Group files complaint over Palin clothes
A watchdog group filed a complaint today with the Federal Election Commission against Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, the Republican National Committee, and several political operatives associated with the RNC, alleging that they improperly spent $150,000 on clothing for Palin and her family.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics cited news reports that clothing and accessories purchases for Palin and her family included $49,425 spent at Saks Fifth Avenue and $75,062 at Neiman Marcus.
The group said the shopping excursions violate campaign finance law because it specifically prohibits a candidate for federal office from converting campaign funds to personal use, including clothing.
But the law has a loophole for money raised, not by individual candidates, but by political parties. Palin's spokeswoman has said the clothes will be donated to charity after the campaign.
The group, however, is pressing ahead.
“It is ridiculous that RNC would spend $150,000 to outfit a vice presidential nominee and her family at any time, but it is more outrageous given the dire financial straights of so many Americans and the state of our economy," Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW, said in a statement. "As if that isn’t bad enough, the expenditures violate campaign finance law. The FEC should investigate immediately.”

there are so many "nutty professors", here like Sara Palin....
Corrupt McCain WROTE the campaign finance laws Palin is abusing. McCain WROTE the laws Obama is beating him with. If McCain was a good Senator both sides wouldn't have this stuff to complain about.
Gee ... I wonder if this group has filed complaints against:
Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for throwing $700 billion away?
ACORN for trying to destroy the voting process?
Obama and Missouri sheriffs for threatening to arrest anyone who spoke ill of the one.
...
Nah, didn't think so.
I think the funny thing here is the fact that the republi-brats made such a huge deal over Edwards's haircut. As usual, they can give it but not take it.
If the press would spend half as much time and find out why obama can't list all his contributions even from those who gave less than @200.00 which amounts to over $300,000,000.00. This number seems far more important than $150,000.00.
Obuma seems to be hiding more than he is telling about key questions regarding his background. Or all the registration fraud that Acorn is committing. Seems that is what an ethical news media would want to report on
Sha na na na Hey Hey Hey
GOODBYE!!!
Its all over except for the crying.
First presidential election where the Repugs weren't the ones with the most money and all they can do is cry like Rush when he's out of oxys.
To borrow from Shaquille Oneil, "Hey Repugs How does the Dems A$$ taste!"
I have to say that I am not surprised by her act. Abusing Power, Abusing Resources, unqualified, and taking advantage of the situation. Are you telling me that she didnt even have a few suits to wear, and that she had to buy 150K worth of clothing to impress her so called small town followers? that doesnt make sense... on the other hand, Charity? This is the best you can come up with? so if we didnt find out about this, you would have kept the clothes? wow!
Leon Horne (#88)-
I've often wondered how the though talkin', gun slingin' mavericks can be such a bunch of whiners.
Are they the ones who keep talking about taking Personnel Responsibility?
And now here they are, pointing fingers and crying to mommy, "he pulled me hair, just because I spat in his eyes! That's not fair!"
Boy, if I whined as much as the Republicans, my wife would've kicked me out long ago!
Anybody notice that Palin makes paltry money in comparison to EVERY candidate out there. You can bet all of you libs out there would be cutting her down if she wore her same "normal" clothes over and over again. These clothes will get auctioned off and the money donated. Obama spends $150,000 PER MINUTE in prime time for some of his ads. His half an hour ad is going to be around 3 MILLION dollars. Why are you not complaining about that?
Since it doesn't violate campaign finance law what is the point of pursuing an unfounded complaint? Any more importantly what is the price tag? $$$
Very disappointing, but not the first report of Palin's misuse of position for personal gain. Check out the reports of travel and gifts prior to the nomination; it's nothing new. Never before has a republican nominee had such a huge pool of talent from which to choose a running mate, and this makes McCain's choice even more ridiculous. I'm a lifelong conservative republican, but this is way too maverick for me. Shame on all of them!
Michele Obama never stayed at the Waldorf - the newspaper retracted the caviar lobster story.
the $2 million rally in chicago is for PUBLIC SAFETY (police/ambulances/etc) and trash clean-up, etc. it is expensive to make a couple hundred thousand people in a park safe. Chicago is poor, and Obama isn't going to make the city pay what they can't afford. This isn't a champaign party for 500 people - this is an outdoor rally for hundreds of thousands. I donated to Obama, and I support this use of campaign money. he is putting his campaign money where his mouth is - the welllbeing of the people.
Hey, it's just expensive to put lipstick on a pitbull.
I think what Obama effectively did was to create the "USA" company of which he wants to be the CEO. You become the effective shareholder of this company by donating your little amount. Brilliant idea. I think generations to come might follow this. If i donated $100 to Obama, why would i go and vote for MCcain?
Obama has the brains to move this country forward.
Go Obama/Biden!
So, a candidate goes back on his promise through federal funds saving your stupid ass money by raising it honestly through small donations like many I have sent and you find this offensive. You all are on the stupid Republican kool-aid. Good luck in Alaska at the deposition Sarah. Go kill a moose while you're at it. I forgot the party of the elitist with your bluegrass racist tone can do no wrong. Funny how McOld is now bashing his own president. Too little too late, almost time to say GOOD BYE.
