McCain spot says Biden lied in debate

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 3, 2008 02:11 PM

In its first video response to the vice presidential debate, John McCain's campaign has a web video up that accuses Democrat Joe Biden of "lies and sighs."

"Does Joe Biden think we're not paying attention to his words?" the announcer asks.

The spot then focuses on Biden claiming during the debate that he has a 25-year record of supporting clean coal technology, juxtaposing the claim with video of him recently telling an Ohio voter he is "not supporting clean coal."

It also shows Biden saying that running mate Barack Obama did not say he would "sit down" with Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, then follows that with Obama saying in a debate last year that he would meet without preconditions with the leaders of nations such as Iran. He has since softened that stand, saying in May that he would meet with Iran's leaders after enough preparatory work, but not necessarily with Ahmadinejad.

The video then shows Biden audibly sighing when Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said during the debate that she's glad that they agree on their strong support for Israel.

"Ready to exaggerate, not ready to lead," the announcer concludes.

UPDATE: Obama-Biden spokesman Hari Sevugan responded, "Only the McCain-Palin campaign would lie while accusing their opponent of lies. From Gov. Palin’s debate performance last night to their false web ad today, the McCain-Palin campaign has proven they offer nothing for working Americans but more of the same failed policies and discredited attacks.”

I think he thought he could deceive voters who are just now tuning in to the presidential race. Although, those of us who have been paying attention since day 1, or since the primaries, know better than to believe A LOT of things Joe Biden said last night.

It is true that Obama would meet with the LEADER of Iran, who is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and that Biden does not support clean coal, unless he has flip-flopped on the issue already.

The complaint represents typical technological and scientific illiteracy by neo-con evangelical types. The meaning of "clean coal technology" is not at the time of this debate what it was when Biden spoke with the Ohio voter, as the previous schemes were unworkable, pie-in-the sky approaches based on speculative technology, and now, with the additional pressure of energy prices, their are competant technologies.

The Obama sitting down to talk issue has already been clearly explained. Real leaders talk even to their adversaries. Doing so does not give their adversaries credibility, it gives our leaders credibility. I have no doubt that the first words out of Obama or his team's mouths would be "renounce your remarks about wiping out Isreal in order to continue this discussion". We do not negotiate with terrorists, and for the McCain Republicans to imply that Obama would do so is a disgraceful lie.

Palin's diatribe was one of lies and artful misrepresentations from beginning to end. The most obvious was her assertion that McCain has not and does not flip flop..

McCain calling Biden a liar is calling the kettle black, then again McCain can spot a liar since he's mastered the trait. It was pathetic to see how much Palin tried to use the fact that she is from a tiny town and is just like us??? I don't get blessed to keep witchcraft from overpowering me. LAME!!!

McCain is living a lie. He professes to believe anything now that will get him elected. One day is against the bailout. The next day, probably after a phone call from the White House, he flip-flops on the issue and becomes an ardent bailout proponent. McCain runs ads depicting himself as the "less-government" candidate, yet there he is with the Democrats in Congress, crowing for the bailout of Wall Street which is in effect a euphemism for crony capitalism.

I was surprised to find a report on the McCain ad in the department titled "Political Intelligence," because, frankly, there is none to be found in any ad for McCain. Just slander, exaggerations, mischaracterizations, and outright lies.

Sarah Palin is a lie. She refused to answer question because she can't . She could only repeat what she was prepped to repeat. Whenever you actually think about and respond to questions and respond you risk not being completely accurate. Perhaps Biden wasn't always completely accurate Thursday night, but he was completely real, somthing that Palin and McCain just don't value at this point in their quest for power. Shame on them both.

Oh brother. How about all the questions that Ms. Palin just plain didn't answer? Her performance was great. She even got in her Reagan moment with a "There you go again, Joe", and did her "shout out" to the 3rd grade class, etc. Completely charming.

She was energetic, didn't have any huge flubs and she is a very attractive person on camera. Poor Joe didn't stand a chance on that point!

