Gore and Nader, back again
Democrats could be forgiven if it seems like a little of 2000 all over again.
Al Gore, who lost the White House when the US Supreme Court decided the disputed Florida vote count not in his favor, sent an email today to Barack Obama's supporters urging them to get out the vote.
"In 2000, the entire election came down to a small number of votes in one county in Florida," Gore wrote. "Four years later, we came up short by an average of nine voters per precinct in Ohio. A small change in voter turnout would have made all the difference. Take it from me, elections matter. And this time, supporters like you can make it happen.
"I know this might not be possible for everyone, but I'm asking you to consider volunteering anytime between now and Election Day -- Tuesday, November 4th," Gore urged.
Meanwhile, his nemesis from 2000, Ralph Nader, sent out a video mocking Obama for having lost his courage. The web video is a mock newscast of a young person looking in vain for the Democrat's courage on issues such as nuclear power and healthcare.
While Nader appears unlikely to get the nearly 3 percent of the vote nationwide as he did eight years ago, it is possible he will win enough support in some battleground states to tip the scales.

Um, it's called democracy. There's no tipping of scales, no "spoiler" effect and all that partisan bull***t based on one's political identity. Besides, weren't you glad that Perot tipped the scales 16 years ago?
Some of these comments related to third parties really show that Americans neither know nor care for the concept of democracy, but express a lot of entitlement.
I wish Nader and his big ego would just go home and do some good where he can add value. Part of me really blames him for the 8 horrible years we just lived through.
Vote Nader 2008! Larry your very ignorant. Blame Al Gore for losing the election not Ralph Nader. How could you ever discourage democracy. If Gore had won and Bush had barely lost then all the Democrats would've loved Nader. He does attract voters from both sides.
Al Gore did win, tool but the dirty republicans stole the election . Also Nader is a tool and his policies are foolish at best. Nader only looks at the fools and sicophants he has around him and thinks that is all of America.
We need to start paying more attention to Ralph Nader. He's been warning us about the things that caused this economic crisis for decades and that's documented quite well. He also has solutions for the crisis now, but instead of listening to Nader we keep putting the arsonists in charge of the fire station.
When we're stuck in wars that have killed over 1.5 million innocent people, the economy is in shambles, and the Constitution is being gutted--well, I take that as a sign that it's way past time we need to draw a line and stop supporting either of the parties that got us into such a mess!
In 2012, after you realize that you've been sold another bill of goods by Barack Obama and the Democrats, you'll wish that you had voted for Nader.
Ralph Nader has done for the people of this country than any other American. One day he will be vindicated, and deservedly so.
Go Nader/Gonzalez '08!
You people know nothing about how votes work. Nader is a scale-tipper because he is white and not McCain. In order to understand this you must first understand the ignorance and , this time, racism in America.
But for what it's worth, no matter who wins we will all still be eaten by Manbearpig because nobody listens to me. I'm super cereal.
