Warren says Palin sought guidance

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 11, 2008 01:00 PM

The Rev. Rick Warren is a best-selling author, pastor of a Southern California megachurch, and now a presence in the presidential race.

Last month, he hosted a forum on faith at his Saddleback Church where he interviewed John McCain and Barack Obama back-to-back in their first sort-of joint appearance of the general election.

This week, McCain's running mate Sarah Palin called him, Warren told a Los Angeles radio station, The Hill is reporting online today.

"Well actually she called me yesterday," Warren said. "The question I asked her was, 'How can I pray for you?' "

Warren said that Palin then "asked me to send her some bible verses on how do you deal with the unfair, unjust attacks and the mean-spirited criticism that comes in."

  1. oh pllllllllease!!!!! She's such a victim. Here's how you deal with them Sarah, you respond to each one. They're not mean spirited or unjust, they're truths!!!! If you don't think they're true, then respond!!!!! I haven't heard one response to a specific attack from her yet!

  1. She should know. She was full of the viscous rhetoric last Wednesday. If she can dole it out she doesn't need god to take it.

    What a frickin hypocrite.

  1. To borrow a line from the film Amadeus (when the Lord Chamberlain chastises Mozart for his arrogance), I would say that even though Palin appears passionate about certain issues, she does not "persuade". She reminds me of a high school cheerleader jumping up and down on the sidelines ranting out those carefully rehearsed shouts over and over and over for the home team. And those glasses of hers and that hair style? Was she a librarian in her previous life? Puh...leeeeeese! Get rid of the props Sarah! We forgive you for being a runner-up for Miss Alaska.

p.s. If I hear her mention that damn bridge to nowhere BS again, I'm gonna hurl!

  1. Is it even possible that anyone be more jealous than Buzzed1??? I think not. Having not divulged the gender of the writer it doesn't take much effort to know it's most likely a woman or a guy with a pig for a wife.............As for hurling, yeah, good idea! Hurl.........but be sure you find a high bridge!

  1. Someone once said -- oh, I forget who -- that Hillary was setting women back because of her "perceived whine" about unfairness and sexism.

Palin's whining is grating on MY nerves -- anyone else's?

  1. Every good leader through out this county from the start of the country sought wisdom from God's word... My question is: Why are people so hostile about this? People have a right to either believe in God or not.. Why are the people who don't believe in God oppose those of us who do? Dems and Reps throughout history both requested prayer for the nation and both spoke of God... It is obvious that now in this present time, people are just plain hostile about this.... stop and think.. WHY???

  1. Judging from all the anti-religious diatribes on this board, it portrays Boston as a haven for atheists.

I've never read so much intolerance and outright hatred for people who believe in their god.

    It's pretty sad actually.

  1. Rick Warren, shame on you!!! Unless you had Ms. Palin's permission to make her request of you public, why would you do that? She asked a personal question, help from a spiritual standpoint, and you made that public?? It's not ALL about you Mr Warren

  1. Is Sarah Palin the first VP candidate to possibly be indicted? I honestly cannot think of another candidate this has happened to.

    History being made.

  1. Vicious people tend to whine about how they are victims. Even Hitler had this trait.

Anne Kilkenny wrote this about Palin:
"She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by
her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the
    basis of who proposed them."

  1. Pastor Warren,

Please tell me that Governor Palin asked you to share with the public her conversation that she had with you. You divulging that information is as bad as taking Obama's prayers from the Wailing wall ,in Jerusalem, and divulging those to the public. Very disappointing!

  1. How would you like to have a pastor that goes public with your confessions and consultations? Just another day doing The Lord's work...
