Gun control group backs Obama

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 13, 2008 11:19 AM

John McCain has backing from the National Rifle Association. Today, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence threw its support to Barack Obvama.

"Senators Barack Obama and Joseph Biden know that we make it too easy for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons in this country," Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign, said in a statement. "They know that our weak gun laws have too many loopholes, which lead to over 30,000 deaths and 70,000 injuries from guns every year.

"Senators Obama and Biden know that we can reduce those deaths and injuries from guns by strengthening our Brady background check system, getting military-style assault weapons off our streets, and giving law enforcement more tools to stop the trafficking of illegal guns."

NO matter how many laws we put on banning guns, all criminals will find someway to get a gun illegally and to use it to do something illegal.

Good. Now Obama has to admit he supports gun bans.
If the Brady Campaign supports him, I can't vote for him.

Don't be a maroon DM. Brady supports gun bans like NRA wants babies to have machine guns.... Besides, the Supreme Court just said big gubmint can't take your guns away. The question is not who loves guns, but who wants you to keep your job....

super8,
Brady supported the D.C. gun ban and even financed its defense. Brady supports the Chicago gun ban. How about Brady supporting another Assault Weapons Ban?

Now, how about addressing the babies with machine guns?

Brady and VPC are going to move for semi-automatic firearms ban by doing what DC did: redefine them as "machineguns". It will be a tough sell but they might be able to force it through. Owners will have to decide to comply with the law or not (report them lost, destroyed or stolen, etc) and wait for a new administration. Such actions would most likely swell the ranks of the NRA and sink an Obama second term.