She provided all the the pluses the McCain campaign wants from her, which is all in the realm of image. And frankly, the expectations were so low that if she avoided drooling she'd have come out OK. As it was, "the camera loves her" as they say and on that count she did quite well.

But that's it. She's incredibly light on substance and in no way shape or form ready to be president. Obama is - just listen to him. Biden is. Palin is not. And frankly, McCain isn't too impressive these days!

So, good performance, Sarah! It won't make a difference to the bottom line.

Actually there are two liers in the debate. If you missed the debate here is all you have to know about what has happened:
Man: Excue me, I think you're a lier.
Woman: You're kidding. You're the lier.
The end.

One second sound bytes are not hard facts, anyone who took the time to watch the last two debates will see right through that garbage. Clearly they are banking on the possibility that people aren't listening which could be construed as nothing more than a weak tactic.

What a pathetic ad. Of course we listened to Joe Biden's words. We could, because he actually had something to say. Contrast that with Sarah Palen's "words." What did she say, exactly, besides John McCain Maverick, me Maverick, Obama bad?

But then again, that's more or less what she's always said and perfectly encapsulates everything John McCain has said in this election.

We still don't know where John McCain stands on issues, because he has not made clear anything except his seething hatred of Barack Obama. And that he will stay in Iraq until we've spent ourselves out of existence.

Well, coming from a Man who doesn't recognize the truth, of course he's running a sleezy dishonest commercial!

They both mistated some facts or lied a few times. I know from previous fact check experience that Palin lied at least 2 times. I believe it will take awhile to try to fact check much of what she said.

She also answered fewer questions than Biden. Palin provided no new information or any clues about their "plan".

Gee, she likes answering "hard", LOL, questions when no journalist has a chance to ask follow-up questions. Palin can't do interviews and she's clearly out of her league. Wake up GOP.

Typical GOP..... accuse your opponent of the dishonesty you specialize in.

I am still GROGGY from doing the 600 miles roundtrip drive (with my entire family) to Washington University where the Vice presidential debate was held.

If you were there, like I was, you'd see it was an Obama event (by 80% to 20%), judging by the number of supporters and hand held signs!

And Chris Mathews was standing before us -- in the pre debate broadcast -- doing his best to make the crowd go wild!!

How did I see the debate and who won?

Well, WITHOUT a doubt Joe Biden won -- I and I'm sure EVERYONE else, who is true to themselves, expected him to win -- and he did.

Two BIGGEST surprises?

NO gaffes from Joe Biden!

And the other?

While I, and millions like me were holding our COLLECTIVE breaths -- yes, we turned blue in the face many times -- THERE WERE NO "DID SHE REALLY SAY THAT" MOMENTS FROM SARAH PALIN (other than maybe her dissing of "the East Coast"), AS SHE ALMOST HELD HER OWN, WITH THE OBVIOUS EXCEPTION THAT SHE WAS VIRTUALLY NON RESPONSIVE TO QUESTIONS.

BUT SHE HELD HER OWN, AND I DID NOT HAVE TO GRIMACE AT ALL.

NOW THOSE TWO EVENTS REPRESENT UNEXPLAINED PHENOMENA. OsiSpeaks[dot]com

What's funny is that Palin actually had more inaccuracies than Biden did...and she's the one running the smear ads. Typical Republican tactics...if your stand on the issues can't win you elections, then starting exaggerating or flat out lying. I watched the debate. And if you watched the debate you know that these snippets from Biden are cut out of context. To edit these together into a commercial is indicative of the pandering style the McCain campaign seems to advocate. Americans are not as stupid as you believe Mr. McCain. We are a savvy bunch. We know when we are being manipulated by soundbytes and shoddy editing, and unlike Palin, this isn't the first VP debate we've ever seen. Heavy breathing aside. We aren't fooled.

