Unequal time?

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 16, 2008 08:21 PM

For those who believe MSNBC is in the tank for Barack Obama, today offers more evidence.

The cable network joined CNN and others in offering live coverage of Obama's rally in Londonderry, N.H.

But when the other networks went soon after to John McCain's rally in Downington, Pa., MSNBC instead featured an interview with Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod.

While its primetime lineup, featuring Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, is by design more opinionated (and invariably more pro-Obama), MSNBC usually tries to be more even-handed during its daytime programming. But it has positioned itself as a counterweight to the usually pro-Republican Fox News Channel.

Speaking of Olbermann, tonight he featured a Globe report today that two Obama supporters claimed to have been roughed up by the crowd at a Sarah Palin rally in Laconia, N.H., on Wednesday. Olbermann showed video taken by Scott LaPierre of boston.com of the two men, and tried to place the incident into the context of other recent John McCain and Palin events where supporters called Obama a terrorist or worse.

Olbermann, however, left out the rest of the story on the Laconia rally: as the Globe report said, police reported that the two men had disrupted the event and had been ejected.

McCain's campaign has complained about MSNBC's coverage. So did Hillary Clinton's during the Democratic primaries.

Please....you are talking about 2 shows on MSNBC....2 hours...Fox News is all Republican all the time...24x7. It is laughable to hear right wing pundits and papers saying that MSNBC is biased....hey, pot you're black.

If this is true there is NOWAY mccain has a chance now. Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who's Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles keating's son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired Wurzelbacher is also a majot contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the past few years. Oh, McCain -- what an idiot! This is so going to torpedo any trust American voters have in you! And to bring Keating back into the discussion! What an idiot! Mr. Morris, have you been advising McCain?

I'm a Democrat that used to watch CNN and MSNBC all the time. I noticed how biased they were with Clinton Obama. Never thought I would watch Fox news but as a McCain supporter I go between Fox and CNN.

I almost have a gitty feeling watching the Rebuplican machine grind to a halt and all is revealed from behind the curtain... Sorry Joe Plummer it is time to make this country GREAT again and not devalue the Dollar (70% in the last 8 years - soon it will be worth nothing if the GOP have their way) and concentrate the most wealth EVER in HISTORY to the top 1%... We the People will take the Country by Storm if need be...

If we could use a scale to rate the negative rhetoric coming out of the Sean Hannity show as opposed to Keith Olberman's... I'd have to say Hannity is a 9+ and Olberman is probably a 5. And I'm really being honest. Hannity must have played the Reverend Wright video clips thousands of times in the past 8 months, but Olberman has only had the Palin witch doctor video clip and McCain with that problematic minister a couple of dozen times.

I actually bounce back and forth between CNN and MSNBC, and will occasionally check out Fox to see what kind of hateful garbage Hannity is spewing that night.

MSNBC is a joke. They don't even try to pretend to be fair. I try to watch all teh news shows - Foxnews, CNN,CNN headlines, and on occasion MSNBC. The only host and show on MSNBC that I'll watch routinely is David Gregory and road to the white house. He is reasonable and sems fair. Esp.now that that horrid witch (I'd prefer another term) Rachael Maddow is gone on to another role. Other than that show - you may as well get your news from barrackobama.com

For you fools who can not read or do not get it when MSNBC says they try to balance out FOX, what do you expect? Fox is for the republicans, MSNBC is for the Democrats.

Best line used at the Ralph Smith dinner was by Obama joking about the liberal media when he said, "is fox news part of the media?"

Can you imagine what Olbermann would have been like had he found himself in the same "Hanoi Hilton" as McCain? "lemme go...I'll talk, I'll talk"...hehe.

Q: What's the difference between Olbermann and Maddow?
A: Maddow may actually have balls!
