have a peace that surpasses all understanding since I believe that this life is but a tiny blade of grass compared to what is to come. I have great pity for those who allow themselves to get so upset over such a tiny event in the grand scheme of things. Those who believe that this life is all there is must suffer greatly under their all-encompassing, self-focused misplacement of priorities, and their desperate need to both seem more intelligent than others, and to win. right.
Sen. McCain said at RHC, “Iran remains the chief state sponsor of terrorism and on the path to acquiring nuclear weapons. Russia’s leaders, rich with oil wealth and corrupt with power, have rejected democratic ideals and the obligations of a responsible power…. We face many threats in this dangerous world, but I’m not afraid of them. I’m prepared for them. I know how the military works, what it can do, what it can do better, and what it should not do. I know how the world works. I know the good and the evil in it. I know how to work with leaders who share our dreams of a freer, safer and more prosperous world, and how to stand up to those who don’t. I know how to secure the peace.”
This scares me the most. Are we going to have the World War III with Soldier McCain, securing the peace? I will vote for Obama who is brilliant, gifted to help us focus on our common goals in our community, our country, and the world. He is the best global “community organizer” who can empower all of us to see “the thread that connects our hearts” in the 21st Century!
My comments are simple...Look at the facts before you jump to conclusions. I don't care how much money a person makes, I am sure that whether you are rich or poor, you would much rather be able to keep that money in your own pockets. Who do you think will be able to make that happen? Who do you think has shown a record of trying to help everyday people do extrodinary things for themselves and their neighborhoods? Because, honestly, this nation is not about the politicians, it is about the people. Without us there is nothing. So, without those that uplift and push to make the neighborhoods that are forgotten and often overlooked by public funding better this nation would really be in bad shape. So, who do you think best understands that concept? Who do you think is more in touch with the people and the real issues that need to be addressed and addressed quickly? I know who I am voting for, but that is after I have listened to the issues and paid attention to each canidate's response.
Lastly, I really want to say this... Vote for the canidate not because of the color of their skin or because of their gender, vote because they are the RIGHT person for you and your family's future stability.
This is to the people who say how smart Obama is "he can write his own speeches"... I guess that is not true if he really reads them in the Washington Post first. He is a suttering bummbling fool who can't form a sentence unless it is written for him. I am looking forward to another Republican victory because the Democrats just cant figure what real people want, which is for everyone to work for what they get, ie: not Obamas 95% of Americans get a tax break when 95% of Americans dont work!!! If you do the math the 5% of the population who make too much to get a break just pay for the others who dont strive to be the best they can be. There is 6% of the population that are unemployed, of which 4% dont want to work, have never worked, and don't intend to work and they will end up reaping the benefits. If that isn't Socialism I dont know what is. I am sick and tired of this Robinhood mentality "take from the rich give to the poor." Go to work! Don't tell me there aren't any jobs... I own a company and look for people who actually want to work everyday. I am sick of the people in this country taking everything for granted. You are not owed anything for being an American!!! You owe it to your country for letting you have your stupid we're wrong they're right point of view. If you dont like it go! I am sure that the countries that everyone is seeking approval from are hoping that the United States are here for a long time. Without us to do what John F Kennedy wanted, "...and our own proposals for a peaceful world, at anytime and in any forum-in the OAS, in the United Nations...without limiting our freedom of action" ( a quote from the Cuban Missle Crisis speech) the world would be a dyre place.
