McCain lumps Obama in with Washington crowd
In his first TV ad after the third and final presidential debate, John McCain speaks directly to the camera -- and to American voters -- and promises change and common-sense solutions.
The 60-second spot is somewhat unusual for McCain, and is more like several ads that Democrat Barack Obama has done. To air nationally, the ad makes no reference to political party, but rather assails Obama as part of the Democratic establishment in Washington .
"The last eight years haven't worked very well, have they? I'll make the next four better," McCain says. "Your savings, your job and your financial security are under siege.
"Washington is making it worse -- bankrupting us with their spending. Telling us paying higher taxes is 'patriotic?' McCain says, referring to a comment made by Obama's running mate Joe Biden about higher-income taxpayers.
"And saying we need to 'spread the wealth around?' McCain continues, citing Obama's conversation with the now-famous Joe the plumber in Ohio. "They refuse common sense solutions for energy independence. So every day we send billions to the Middle East.
"We need a new direction and I have a plan. Your savings. We'll rebuild them. Your investments. They'll grow again. Energy. We'll drill here and we'll create a renewable energy economy. Lower taxes and less spending will protect your job and create new ones. That'll restore our country.
"Stand up with me, let's fight for America," McCain concludes.

News from the Washington Bureau

The McCain campaign is one contradiction after another. McCain talks about his nearly 30 years of experience as a US Senator but he's an outsider. He says he knows how to get things done becuase he knows everyone in Washington but he's not part of the "old boy network". He says that he's a Maverick but sided with Bush 90% of the time. He says that Palin is a reformer but she was found to have abused her power. He says that Palin cut taxes as Mayor, but she actually raised taxes and left the state a deficit. He acts like he's one with the common man but owns 13 homes and has over a $100 million dollars. He's been saying that no one knows who Obama is and that Obama lacks experience but now he says that Obama is part of the Washington Establishment.
Actions of a desperate man.
I live in S. Florida, and the people I run into are terrified of Sen. Obama , his past alliances and his projected policies which are obivously Socialist. I believe Sen. McCain will carry Florida, and should win Nationally because Sen. Obama is just too much of a risk in such a time as this.
Redistribution of wealth platform by McCain is the same policy middle class had to endure for 8 years -- do we want to continue the redistribution of wealth to CEOs, oil companies, the wealthy under McCain? Under Bush we had redistribution of wealth from the top down -- it didn’t work then and it won’t work for McCain. We have the current economic crisis as proof that eight more years of McCain’s Top Down Redistribution of wealth policy doesn't work. If that is the type of administration you want (which I'm sure those making over 250,000 do), than vote McCain.
Yup....what he said. Thanks for noticing.
McCain's body language last night made him look like a whiny spolied brat. When he spoke he mostly came out with flowery generalities and nothing specific about what he'll really do if elected. His plans are pretty ludicrous. If this is how he'll handle things we're in worse trouble than we could ever imagine. And if Sarah Palin has to take over, then we'll need a special investigative task force commissioned just to keep an eye on her husband.
The last 8 years have been bad McCain, you're right! Who the hell was running things? Oh, you guys were, well I'm sure the party that has been in power that entire time would definitely change things. Because that's how politics works, if a party screws up the entire government, just give 'em a few more years, they'll fix it if we ask real nice...right?
I have never considered myself a liberal, but there is no way I could possibly vote for McCain/Palin as their supporters just seem, well daft. They seem to be driven by mindlessness. For all the relegious right that are vervantly supporting Palin, it seems they forgot God gave them a brain and he intended it be used. I cannot fathom how anyone cannot see how McCain was such a big part of this mess. These NeoCons have taken the Republican party into the gutter with them. Sad really.
I second all the things you have said Jeff. Very well put. I can't agree with you more.
Senator McCain is verging on lunacy. Everytime he speaks he appears less stable. What a sad end for a once-honorable man.
Obama is one lie after another, Obama is not even the in the White House yet and he is already lying, he LIED about his association, his record and he seems to be good at talking behind peoples back. He said he represents change but he is your typical politician LYING TO GET ELECTED. He is a lying flip-flopper.
McCain's campaign is floundering. He is hopping from issue to issue trying to find traction. He is not impressing the undecided with his populist offers that fail to address the key economic issues faced by the nation. His assertion that Obama will raise taxes has been disassembled by Obama. More and more of the middle class are seeing that they will be better off under Obama's tax proposals. Unless McCain abandons the tax cuts for the super rich and the givaways to big business and the forever war in Iraq he will continue to be seen as simply continuing Bush's failed policies. No amount of pointing at Ayres will divert attention from this. Obama is looking and acting more presidential every time we see him and the debates have simply reinforced this.
I think we can all agree, finally, that Mr. McCain has indeed taken a turn for the worst. I don't think there is any way to redeem himself at this point. His own base doesn't even seem to understand his strategy nor where he truly stands on the issues. But then again, I don't think they really even care.