What a crock....how much did Obama pay for his custom designed Greek columns?
I think I"m pretty typical of a large group that has given to Obama- I'm not terrbly rich, but affluent- and virtually live on the computer. I think I'm a little older than this gendre as a whole-nearly 60. I never was much (not at all or kiwanis . rotary etc etc) for the regular social groups. My net worth close to a million dollars.)
Aside from the ocassional box in front of the grocery store where you wouild stuff a few buks for this or that, I never gave much to anthing.
the annoynity and facility of on line donations made me much more generous- starting with the Guatamalian Hurricane- where I donated my first $100 ever (about 12 years ago) since then i freqently give 50 or 100 to a several specific social needs- earthquakes, floods as they impact emotional as human need s- I never give anything to anyone who calls-phone or door. So far in the past 6 months I've given Obama 1100 total in response to various email request according to my feelings as I get the eblurbs
I have probably spent this much at the apple store also, and a fair amonunt to amazon over the past 5 years. I NEVER GO TO THE MALL. So I think you have to also see this as aphonema of people who prefer to live on the computer(when they aRE NOT AT WORK-YUCK,UGG) I exspect in people that are more or less like me, online most of the time, a little more than averagely affluent and mostly 10 to30 years younger-there are lots of mes(sily word)- I was normal but never like social groupings, sent to kids to law school, went to the occasional dead concert,
dylan show- read a lot and listened to lots of music, oh yeah and to the art cinema(now you can to that on line)
djs
just yo let you know America is not a homogenous society, allow that their are lots of relawell to do "weirdos" who you won"t see offen who find it not hard to come up
with 50 to 1500 dollars over several months to give Obama- who is my favorite politician since Jack Kennedy when I was in my teens.
sarah palin is winning? whatever you are smoking or drinking give me some, have you no heard that only 42% of people approve of her vs. Joe biden's 60%?
anyway can religious zealots everywhere answer this for me? what would jesus think of capitalism as it exists in america? (ie children starving, sick people with nowhere to go, wars being waged for no reason (please don't say we were attacked because we weren't by sadam besides does turn the other cheek mean anything to anyone?)
I'm glad they found out where her totally AWESOME wardrobe came from. Anyway, small towns suck for shopping, don't they Sarah? Try looking that good shopping in Wasilla shops. Yeah right. Hahaha! The eyeglasses, hair, makeup .. and especially ... those clothes! I've been wondering for weeks how she could afford them. Now I know. I think it's sweet that the RNC wanted to play with their Barbie.
So no one is bothered that the woman who claims to be just like Joe Sixpack, and seems to despise NYC elitists, goes and spends a ton of money in Elite Ville USA?
I thought Joe Sixpack shopped at Target and Walmart?
NOT at fancy French sounding boutiques in Liberal Town USA.

overdue,
And what might be the promise Obama broke? He checked a box on a questionnaire! Just because he checked that box on that questionnaire doesn't mean that he wouldn't be able to change his mind at a later date. The Republicans are bitching only because of McCain's inability to raise more funds!
They say that they are going to "Auction off" the clothes. That should get the NRP a pretty good Tax Write off! If I was the Government, I would be taking a good hard look into Alaska's finances after Sarah goes back to Alaska after the loss! A Pig is still a Pig, no matter how much lipstick you put on it! Juhn McCain's own words!
Yes, this is focusing on the issues, and of course, way more important than Obama's, J. Wright's, and B. Ayers shared vision of the world.
Let's demand a receipt for every one of Obama and Hillary's suits, while we're at it. Those were probably 'gifts', which I'm sure violates some ethics law governing elected officials.
16 Brings up a good point. And how come nobody is asking the obvious questions about this Palin choice? Nobody, I mean nobody saw this choice coming. Why? Could it be that this woman was never on the radar with anyone but the oil lobby? Yeah, she has executive experience, in Alaska, one of the least populated states in the country. It's not like she's from a major player in anything other than big oil.
If the use of campaign money for Sarah's clothing is found to be illegal, is this because it is part of the "Bi-Partisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 "(also called the McCain and Feingold Act ?) If the use of money for Palin's wardrobe is found to be illegal, why, when McCain obviously reviewed the law and helped change it, would he then allow his campaign to break that law? (If McCain allowed illegal use of funds, it doesn't look like he could plead ignorance of the law that he help initiate.) Any lawyers out there to specify what precise law(s) were broken?
i have so much contempt for the childish ways of the gop & their brainwashed supporters. when they do wrong the first thing they do is fingerpoint to the other guy
These ridiculous people are a bunch of silly jerks with too much time on their hands. Too bad they can't use their time more productively than wallowing in class envy.
