Palin jokes about Tina Fey

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 6, 2008 10:39 AM

Sarah Palin is trying some self-deprecating humor to stay above some withering parodies on "Saturday Night Live," featuring Tina Fey's dead-on impersonation of her.

The Republican vice presidential nominee told voters in Clearwater, Fla., this morning that she had some not-so-great moments during a series of interviews with "the mainstream media." Her flubs with Katie Couric of CBS became part of a sketch two Saturday nights ago, and this past Saturday featured Palin's debate last week with Democratic rival Joe Biden.

"I was just trying to give Tina Fey more material," Palin joked. "....Job security for SNL characters."

Sarah: Leave the comedy to the professionals. And the governing, for that matter. But by all means, keep speaking in tongues to Katie Couric if you want to make Tina Fey more successful.

Hey Dr. Zombo

Obama's "58 states" comment was not a flub. He was pointing out that he had campaigned in 58 states. It is possible to visit states more than once. I think you need to smarten up.

Palin, McCain, Biden, Nobama... They are all a cast of characters..much like SNL's. Sadly, this election/our democratic process...all the candidates...are a JOKE. They all manipulate words, concepts, promises, stumble over their tongues, etc...some are just a bit more eloquent/polished. I can't believe we don't have better choices. Not just this term, but the last one... and the one before that. It's like a popularity contest vs. having the ability/choices to vote for the MOST QUALIFIED PERSON TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY, BE THE MOST POWERFUL PERSON ON THE PLANET. Maybe we should write-in Warren Buffett or someone along those line...with a proven track record. What do we have to lose?

you people bashing Palin for saying she's keeping Fey in business obvioulsy have no sense of humor. Like she was being serious when she said that...

or Fey is not an SNL cast member.. Like Palin or anyone else is supposed to research something so trivial as lame pop culture.

maybe some fresh (not so experienced) politicians is exactly what this country needs. Biden is a CAREER politician that knows all the tricks, shortcuts and how to work the system to make sure that his family and himself are well taken care of.

The real Sarah Palin is much funnier than Tina Fey or anyone can make her out to be. What a joke on the american people. Kind of like making Clarence Thomas a supreme court justice, or George W. Bush president of the united states. We are making the whole world laugh, and cry at the same time.

Go ahead and admit it you spineless liberals. In a pinch, you'd rather have a Palin for you rather than against you. Guess that's obvious because of the irrational fear displayed through many of your comments. Don't worry, she'll be much nicer to you than you ever were to her. She's an "adult" in that way.

Palin watches the skits with the sound off. That's like quoting newspapers that you don't even read. Oops, I forgot, she reads, "any of 'em, all of 'em" that people put in front of her. Does she have an original thought of her own? She is nothing more than a puppet and when there is no one there to pull the strings, she really has NOTHING to show. For those that can't accept this reality, my apologies that you are such blind sheep. Please tell me how you think the USA has been doing the last 8 years? Do you thinks it's been all roses? Do you really think McPain is different? Have you seen who the majority of WALL STREET executives have donated money to the past 8 years? REPUBLICANS. Who is serving who?

Isn’t it funny how the loony left wants to have the experience argument when the VP candidates are in question, but downplay experience (in favor of ‘soundness of judgment’) when it comes to the two truly consequential candidates in 2008 (i.e. the PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES)? It’s becoming evident that after two terms of Bush the left has collectively lost its mind- their candidate is the biggest empty suit and most radically left candidate that they’ve nominated in decades. There is only one candidate who has the resume (both personal and political) that truly shows his strong character, ‘soundness of judgment,’ his willingness and ability to work with the other party and most importantly his EXPERIENCE as a national and international leader, and that is John McCain.

It’s as obvious as the ugly scar on Tina Fey’s smug, angular face.

Of course Palin is a little underqualified to be President should she win and anything happens to McCain.

Unfortunately Obama is less qualified than her, and he's running at the TOP of the ticket.

Governor>US Senator

I remember hearing the same type of comments and seeing the same types parodies against Ronald Reagan that Sarah Palin is now receiving from liberals. Now history shows that Reagan was probably one of the greatest Presidents this country has had. Unlike liberals, history will bear the truth that she is smarter and more capable then portrayed. Liberals, think we need 4 to 8 years of disastrous policies like the ones that got us into the financial mess that we are in.