Jeff_S' middle name must be exagerator. Get your facts straight before you start spouting out these ridiculous allegations.
Jeff, while I agree with everything you said, you're mistaken about Palin. She did leave a budget deficit in Wasilla, not Alaska. Yet, you miss that as Gov. of Alaska, the state took the largest per capita federal transfers than any other state (in 2006, second largest in 2007 after Virginia), while they had over 30 billion in oil revenues in their coffers, Alaskans pay no state sales, property or income taxes. The Alaskans took away our tax dollars when they didn't need them. That's a real shame and abuse.
Well said Jeff ! Right On !! McCain ain't no Maverick as Biden drilled it into everyones head during the VP Debates
MCCAIN INSULTED ALL PRO-CHOICE WOMEN AS FANATICS IF THEY BELIEVE "THE HEALTH OF THE MOTHER" SHOULD EVER BE A CONSIDERATION IN A PERSONAL DECISION!!! .....MCCAIN INSULTED ALL REPUBLICANS WHO EVER SUPPORTED BUSH BY SAYING "I'M NO GEORGE BUSH AND WE HAD 8 YEARS OF HIS FAILED POLICIES." ....MCCAIN INSULTED ALL MIDDLE CLASS VOTERS BY IGNORING THEM!!.....THANK GOODNESS OBAMA WAS RIGHT ON ALL THE ISSUES THAT MATTER ON THE ECONOMY, HEALTHCARE, ENERGY POLICY, EDUCATION, AND LEADING AMERICA, WHILE ALL MCCAIN COULD DO WAS BE AN ANGRY GRUMPY OL' MAN WHO INSULTED EVERYONE HE COULD THINK OF AS HE STUMBLED FOR ANSWERS EVEN ON SIMPLE QUESTIONS. === OBAMA AND BIDEN IN '08!!
benighse
I heard McCain talking in Fl. and he thanked the town he was in for 'taking care of his wife and kids' while he was a POW in Vietnam. Less we forget, he dumped his wife while he was 'seeing' Ms Cindy.... he married millions.... and left his family. I believe if he is elected the middle class will be in much worse shape than they are in now. John is out for John - He doesn't know what it is like to make a decision, do I pay heating bill or the rent? And Plain? she is being investigated, found in the wrong by mostly Republicans and she still denies she did anything wrong. PLEEEEZEEEE
Mr. McCain constantly being negative about Mr. Obama shows that Mr. McCain lacks leadership qualities and lacks focus on real issues that are relevant to America, for example, economy, health care etc. I don't understand Mr. McCain and I really don't know anymore who this person is. Mr. McCain has been a great public servant to America, but he does NOT have the qualities and the skills to be the next leader of United States. Mr. Obama is clearly the person that should be our next President of U.S.A. He will bring new ideas and change that is desperately is needed in Washington & around the country. Mr. Obama's is able to connect with American people and he is much clear about his vision & who he is.
is, and what he stands for.
he is
Our 2 party system stinks. Regardless of which candidate or president acts on an issue the respective parties agree and then blame the "other" party. Sad that a country with so much potential has left us with the choice we have today. Win at all costs seems to be Washington's way and then blame everyone else when their actions leave us in a financial crisis. Independant voter who will not register to vote this year, lets see about 2012.
Um, isn't McCain insulting himself? He's BEEN in Washington for what, 20+ years? The guy is losing it.....really.
Should McCain/Palin hold Florida as mentioned by djn, then it will be because they are not listening to the True message he is giving and are only worried about loosing their me only attitude when it comes to finances and Party first. I can't wait for this political year to end so we can all get back to business and concentrate on fixing this country AGAIN.
We had enough to time to see how a self-proclaimed "maverick" works... he makes seemingly random decisions on hunches. He has surrounded himself with people that we dont want anywhere near the whitehouse. America is in a "mental recession and a nation of whiners?? who was that guy that McCain chose?? And Palin... is McCain going to choose his cabinet the same way?
He believes that he is a born leader and that his hunches trump all other objective analysis. He lives in the dream of 80s and 90s America. Those days are gone and we cant be parading around like that. If we do, then America will drown.
Reading all of these commments really gives me great hope for the future. I consider myself independent, but am now leaning strongly Obama. His policies will make my life, along with my family and friends better. The future for my children will be brighter. I'm glad other people are feeeling the same way.
McCains healthcare policy should worry people. He said the average healthcare plan is $5800. Take a look at average health care of people in there 30's, 40's, 50' 60's etc. The $5000 credit in not going to cover squat, the older you are.
It may be to late for Obama's scalpel. The end of the former Soviet Union required an axe, which allowed the new Rusian Federation to enjoy a free market economy (Russian style) with a flat tax of 13 percent, which is well within the confines of the Laffer curve that Reagan advised for the US.