To criticize Joe Biden in this debate is a laugh, after all the lies McCain and Palin have told (Thanks, but no thanks re Bridge to Nowhere, etc.). Palin made the debate into a game of Jeopardy: "I'll answer the question and you can guess what it is." She turned the debate into a farce, and Gwen Ifill should not have allowed her to do that. She should have insisted that the question she asked be answered. That is what a debate is about. It was so obvious that Palin was going to answer only the questions she had been prepped for and nothing else. Her unsympathetic response to Biden's emotional moment when talking about the deaths and injuries to his family turned my stomach. She didn't know that the Commander in Afghanistan is McKiernan, not McClellan. I guess she is still living in Civil War times. Yet she acused Obama and Biden of looking back too much, she not understanding the adage that "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." But then what does she know about history, anyway? She is so out of touch that she talks of "hockey moms across this nation." We don't have hockey moms in the lower 49, we have soccer moms. But I guess someone who can't admit to the cause of global warming isn't aware that the rest of the US, with only a few exceptions, doesn't have Alaska's climate. And finally, do we need another person in the White House who can't say "nu-cle-ar"?

The ad is hardly accurate and exemplifies the McCain camp’s continued effort to outright exaggerate….everything. Furthermore, it is preposterous for the McCain camp to throw stones. Check out the outright exaggeration Palin spoke of last night: the “Natural Gas Pipe Line” is nowhere near funded and is years away from being started, her claim that “she has taken on the oil industry as Alaska governor” does not speak of her earmarks and agreements with the oil industry.
Did not many Republican’s state that they vote fog George W because they felt he was one of “us”? Where are we now? Messed up…just a little??? Do these same people feel that they are competent to be president? If so, then vote Palin. If these people feel that the requirement to be president is to be ‘one of us’, then vote her in.
Palin is not ‘one of us’ I would like to be compared to. She has little respect for our environment. Has NO international experience…She exaggerates just like the Washington people she criticizes, and her lack of care for wildlife is appauling.

I was amazed that the networks gave Palin applause for her performance, they must not have watched the same debate I watched. It was as if she had been programmed to keep hammering in the McCain campain slogans. I guess that was the purpose of debate camp. If a man had performed in the same fashion, the reviews would not have been so favorable. It amazes me that some women in this country after viewing the debate can say that they like Palin even more because she seems like someone they could have a cup of coffee with. I am a woman and although I do not find Palin objectionable as a person, I find her leadership skills questionable. I just love how Palin plays on her motherhood as if it is her most important qualification. It is not! I am a mother and although I am proud of it, I don't use it to ask for a promotion or raise at work. I hope women out there vote for substance, not a best friend. Why isn't anyone asking Palin and McCain about their goals to load the Judicial Branch with right-wing activist judges to push through their agendas. McCain wants to overturn Roe v. I watched for awhile and saw what I expected - distortions from both.

I finally switched back to a rerun of House when Biden said he and Obama would support not only a bankruptcy judge adjusting someone's interest rate but the principal as well. Obviously that would undermine a fundamental economic relationship and if they actually supported such a naive position, no lender in the world would extend credit for purchases. The financial world would end as we know it.

I feel much the way I did standing in the voting booth when Nixen was running the first time - who to vote for - the lesser of two evils. Either choice will give us more of the same.

Arguments by those who worry about who is a heart-beat away from the presidency are embarrassing when you look at the experience of the candidate being offered up by the opposing party as THE PRESIDENT. No experience what so ever that would justify stepping in to the number one spot on day one.

For people to believe everything that either candidate says is naive. They both exaggerate, lie, and manipulate whatever they can to get elected.

