Obama builds lead in Nevada, poll says

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 28, 2008 01:38 PM

Barack Obama leads John McCain by double digits for the first time in Nevada, one of the Western swing states that could fuel an Obama electoral landslide, according to a new poll.

The Suffolk University poll, which found a dead heat about a month ago, now gives Obama a 50 percent to 40 percent lead among likely voters.

"Barack Obama seemingly has struck a chord with the independent spirit of the West,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston, said in a statement. "Some of the battleground states that were once solidly Republican are showing blue streaks as we get close to Election Day.”

Nevada, which has 5 electoral votes, has voted Republican in eight of the last 10 presidential elections, dating back to 1968, Suffolk notes.

The survey, conducted Thursday through Monday, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.6 percentage points.

The best thing about 100% Denocratic control is that they will bring all our armed forces back from overseas so we can fight the war here on our own turf and not on some foreign soil. We know the ground better and have more people and supplies on our home ground so we can better hold the enemy off. If we have all our soldiers here, no one would ever dare attack America on our ground.

I am sure Mrs. Pelosi and Mr Reid have a homeland defense plan so well thought out that all those generals will be embarassed that they didn't think of it.

Explaining Socialism- for those of you who don't understand what "spreading the wealth around" means.

It's Halloween and you go out with your friends and trick-or-treat for hours- knocking on doors in the dark and the cold, collecting all your candy goodies.

When you get home, cold, tired and hungry you begin to sort through your hard earned Halloween treats and then- "THEY" step in and say "Stop! You must give US half of your candy (since you have SO MUCH)- so that WE can give it to the children who were too lazy to buy or make a Halloween costume and exert the effort to go out into the dark and cold- to get THEIR SHARE."

THAT, People, is what Socialism is about.

Thank god I was raised in the west! Sorry Boston. But in the western part of the United States we think about how this bad situation can change and how to make life better. We can be a wild bunch, but we know in our hearts life is good even when things go wrong. I own a house in Maine and people there act as though the world is going to end soon. Obama might live in Chicago, but he was raised in the far west Hawaii.
Obama is full of fresh ideas and he is a westerner. Obama 08 and 12

I considered supporting McCain but his pick of Palin put me over the edge. I hope McCain doesn't damage his legacy with all these negative attacks. I want to hear what he WILL do that's right, not tearing down the country with all these negative attacks.

All the polls said, Kerry was ahead of Bush all the time in 2004. Came out differently and I was shocked. I have no trust on these polls.

Yes to Donald Smith remark. There's just something so relaxing and peaceful about the truth. You don't have to get all stressed out pretending anything, attacking, anticipating attacks, you don't have to be neurotic, lie about your age, your policies, your intentions, or your vision. That's attractive. Luminous. Inspiring. Natural.

Obama's disreputable background is ignored by his supporters due to the increasingly current liberal approach that most anything goes, and to h*ll with being accountable. He also had the good luck to win the primary because his baggage re Wright didn't hit the news until after he won the first nine primaries. After that it was nip and tuck and Clinton almost won anyway. Then add the Bush millstone around McCain's neck and the current economic downturn and we see that McCain's doing good to be as close as he is in the race.

If we all believe that we are brothers and sisters, then what is wrong with sharing. Sometime your brother or sister is too sick to go out to go trick or treating. So when you come home with a lot of goodies, you share it with your sick brother or sister. That is what America is all about.

Hey Alec, since when is begging for candy considered capitalist? Socialism is when the government provides almost a trillion dollars to private banks because they were too stupid to survive on their own. Oops...guess that has already happened and Grampa McMunster supports it.

Ok the trick or treat anology of socialism is full of epic fail.

Socialism under trick or treat is you go to the goverment sponsored trick or treat party and they give you a bag of candy then you go home. They don't take half your stuff because the government gives you all your stuff, regulates what you can and can not have and distributes it to the people. The trick or treat socialism is not what Alec #6 explained. What he explained is the McSame/Saint Sarah of the Morons Palin economic package

Alec's Halloween example for explaining Socialism was sweet. But he forgot to mention that in return for handing over half his candy, he would receive a number of perks, including free dental care.