To all Obama supporters and your media allies criticizing Sarah Palin in your unceasing sexism and misogyny: How about publishing the bill the DNC paid at its rigged convention to put the exalted, high-minded Obama on a stage with Greek pillars at Invesco Field - ran into millions, didn't it? I'll bet the bills for stagecraft demanded by the Obama campaign since day one are astronomical. By the way, how much did it cost the Dems to send Obama on his journey abroad - let's see that was the first time the anti-war candidate had ever visited Iraq wasn't it and also his first opportunity ever to talk with foreign leaders. Was that trip funded by campaign monies? Oops! I forgot. The media only calls women candidates to account. The Obamas and the Bidens get a free pass, even when the oh, so experienced Biden predicts an international crisis within six months of an Obama Administration - wouldn't you think that statement by Biden would merit a few front-page stories. Nah - that's just our Joe being Joe.
The reason Obama elected to forego public financing is simple; Both candidates would be limited to the same amount of money, which on the surface sounds fair.
However, accepting public financing does not limit what the party can spend. The republican party has far more cash than the DNC, therefore giving them an advantage. Obama tried to engage McCain to limit the TOTAL spending on the campaign and he declined. This was a "gotcha' by the republicans that wound up hurting them due to Obama's ability to raise money. The total amount of money spent by both parties and their respective candidates is about equal.
No campaign reform will work unless it includes the parties too.
What really matter is that Gov. Palin always speaks one thing and says another. To think that a person could spend 150K in two months for clothes is utterly ridiculous. She should have thought about "Joe six pack" and "Joe the plumber". The said part is that everyone is defending this "whatever you call her" and she doesn't even stand for any and I mean any values. What a shame.
How does spending money on clothes equate to "throwing the constitution into the Atlantic/" What Constitutional law did the GOP violate anyway? Are you just throwing around terms because you are obviously biased, or because you happen to have some inside information? This comment is typical of the largly uninformed, and undereducated minds of the liberal base.
Trivial.
Here's an example of "democratic" financial responsibility, tax policy, and dishonesty:
WHO screwed up Social Security??
When Social Security began the "democrats" SAID:
Participation would be VOLUNTARY.
The contributions would be TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
The funds wouldn't be used for anything ELSE, and
interest would ADD to the account.
The payouts would NEVER BE TAXED.
LBJ & demo majorities in the House and Senate put the
funds in the General Fund so they could use it for
their pet projects (PORK), no interest adds to the
fund now!
CARTER & demo majorities in the House and Senate
gave Social Security to immigrants who had never
PAID IN!
CLINTON & demo majorities in the House and Senate
made the CONTRIBUTIONS taxable, AND made the
PAYOUTS taxable! (Al Gore cast the deciding vote on
the payouts!)
OBAMA wants to GIVE Social Security to the 11 million
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that are here, ALONG WITH
Medicare! (Think more or them will come then to get
in on THAT?) AND, with demo majorities in the House
and Senate, he'll SUCCEED!
AND, after all THAT, the "democrats" have the GALL to
blame Republicans for the mess Social Security is in
Trivial.
Obama's REAL children-friendly! He SUPPORTS Partial-Birth Abortion, the most bestial, sadistic "medical procedure" allowed in this country, against the most innocent and helpless victims, voted AGAINST the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, which protects babies who survive abortion attempts and are born alive from being killed or left alone to die (he was the only Illinois Senator to speak against it) and even NARAL wasn't for that, but he ALSO has stated that women should have some period of time after a baby is born to decide if they want it KILLED! What part of THIS GUY IS A MONSTER do you not understand?? Think Jesus would approve of Mr. Obama?
Obama's grass-roots, social-network fund drive, which has come from a record-breaking 3 million separate and mostly SMALL donors, is not in violation of the law.
I'm astounded that Republicans, who have enjoyed huge assymetrical campaign war chests for their presidential candidates in every election since Nixon, should now cry foul.
Rather than whine, perhaps you should get a grip on how far from earth your party has drifted from any coherent conservative philosophy. Edmund Burke would be appalled; and If Teddy Roosevelt were alive, I'm sure he'd have already applied a fond saber-throttling to the plump behinds of Rove and his ilk.
McCain is not at a disadvantage and Obama does not have an advantage because of money or donations. There are a lot of pacs out there. The pacs even donate money to each other! This quibble over who has what and how is just more political squabble. Focus on the issues peeps!
these are valid operational costs for a campaign.
After the election, these clothes might bring as much at auction as photos of celebrity babies as Palin's historic candidacy will be over and she will be the governor of Alaska. Unless of course the unthinkable happens and somebody messes with the voting machines and we get stuck with another loony Republican administration. Then the clothes will be even more historic. I can see them traveling around the country on window display models or getting sold at Sotheby's and they could generate a LOT of money for charity. Meanwhile, isn't it odd that the Republicans are too dumb to pay for them themselves? Just dumb. Awful timing. So on.
This is a rediculous topic, people keep hammering away like this is a personal expense. In the real world this is a business expense. Running on a presidential ticket you got dress the part. As far as people moaning about her kids being expensed for travel, lest we not forget that aside from the paltry 25k$ she spent on her kids travel expenses that is still included in the 90% reduction from the previous governors travel expenses so quit boo hooing already. Come on whining about a few piddly grand when BHO could barely do a job in the Il state house ( asking a yes or no question was too much 140+ times) gas skipped 45% of senate votes and the 50$ million he blew on ed prorgrams that were complete failures during his time on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, some of the proposals he spent millions on had spelling errors in the titles pretty stellar job
Forget Pallin's clothes. Concentrate on the reality of our country being turned into SUSA - the Socialist Republic of America IF Obama is elected.
