Bush honors Obama's accomplishment

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor November 5, 2008 10:26 AM

President Bush pledged his "complete cooperation" to help president-elect Barack Obama make the transition to the White House, and honored the history Obama made as the nation's first black president.

"All Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday," Bush said at a press conference this morning.

Obama's victory, the president said, shows the country's "strides toward a more perfect union" and the "triumph of an American story."

Bush said it will be "a stirring sight" for Americans when Obama walks into the White House.

"Many of our citizens never thought they would live to see that day," he said.

Bush also had kind words for Republican John McCain, who he said ran a "determined campaign.

"The American people will always be grateful for the lifetime of service John McCain has devoted to this nation," he said.

Hopefully this act will be the first step towards a more unified nation.

Truly amazing how in 24 hours our country goes from sniping to unifying. I like this side of that 24 hours so much better. Keep up the positive, unifying comments everyone. We have a lot to do and this great new president is going to need a heck of a lot of help.

Americans will certainly be proud when Obama takes over the Presidency. Even more than they will be happy when Bush leaves.

Thus spake the lamest of lame ducks evar. But the proof is in the pudding. It wouldn't be the first time he said one thing and did another. Expect stonewalling and non-cooperation from the current administration during the transition.

Maybe Michael "heckofa job" Brown will be put in charge of the Bush transition team. Or maybe Harriet "I know nothing. Nothing." Myers.

It will be interesting to see how a man who has never worked with Republicans and who has Partisan Pelosi and Reid running Congress, will reach out to half the population that did not vote for him. I pray he does not suffer the same fate as Bush with constant unfounded criticism from the press and the American people. Good luck president Obama. I wish you well and hope you really believe in consiliation.

Yes, my Great Idiot president ---- a union you have, with great ineptness, arrogance and ignorance, done your best to destroy. Go back to Texas and shoot down some Elk or whatever. Please spare the country any further comments, thoughts(have you had an intelligent one in 8 years!!!!) and, esp, executive decisions and statements !!!!!

If only there was a speck of reconciliation and support from "the best & brightest" and their Fuhrer, Jay Severin. Considering he called Obama a "bastard" on Monday's radio show, I'm betting he will keep up the venomous and hatred filled talk as long as he has an audience.......There's an idea......stop listening to Fuhrer radio and take on a patriotic and non-traiterous stance.........like giving Obama a chance to succeed.

Yes - this country is moving toward a unifying nation where one can become anything regardless of race. This is beautiful. Obama and his family are in my prayers and I look forward to working with him to make this a better country for ALL.

What history has been made...that we elected a half white half African American president?

An era of change is truly upon us. As a registered Republican in the most liberal state in the Union (MA), I would like to see the sniping partisan BS come to an end. Republicans and Democrats are equally guilty here. All of it is childish and, in the end, leads us to nowhere.

If our great nation is to remain 'on top of the world' we need to TRULY come together to get things done. I wish nothing but the best for the Obama administration on the numerous issues that lay before him and his staff.

Ryan, excuse me, but your right wing nutjob president just nationalized a good portion of the financial and insurance sector. I think I'd be a little more careful about tossing that socialist tag out there if I were you.

Maybe the Bush Administration will have some class and not steal all the O's off the keyboard, like President Pants Down did with all of the W's.

No, the really inspirational sight will be Puddinhead Bush slithering OUT of the White House to disappear under the rock back in Crawford, Texas.

I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that the nation is unified when all three houses are dominated by rulers who legislate on behalf of 54% of the population and have never in the past shown a willingness to compromise on behalf of the 46% who disagree with them.

If anything, when you say unified, you must mean that the goverment will be free to pursue its liberal agenda with little interference, at least until the next few years show that the Democrats aren't much better than the Republicans when they control the government, which, by the way, they have for the past two years.

I wish Obama good luck and good judgment, for all our sakes.

Bush can go back to his hobby of contentedly chopping brush at his cattle-free "ranch" now that he and his pals have looted the country. His bloody preemptive war (benefitting only eager American contractors) and long extensions of tax breaks for the very rich won't be forgotten. The tax breaks, at least, can be reversed by a new administration, but the pointless sacrifice of our young soldiers (not to mention the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians blown to bits by our "surgical" bombings) should long mark his legacy in history.

What is wrong with all you negative people? How can you be such sore winners?

Get on with your lives and be positive. You got what you wanted; Obama won.

I didn't vote for him. However, I am happy for my country that we have another peaceful and successful election.