Posted by eschase October 6, 08 01:02 PM

The one thing people keep forgetting is that Sarah Palin has only been in the national scene for a few weeks. As governor her entire focus has been entirely on Alaska. She's not going to be up to speed yet with all national and foreign policy issues. Meaning she's not going to be able to answer those questions with great fluidity during interviews. That doesn't mean that she can't learn and make valuable decisions. As VP she can certainly learn and her track record in Alaska validates this. Outside of being the 50-50 tiebreaker in the Senate what power does a VP have anyways. People counter that saying she's only a heartbeat away from the presidency if McCain is elected. McCain may be old, but it's not like he's going to go at any minute.

Palin is the most honest out of the 4 and that should be commended. You might not like her policies, but she is likely smarter and more effective than you and she sticks by her guns. If this was a Biden vs. McCain (with Obama and Palin as the VP candidates) then the Dems would have this election in the bag. But Obama's woeful lack of experience (about the same amount of experience as Palin) makes him too risky to install as our President Unfortunately, McCain is really the only option to keep this country stable. It is a sad commentary on the state of our political system that we cannot find a decent presidential candidate.

Oh dear, it's really something to watch the liberals in here. In no particular order, Joe Biden is a known plagiarist, he thought the FDR was president during the 1929 stock market crash, incorrectly claimed that Obama warned two years ago about the subprime mortgage crash (he didn't), and incorrectly claimed that Hezbollah had been kicked out of Lebanon (it never has).

LOL @ Don B.

Don, please, you are out of touch. The Clinton administration did not cause this problem. The economic problems you are seeing are rooted in the dastardly Lincoln administration, who put these terrible economic forces into motion. It's only now that we are finally starting to see the dreadful mistakes of the 1800's appear.

To be sure, the Clintons participated in this conspiracy (and there are emails to prove it! They were communicating with Abraham Lincoln via special time-travel emails). But it was Lincoln who started it.

Anyway, in your defense, I will agree that it was REALLY, REALLY touching and inspirational to watch the Republican administration of the last eight years desperately passing legislation and reforms and, oh, gosh, doing so many busy things to try and turn this country around after this century-old time bomb went off. Their focus on the domestic troubles of this country has been simply awe-inspiring.

You know I have always regarded Sarah Palin (since she appeared on the national scene) as a bit of a comedinne herself. She is actually quite funny. Very sharp and quick with her words. But these are street smarts and not real intelligence. Why she wants to be vice-President first and then President later, instead of wanting to be an entertainer who which she shows natural talent, is beyond me. Poorly educated and hardly civilised George Bush Jr has been an exception to the general rule, that President materials need brain as well as charisma. Sarah Palin makes George appear quite well educated and even enlightened by comparison.

@JeffnDallas,

You're not a GOP voter, you're a big phony. How can I tell?

1. A real GOP voter wouldn't refer to the President as "your current Commander in Chief".
2. You sound exactly like all the other libs on this message board, referring to Gov. Palin as "scary". A real GOP voter wouldn't make a statement like that after her debate performance.
3. A real GOP voter knows that there are no viable 3rd party alternatives. Who are you going to vote for? Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney? Bob Barr is the best of the bunch, but he has thrown in with the LIbertarians. If that's what you are, admit it, and stop being a fraud. But I don't think you are. The tone of your Commander in Chief comment makes me think you're a liberal. What do you say about that?

HA! HA! Sarah Palin really gets to these liberals. They hate her because she is everything a liberal woman ISN'T: sexy, athletic, smart, fun, strong, religious, and soon to be Vice President of the United States. GO OBAMA+Biden

Sarah Palin was a real joke on the vp debate, she would never answer a questions and would just bring up other topics. How she didn't answer the questions makes me think what is there 2 hide? are they hiding something??

all she focused on Alaska... as a governor of alaska, in my state of alaska, alaska this alaska that... she focus more alaska then answering questions about the debate because she didn't know the answers for the questions so she focused on alaska.

GO TINA FEY, now Palin is probably upset on how tina played her in SNL because its exactly how she sounded.

Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum-Laude

Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 of 899

Palin:

If it was a Clinton/Obama ticket, there would have been no contest. D's would have won.

This just in! Ralph Nader has chosen Cookie Monster as his running mate. While Mr. Monster, a former baker of widely recognized talent, does not have any public service experience per se, he has been engaged in community affairs for over 30 years as an addiction counselor and is the author of the bestselling and highly influential self-help book, "C is for Cookie and that's Good Enough for Me."
The McCain campaign was quick to point out that, "Although Cookie Monster does have what, in our opinion, is the background and expertise required to be President of the Senate and potentially leader of the free world, we are troubled by some of the associations Mr. Monster has made in his past. The American people deserve to know why he didn't report suspicious activities in his neighborhood to the authorities. Why did he really fire his assistant in the 1983 scandal that cost him his business? The voters need to ask these questions."
The campaign apparently was making reference to Monster's past ties with convicted pimp Vladimir Pazchenko (aka 'The Count'), who was convicted in 1996 of numerous violations of RICO statutes, and notorious slumlord Oscar Hermano (aka 'The Grouch') who famously pilfered millions from his tenants during the early eighties while masquerading as a homeless man. Monster has repeatedly insisted that he was unaware of the questionable activities going on around him. "Me did not know what everybody did while me was baking. Back then, all me cared about was the cookies. Me could not focus on anything when cookies in sight. That before Cookie Monster got help." Asked about the current state of his addiction, he replied, "You have cookie?"
As for the conflict known as "Cookiegate" that left his former assistant Zoe without a job and raised questions about inventory control at his local bakery, the candidate had this to say: "Zoe good girl but Zoe like to eat cookies too much! She eat cookies and not pay for them. Cookie Monster's investors not like that." When asked about rampant speculation that Monster himself was responsible for the missing goods, he refused to comment.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican, announced Monday that he will be re-opening the investigation into that scandal later this week. The Green Party later released a statement condemning, "...what is obviously a partisan attempt to smear our candidate."

Question for the Democrats

Do you think experience matters?

If yes, why did you nominate Obama?

You could have nominated Richardson (Governor, Congressman, diplomat, secretary of energy) or Clinton, (8 year senator, former first lady) Dodd (long time Senator) or Biden (ditto). Instead you nominated a first term senator with no legislative accomplishments in his senate term.

In Sarah Palin's 2 years as a governor she passed real ethics reform, RAISED taxes on the oil companies, signed off on a major natural gas pipeline being built and earned an approval rating of 81%- highest of any governor in the country.

In her 6 years as a mayor she cut property taxes 75%, got a new sports complex built for the city, and attracted several major retailers to open up.

Have we sunk so low that Ms. Palin's performance 'saved' her? In ANY High School Debate, she would likely have been disqualified and certainly she would have lost the debate for NO staying ON TIPIC. Probably Palin did get the jokes... Palin is scary dumb!
Anyway, Palin wants Alaska to become an Independent Nation? How interesting! And there is a video of her addressing the Alaska Independence Party convention and wishing them luck? Even more interesting! And now she talks about radical "friends", even though Obama was never connected with Ayers, but she is tied to the AIP?
VIDEO is HERE:

Go Sarah, Go Sarah! Dave we are putting our Country First. I for one am accepting responsibility for myself. I don't think the world owes me a darn thing. I want the freedom to make my own choices not DICTATED by a government that is too big to be efficient. No matter what it takes we have to strive to vote the conservate way and keep working on the politicians for a smaller government.

You go Girl! Just keep on playing McCain's Whippin' Girl. As you fall for this charade of his, it will ruin your career in the end. The American People have already seen how out-of touch you really are. It has been several years since you were a "Hockey Mom" as you profess every time you open your pie-hole. The only thing you did for Hockey, was to screw over your constituents in Wasilla in order to build a Hockey Arena in Wasilla, w/ in fact is a serious money pit for the taxpayers, all in an effort to try & advance your own son's non-career in Hockey. Everything you have done has been done with ulterior motives for your own selfish aggrandizement. And to think that you actually believe that Tina Fey needs you for her career. Absolutely clueless! It's all about you, isn't it? Just keep being the blow hole for McCain & your political career will go the same way as Dan Quayle's. Sorry Dan Quayle

Great idea, Vote Obama '08!

