Higher ratings for second debate
About 63 million people watched Tuesday night's presidential debate, nearly 11 million more than the audience for the first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, Nielsen Media Research reported this evening.
That makes it the 10th-most watched presidential debate in history, and the most-watched since 1992, Nielsen said.
The audience, however, did not reach that for the vice presidential debate last week, which ended up tying for the second largest debate audience ever with nearly 70 million viewers.
"Clearly this second debate benefited from being on a Tuesday instead of a Friday," Nielsen said. "Other possible factors could be a spillover effect from the V.P. debate or growing interest in public affairs because of the deepening financial crisis."
PBS, which issues its audience counts separately, said an estimated 2.8 million watched its coverage of Tuesday night's debate, compared to 2.6 million for the first presidential debate and 3.5 million for the vice presidential face-off.

Clearly more people watched he debate because there were no baseball playoffs. Oh, and BTW, "That One" clearly was the victor last night.
Barak swept the floor w/ Mc Cain, who was smarmy, repetive, and sickening in his repition of., "My friends". Barak was clear, never faltering, and according to NPR this morning, more of his 'facts' were true than Mc Cain's. All this in spite of being in potentially hostile to Obama turf, Nashville.
The main issue for our country is not how we got in this mess (although I hope later on we learn not to inject social engineering into the free market system), but where do we go from here. Obama wants to tax small businesses and corporations to pay for his tax cuts to the middle class, (many of which are small business owners), that will cause many businesses to shut down and those that have enough capital will leave out country to set up in foreign countries with less of a tax burden. More people will lose jobs and this recession will be drawn out for a decade and possibly become a depression. This is what John McCain should have focused on! I am afraid too many voters will be voting on charisma rather than substance, also many will vote for who they beleive will cut their taxes but I would rather have a job in which to support my family than be unemployed and receive a tax cut.
JobsStayHere
JobsStayHere, can you list the small businesses in your area (and by small businesses I mean 1-50 employees), that actually haul in $250,000 or more per year that is taxable? If so, I'd like to apply for a job at any one of them.
Barack Hussein still can't draw as many viewers as Sarah Palin. Not even close.
As soon as Sarah gets that albatross (McCain) off from around her neck, she'll
easily win the Presidential elections in 2012 and 2016. Sarah is only 44 and consequently will be a powerhouse in American politics for the next 25 years.
By the way, there's a reason she's the Governor with the highest approval rating (70%) in the United States.
Don't you love how Republicans can't even say Obama's name without somehow making some terrorist connection? Grow up.
As for people flocking to see Palin, people also can't turn away from a horrific car accident, or the bearded lady at the circus. Get my point?
"That one" may be a clear and eloquent speaker but that same one is also has a spiritual mentor and father figure who is a unpatriotic white hater and a wife who hasn't been proud of her country until recently. With these associations, I do not know how anyone could possibly choose Barak Hussein Obama for president of this country. People really need to start thinking and remembering the facts, not just what the biased media says
Hey Sam, you obviously aren't a small business owner, or at least not one that will be in business very long. My husband and I have a construction company and employee 5 people. We take in over $250k per year - which is needed to go onto the next year and grow the business... FYI - that is how it is supposed to work... I also know at least 5 other small business in my surrounding area, each with no more than 10 employees making over this amount as well. How can Obama expect a small company to grow if he's planning on taking more money out of the pot? That means less money for the next year, and possibly fewer employees... Wake up!

