Palin to appear on SNL

Posted by Jason Tuohey October 17, 2008 01:58 PM

Tina Fey, you've got company.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin confirmed today that she'll appear on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend.

She said on Neal Boortz's radio show that she doesn't have the script, but hopes that she gets to play Fey -- turnabout being fair play.

"I should, that's a good idea," she said. "I just want to be there to show Americans that we'll rise above the political shots that we take because we're in this doing serious business for serious challenges that are facing good American people right now ."

"We can do that even I guess through a skit or two on Saturday Night Live, then so be it."

Fey, a comedian who bears a resemblance to the Alaska governor, has been earning rave reviews for her portrayal of Palin during the election.

Palin has taken the impersonations with good humor, joking that gaffes she made in interviews were "to keep Tina Fey in business." Palin also once dressed up as the actress for Halloween, a staffer told CBS News.

Palin won't be the first politician to appear on the show in response to an impersonation. During the primaries, Hillary Clinton appeared on the show with Amy Poehler, who had portrayed the New York senator in skits. The duo -- wearing matching outfits -- kiddingly teased one another over the impersonation, and Clinton's appearance was seen by some as blunting the impact of the impression.

President George H.W. Bush also once jokingly chided Dana Carvey in an SNL skit for Carvey's frequent portrayals of the president.

I will be rolling on the floor laughing because the last thing she needs to do is lighten up her image, she's already seen as a lightweight. She needs to be doing the Sunday morning political shows, to try to give the illusion that she is a heavyweight..

Another decision that shows that Sarah Palin is BRILLIANT !
In these days of Comedy Central, this is the only way to break through to the MTV generation- who has the attention span of a gnat and have been mesmerized by "The One."
Get out there and show 'em what you are made of Sarah! And win those young, independent or even "liberal democrats" into the McCain-Palin "plus column."

SNL had a show on last night. All the McCain impersonations were not flattering yet the Obama ones came off making him look cool.

The timing of the movie W is poor as well as the other politically motivated movies that use artistic license to present a distorted factual account. There is no courage in releasing these movies. Political dissention for the sake of dissention is pathetic. The left is full of emotional loonies that are almost cultish in their fervor.

Be careful America. This is where Fey and Palin pull the old switcheroo. Sunday morning the real Fey will hit the campaign trail, assuming Palin's role, while the real Palin is sent to St. Helena. Never to be seen again. Just like in the movie "Dave", the switcheroo will have unexpected consequences when a sharp, witty, and attractive running mate helps McCain make up 23 points in the polls and he ekes out a win.

Terri - Remember, laughter is the best medicine, and this country is pretty sick right now. Lighten up a little, and just enjoy the few moments of light heartedness! I am really looking forward to this appearance of Sarah Palin, and I am really hoping that Tina Fey will also be on.

Is Palin looking for a career in the entertainment industry. With her whacked out family she could have a reality show. We can call it "Baked Alaskans"

Alec you worry me! Why would someone want trailer material running the country.. Just goes to show you where your roots are.

I have an exit plan out of the US in case McCain wins.

This is really frustrating because allowing Palin this opportunity desensitizes the public to the fact that she is a profoundly dangerous figure in America, who lack of understanding what it means to allow people to be free will lead us back to the middle ages. I only hope that the cast of SNL shows some guts, and refuses to do the show with her on it.

This should be fun to watch. Seeing how successful a waste of a show for the last 20 years can become when you put someone on with a Moral Backbone. I am sure it will be a difficult concept for many of the East and West coast Liberals. I mean do you want good jokes, or do you want your liberal agenda ? People love Palin, and the reason is because she isn't another East or West coast baby killing communist.... Finally it takes of all things a Republican who doesn't think babies should be killed just so you can have your lame East and West coast lifestyles, to resurrect a show that was supposed to be comedy which turned into a classic NY waste of time. Tina Fey will put on plenty of lipstick, and all the while she'll wish this women fails simply because she'd never have the backbone to stand up for anything except for the NY waste of an ideal. True Patriots are willing to die for what they believe in, not kill for it..... Go Sarah, beat these elite NY losers.

As a voter, I would rather see her on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, or any of the Sunday Political Shows. She has dropped a hocky puck, and now will do SNL. Where are the political credentials, Joe Biden has done over 80 ppress conferences and she has done none. I do not need a phoney for an almost president.

Sarah knows she's lost the election, might lose her governorship, and now is working on her future career which will be writing books about her experiences, being a posterchild for the right wing etc so SNL will be giving her a stepping stone to the celebrity hood she took the position on the ticket for to begin with. It's all about her as it's always been for Sarah Palin, wonder who she throws under the bus next? Eat her up SNL, do your country a service...

By the way Alec, the "MTV generation" are now in their 30s. One can only assume that someone of said age would be educated and traveled enough to be concerned about real topics that hit close to home. I agree with Rolanda whole heartedly. But then again, It probablly is brilliant on her part...keep feeding your loyal "red staters" they crap they know and love. Avoid putting your self on the national stage in an uncontrolable environment so as not to get DESTROYED in another political blood bath! Every time she opens her mouth to field un-screened questions she winds up looking like the den mother from Alaska that she is.

Wow! Do people really think with such obvious slanted malice as the poster "stay out of my village"? Does someone who obviously attains her stringent paradigm from a pew really believe that a comedy show is going to sway the world view of all those who live beyond the east and west coast? How about getting past your anger and open up your mind and heart an Idea or two you haven't learned at church, christian radio or the people you choose to exclusively spend your time with that share the same moral elitism and disdain for all things unholy. Perhaps you'll find that all those people from middle america that are voting for Obama aren't so stupid after-all and they don't really want to move to Massachusetts or California. Well anyway, I guess all us Homosexual, baby killing, war hating terrible liberals should just shut up and let you have your perfect country where people with differing views are evil and a world view that promotes bitterness and leads to the death of people like Matthew Sheppard can prevail.