If the government is going to provide everything from prenatal care to child care to elder care why the hell should anyone make the effort to get a job, work, and get a paycheck. And where will the money for all this come from? Companies will not want to do business here - read fleeing to foreign nations to avoid windfall taxes, estate taxes, death taxes and every other tax imaginable.
And the excuse? The excuse will be that we HAVE TO DO IT for the poor and the children but the government does NOT have enough and so the ONLY choice they are left with is to raise our taxes!!! Yes that means you and me and everyone else irrespective of if we make $100,000 or $10,000.
You may protest saying but I make ONLY $10,000 and the response will be well you make at least that much and you must do your part - we (the government) has "to spread the wealth" so we are going to take from you!
But I have faith in my fellow Americans in that they will choose freedom and democracy over socialism. And yes we are tough Americans. We CAN do anything we want. WE survived 9/11 and will survive the Obama presidency too if should happen but teh recovery will take an entire generation or more.
The phrase in the last paragraph should be "dire financial straits" (not straights)
You lousy Democrats. What do you want the poor lady to do, campaign stark naked?
McCain's chances are quickly ' palin'...
Olga
Austin, Texas
So Palin spent lots of money on clothes. OBAMA IS BLACK! His middle name is HUSSEIN!!! The elitist liberal media doesn't discuss that enough. It should be the #1 issue.
Come on, people, lighten up. It's just one more illustration of how "trickle-down" economics works.
The RNC buys Sarah some new clothes and lots of lipstick, and then they'll donate everything to the Salvation Army, so lots of us little people can be queen for a day in her cast-offs.
Of course, sometimes it's hard to distinguish between "trickle-down" economics and getting pissed on.
But never mind.
You folks have done a stunning job of showing how unwise it would be to elect either of the two leading candidates. Solve the problem and write in DENNIS KUCINICH1
How much did Obama spend on the stadium speech.....anyone know? Americans are hurting you know? I understand the Obama campaign has spent $21,000,000.00 on polling. Doesn't he have the internet? Doesn't he know Americans are hurting? Every time I see Obama he's in a very expensive suit. How dare he. Doesn't he know Americans are hurting?
CC Goldwater, Barry Goldwater's granddaughter came out in favor of Obama/Biden along with all of her siblings and much of her family. Barry was the real McCoy Arizona conservative free thinker, and I believe he'd be proud of her (as well as Chris Buckley). She does not approve of Palin's ridiculous 150,000 dollar buying spree, but more to the point, she does not agree with Palin's nasty lies parroted like the two-bit sports caster that she is. The formerly respectable GOP -- and John McCain -- have been co-opted be the whacko pseudo-moralistic right wing fringe!
So where did Michelle Obama receive her clothing allowance. From her taxpayer funded $300,000 salary?
The media is following Dan Rather's step into partisanship.
I so agree with everyone who has said PLEASE!!!!!! Obama should have donated half his money to charity rather than waste it on infomercials and signs. His campaign is obscene in the amount of money it's burning through. The only winners are himself and the media that sells him the time.
Give me a break, republicans spending $150k on Palin and her families clothes sure sounds like they are in touch with middle america. Just another blatent violation of campaign finance law by the so called finance law champion, and of course they will find the loopholes to make sure it goes by without a hitch. I am sooooo glad all these republicans will be out on their rumps in less than two weeks and we will be taking this country back from the rich and greedy as they are. OBAMA 08!!!! So go cry me a river republicans you are all history. VOTE FOR OBAMA IF YOU LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!!
Since McCain takes public financing, does that mean the tax payers have to pay for half of Palin's wardrobe?
If it wasn't the fact the GOP staged Palin shopping at Walmart and trying to portray her as average Jane, than the expenditure would not seem so hypocritical.
I heard today that it cost more to outfit Palin than it would be to buy Joe the Plummer's house. The conflict of their message v.s. the reality is flashback to Bush telling us one thing about Iraq while the reality was hidden in behind the walls of the white house.
Hey whatever happened to Obama falsifying FEC disclosure about $800K donation to ACORN? Was there a complaint filed and what was the outcome?
Where is your outrage over the FEC inquiry into the 3000-plus contributions to Barack Obama by non-existent persons such as "ACXEFR" living on "SomeStreet" in "Somewhere USA". The justice dept believes, with good cause, that these are illegal "bundled contributions" using brazenly faked names supplied by illegal donors. That is ok, Mr. Horne, just keep complaining about Palin while ignoring the "man behind the curtain". ( By the way, the law DOES permit the RNC to provide clothing expenses. ) Do not worry that Barack Obama is getting foreign campaign contributions bundled under false names in violation of federal law. Do not worry that Obama is funding ACORN and that the next "American" election will be decided by up to ten million mexican and foreign voters.
