Obama to talk healthcare
President-elect Barack Obama's office announced that he will hold a press conference on Thursday about healthcare -- one of the most significant, politically touchy issues facing his administration.
He is expected to officially name former Senator Tom Daschle as secretary of health and human services, with responsibility for shepherding healthcare reform.
While there's one school of thought that he needs to focus almost entirely on reviving the economy and put off healthcare, others want him to act during his honeymoon -- and argue that progress on healthcare could also help economic growth.
Senators Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Max Baucus of Montana are working on an universal coverage plan to present to the White House early next year. It includes an individual mandate, which Obama did not include in his proposal during the campaign.

I'm type 1 diabetic and work part-time in retail. I was made legally blind from premature birth, so I can't drive. I live in the Costa Mesa area.
It is getting harder and harder for me to see Endocrinologists, retinologists and such, because I'm on Medi-Cal (CalOPTIMA) and fewer doctors will see people with my insurance. Just to get a lab test for A1c and other needs the closest lab is almost 8 miles away. Yet, I'm surrounded by centers and labs right in my area.
I'm getting denied service more and more. Something has to be done. I did not ask to be this way. I'm all for using the tools available to most to control this condition so I don't get worse. But the CGMS and other things are getting turned down to me.