This is great. Watching Sarah Palin attempt comedy will probably be more insightful about her than having her go on some boring Sunday morning talk show. It takes real guts to go on live TV and do something out of your element.
Her performance in the debate proved she could work from talking points and hold her own against a vastly more experienced person. If she can go on SNL and not look like a total bore...more power to her.
They should put her in a skit with Obama and parody the movie "Guess who's coming to dinner." McCain and Hillary could play her parents...that would be so offensive and funny on so many levels...

So all of you angry right wingers need to relax and come to terms with it. Go unwind by shooting a clip at the firing range if that helps. I don't know why you are all so freaked out about Obama. Worse case scenario, he's still a big upgrade over the inarticulate stooge we have in office now.

Silicon Valley says, "I know Sarah will shine brightly and show the SNL crowd that she is the real deal."

Don't you understand that she'll be reading from a teleprompter? There is nothing "real" about this. It's just another way for her to appear in front of the public with a prewritten script, where, it is hoped by her cronies, she will not screw up again. It bears repeating: Zero press conferences. Exactly why would that be, unless her handlers were terrified of unscripted public appearances.

I keep reading and hearing conservatives on this board, at republican rallies, and on Fox News, deride Democrats, their supporters, and Obama himself as the "elites" and "elitist". And so I was a bit confused by this seeming line of attack, so I looked up Elite:
1. A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status
2. The best or most skilled members of a group

So, when you call Obama an Elite, what you are saying is that he is intellectually and socially superior to McCain, or that Obama is the best or most skilled candidate. And so this is the reason we should not vote for him, right?

So then I looked up Elitist, and discovered:

1. practice of or belief in rule by an elite

And so yes, now I understand. If you are NOT an Elistist, it means you don't want the best most skilled person for the job. OK, so then what I am doing here is finding some common ground between Democrats and Republicans. I think we can all agree that Obama is the more capable and skilled man for the job.

We just cannot agree that we actually want the most capable and skilled leader. So then why don't we stop talking about these two candidates, and focus our debate on whether or not it makes sense to elect someone who is actually the best at their job.

It is fair to suggest that maybe, colleges should start admitting people with the LOWER SAT scores. Hospitals should hire surgeons who finished in the bottom of their Medical School class. Plumbing companies should hire people WITHOUT plumbing licenses (oh, wait, got that covered already. Thanks Joe). And Boston.com should hire me as a political analyst. :)

Chris, I believe that the problem people have with the elitist democrats is that they believe that they're surperior to those who don't agree with them... Not that they actually are superior... And colleges have already begun the practice of admitting people with lower SAT scores than others, it is called affirmative action... So, we're getting there for ya, bud...

As someone who's in the category of the age group that is the hardest age to gather, 18-25, (and by the way, we're not the "MTV Generation", that generation, is married with children) this under no circumstance is going to show us that she's "cool" and "in". All it shows is that when she should be coming up with strategies to help protect jobs for those of us just graduating college, creating strategies to solve the economic problems that we are in.

Those of us in the 18-25 category really don't want to see her on SNL. We're tired of seeing her make a fool of herself. If she becomes our next VP we want to know that she is capable of holding her own against the major players in the world. She needs to go on shows that show her intellectual prowess, not whether or not she can tell a joke. She needs to hold news conferences and show that she's just as qualified as Biden, even though he's had decades more experience in Washington where as she's had none. I want to know that if she becomes elected, I don't need to get my passport renewed and brush up on my french.

ridiculous. not even funny, so i guess it's perfect for SNL. The announcement is a great ratings grabber but we all know SNL will not live up to the hype of the anticipation. This campaigning is getting ridiculous. There's nothing funny about the economy right now and there's nothing funny about McCain's insulting pick for VP, and there's nothing funny about Palin's lack of knowledge of her own country and laws and policy's-nevermind her lack of experience with foreign policy or anything else outside of alaska. This is a big mistake for U.S. politics and it undermines everything going on with the economy and war. She needs to get serious, (study the U.S. map for starters), not join in with the people laughing at her, NOT with her.

To Esmeralda Young, "We need to come together as a nation, we don't need hate mongering idiots destroying our country," you mean hate mongering idiots like the Rev. Wright and Obama. No matter what Obama says, if you go to church for 20 years, with a Pastor like that, you have to know who the Pastor is. If he didn't know, then he obviously is not paying attention. And if he did know, wouldn't you think he would have chosen another church if he didn't agree. As far as the comments on the MTV generation, I think the person who posted that comment was not referring to the generation that grew up when MTV started, but rather the age group of 18-20 something year olds who choose to watch mtv and take their political views from that. It's sad how biased the media is towards Obama and how many people really think Obama is going to be great for our country. I just hope those people really know why they are voting for Obama, because many I've asked can only tell me we need change. That's great and all, but they have no idea why they are voting for Obama. I think it's sad how crazy I've seen people get. Whatever happened to human decency? Smearing someone because of their daughter, calling Palin and her family white trash, etc. I'm sorry, but every woman who gets pregnant at a young age is not white trash. And saying that her son Trig, who has Down Syndrome is a reason that makes her white trash is also ridiculous. Grow up. Who cares if Palin is on SNL? I think it's actually brave of her, considering how SNL clearly feels about her and McCain. This election won't be won because Obama is great, if he wins, he will win because the media and his followers seem to be doing everything they possibly can to win, no matter what it takes. Spreading lies, cheating, stealing, tearing down people. I'm sure it happens on both sides, but I just see more cases of it for those voting for Obama. I pray for this nation....it's in a sad state.
