Palin seeks campaign cash off 'SNL' appearance

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 20, 2008 03:59 PM

In a "Dear Supporter" email, Sarah Palin is trying today to parlay her cameo on "Saturday Night Live" into more money for John McCain's combined effort with the Republican National Committee.

"If you caught my guest appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, you may have seen an ad or two (or twenty) from Senator Obama's campaign," Palin writes in the fund-raising appeal. "This barrage of advertising is adding up to the most expensive negative ad buy in political history. And these ads are funded with the nearly $200 million the Obama campaign and the DNC raised in September. With this new money, they'll only step up their media buying efforts to flood every network with ads attacking our shared values. These ads are full of inaccurate information designed to mislead voters in key media markets."

While McCain can't raise campaign cash directly because he accepted $84 million in public money for the general election, supporters can give to the RNC fund that is helping McCain.

"The current media buying gap is a direct result of Senator Obama's broken pledge to accept public financing. This summer, Senator Obama chose to break his promise to the American people by opting out of the public financing system. But, you can be sure that our entire team will honor all of the promises we make in this campaign because we are men and women of our word," Palin says.

You know what's great? I did see a few Obama commercials during SNL but ALL of them were positive, the one where it's all "Yes we can!" and he's shaking the hands of the American people.

All I've seen from mooseface is that negative campaigning Golly Gee Whiz Goofy likes to talk up. Guess you're just thinking about yourself again, huh, Parah Salin'?

Obama opted out of Public Financing because people were willing to make voluntary personal contributions. How dare he refuse a government hand out!

It's sad that Palin and McCain have to resort to public humiliation to receive public exposure because their campaign can't raise any more money. And to help promote a long-standing television program receive the highest ratings in its career for free! WOW, what a couple of geniuses! Lucky for them the "government" is "handing" them up to $84 million under the public financing system.

Obama bashes Bush but will appoint a Bush Reject Colin Powell and will seek his advice. I wonder how many more Bush people he will call on for leadership. SNL would be another looser in the ratings if not for Gov. Palin. If Obama is so far ahead why won't he share the wealth now. We have a lot in need, give some of the unaccounted for money to them. Gov. Palin keep up your cheerful and refreshing outlook .

It is easy to be a liberal. You never take responsibility for your actions. You never have to think for yourself. Obama is a deceitful socialist and a Manchurian candidate. He hangs with bad people...Ayers, Wright, Odinga, Marsh, Rezko, etc. The most despicable quality is his desire to have partial birth abortions (never a medical necessity) and to allow babies from failed abortions to die without medical resuscitation. He is disgusting...

While they can't raise money after accepting public funds, you can "give to the RNC fund that is helping McCain." Then what's the difference? Typical GOP rule-bending. In any case, I wouldn't hold my breath for campaign contributions arising out of the SNL appearance. The woman is an opportunistic, ambitious dolt, precisely as protrayed by SNL...

I believe that Obama will soon show his true colors and what he has in store for our nation very soon. It will not be good. Look at Wall street on the run with the possiblility of having him as our President. He is not a Man of his word and I do not trust anything he says. Please look past his celebrity and see that our nation will financially and morally struggle with him in the White House. Use your brain's people and vote for the person who has our best interests at heart.

Well... maybe Obama voters won't go to hell, but the country sure will.

Interesting how readily some McCain/Palin supporters use religious condemnation to refer to people who think differently than them ("Unless you vote for Palin/McCain, you will go to hell.") Shows a lot about the true values that are being upheld, behind a false veneer of morality.
As far as many of us are concerned, the country IS in hell right now, and to attribute 'Wall Street on the run' to Obama, is laughable and desperate. We can't be sure Obama will solve anything, true, but from all that's being said and done by both tickets, I know for a fact that McCain/Palin does NOT have our (or at least my) best interest at heart.

I wonder why any of the debates nor any snl skit ever addresses the fact that obama will not salute the flag or has an issue with the star spangled banner. Then all of a sudden he is wearing a flag on his lapel. Pretty basic american stuff here folks. Perfect example as to how mainstream media is tainting this election.

She definitly made this election into a joke...I dont want a VP that is willing to go on SNL and joke around about herself even. We need serious people and she is NOT!