Do you realize how much clothing $150,000 would buy in a boutique or good department store? Somebody got kickbacks. I'd bet on it. Incidently, why isn't that little girl in school? They keep dressing her up and parading her around from city to city and state to state. There was even a photo of her this week holding a sign that read that she was skipping school for the rally. Is the campaign paying for a tutor?
They, the corporate and political elite, just don't seem to be able to walk the walk. "Listen to me but don't watch me" mentality. How can they ever be trusted again?
I am proud of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics for filing this complaint with the Federal Election Commission regarding the RNC purchases of clothing and personal items for Sarah Palin, her husband, and their family, and probably for Bristols lover too!! Using their supporters hard-worked for and hard-earned money to "beautyify the moose hunter from Alaska" is beyond comprehension and republican donators should be insulted and livid about this!! I am no longer a republican and am I glad I changed parties this year, McCain, the RNC, and Palin are a big embarrasment to the country!! Repubs think they can do anything!!!
One thing that is crystal clear, after reading these comments, is that we, as a nation, need to be spending a lot more on English education - specifically grammar, spelling and syntax.
This is the first time EVER that a party has provided its candidate and her family with supporters' donations and I find it outrageous. If Sarah Palin cannot afford to buy her own clothes to play in the big game, she should not be playing in the big leagues. McCain and Palin talk so much about Obama providing "WELFARE" for the middle class by cutting their taxes, yet that is EXACTLY what the RNC has done, provided that Alaskan moose hunter an her entire family with ultra expensive wardrobes. Didn't Paylin wear nice clothes as governor?? High class Pimps also provide their girls with new wardrobes. The girls pay back later.
It's the hypocrisy and McCain/Palin's tin ear for the cultural mood of the country that makes this wildly extravagant spending spree represents a valid story. McCain is simply lost in the past (a common failing of the eldery). But the real outrage should be expressed not for the money spent on the silk purse, but the grotesquely lacking qualifications of the sow's ear--Palin--the RNC spent it on (bet their donors thought it would go to actual campaigning, silly them). Another questionable move by these folks--let's see, which of the 4 candidates has had ethical actions taken against them by members of their OWN party? Obama or Biden? Nope. McCain? Yup--cardcarrying member of the Keating 5. Sarah "abuse of power" Palin? Yup--having 12 republicans on the panel didn't help her hide her 'it's all about me' attitude. More of the same? No, thanks.
Here's a novel idea for all of you. It's called the Social Responsibility Theory, and it was created after WWII, during the McCarthy era. It pertains to the role of the American Citizen and the media and the parts each is to play. It is the Media's responsibility to provide the American Public with the information they need to know in order to make wiser, more educated decisions within our wonderful Democracy (Although to read the above posts one would conclude we are merely a plutocracy run by the elite merchant class). It is the American Citizen's responsibility to see to it that they educate THEMSELVES further on the issues, before they cast their vote, making their voice heard. A democratic public requires an educated population in order to run effectively at all.
In other words, stop nitpicking and choosing your candidate based on the lapel pins they do or don't wear; ignore the reports of outlandish shopping bills; by all means ignore the discriminating comments about race, religion, age, gender and overall health.
Instead, take the time to research the actual issues and the plans each of these candidates have created and laid out on their campaign websites for the AMERICAN CITIZEN to read and educate themselves before voting.
And on another issue, those of you screaming Socialism is bad, have you taken a look at most European countries? They have newer medical technologies than we do now. And also, I hope you don't care for those nice disability checks if you're injured and can't work, or for the social security checks you might find yourself counting on when you retire. After all SOCIALISM and all similar SOCIAL PROGRAMS are bad right? May all your children feed you to the nursing home industry in return for leaving them stuck in a messed up country with hundreds of thousands of dollars in YOUR bad debts to pay back.
This woman is nothing but trouble -- and totally irresponsible. She and her politics are a farse. If you thought Pres. Bush was a bad example of quality leadership, just wait and see what Palin will prove. The only question I have is how can so many people be so stupid?
So Obama has raised a lot of money...he needs it to fend off the crap that the RNC spews out daily. Why not do a check and tally up the total amount that the two campagins have raised together with the amounts of their national commitees. You will find that the republicans and McCain have far more money on hand than Obama and the Dems.
As one of the middle-class donors who give Obama $30-50 a month out of my paycheck, you loony fringe neoconservative panting freakboy Republicans can all go around posting with your head firmly implanted up the posterior of Limbaugh, but that won't change a thing as your twisted bitter pill is stuck cross-wise in the constricting morass of your ill-used and under-developed mental gymnastics-driven piehole that exemplifies the inwardly inverted and empty cranial expanse as your lame, non-rational, and partison attempts to sound informed, worldly, and enlightened fail dismally.
In other words, simple ones that you can understand. You are IDIOTS and you are LOSING! HA! HA! HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!HA! HA!
