Gore: Florida could decide election, again
Al Gore, returning to the scene of the election meltdown that likely cost him the White House in 2000, drew awkward applause when he alluded to that nightmare for him.
"Florida, as you know, may well be the state that determines the outcome of this election," Gore said this afternoon in West Palm Beach.
It did for Gore, when the hanging-chad vote count ended up in the US Supreme Court, which stopped the count, effectively handing the election to Republican George W. Bush.
Today, Gore urged Florida voters to "really turn it on" for fellow Democrat Barack Obama in the final days.
"When the sun rises here in South Florida on Wednesday morning... you are the ones who are going to make the difference," he added.
"We the people of the United States of America are coming back," Gore said, saying there is "a very clear choice" in the election between "change and more of the same."

Charlie Crist is a loyal McCaniac. If the scale in FL needs tipping it will be done.
Charlie Crist is a loyal McCaniac? You should follow the election more closely. Gov. Crist recently EXTENDED early voting hours to honor the right of Americans to vote freely. At this time, early voters are predominantly supporting Obama leading to GOP outrage at Gov. Crist's action. This anger simply highlights the hypocrisy of the a party that fervently labels limited regions of our country "real America," while openly pursuing the disenfranchisement of citizens in our democracy. I imagine Gov. Crist is a relic of times past when the existence of GOP members with some balance of character was more common. After November 5th, we'll see if the GOP completes its purge of these authentic "mavericks."
While Crist is a committed Republican, he deserves our thanks for extending the early voting poll hours in Florida to allow all voters to participate. In doing so, he went counter to his party's efforts to suppress voting. There is hope for America!
Lived here forty years, if Fl votes for Obama I will be in shock for a month. It is wall to wall republican & if you think Mac has run a nasty campaign, the repubs here are Atwater, Rove to the core & make him look like a pussy cat, a VERY nasty bunch. This will have to be seen to be believed.
He may be a Republican and McCain supporter in a state with a pretty shady election history over the last two presidential cycles, but he has demonstrated a desire to do the right thing by extending early voting hours to alleviate insanely long lines. In nearly every other swing state leading Republicans are fighting the ability of people to vote at all (going back to the old conservative ideal that more voters is bad for conservatism.) I'm not a Floridian and I don't know his politics, but it would appear that in this particular case, Gov. Crist has done the right thing.
Charlie Crist, what the f.. are you talking about!
Charlie Crist took part in forcing the Dems to move their primary. He games the system like anyone. While supposedly governing he goes on talk shows pushing pro McCain polls.
I was active in the 2000 campaign here in Volusia County and by comparsion Obama has an organization that is 100 times better than the Washington run campaign of Gore. They sent 3 lobbist (2000) down a few days before the election and expected to create a win. It is true many Florida Democrats of 2000 went back to Pennsylvania or moved to North Carolina; but the same could be said of those retired Republicans now living in North Georgia. I would shocked if Obama cannot win Florida. The fact that Palin has been working the safe Republican areas along I-4 means this is very close.