McCain likes to lie and say Obama will "raise your taxes!" to scare voters, nothing but an absolute lie. Obama's tax plan is very clear cut and will lower taxes for 95% of Americans. The 5% who will pay higher taxes are the wealthiest Americans who wouldn't be wealthy if it were not for the rest of the American people who have worked so hard for so many years to create the prosperity we once enjoyed. Those who have grabbed all of our money, in the trillions, in either tax cuts or WASTING it on Iraq like Bush has done OWE THE WORKING CLASS and it's time to pay up! This is now OUR time and we will take this country back from them if we have to rip it from their greedy hands. McCain likes to say as he did in the debate that if Obama raises taxes on the wealthy, their companies won't be able to hire people and create jobs? Well I have this to say Mr. BS artist McCain, for 8 years YOU supported Bush and his huge tax cuts for the wealthy, and we now have the biggest jobless rate in US history and the most dismal economy since the great depression, so take your lame tax plan and economic agenda and STICK it. I'll take my chances on a serious departure from the failed policies of Bush, McCain and the Republicans and vote for Barack Obama for REAL change, that we need, desperately before America becomes one big wasteland, disaster area. OBAMA ALL THE WAY.

Obama is the only person in the world that could turn around the US from destroying itself..are you all that blind and ignorant to understand that McCain is a war monger, that he will suck the US economy dry to kill kill kill and bomb bomb bomb..get your act together people, vote for what is right, not for your brain washed beliefs..you would actually have Palin convince you that the earth is 6000 years old, that the global environment is not impacted by mankind...are you Americans all that insane...really!!! wow!!! grow some brains and quit being Bush and McCain puppets..as they are puppets themselves.

It still doesn't make sense to me why McCain and Palin keep slamming Obama for NOT accepting taxpayer dollars to run his campaign. It's the first step in McCain's fiscal responsibility plan -- stop needless federal spending. Obama's doing it right. McCain's doing it wrong.

Please go back to school and brush up on the fundamentals of grammar and spelling before you throw stones. loosers and brain磗 people....let us think about this for a moment. If you absolutely must hurl insults in place of informed policy critique....it is losers NOT loosers. If you would like us to use our brains, please use yours...it would be 创use your brains, people,创 not 创brain磗 people创 because that is saying 创use your brain is people创 and that, my friends, is just not english.

Is Palin's plea ILLEGAL - "While McCain can't raise campaign cash directly because he accepted $84 million in public money for the general election, supporters can give to the RNC fund that is helping McCain." The Republicans campaign on the solgan "Country First." Picking Palin for VP definitely is NOT country first as the main motive is to gain offseting votes instead of selecting a qualified and capable person with high integrity and intelligence (consider Abuse of Power and the "rumours" behind Palin's infant son). Accepting the VP nomination is definitely NOT country first as it's for self-gain (more power).

Just wanted to write that seeing Gov Palin on SNL was the funniest bit ever. I have been watching that show for years and I nearly choked! I had tears and a near fit! Her message to the world is clear now! Gov Palin has the best gift that God can give. A fantastic sense of Humor! What a cool Mom!

On that performance alone you now have my Vote!

Best wishes to the gang in the Red Dog Saloon!!

"Unless you vote for McCain/Palin you will go to hell?" Did I miss somehing here? Are they the second coming of Christ? Can they tell God who to send to hell? And are you saying that whoever does not agree with you deserves eternal damnation? What a sad, little world you must live in.

I've given to the Obama campaign five times and I'll give again. (and I've never given to any other campaign in my life.) What McCain and the GOP don't understand is that they are not fighting Barack Obama: They are fight ALL of us, and we are mad as hell, and we are NOT going to take it anymore. McCain has greatly underestimated Obama's strength: the American people. Obama's tax plan, that gives breaks to 90 percent of Americans, is something I will fight for. Obama's health plan, that ensures we can get access to health care, is something I will fight for. Obama's education plan, that helps my children through college, is something I will fight for. Obama's economic plan, that will encourage green jobs and bottom up economic growth, is something I will fight for. You can stop the smears Palin- no one is listening any more.
