Economy is Meeting No. 1 for Obama
President-elect Barack Obama gets his first top-secret national security briefing today.
Friday, he plans his first public event since his historic victory Tuesday -- a meeting with top economic advisers, followed by a news conference, the Associated Press reports.
The economy, by far, was the most important issue for voters. And the country's economic woes will likely shape the start of Obama's presidency.
Obama's office just announced the members of the economic team he will consult with on Friday:

Warren Buffett (Chairman and CEO, Berkshire Hathaway)-will participate via speakerphone

Roger Ferguson (President and CEO, TIAA-CREF and former Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve)
Jennifer Granholm (Governor, State of Michigan)

Why not appoint Jesse Jackson.....you know he wants to
Wow Kevin, what insight! BTW, when is the next klan meeting? You would know that too.
Kevin, please be positive.
why not Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright or maybe even Tony Rezko, wait do these guys know anything about ecomoics or does that even matter anymore? While we are at it take a look at your brokerage statements since the annoited one won the election so much for change...oh I guess that does not matter either because we will be redistributing that right? No wonder you guys wanted him in there....work 3 days a week and live off the state!
oit wasnt even a fair election ir Obama was white he wouldn't have any experience .....have fun 0paying for all those illegal in this country yea we should all be treated equal ,but not them......if hes some radical Leader its all on you and the many other idiotic fools like you dunlap ,by the way stop calling people racist when they point out facts and people Obama is friends with cause calling them that makes you 10x more stupid, learn to read the blogs papers ,ect.
The economy will recover, but not because of Obama. The economy goes up and down. It is not Bush's fault that the economy is where it is now. If Bush stayed in another 4 years it would recover. The president does not control the economy. I'm going to be so annoyed when the economy gets better and Obama gets all the credit.
oh please james. what dunlop was referring to is the insensitive nature of the previious commenters statements. Just because Obama is black, he automatically must turn to Jesse Jackson? I thought that this election showed how far our nation has come. Even Sen. McCain, whom I respect very much, has stated how important this occasion was, to elect a black man as president. Yet some people seem to resort to bigotry and racism to hide behind the truth. The nation has made a clear statement that they trust Obama, and want to move away from politics as usual under a Republican regime. Instead of dividing the nation with racism and tounge-in-cheek commentary, we must realize that this nation needs its people to change, not just in the Presidency, but all the way on down to the us, the people.
I must also say that it is interesting how your comment began by saying it was an unfair election because Obama's race gave him and advantage, and then goes on to criticize Dunlap for making a valid point. Which is it?
The question is that while it appears that Obama was the best pick for the job; that once again, because he is balck, you assume that all of his cabinet picks should also be black? Really give the man some credit - he has already statred picking some of the most qualified people in politics. As for experience, neither mccain, nor Obama has experience being president, so it really doesn't matter in this case. Because if experience was such a big factor, then why are we in this predicament with George Bush. And don't blame Obama for your brokerage statements - go to the Republicans who loosened the regulations on the market, which has been in turmoil the past few months, not just the day after the election.
I also think it's interesting Eric. Because in actuality Obam had to work even harder to get the vote because he is black. And I do believe he did have the support of many balcks because heis ballllck, but also because of his appeal to the mainstream, and to those (even republicans) that were tired of teh way of the world under the Republican government. It's unfortunate that Obama is being talked about as a socialist, conservatist (negatively speaking) and many other things beacuse of who he is. If you sit back and take a look at the country and the world today that is run by white upper cast (men), it would seem that many people would want a cjange of viewpoint, scenery, rhetoric, etc. And, also maybe the economy would recover in 4 years with Bush, but then again, in his 2nd term it declined even more 0- so who is to say what he? / Republican party would have done. And really, the economy, it is the fault of George Bush& republicans, his unfounded war on terror, de-regulation of the market, etc... etc... etc....
work harder to get the vote; try this one; how about raising close to 800mm in campaign funds and opting out of public finance which is where John McCain got his dough, and where you have to disclose where it came from as opposed to Obama's fund raising and yes much came from overseas. I do not care what color the president is if he is qualified and leaves me alone. If you really think money did not get this guy elected then tell me what did? Funny how money is not that important once their is a liberal in office..... white upper class men? what are you talking about???? who is Nancy Pelosi chopped liver????
Anyone opposing PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA really need to come to grips with this election. To be honest I do agree with the person above and the comment that they made about the economy there is an ev and flo and there always have been, however, there were situaitons that took place THAT were in fact due to the greed of the republican party and we all just need to admit that. Yes, Obama will get the credit and so I guess you will just find yourself sick because that's the way it is. For all of you how are upset about this victory you are the minority in the way you feel. The heart of America is changing and you might as well change with it or just be upset. Racism has no place in America. This country was built on deceiption and now its time to set what has been WRONG for so long right. Now we can either go about this in a peaceful way OR reap the consequences of what comes out of ignorance and I don't think you all want that. Black folks and poor folks have been Disenfranchised for over 400 years and now that the first Black man has made history you all show your ignorance. We've had to suck it for over 400 years and most of the time its been very peaceful when maybe it shouldn't have been, but it was so please understand that this is a peaceful movement. Stop the bitchin and gripping and get with the program to help move this country forward!!!!