We need a President who is articulate and has to raise taxes over and over again. We need a President who is in bed with Fannie Mae exects.
We need a President who admires Jeremiah Wright, a fine man who hates America and its white citizens.
We need a President who associates with Criminals like Syrian criminal Tony Rezco.
We need a President who votes "present" on the financial issues during this economic crisis, while maintaining the top position as most Liberal Senator and Biden as #3 based on voting record.
We need "Change!" A Change into the world we call Socialism. A time where "Big Brother" will hold our hands and tell us what we should do. Vote Obama because, who needs our prescious freedom? Don't know about everyone else, but I'm tired of thinking for myself, I think the Government should do it for me! And Obama is the man to do it, because if you vote for him, he'll tax the working and give to the bums....time for everyone to be a bum!

She's very good-looking, smart, accomplished, has a husband who loves her, a loving family. This is why the feminists and the Democrats dislike her. If she was a lowlife bum living off taxpayers and had an addiction and a 5 kids with 3 men - THEN the liberals would love her...and make her the victim.

You comment on my name??? My name is only in regards to the blatant auditing of comments that goes on here to allow certain ones get through and others to not... It stems from commenting on the Patriots, but has moved on to other things as well...

Funny - you choose my comment out of all the McCain/Palin supporting comments to slander and call me an idiot... That's not nice, and that's not the tolerance that your fearless leader/computer programmer Barack Hussein Obama wants you to practice... Hope (for what?) Change (to communism?) No thank you!

Hey Joe Public: I've got a challenge for ya, yo betcha! Intelligence>Title Diversity>Ignorance Community Organizer>Alaskan Governor

Intelligence without any experience to use it, by getting elected to a high level office usually doesn't get anywhere.
Where did I bash diversity?

Community Organizers get people to pressure the government to give them handouts. The governor of Alaska is considered to be the most powerful governor in the country, because they appoint the other statewide officials such as AG, Treasurer and Secretary of State. Why do you think 4 of the last 5 presidents were Governors?

But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it's got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and getting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade -- we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation.

I just skipped the last hundred replies. Whoever wrote that Reagan was one of the greatest presidents of all time: You are a fool. I would say go back to college and take an econ course or an IR course except you wouldn't be going back to college, you'd just be going to it.

For people complaining about government increases, look at the numbers. Government expenditure over the last 20 yearsish has increased during the republican presidencies and decreased during the democratic ones. Party of fiscal responsibility my ass.

Anyone who has seen Palin talk and doesn't recognize her for the vapid, babbling idiot that she is shouldn't be allowed to vote. Unfortunately the same effing idiots who voted George Debacle Bush into office are a majority, and they will also be able to vote McCain and Palin in, and we will again be stuck with an unintelligent president and a dangerous vice president.

read this post and put in the word "Obama" where this other poster used the word "Palin".... it fits and makes even more factual sense!!!

"No, you're just that NAIVE to the issues and concerns. Palin fakes to know about the issues and concerns of the government's policies and those of the American people. She does well with scripted speeches and when not being challenged. You can tell that she really does not know the real John McCain because she allowed the McCain camp to script her with lies and she looked surprised when Biden brought them to light....scraping to find the right que cards and when she couldn't, she would skip the subject and talk about Energy. Palin is a joke. "

J4aiwm2f: With a large part of Sarah Palin's ideological "beliefs" centering around Christian theology, how on earth could you even remotely support her with an appreciation for Ayn Rand?

As someone who's read both The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged (and loved both of them), I couldn't think of a more detestable example of a woman who rides a wave of support she has no conception of. She's the epitome of undeserved success and the embodiment of the idiotic new American ethic of "Joe Sixpack" and "Hockey Moms", which I believe both to be denegrating simplified characatures for people who have no personal identity, drive, or desire.

Sure, Obama can be pretty socialistic, and it's that part of his policies that I do not agree with. But you cannot argue with his level of intelligence above that of Palin, who, given that she has no opinions save for the abreviated sound bites she spits out in interviews AND debates, appears to have the intelligence and personality of a wet doormat. Or even, I dare say, sweaty used hockey gear. With any appreciation for Ayn Rand's work, how can you even listen to someone who's every "opinion" comes from the Bible? She literally makes me ill!