Face it, very few people watch the debate to decide who to vote for. Most are watching the debate to root for their side, much like a professional sports game. If you side atriculates anything at all you feel justified in pulling for your "Team". For me, it comes down to what direction I think the governement should take the country. I get confused when a campaign is based on "Change". Things will change, no matter who is elected. Our times, environment, economy, and the human condition will change - we can't stop it. How we cope with change is what should be central to a debate and campaign. Some believe we need to be more solcialistic., let the government take care of us and all will be ok. Others believe a small Fed is better. Let the free market work. If watching sports has taught me anything it is athat way too often a team will be wining and for some reason will change what they are doing to win, and wind up loosing. I say if you have a wining formula, why change it? Stick with the wining plan. Our country was founded on self reliance, and freedom ot make our own choices (religious and financial). With that is the burden to live with our choices. That puts some of our skin in the game and makes us much more likely to make the righ choice, and not risk too much. It doesn't matter who grows the size of government, it takes us away from our wining game plan. Lets get back to debating the real issues.

Wake up, folks. With the advent of the internet and modern media (a.k.a. gossip first / facts second), Presidential races are now more about appearances, accent, public speaking, height, weight, etc. It's all sizzle, no steak and all short attention span theater all the time.

This is why we have the Democrats teaming up an inexperienced Senator who speaks like a infomercial spokesman with Washington retread Botox Biden (2 miserable failures in runs for President, I might add for those of you who ignore all pre-Y2K history), and the Republicans picked an 6 years past his prime McCain and the worst VP candidate in the modern political era. Both are lousy tickets. The result is debates with no answers given, mudslinging campaigns, and a constant focus on "Hey, enough about me, let me tell you how the other party s*cks even worse than we do!"

I long for the days when facts matter and the priority is placed on having someone convince us why they are the best and most qualified leader for the future of our citizens.

The Ad is wrong, and really points out an ignorance of McCain you wouldn't expect. Ahmadinejad is President of Iran, as such he generally has a deal of power *Domestically* however the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not only (as the title indicates) the Supreme Leader of Iran (i.e. more powerful then the President) he also has complete responsibility in directing foreign affairs.

Main issue is that both Obama and Biden were responsible for failing to head off the financial crisis we are now in while McCain attempted several times as recently as 2-3 years ago and even as far back as President Clinton (and Clinton agreed with McCain) to head off this crisis. Sarah Palin is a fiscal conservative and her Gov. record show it. The health care insurance Obama promotes will never be paid for without a significant increase in taxes while the McCain plan will give everyone a $5000.00 tax credit each year and allow you to choose your provider....Obama's will result in lower level health care for all. The fact that Obama and Biden voted for big oil to get more tax breaks should be enough to stop anyone from voting the Obama ticket.....note Hillary Clinton, and McCain voted no on that oil tax break.

Sarah did great right from the start when she came to the stage saying "Can I call you Joe?" and clearly caught him off guard. After all foreign policy is well handled by McCain while Obama said he would sit with anyone including those that want to kill us without any requirements for them to even take back statement about killing all Jews in Isreal. Talk about turning water into wine,Obama spits out pretty albeit empty words and has half of America ready to vote for him.......Obama will result in a much higher unemployment which is why you will pay less taxes, because you will have less income. I am a life time democrat and current business owner, have never voted Republican before but I will Vote McCain/Palin in November and hope a majority of Americans get a grip before this election or expect to be worse off financially soon after. With Obama as President, the best paid jobs will be in the military handling all the wars he gets us into.

If anyone out there thinks that the Democrats have the answers they are smoking dope! Lets look at the fact, it was under the Clinton administration that regulations were eased in an effort to expand home ownership predominatly for mintories and when cautioned about the risk they were ignored. But enough about pointing figures at someone else. The bottom line is the banks and individuals that signed off on and provided these loans should take responsibility for their actions not you and me.

Biden and his long term friends in the senate will never change and if you think for one minute that things will change under Obama-Biden think again. If I recall the last elections... it was the most important ever and Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats were going to change the world? What happened? I thought they were going to end the war? What happened is polotics and reality. Wake up Amercia!

Anyone that understads the impact of government knows that the impact of any meaningful legislation take 10+ years to take affect. so right now we are living with the changes implemented by the Clinton years. Funny how the media and liberals out there keep forgetting how this works.

