Palin officially the GOP veep nominee

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 4, 2008 07:41 PM

Sarah Palin was just nominated by acclamation as the Republican vice presidential candidate.

A delegate from her home state of Alaska made the motion, which was seconded and approved with wild cheers.

Utah Governor Jon Huntsman nominated her, calling her a hockey mom, hunter, and reformer who will "kick a few fannies" in Washington.

After the order of business, Heart's "Barracuda" was played over the loudspeakers -- a reference to Palin's nickname as a high school point guard, Sarah Barracuda.

  1. I was a strong Mc Cain supporter until he decided to choose a running mate that only appeals to the far right . Obama might have his faults but he has proven to be more of a leader by taking the high road. Sadly , Plain first shot to capture the hearts and imagination of a nation came across as an angry PTA mom Mad that her child did not get the right school book ( which she would have probably opted to ban) . Mc Cain stop being a puppet of the right. Plain please go back to AK you really have embarrassed your family and america. Why so angry ?

MC Cain We all know this is your last shot at this ... i think you blew it with PALIN. Anger could only get you so far. Dialogue will get you to the white house.

  1. The Right Wings Dings are running scared. They ran the show for 8 years, let the religious zealots to the party, dragged us into an ill-conceived war, and embroiled Washington in a stream of scandals, not to mention the lack of leadership in the economy -oil debacle. Why else would they hire an attack dog to snarl and nip
like she did? It deflects attention away from the real issues at hand. They'll fall as quickly as as she rose. mark my words.

  1. I am an independent female voter. I would have voted for Hillary, my vote is now going to McCain... I cannot stand Obama - our country would be in trouble with his windy rhetoric and lack of experience. That said, John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin appalls me. Is this really the best he could do?!

I dont like her for the same reasons I dont like Obama. Great delivery of a colorful speech but not much substance. Her slumbook soundbites (PTA, hockey, union husband, ...,) may appeal to some, but not to me.I've been reading what I can on her record and there's really not much there so expect more colorful stuff when the debates roll around.

It is an interesting political move - the "pitbull with lipstick" will surely bring out far right voters who normally would not come out to vote. I am curious to see impact on other independent voters.

I am still voting for McCain over "Mr Audacity" but I HOPE he does NOT CROAK... by any stretch of imagination, I just CANNOT reconcile Palin the parochial being our back up to the Presidency. It is an embarrassment to our country and a danger to our national security.

  1. I think that Palin is getting more attention than she deserves. Honestly she doesn't have the credentials to lead our nation. She knows that she doesn't have enough experience compared to Biden so she uses the soccer mom or hockey mom tactic to appeal to the public. It's disappointing to witness how the public fails and neglects to see that we need an intelligent leader like Obama to lead us out of the disaster that Bush caused.

  1. I was quite shaken when I saw video of the 9/11 disaster. How that must have brought back all memories of families who lost members that horrific day. How would Palin like a video of her finding out her baby will be born with a serious illness or her daughter telling her she is pregrant? How would McCain like a video of his time in Hanoi? Some things should be left alone for everyone involved in their space. This was surely a political move. It devasted me the day of 9/11 and brought it all flooding back.
    Obama for President