In truth, Obama is no Socialist. So Alec would be able to keep all the hard-earned loot from his Halloween begging franchise, and the bottom economic segment of America will probably continue on its current trajectory towards full dentures.

"Spread the wealth" would be a rally cry for the nation, instead of the current slur, if it were phrased the way it should be: "Tax the rich."

In a country where the rich get richer and the middle class dies, we instead get led astray with calls of "socialism" or "communism."

Tax the rich. Save the middle class. Vote Obama.

I'm so glad to be reminded of the lecture on socialism delivered by a plumber. He should be accepted as the newest and brightest Republican economic strategist.
The US has always had a graduated income tax. Bush distorted the graduation to favor the most wealthy payers. Obamas plan taxes the wealthy at a lower rate then Reagan. Was he a socialist? I watched a video of McCain in a town hall meeting explaining to a young lady that a fair graduaterd tax was a reasonable burden to impose on the most wealthy. Guess McCain is a socialist too. The socialist tag McCain is trying to pin on Obama is another Red Herring.

"All the polls said, Kerry was ahead of Bush all the time in 2004. Came out differently and I was shocked. I have no trust on these polls."
Wrong Sam!

Check out the polls at Real Clear Politics, and they'll show that at this time in 2004, Cheney/Bush had a 6.3 point lead over Kerry/Edwards.

Nice try.

To read all the virulent "socialist" nonsense on these sites, one would think that the richest folks in the country are blogging here. Then again, they would also have to be the dumbest folks in this country as well, based on the syntax and reasoning.
I will be generous and presume that neither is true. So, for you, Joe Plumber, and Alec the Trick or Treater, as a median income earner in Massachusetts, making ~60K year, I would love to know how you think giving the McCain family a tax break is going to make your life better. Better yet, explain to me why John McCain, who partly earned his reputation as a "Maverick" (whatever that means) by vehemently OPPOSING the original Bush tax cuts that he now wants to make permanent (Flip Flop alert) has decided that he is now both a regulator/government buyer of bad loans and default credit swaps AND a tax cutter/revenue generator. You can't, because it does not make sense.

-Is it that you like to thnk that your income will quadruple in the next four years, forcing you to pay an additional few hundred bucks in taxes? I am sorry to tell you that for 99% of you, it will not. And for the few that do? I assume that you'll be smart enough to make the tax code work for you.
-Will the wealth "trickle down" to you? No. It never will. It never has.
-Will you lose your job? Maybe, but not because of a proposed tax plan.
-Do you think that a 37% tax rate for people making over 250K is tantamount to the government owning all means of production, and that you will have collective ownership in agriculture, industry, energy, manufacturing, and technology? Maybe that extra 3% tax rate will embolden Nancy Pelosi to nationalize Apple, Google, Microsoft, GE, and GM...
Oh, I have to stop now. My sides are hurting...

Obama should spend TONS of cash in Arizona and Alaska, just to give McCain and Palin the indignity of having to spend their last dime defending their home turf.

Anyone here heard a clear plan for America from McCain or Palin?

Exactly.

The people of Nevada get it.

Funny.

There is a commerical here in FLA from McCain where he just says something like, "Your savings... They'll come back. Your jobs... They'll grow again."

Really? Thanks Nostradamus.

I'm gonna make a prediction too:

Sooner or later, I'll get another bowel movement.

Effing hilarious.

I just loved that cute little halloween story that supposedly explains socialism. Its funny that the people who have never lived in a socialist country seem to think they know what socialism is.

Mommy, how come daddy had to die? Well sweetie its because the hospital wouldn't save Daddy. But I thought he worked and had insurance? Yes he did but the insurance company wouldn't cover the procedure Daddy needed to survive because it would cut into their profits. Mommy, why is profits more important than Daddy living and staying with us? It's because we live in a society that values profits more than people and families. But Sarah's Daddy didn't die when he was sick. That's because he lives in a country that has socialist values and believes that all people have the right to health care and life. Mommy, I wish our country believed in people instead of profits. Me too honey.

Its typical that the republicans continue to make huge issues out of little things like bags of candy instead of solving the true problems in our country. Its also typical that they continue to spread fear, lies and misinformation instead of learning more about the world we live in.
