The beauty parlor's filled with governors

Posted by Sasha Issenberg November 12, 2008 05:37 PM

MIAMI -- Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty opened the festivities at the Republican Governors Associations by declaring that his party "is going to need more than just a comb-over," and fellow attendees will get the chance Thursday to test whether a pedicure or neck massage will do the trick.

Over a three-hour "Day of Beauty" session, conference-goers -- including some of the party's most promising talents -- will be offered complimentary spa treatments courtesy of the Professional Beauty Association, a trade group that lobbies state governments for changes in their licensure policies. The association started offering the sessions at the Republican gatherings three years ago, according to its executive director, Steven T. Sleeper, as an alternative to the de rigueur golf outings -- although there will be one of those, too, on Friday morning.

History recommends a spa session for those like Pawlenty who use the conference partly to build support for a potential national campaign. At the last gathering, Sarah Palin availed herself of a "mini-manicure," said Sleeper, part of a menu of services limited due to a lack of running water at the venue.

Palin left the conference with a bag of beauty products from association members and a new friend: it was there that she met John McCain for the first time, their only encounter before he considered her as a vice-presidential pick.

Pawlenty is just miffed he got passed over by McCain. I live in Minnesota and Mike Hatch nearly bumped him out of the Governor spot last election cause he`s such a lousey Governor. If he`s the best the republicans have to offer then they really are in trouble.

Tim Pawlenty is one of the best things that ever happened to the state of MN. Dems see everything through lefty colored glasses. The fact that he has done a GREAT job as governer and STILL gets no respect from the left tells you all you need to know about politics in the US today. Everything left is good and every conservative is evil, there is nobipartisan exchang of ideas anymore.
How did we get here........

Palin cost Mc Cain the election ..this now will label her a loser and no one with power and money will back her in 2012...

She also is not a true republican anyway...she wants the federal goverment to support people who have special needs children!

a true rebublican would call that socialist thinking ....

I hope Pawlenty beats that weirdo from SNL. He could have never been VP because no one cares about Minnesota.

willy your comments are typically partisan republican blather. You say the democrats are partisan by spouting partisan statements. Talk about hypocritical!

Two men on a motorcycle used water pistols to spray acid on girls walking to school Wednesday in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, blinding at least two of them, military spokesmen said.

That's the Taliban, enforcing their POINT OF VIEW with terror, that women should be in the home, with their legs spread wide, and not in schools and workplaces.

Someone explain to me, how you differentiate the POINT OF VIEW of Christians, who say homosexuals cannot have rights, from the Taliban, who say women cannot have rights. It is time for the fundamentalists to hear from the moderates of this country. End the repression of minorities by the POINT OF VIEW of Biblical scholars who have never read the older texts that are now available, like The Lost Gospel, the book of Q. That good Bible has a deep wound and its about the truth. The Bible is a falsified document, lies written by people long after Jesus lived. We cannot allow zealots to ruin the lives of innocent people anymore.