Here is a challenge for all Americans. Do you really want change? Really? Then vote out any and all incumbents regardless of party affiliation. Do you have the guts to really make a change? If not then why vote for the same.

what is wrong with all you people? Did you watch the same debate I did? Biden told several out and out LIES in the debate. Senator Thompson listed them following the dabate. Obama, DID say he would sit down with the Iranian tyrant. I remember that Democratic Debate. He said he and Obama voted certain ways, and the record shows differently. Why would he say he was shot at in Iraq, when there is NO evidence and no witnesses that it actually happened? I dont trust Obama, or Biden. They say what they think the audience wants to hear, then change when they are in front of a different audience!!! I know that's part of politics, but they arent even good at it!

Ya'll are willing to trust someone with no experience to do one of the toughest jobs? Thats like letting your 2 yr old drive your car. Come on.. Now Im not fond of McCain a good portion of the time and honestly my vote would be the 3rd party candidate Bob Barr, but realistically... Obama doesnt have the credentials for the job.. would you hire a kid with only 2 years of high school or college at that to run your multi million dollar company if he had no experience doing it? Obama hasnt been a leader... If he wins I fear where our country will be 4 years from now.

Why in the world does anyone in their right mind take anything said in these "debates" seriously by any candidate for any office on any level. They simply distort facts to support their position(s) or their party's "alledged" position.

Politicians by nature have now become consumate liars, pathological liars if you will, and we, the American voters keep sending these mental midgets back to Washington to continue to screw up the country. The Congress of this nation created this "financial turmoil" with their stupid mandates to secure future votes by forcing lending institutions to loan money to people who did not have the means to repay the indebtedness. Wall Street in turn was smart enough, and unethical enough, to twist and turn the rules into tremendous profits on the backs of the public. It has now affected every facet of our society.

The automobile industry has done the same thing - $0 down - $0 percent interest and 72 months to repay. That is financial suicide and they are at a loss to figure out why there are so many car repossessions. You can do the same thing with furniture, TV's and any number of material possessions.

As a nation we have gone completely stupid. The majority of our state governments are running deficits - our public school systems are in total chaos and are "graduating" absolute illiterates - our highway system is in need of massive rehabilitaion and there is "no money"(?) to resolve the problem but yet we can come up with $700 billion to bail out Wall Street -we have lost our moral

and ethical compass and have been brain washed into believing that personal
responsibility is no longer a virtue.

And if the "concerned" politicians are so concerned for the welfare of the public why is there not one of them calling for the CEO's of these companies to forfiet the millions of dollars in salaries and bonuses they have been collecting for the past 5 years? The Enron people went to jail - so did Bernie Ebbers and scores of others for "white collar" crime. They have robbed their investors including the little guys who have put their money in 401's to retire.

The truly logical tact to ensue would be to recall the entire 535 members of the House and Senate and send 535 new faces with "no experience." The new members could do no worse than those now there who, with their "vast amount of knowledge" have managed to financially cripple this nation for years to come. Show me what the hell the value of experience is in this case.

As voters we should be ashamed for the stupidity we have shown for the past 25 years. We are now suffering the consequences and we have allowed the so-called two party system to dictate our choice - DUMB OR DUMBER.

This post is from a white male of 76 who lived thru the Depression of the 30's and reared as an FDR Democrat. I no longer can belong to either party as they have left me, I have not left them. Where is Ross Perot when we need him? Back in Texas saying "I told you so."

God forgive us for the mess we are in - you really didn't intend to create such a group of stupid humans.

He SIGHED ??????

He BREATHED and the mike picked it up. What possible significance are we supposed to derive from this other than the fact that McCain campaign has identified the Israel card as inflammatory?

The fact that the McCain's people imagine this could be fanned into something damaging to the Obama campaign - along with Palin's parroted repetition of the Israel talking point, repeated verbatum ever since she emerged from the McCain debate boot camp - shows they understand that taking on Israel in any form is the poison apple for politicians. Also betrays a level of disingenuousness and desperation only a neocon could love.