Besides, I am not in favor of turning brain surgery over to the newest surgeon practicing at the Ayers, Rezko, Wright and Obama Spay and Neuter clinic.
For someone that prides himself as experienced because he's been in Washington for 25+ years, that's pretty funny! This person with his 13 houses, 11 cars, and his wife's use of helicopters to get around don't prove that he's anything else but the same as what we have. He's been tied to big oil, and the communication giants. He's no solution to people today!
Get ready for RePO madness in Washington!!
REid
Pelosi
Obama
Run for the hills!!!!!!!!! Hide your wallets!!!!!!!!! Where da white women at????
McCain is not going to win this election. Watching the debate last night, I saw McCain taking deep breaths, smirking, being condescending, and a smart@ss. He was argumentative and, I felt, quite uncomfortable. He kept squirming in his chair and appeared downright dumbfounded at some of Senator Obama's responses. McCain has difficulty reining in his emotions and his anger often surfaces. John McCain is an old washed-out politician who really is far removed from today's younger generations and from the middleclass and the underprivileged. I am especially appalled at Mitt Romney who vigoriously supports McCain as the "best" candidate. People like Mitt Romney put their party above our country and what is best for it. That these people think Sarah Palin is ready to lead is outrageous. She is a total incompetent whose only "talent" is stirring up the crowds into a mob yelling out such things as, "terrorist", "kill him", and "off with his head" and smiles broadly while these horrific calls are being yelled. Shame on Sarah Palin, and shame on John McCain for inciting, encouraging, and promoting such behavior with their own hateful and false rhetoric!!
I listened to McCain this morning. He talked about his 90+ year old mother who travelled to France; while there she tried to rent a car and was told she was too old and was denied a rental car. John went on to say, so what did she do? She BOUGHT A NEW CAR!! John McCain was VERY PROUD of his mommy!!! How many middle-class Americans can afford to go to France and then spend thousands more on a new car? Last night in the debate, McCain spoke directly to John the Plumber, saying, Congratulations, you are RICH now!! (TWICE) Out-of-touch McCain!!! He is for the rich; he is NOT for the middle class!!

Constitution needs to be changed. People after 60 can only become advisers to the President but cannot run for the top job.
Senility has overtaken McCain..he cannot think properly. He is a senior citizen..an old man..let us respect him. Just retire him on Nov 4th.....and coming to the beauty model Sarah Palin...she is a small town hockey mom...good for Alaska politics...and playing with Russian bears. She needs early retirement so that she may not misuse public office for private reasons.
I saw this headline and just went "Wha.....?".
Talk about flailing...
I'm terrified of Obama's legions of brown-shirts, and worry that anyone not on board with Obama's Neo-Socialist Revolution will branded a traitor, or worse.
McCain said in 2000, " I endorse Governor Bush, I endorse Governor Bush, I endorse Governor Bush, I endorse Governor Bush, I endorse Governor Bush" . Look it up on fact check if you don't believe it. It was also in a documentary. Lipstick on a pig!
I have said it all along McCain ain't no Maverick... its all started when he picked the wrong candidate for VP.. Sarah pallin though she Hooootttt...am sure most people at the GOP rally really came out to check her out.... but seriously he had better chance to pick someone waayyy better....and he claims he has 30 years of experience as a US Senator...but chose to vote 90% of the time for Bush for 8 yrs......uuummmm ...and out of desperation.. claims obama has ties wef Ayers which later proves they only had coffee together and they both work with the same company but where never close....and this morning he talk bout his 90+ mother ...seriously he's that what he should be talkin bout...how bout the middle class.. duuhhhhhh..
McCain does not put "country first" but McCain first. This is someone who didn't return to the US from Vietnam the first time allowed not because he did not want to leave his friends behind, but because it would look bad for him, ending his career and the reputation of his family in the military. This is someone who chooses a running mate who is unable to even speak for herself and whose personal interests show a lack of ethics and morals. And he chose her, not because she is good for America, but to put him in competition for what democrats lost - a woman, and to compete with the idea of Obama's character of change. The list goes on of how McCain puts him first, not the country. We need a president who can make intelligent decisions for the present and the future, and more than debates, the past with all the records is what we truly have to base our decisions upon. McCain may not be Bush but his 90% support to his administration shows that he is very close to him. Obama himself has said that one of the reasons he chose to run this early for presidency is because the country can’t wait. I will vote for Obama, because of the issues he stands for in regards to health care, economy, environment and foreign polity. As far as his experience, I truly believe that character and your choice of people to work with is more important than experience. Obama shows strength, intelligence, decency, and reasoning for change.intelligent decisions for the present and the future, and more than debates, the past with all the records is what we truly have to base our decisions upon. McCain has been around 26+ long years, and he's an "outsider?" That's rich. McCain must really think we're all stupid. We aren't. We're on to him. And we don't like him one bit.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!
I just have two words to say:
Keating Five
'Nuff said...