Power to the people; let's hope you are the first to open your wallet....move to canada and you will see what you are in store for...while we are at it why do you all go back to race, again who cares about color, did you choose a president because you felt bad???....tell me what he is going to change besides my tax rate? Oh yea and through tax credits those poor disenfranchised that you speak of will be more than taken care of for not working and hanging around at wendy's and store 24. And where are we moving forward to? Last time I checked this was still the greatest place to live.
Eric (#7) says "The nation has made a clear statement that they trust Obama" - no, only just a little more than HALF the country said they trust Obama....or that they didn't trust the other party. The entire nation most certainly did NOT say they trust Obama.
As for the race issue - if BHO had been white, there's no way in HELL he would have been elected with the lack of experience he has! He wouldn't have made it past the first couple of primaries! Countless people have voted for him specifically *because* he's black - it's been all over the airwaves. It's most certainly not because of any accomplishments (which is virtually nil - even his own supporters in the Senate or House as well as many ordinary people couldn't come up with anything he's actually accomplished other than "he brings hope and change"!!!)
So instead of a politics as usual under a Republican, it'll be politics as usual under a Democrat. This change isn't going to be any change - other than spending more of our hard-earned money and dipping into our pockets even deeper and taxing us even more to pay for those boondoggle programs!
Hold onto your 401ks...the messiah and the dems want to confiscate them.
Power to the People, I agree and disagree. Yes black people were disenfranchised for several years, but in the 21st century they have an equal if not greater opportunity to be successful as many of them are. Just becuase Obama is the first "black" president doesnt mean he is the first successful black person. Ever heard of affirmative action? United Negro College Fund? Various other programs targeted at helping Black folks and poor folks? Yet whenever someone is unsuccessful or a criminal for that matter, they want to turn around and blame it on "the white man" or "social inequalities". I "hope" that if nothing else people will now realize that this is America, where anyone can be whatever they want to be... and stop looking for someone to blame for all of their problems.
All of you color hatin, needin someone for blamin bigots can check yourselves. How can you point to Obama concerning your brokerage statements. PLEASE! Just the fact that your more worried about your personal F'ing, 'brokerage statements', than the big picture says all we need to hear. Your greedy arse is completely out of touch with the people. Get with the program and shut your yap.
You people are so damn pathetic…but it's kind of funny to me so I'm enjoying it. First and foremost if YOUR FUTURE PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA had not shown the intellect and judgment he did throughout this campaign, he would have lost. If your precious McCain had not shown such a lapse in judgment in choosing a running mate who wasn't even in office for two years before she was cited for ethics violation, maybe they would have had a shot. If McCain had not 'suspended' his campaign due to the 'financial crisis' (that is still going on by the way) to run back to Washington and do absolutely NOTHING, maybe he would have had a shot. If McCain's running made didn't hold rallies that looked more like KKK meetings, then maybe they would have had a shot. I can go on and on and on and so could the American people because regardless of what you say on this blog, the people have spoken and they said OBAMA not McCain so GET OVER IT!! Look at it this way…if he does as bad as you think he will..you’ll have another say in four years. And let me just say this...if Barrack had been white, McCain wouldn't have gotten even 1 vote except maybe the one he casts for himself because it's obvious that Barrack has more intelligence in his eyelash then McCain and Palin have combined. Hmmmm.....President of his Harvard Law Class vs 4th from the bottom of his class....Yeah and if he were white, he wouldn't have won by the margin he did..he would have won ALL THE electoral votes....So you say whatever makes you feel better...whatever makes you sleep at night...go ahead…it won't make any difference...your next President will be Barrack Obama, chosen by blacks, WHITES, spanish, chinese, republicans, democrats-AMERICANS!!!! So keep crying...it gives us something to laugh at....and believe me…we’re laughing….HARD!!!
Hold on to your 401k's...Give me a break...you're losing those now and it ain't because of Barrack!-Oooh..I mean PRESIDENT OBAMA!!
The people? You mean my people? My family? The people who depend on me? My savings that I have made because I have worked my entire life since the 8th grade? Is that what you're talking about brian? Get with what program exactly? The socialist obama program? Not a chance.
The people have spoken. If he succeeds, the whole world wins. Why not claim your share of his success by not only wishing him well but also by supporting him in the incredibly difficult tasks ahead of him. That's patriotism in the true spirit of the meaning. He's our president. Please support him.
fpj; glad you are laughing as this is typical of the lib's, where is the compassion we hear so much about? helping the downtrodden? glad to hear that you really care so much, hope, compassion....like you always want everyone to believe. In the meantime cut the pony tail get off the prescription drugs and get a job, oh wait a minute you voted for Obama so you don't have a job or don't need one, or are you French? enlighten us on the 401k's as since he was elected the dow is down another 800 points, so much for change, or is that a laugh to?
Like you supported our President Bush, William? Riiiight.
The people have spoken. If he succeeds, the whole world wins. Why not claim your share of his success by not only wishing him well but also by supporting him in the incredibly difficult tasks ahead of him. That's patriotism in the true spirit of the meaning. He's our president. Please support him.
People have repeatedly stated that when we look at an African American we only see the color, not the man behind the skin; Then we are racist, but many polls were taken and many individuals voted for Obama because of his color, because they saw that we needed change and he presented the biggest change. People did not recognize the man behind the color. The reform that he is sugesting is going to destroy the one thing that our Country has that no other does; we have a middle class and the only way to truly destroy a true democracy is to take away the true patriots of our Country. To make them totally dependent upon the government, to insure we become a welfare nation.
I'll take my cue from all you so supportive, patriotic libs over the course of the last 8 years.
