Romney not ready to call Obama a socialist

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 20, 2008 04:47 PM

Mitt Romney agreed this afternoon with one-time rival John McCain that Colin Powell's endorsement of Democrat Barack Obama is outweighed by McCain having the support of four other former secretaries of state.

But Romney wouldn't go as far as McCain and running mate Sarah Palin in suggesting that Obama is a socialist because of his tax cut proposals.

The former Massachusetts governor, who is now one of McCain's chief surrogates, said on CNN, "You know, Colin Powell is entitled to his opinion and I'll go with the majority opinion of the other four."

Asked if he believes Obama is a socialist, Romney replied, "I'd say he's a real liberal. He's not in the mainstream of the Democratic Party. I think he's more liberal than that. I don't think mainstream Democrats like Hillary Clinton, would be excited about the proposals he's made. And I think his comment about redistributing income is one which would certainly scare a lot of people. Certainly scare away a lot of jobs, hurt the creation of small businesses, which is of course, been the source of job growth in our country.

"So, I think he's off of the left wing of the party. And after all, that's how his votes have also lined up," Romney added.

McCain/Romney are wrong about Obama being a socialist. During the US presidential primaries HIlary Clinton's agenda was considered by the french press as being more left than that of Barack Obama. Obama has been pushed into a Franklin D. Roosevelt position by the economic crisis. If anyone has read his pre-crisis economic position, they would know that Obama is a free marketer. Putting back up the taxes reduced by the Republicans on the mega rich is not socialism.
Trickle down economics does not work. Where have all the union factory jobs gone? McCain was on the commerce comitee . He should know?

Romney should cut the bull, he knows McCain sucks egg but is playing the loyal republican card for him. Look, in a couple weeks Romney is all the Republicans will have left as far as national leadership. Let go of McCains sinking ship, prepare for 2012!

You are all hilarious. We will not call it Socialism. Can we call it welfare? No, that didn’t work very well for the dems in the past. Can we just call it a hand me down? No, that didn’t go over very well either. How about wealth redistribution? Obama strongly opposes wealth redistribution. What are supposed to call it then? Oh, sharing the wealth. OK. Let’s just call him Robin Obama. He takes from those extremely rich folk making 250K and gives to the poor. Some of them even work. Have you ever known someone you would not lend $10? Now, you want me to trust Obama to give my money to whoever he chooses. Sounds like welfare. Oh no, I said it again. I must be one of those wacko right-wingers who wants to work hard and support his family, not everyone else’s.

I wish Mitt Romney was in the running for President, but he's not. We're all going to have to get use to having an unexperienced man as President in this failing country called America.

Romney would have been the best pick for President against Obama - the Republicans did themselves in! But, I'll still vote for McCain, even if it means it's just a vote against Obama. Obama's "redistributing the wealth" sends chills down my spine!

Obama is raising Federal taxes by 3%. So what? Where the hell do you think the money to pay for the Republican bailout is going to come from ? The Bush family and thier buddy Bin Laden? Why are bailouts for corporations called patriotic but bailouts for normal Americans called welfare(code word or socialist? This is a scam. If Mccain wants to win. He should advocate the tearing down of the fractal Federal reserve system, while co-extensively nationalising the US monetary system and then arrest Bernanke and Paulsen for fraud! No one has the balls to talk about the real causes of this failure. The last time the budget was balanced was in 1835 when the monetary system was nationalised.!

If you understand anything about a far lefty, 3% is just a start! But too many don't! So, I'll just say take your "first look" at the cost of what Obama is promising, you'll easily find 3% isn't going to cover the promises and programs.

A week ago T. Boone Pickens said, you don't raise taxes at all when our economy is "flat on it's back"!

Question:
How come nobody talks about everything Obama and the Media has been hiding about Obama's life? I haven't heard anybody talk about "Frank" from Obama's book : Dreams Of My Father. Investors Daily ( called the most accurate poll numbers in the last pres. Election) reported that Frank actually had a full name that Obama left out. I forget Frank's full name, but ID reported Frank was a registered Communist. This is the guy that enthralled Obama while he was in his youth in Hawaii. Obama indicated Frank visited a lot and really enjoyed the things Frank had to say per many visits over the years until Obama went off to college.

I'm going to do a keyword search after I leave this site. I'll name the book, and put Frank in there too--should be interesting.....

I am sick of goofballs who are so blind hat they dont think Obama is a socialist. If you read Obamas autobiobraphy "Dreams of my Father" Obama says he deliberatley made friends with marxist believing professors, becaseu he believes in solcialism. Obama has now elected a woman to be in harge of the global warming committee who was a head of the socialist party. After one year in office, t believe most people who voted for this man will be sorry they dd. If nothing else, Obama said his grandmother showed "typical white behavior." He said this in his national race speech. It takes a no class to badmouth one's own grandmother on world wide television