"but that same one is also has a spiritual mentor and father figure who is a unpatriotic white hater and a wife who hasn't been proud of her country until recently"
How can you live with yourself?
Anyone else notice a connection to some phases in 20th century history here?
#1 Great Depression: #2 Economic crash in Germany with enormous inflation, food costs off the meter and so on: #3 Germans so desperate to get their economy back to normal that they elect fascist-extremist-hate mongering Adolf Hitler to take care of things for them.
You know how that story ended up.
The pattern is repeating itself right here in the USA with people rallying to support extremist, hate-mongers Sarah Palin and John McCain. They haven't got a leg to stand on which is why they don't bother to offer any kind of solutions. What ever it is they want to do after they get into office they do not want anyone to know about because it will all be so bad it will make the worst things we've ever seen happen in our country so far look like a party. And they are two of the slimiest lying creeps I've ever seen in American politics in my lifetime.
Jamie, of course your construction company makes a profit of $250,000 per year. How many deductions do you have, how much do you pay in healthcare benefits for your employees, and what is the actual income you are taxed on?
Explain this, Jamie, if you truly are a "small business" what are the rules and regs, set up by the SBA, regarding income?
And, Jamie, no, I am not a small business owner. Just a regular Joe-Six-Pack trying to get by each day on my new found job, making $12/hour.
Hey, JobsStayHere: If McPain is so interested in jobs for America, why does he propose tax cuts for businesses that outsource their jobs to foreign countries. Bama wants to give tax incentives to bizes that keep the jobs here. While I am all for free enterprise, I cannot trust these big corps that take windfall profits and huge severance packages and screw their stockholders. If you think Republican politics gives a damn for small biz, think again!
Jamie, just one more question about your over a quarter million dollar profits. When you bill for labor, etc., at a construction job, don't you add the sales tax into the the bill? Isn't that what businesses do? Your customers pay the tax, not you.
Sam, it sucks to be you! Maybe you can get off the booze and attract better employers.

In defense of #7 regarding your comment, " How can you live with yourself?"
I have seen the airing of Mrs. Obama's comment about her "being proud of her country for the first time" dozens of times on different networks and it really has
been that long ago. The same goes for the rest of #7's comments. I wish more
American people would do their homework. This is an important election!
I think Obama will bring a fresh perspective. He knows what he's talking about and he has plans to bring to the forefront, in connection with the economic crisis we are suffering. I think that he and Biden will do a greater job in trying to save what is left of our economy. For the most part, I do not support McCain choosing someone so inexperienced in federal, national and foreign affairs like Sara Palin. I am afraid of what will happen, when God forbid that John McCain dies, we get her as President. I do understand that many people look up to her and see her as a "women in power" so to speak, but then again, how can we trust someone that doesn't know how to answer our questions and give us some sort of support or inclination that there is a plan in the making? Someone needs to shed some light on this. I can tell that she has her “experience” in Alaska, but how does that affect the rest of the country? How can you compare Palin and McCain to Biden and Obama? The experience and plans set forth to try to pull us out of the hole that we keep digging deeper are there. I think Obama has a mind set that will empower this country and take it out of this so called “depression” that everyone keeps saying. I hope we don’t come to that. I believe that Obama and Biden can repair the damage that in just 8 years the “Bush” administration destroyed, after the Clinton administration had put us in a surplus. Can anyone see that? Another Republican that supports Bush is not on my list. Sorry but I put all my effort in Obama and his campaign and I KNOW they will bring this country back to what it was before Bush came into office.

"According to NPR more of Obama's facts were true". Well now there is an unbiased opinion. Do you think NPR is non partisan? You liberals are just blinded by the smokescreen the liberal media has put up. Even the Globe compared some of the statements made and it seems Obama did a lot more lying about the facts. I do agree with the over use of "my friends" by McCain, even I was sick of it., but Obama wouldn't answer a lot of the questions and just continued on with the same old "I know how you're feeling" routine. I know how I'm feeling, but he needs to be a little more specific. Did you know the foreign markets tanked over night because they believe Obama is going to win and he will cause the market to sink even deeper because of his liberal tax policies. I guess that is change, if that's all your looking for.
NOBAMA
People seem to overlook the obvious when it comes to Obama. They don't want to believe the things you said are true. They talk about tolerance but are supporting a candidate that has never practiced it. He talks about bringing people together , hope and change, but his history suggests something different.

Don't be mad he bust your bubble. Sam is right! He's open minded in this, unlike some of you who basically closed minded and dont really read into the facts!! Obama got the right solid ideas, AND THATS THE FUN
Cookie, I beg to differ, and I feel sorry for those who have to rely on racial, terrorist remarks to "win" an election. What's it going to get you, 4 more years of "prosperity?" Can you honestly say you're really proud of America now, with the selling of the middle class and, all of us, as of this morning, being part owners in banks? I thought conservatives didn't like socialism. Do your homework, #16!