McLAME, McINSANE, McSAME, McPAIN is LOSING! Come to grips with his impending defeat and practices saying these two words. PRESIDENT OBAMA
IT'S A SHAME WITH ALL THE PEOPLE IN TROUBLE WITH HOUSING AND ALL THE OTHER ISSUES WE ALL FACE THAT WE TALK ABOUT THIS. I AM A WHITE MALE 67 YEARS OLD AND HAVING BEEN RETIRE 9 YEARS KNOWS WHAT IT.S LIKE TO LOSE MOST OF YOUR 401K IN THIS MESS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE NEVER GIVEN TO A POLICAL PARTY UNTIL THIS YEAR AND WE ARE PROUD OF OUR LESS THAN A $100.00 TO OBAMA THIS YEAR. MY ONLY SAVING GRACE IS 35 YEARS WORKING UNDER A UNION CONTRACT THAT PROVIDED A SMALL PENSION IS HELPING US KEEP OUR HEAD ABOVE WARTER
SBSC you are incorrect. Most of Obama's money was raised from small donors. The last figure I heard put the average donation at $86 per person.
Anyone who has donated to the McCain campaign should be asking for their money back! So much for the claims by McCain and Palin feeling the pain of the average "Joe." Of course, anyone who cannot remember how many homes he has and runs down to the local coffee place (with taxpayer paid security in tow) to get his morning coffee and anyone who has broken the accepted ethics as governor cannot understand what $150,000 can do for the average person -- pay off a mortgage when foreclosure is near, replace the salary of someone who lost a job. But why should the GOP care about the average "Joe" or "Jo?" They have theirs; why should they care about us?
To #165 (RE)
I AGREE!!!!!!!
Give us a break. This is chump change compared to the cost of those Greek Columns and that big stadium to see the Emperor in Waiting make his speech. Or the cost of repainting your plane with your personal lOgo and making sure the American Flag is painted out to accommodate the big O on the tail of the plane. Should we go on?????
The fact that she knew the taxayers were footing the bill, and decided to go to Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus speaks volumes.
The fact that she knew the taxayers were footing the bill, and decided to go to Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus speaks volumes.
Senator Obama has been very reluctant to release detailed information about who his campaign donors are. In these difficult times, I don't think that a candidate can raise hundreds of millions of dollars (after breaking his pledge to accept public financing of his campaign) from widows, orphans and the unemployed. I predict that we will learn in 2009 that fat cats like George Soros and Hollywood celebs gave tons of cash to Obama.
I'm sorry, I guess I ought to say it again: Neither candidate has the right to these kinds of funds because of a law called McCain-Feingold. True, one of the candidates for President put his name to a bill he just willfully broke and maybe that says something about the candidate. Do we want to elect somebody who will actually break the rules that he himself forced into law? Just sayin' ...
Divided we Fall.
The GOP has run it's course as a divisive organization. From Limbaugh to Bush/Rove to McCain/Pailin, they continue to succeed. When we will all take a stand against them. Never, as long as we sucomb to the politics of hate. I am so sick and tired of hate, that I find myself full of it. Stop the madness.
Divided We Fall.
$150,000???
I am a professional female who must dress well everyday, I have spent up to $1000 for a suit and $200 dollars for a good pair of shoes. Make any excuse you like that would work out to about 150 suits. A $2,500 jacket is not professional thats elitist.
I have been a lifelong Republican and sizable donor. I am voting for Obama, our party has lost its way. I don't believe McCain picked Ms Palin, i believe he is ashamed of what has happened to his campaigne. It's a discrace.
s
Hey - when you're trying to sell something - you clean it up - like your car or your house - right? Same thing with Sarah. It's all marketing. $150,000 is nothing - they probably spent a lot more on Hilary over the past 15 years (have you ever seen her before and after photos? Scary.)
Money for BOTH campaigns goes mostly back into the economy for TV ads, campaigning, etc. NEITHER candidate is 'pocketing' money from donations. People should worry about Palin less; defending HER shouldn't be a priority when poor McCain is looking more unhinged every day. I feel sorry for him; he used to be good but he's not mentally sharp anymore. I hope he picks good advisors because otherwise we're in trouble.
HEY - RON H - You should know that obama and the democrats CAUSED THIS FINANCIAL MESS. And then u go donae money so u cna be ASSURED OF MORE OF THE SAME.
You fool.. Useful idiot is what they call folks like you.
Palin can look hot in all those fancy designer duds, but that will never change the fact that the person wearing the garments is completely lacking in good breeding, intelligence, fair play, wisdom, honor, integrity or any measure of honestly caring about the wellbeing of most of the citizens of this country. She's out for herself, first, last and always. She denies her abuse of power - the court states otherwise. Her public demeanor demonstrates a constant string of misleading, mean-spirited lies and attacks, which are based on her ill-conceived efforts to satisfy her own self-serving, corrupt agendas. Fake smile, wink wink. Oh please.