Pathetic.

The 'Obama as terrorist lover' camp needs to get a conscience. Israel is democratic in the same sense that Syria is a democracy.

The same sort of toxic trash is now being peddled in the New York area in a series of TV spots masquerading as advertisements for WNYM AM 970's syndicated radio show “The Apple.” These are saturating the market currently with nine out of ten of them featureing Michael Medved whipping up hysteria by hanging an Islamo-facist, pro-Nazi label on Obama.

Damn liars.

We could get this whole thing over with and take the gas out of both sides' balloons if Obama in his first week as President just flew to Jerusalem and recognized the state of Palestine unconditionally. Then the American people could stop being dragged by the nose through that region of the world and get on with the business of the 21st century. You'd be hard pressed to find a single person in public life today who dares to say it, but the interests of the United States of America simply are not synonymous with those of a tiny Middle East theocracy, be it ally or not.

The fiction that all of Islam now replaces Communism as the new enemy of America is a hoax and represents a highjacking of both the national agenda and the national debate. The great Molly Ivans wrote in the aftermath of 911 that 'we scared ourselves pretty good on that one.' Chief amongst my fears as we close in on this election is the fear that Americans in great numbers are being manipulated into voting with theirs.

I'm not going to comment on who lied and who lied more last night. Instead, I want to point out the obvious that every American should know from our history. Why don't we ever seem to learn? War is not necessarily about winning and losing, it's about fighting for a cause that's worth fighting for. I am not arguing against whether we should have gone to war in the first place, but once we lose sight of why we went to war in the first place, it doesn't make sense to continue with the war just to receive a 'blue ribbon' for the sake of being labeled a winner. How can Sarah Palin stand there and say we are so close to winning the war while more and more troops and civilians are getting killed every day! It's time to get serious and start having a plan of ending the war in the foreseeable future. Does winning the war mean so much to Americans that we're willing to let it drag out for years and years to come while thousands and thousands more people die? How does this help our economy?

I wish it was already Nov. 4th so we can move on with decision makers that are willing to make necessary changes. The thought of Palin in the V.P. seat scares the living daylights out of me! I feel like I'm being talked down to when Palin speaks. If she thinks this is her way of getting through to the American people, she is Dog Gone Wrong!

The ad is exactly right. Joe Biden was wrong on every point where McCain said he was wrong. The liberal left loonies just don't like to admit it. Face it, Joe got caught trying to have it both ways on coal, Barack made a mistake by agreeing to meet with those heads of state. I am amazed that no one has pointed out that - even after 35 years in Washington - Joe Biden still doesn't know which article of the Constitution refers to which branch. You'd think that if he were going to quote it, and do so in such an obnoxious manner, he'd at least brush up a bit beforehand.

The only time I caught Joe lying was when he was talking (actually only 22 times at last count). Otherwise he did pretty well in the debate. With 35 years of hearing himself talk he has mastered talk craft.

Amazing that bush/pailin think that ahmadinejad is going to be president of Iran forever. His ratings in Iran are about as good as GW's here, he won't be re-elected in 2009 (when elections are held in Iran). Ahmadinejad has no power, so what would be the use in sitting down with him? The news is biased, The black lady that asked the questions was fair and deserves praise. The jews own or run the news media and is for Obama, I can't figure that out yet. #132 Kim B.: If we leave Iraq with any hint of having lost we will be ignored by Iran, Pakistan and many others as well as expect more attacks here on our soil. As long as we leave having clearly won, we will be able to stop many future wars with threats or just air attacks. It is a matter of making sure that when we talk the talk, our opposition knows we can follow through and walk the walk.........that is the only way we will be able to avoid future war on the ground in the mideast and here in the USA.

I'd say Biden is one of the most honest
politicians in my lifetime (I'm 54). ????????