Some of you Republicans seem to be intellectually deprived. You claim the medial is against your candidates, which is a bunch of self pitying malarkey! Here's one example. There is ample cirumstantial evidence, it seems to me, that Sarah Palin is a Russian spy. All that talk about Russia, its proximity to Alaska. Ever notice her husband has a plane and is a pilot and that it is often dark over there. Ever think he might be piloting his wife in the dark hours to and from Russia while she meets with spies and feeds them info in the middle of the night. Yes, I'm sure you have, but the media has totally ignored this story!! If they were so biased, they wouldn't be. Yes, she talks tough about Putin, but I bet that is all a cover. But the media won't investigate! So stop crying about bias, when it is obvious that there is no bias. Go Obama/Biden 2008!!!!

were so

I disagree with Sarah Palin on just about every issue, but my real anger is toward John McCain who would put such an absolute novice (man or woman) in such a horrific position. She is completely unqualified for the job of VP, never mind President. He knows better and this is just a gimmick to get some women voters to back him. He should be ashamed of himself. If Palin weren't so dangerous in her views, I'd almost feel bad for her.

I am a foreign citizen living amongst you. No, i am not from the middle east, not a Muslim, not a terrorist. I have a MS and an MBA and i do work here and have the same responsibilities and burdens as any of you, except i cant vote. Big deal. I would vote for Obama; not that he and his VP is perfect, but definitely resonates a state leader, a leader , and a human being way more than the republicans' Mccain and Palin. The world does not like the US very much, and that is largely attributed to G W Bush policies and the idiotic wars that he brainwashed your people to invest - YOUR money, YOUR sons. Please do not elect a President who promotes further involvement and sacrifices in any war. Thanks! G.V.W-Massachusetts

It's hard to believe that the VP debate almost mirrors the SNL debate. It's sad... I found myself laughing at the mock debate, but realized too, that this is making a mockery of the presidential election. What is the world coming to?? We probably have more people watching the SNL debate than the real debate. I watched the real one and she (Palin) did not have me convinced. She looked like a kid in a candy shop...Oooo. Look at me:) I can answer a question intelligently... yet I cannot answer in the mainstream, "gotcha" media... Pathetic. What does she love about Israel and how is she going to fix Wall St? I think we need to take a hard look at where this country is headed. We need experienced politicians and we need them now. We don't need a trial by fire approach by someone trying to fake their way to the White House. I am appalled by McCain's choice of a VP candidate. Hillary was a much better candidate, even though she is not a Republican. In my opinion, Palin is an insult to Hillary. She is not who we want running our country. She needs to focus on raising her children and maintain some pride before she digs herself into her political hole even deeper.

I'm going to ramble here a bit. I spent much of of last Thursday evening screaming at the TV for Biden or Palin to actually answer the question posed to them. Biden attempted to a few times, Palin not so much. If you support McCain/Palin, tell me something good about them. Dont' try to scare me into not voting Obama/Biden. That tells me you have nothing good to say about your candidate. If Sarah Palin is going to reform Washington as an outsider, why has she so easily settled in as spit ball shooter. Her role has been reduced to slinging crap about the other side. She mentioned all the great things she and McCain will accomplish if elected but neglected to say how they are going to do it.. And lastly, there is no job that prepares you to be president, so the experience thing is overrated. To tell you the truth, we're all a bunch of morons. We're about to elect one of two men who raised and spent a combined $500M to get a job that pays $400K/year. What does that say about the intelligence of anyone running for that office?

The only reason Barrack Hussein Obama is running for the President of the United States and this only reason most Democrats don't even know is because the United States defend itself from attacked by Islamist Terrorists Group like AL QAIDA,TALIBAN,HESBOLLAH and others.Obama has a deep conviction for his Islamists upbringing and that's why he favors relationships with HOMEGROWN TERRORISTS like BILL AYERS AND HIS FOLLOWERS and anybody that stand up against President Bush and his goal of defeating Islamists Terrorist Groups worlwide. In other words we have a Terrorist candidate that is about to become the next President of the United States with its finger on the Nuclear Button, god knows what is he going to do.