It's amazing that the pot is calling the kettle black. The Slave owner Democrats are such lowlife haters of America that they have to commit voter fruad to try and win an election, and they're worried that the Clueless Republicans having clothes like theirs to wear? These haters of Democracy can't stand for other people to be like them or better than they could ever become. All of you act like selfish socialist kids who think that you're going to be elected prince in the kingdom. If any of you idots ever went and lived in a socialist country, you'd pay your last cent or even try and sneak back into this country, because you're a bunch of spinless wimps.
AND, after all THAT, the "democrats" have the GALL to
blame Republicans for the mess Social Security is in!
Let's back-off, folks; the RNC says "... the clothing will be donated to charity after the election!" Here we finally have an opportunity to witness Republican Trickle-Down Economics at work!!! -- Just be willing to disregard the fact that this $150,000.00 wardrobe will probably fetch no more than $50~$75 off a Goodwill rack. After all, how many working moms can afford the considerable time to remove all those sequins & rhinestones, so that they could actually wear one of those outfits when shopping at Walmart ? (Color ME Disgusted!")
Due to his prodigious fund-raising, Bush declined federal matching funds ... He eventually raised a record-setting $193 million by the end of the campaign. He holds the record for trips around the US with the objective of fundraising from big donors. Obama did not sign any agreement to accept public financing. He sent an email to the democratic committee expressing that he would accept public funding if the republican nominee sat down to discuss doing the same. Reps. from both campaigns talked but nothing was ever settled. McCain is a liar.
John and Cindy McCain are rich celebrities on their own right: seven houses, eight cars, private plane, servants galore, etc., so is only fair they corrupt Mrs. Palin and her family to make them look like rich folks too. These Republican are a bunch of liars; therefore, wait to hear they were trying to help the economy by shopping at the stores owned by their friends.
WOW!!! Well, it looks like the Repub's here are really nervous about 'That One' winning (which is academic at this point) the presidential election. Well, that's ok. After all, how were the repub's to know that this ol' guy didn't have what it takes to win. It's a shame he didn't pick up on the 'economy issue' soon enough. Try as he may, the reality is he is a "PLUMBER".
Listen, it's not too late, if you want to hop on the winning ticket and brag about supporting Obama to your neignbors after election day. We still have a 'few good votes' left for you.
I am not a Palin supporter but don’t have an issue with the RNC buying her clothes to wear during the campaign. They want to win and she needs to dress for success while in the public eye. However I do draw the line at the RNC buying her family member’s clothes. That’s just plan wrong and not why people donate campaign contributions. Palin’s new wardrobe may be given away or sold for charity now that the issue has come to light but you know her family will keep whatever they got.
"She's exactly like us!" Don'tcha know? Yessiree, you betcha... EXACTLY LIKE US!
And why wouldn't she be? Every Joe Sixpack and hockey mom in America spends roughly a sixth of a million dollars or so on clothes every couple of weeks, don't they?
She's just like us alright, IF you're married to Joe C.E.O. rather than Joe Sixpack. (Unless she was referring to a sixpack of Dom Perignon instead of Bud Lite all along.) Wake up and smell the coffee, people. That is if you can still afford to buy coffee and haven't had to switch to tea like we have at our house!
I am sick and damn tired of the so called political leaders in this country....taking full advantage of OUR tax dollars! They all make a decent wage in office. They can afford to run out and pay 20 bucks for a haircut or buy an outfit...here and there. Oh but no....they have to get 400 haircuts and go to the finest restaurants for a "conference meeting" and pull out our Blood sweat tears american greenback to pay for the elaborate lunches!!!!!!!!!! Our economy is on egg shells....why isn't there a thorough investigation of the "behind" the scenes spending?????? This goes for both political parties. Any extra dollars these nominees make on campaign should go back to the American people.
I agree with post # 165. Even the well-reasoned arguments on these sites are ruined by poor spelling and grammar. Perhaps “No Child Left Behind” was too many years too late!
do any of you see the hate here? why? is this how you teach your kids to act.? why don't we try to stop arguing and go volunteer to make this country better.
It's amazing.....Really, McCain/Palin are running around the country screaming "SOCIALISM" when McCain is at the trough taking all that money from government campaign financing. It's welfare when Palin and her family get $150k in clothing from the RNC. Did those yokels not have any clothes in Alaska? I know she went back home soon after the convention. Why didn't she pack a suitcase with clothes off the Cato's sales rack, Ross Dress for less and Walmart like the rest of us normal Jo(e)'s. You can talk about Obama's fundraising all you want, at least he's raising his money from honest working Americans who donate small amounts to his campaign. Get a life you double standard Reps!