JOE BIDENS DEBATE - 14 LIES

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

FAITH or DELUSION?
The comments posted here by Palin/McClaim supporters are "interesting" and since I don't need to name-call to make my point, I'll leave it at that.

You guys must be the 20% +, that still approve of Bush. The McClaim camp has shown us their hand and they've got nothin' so of course they'll distract, confuse, distort, deny and trash respectable people like Gwen Ifill. Candidate's who won't reveal their ideas either don't have any or they know the truth of their position won't win an election.

It's sort of sad to see a man who was once considered by some, a war hero, slide into desperate and deceitful tactics and gimmicks. 2000 might have been McClaim's year but he got beat by a slightly bigger liar. I guess the lesson he learned was to lie to voters more.

Most voters are too smart to be fooled this easily. Those that are fooled have raised the question among many..... What's the difference between Faith & delusion? You must have so much "faith" in your hockeymom pitbull in lipstick that she doesn't need to answer any questions to win your support.

I, for one, don't appreciate madison avenue style marketing of a pollitician who offers nothing beyond talking points, some she mixes up and doesn't seem to realize it.

I've noticed that the nasty character attacks and name calling mainly come from the conservative right on these message boards. That's called being on the defensive because reality or honest conversation won't work when your arguments don't make sense.

The real folks hiding their heads in the sand are those who imbrace a mere image as a person who's suitable for the highest pollitical office.

EDUCATION might help you see who's selling you some of your opinions.

BTW ~ I'm from the west coast. Gosh, golly, I guess us informed elite are everywhere. Didn't know reading newspapers made me an elitist.

Wake up & smell the coffee, or at least try reading something that might be enlightening & educational. Whatever you're following now is leaving you sadly misinformed.

Why does everyone discount Palin for anything? Lets see 4 years on a city council, 6 as a mayor. Then on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee and RESIGNED because she believed the Republican members were unethical. Yup, sounds like a parrot to me. No free will, no mind of her own.
Her first term as Governor she had approval ratings in the 90 percent range! Her 2nd term even as September is still close to 70%. She is the youngest Alaskan governor ever, and the first female. She deserves to be taken seriously, as any other candidate does. She came from a humble background and is by any measure a success as a person.

As an independent voter leaning toward Obama/Biden, I was following Scott's post #125 who made some sound arguments and I assume factual statements about the complicity of Obama/Biden as senators in failing to head off the current financial crisis, and his views of Palin's successful performance in the VP debates. He almost had me until he made the statement, "With Obama as President, the best paid jobs will be in the military handling all the wars he gets us into. " How could one possibly believe that to be the case? From my understanding of what I have read and seen, we are much MORE LIKELY to be involved in another war or conflict if we continue to support the current philosophy of forcing democracy on people by bombs and bullets. Shouldn't democracy come from the bottom up, not forced on people from the top down? We need to get fully engaged in the internationaly community and lead by example, not force. Dipolomacy first, bombs when everything else has filed.

My first time to this website. Certainly no one could accuse this sight of reflecting any semblance of balance. But at least it is mostly civil, which is more than I can say of most of the sites that are this far to the left. 151 suggests "Dipolomacy first, bombs when everything else has filed." Some would disagree:

Q: You will not deny the use of force is only the last resort?

A: "I not only deny it, I denounce it as a mischievious, dangerous cliche. Force should be resorted to when the absence of force does not affect an imperative national objective and should always be used when less force guards against the use of more force at a later time. A lesser force used against Hitler in 1937 would have prevented the need for a greater force used against him beginning in 1941. The difference between the two modes of force is measured by about 45 million lives."

If you really believe some comment that Obama will lead us to war, I've got a question. Have you been paying attention to the campaign or to how poorly we worked with our allies the last 8 years? Because if you've read any reputable source, you'd already know Obama and Biden are diplomats and believe in talking, yes even to some enemies under certain circumstances. Sure beats war!!!
