Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said today Barack Obama's election is an extraordinary step toward a "more perfect union."
"We just keep working at it and trying," she told reporters in Washington before leaving on another foreign trip.
American democracy, she said, "continues to surprise. It continues to renew itself."
"As an African American, I'm especially proud."

Characteristically gracious Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice! How unfortunate our first president of African heritage does not represent the experience and caliber of Secretary Rice who has served our country so admirably, and reflects excellence for all Americans to emulate.
I wish Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell would have ran for President. I would have voted for that ticket. She has the foreign policy experience and he has the military, their cabinet could have been made up of financial advisors. The way I value life confilicted with Obama in his pro-choice stance and McCain has been a part of the good ole' boys club for too long. Can we have a do over?
Experience of Rice and Powell? Look where we are at today!
when the dust settle and the shamless broadcast media stops hurling stones on the head of Bush and everyone associated, they will one day report that he had, in fact, the most diverse cabinet of any US president and elevated more females to higher positions that anyone prior in that cabinet. Only then will the hysteria melt to reveal not only a decent man, but that he was surrounded by good people, such as one of my favorites, MS. RICE! She will have my vote anyday, anywhere.
History will reflect Bush not the demon he was portrayed and Obama not such the savior he has been portrayed. That both are actually....human....