Isn't it surprising that Obama, Biden, the DNC, their media storm troopers, Hollywood and music celebrity minions, and "democrats" in general explode in displays of visceral hatred against Sarah Palin "racist, KKK, nazi", Palin's family, and to a lesser extent, McCain, and anyone else who dares oppose them, but they can't find any fault with "Rev." (God Damn America/America invented the Aids virus to kill Black people) Wright and his "church", which Obama and his family attended for the past 20 years with no complaint about the racism or anti-American diatribes Wright was spewing (even though Wright and that "church" were receiving $15 million in taxpayer dollars over the last 15 years)! Wright WAS also Obama's campaign's "Spiritual Advisor" til Wright's enormous ego made him spill the beans! They likewise find no fault with Ayers & Dohrne, who founded the Weather Underground, that bombed the Capital, the Pentagon, police stations, and killed several people. Obama served on boards, committees, "civic projects", etc. with Ayers, his wife worked with him, they socialized with Ayers & Dohrne, have friends in common with them (i.d. Rashid Khalidi, who has ties to the PLO), and Obama's Illinois Senate run was announced from Ayers living room (Obama says Ayers "lived in his neighborhood!) In 2004 or 2005, Ayers said he only wished they had done MORE bombing, he's been photographed trampling the American Flag underfoot and grinning, but Obama says he "thought Ayers had been rehabilitated"! NOT rehabilitated, NOT repentent, avowed Marxist, vehemently says so in public, but Obama "didn't know about any of that"! He knows about it NOW, have you ever heard Obama denounce Ayers and Dohrne? Wright? No, just "some of their past activities". How about Rezko, Obama's convicted criminal buddy, who gave him $1.6 million and a corrupt real-estate deal? How about Mazen Asbahi, Obama's "Islamic Advisor", who had to quit when his Hamas connections were discovered? What about the fact that Obama SUPPORTS Partial-Birth Abortion, the most bestial, sadistic "medical procedure" allowed in this country, against the most innocent and helpless victims, voted AGAINST the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, which protects babies who survive abortion attempts and are born alive from being killed or left alone to die (he was the only Illinois Senator to speak against it) and even NARAL wasn't for that, but he ALSO has stated that women should have some period of time after a baby is born to decide if they want it KILLED! What part of THIS GUY IS A MONSTER do you not understand?? Think Jesus would approve of Mr. Obama?
Never hear a word of criticism from anyone on the Obama side, do we? They don't CARE what Obama, his wife, or any of their associates have ever said or done! They have NO problem with racism, anti-Americanism, criminal connections, corruption, or abortion extremism, so long as those involved support Obama. No better definition of hypocrisy or "low-life" will ever be found.
McCain forced himself into public finanacing when he took out a loan during the primary season securing it with his promise to accept public finanace as security.
Something had to be done to make Palin look good. They chose to focus on her exterior as a distraction for the lack of substance she had on her interior.
Sarah Palin spent 150 thousand dollars at SACK's 5TH AVENUE in New York??!
Talk about an elitist! What's the matter with Walmart, Sarah?
And then she spent another $22 thousand dollars on makeup and hairdoos!
These Republicans are so out of touch with everyday Americans it's not even funny any more.
I don't think this subject has anything to do with what party we are supporters of. We are all AMERICANS, and the bottom line is,,,,,,,,,,,,, Spending that kind of money on clothing for one person is ludicrous. A good majority of American families are losing their homes , jobs, health insurance ( if they even had any ) and would be grateful if they have any money left over to buy garage sale clothes.
This really is a slap in the face for us average hardworking americans. Personally I find this whole election a complete disgrace. They act like spoiled children bickering back and forth, as they throw stones at eachother
I can't believe that McCain would pick a VP that required that both herself and her family should be re-outfitted by the RNC.
Truly professional people pick out and buy their own clothes unless they are rich enough to have others do it for them. This sounds more like a reality TV show where the winners are the Beverly Hillbillies, and they have no idea what hit them and how to react to being in the limelight.
Sarah Palin's wardrobe has nothing to do with "slapping average, hard working American's in the face." It has nothing to do with Obama's friendships. It certainly has nothing to do with "our tax dollars." It is a simple cost benefit analysis on the part of the RNC.
RNC supporters give money to the party for use in it's advancement(DNC supporters do the same). The RNC obviously thinks that a seat in the White House is worth $150,000 dollars. If the DNC really believes that the spending was a waste, and that a better wardrobe will not help Palin as a candidate, then they should be satisfied with being $150,000 up in spending efficiency. Otherwise, the RNC cannot be blamed for spending money in the best way it sees fit.
One more thing...
If spending that much money on one person's wardrobe is ridiculous, no matter who they are, then the Hollywood stars we ooh and aah over are slapping us in the face everyday. I think the real problem here, Shelia, is that *you* are out of touch with the culture of rich, public figures, and what each of them spends on clothes.
These people are always in the public eye. Their effectiveness depends entirely on whether we approve of the way they look. The American people are out of touch with themselves.
Does this mean that Sarah Palin is a Neiman Marxist?
I am sure that the Moosewoman of the Apocalypse could buy her own clothes on the $123,000. she makes as Govenor. If you have ever shopped at Neiman Marcus or Saks, then you know that the clothes they have are high end designer clothes, many of which are duplicated in the cheaper end department stores.
Barack Obama has bought his suits from JC Penney, and Michelle Obama wears clothes from BananaRepublic, J Crew, and Black and White. She and he look great in them. There is also a highly publicized photo of Obama sitting in a chair with his feet up, and he has holes in the bottom of his shoes. Michelle Obama says she "just can't get him out of them because they are comfortable."
