Blair House guest revealed

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 7, 2009 10:24 AM

The semi-mystery is solved.

When the Bush administration said the Obamas could not stay at the Blair House -- the guest residence usually home to presidents-elect -- until Jan. 15 because it was booked, it did not say who would be there.

The Washington Post reports that the only overnight visitor will be former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, one of President Bush's staunchest allies, especially on the Iraq war. He is to stay at Blair House on Jan. 12, the day before he and two other Bush friends -- former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe -- receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Until Jan. 15, the Obamas are staying near the White House at the storied Hay-Adams hotel.

This irritates me to NO end! The Blair House is owned by the American People! We have elected Mr Obama as our next president, yet this administration lets Mr Howard stay at Blair House! Move his backside to a hotel. Let the little girls and their family - the Obama's - have Blair House.

If Bush needs assistance packing - I volunteer... I will even rent a Uhaul on my dime to move him out!

This is outrageous!!!! Bush continues his idiacy to the end. T o disrespect our President -elect and the American People is disgraceful. Bush's 27% rating is 27% too high. And by the way, the cost to the tax payers because of his selfishness should be revealed. Maybe they can deduct the cost from his pension.

No matter if McCain or Obama won...The Blair House is lendt by the American taxpayers for the service of serving our incumbant President after Christmas til the swearing in oath. Period. Every four years, the tradition continues.

Shame on Laura and George Bush, they knew exactly what they were doing and as always using coarse, bad manners, no difference from the past 8 years. Shameful!

The use of Blair House is the prerogative of the SITTING president -- George Bush.

Until he is inaugurated, Mr. Obama has no say about nuthin.

Bush continues to be a petty man, that will probably never change.

That Bush - the Shrub - continues to display arrogant ignorance (or ignorant arrogance) is no surprise; he has always been a classless individual. That he is willing to go this far shows that there is no limit to his boorishness.

On January 20th, the US will be well rid of him and we can look forward to the return of honor, grace, and class to the White House when the Obamas take their well-earned place as the First Family.

This is outrageous. A citizen of this country has to take a seat in the back so that one of 'Shrubs' buddies gets a free ride. Why couldn't they put him up at the Whitehouse? Deep breathing nor Valium could make it happen soon enough. He's been there too long already.

uhm..... Senator and President-Elect Obama DOES have a home in DC, doesn't he? Where has he been staying in Washington while serving the people of Illinois? Is that not good enough for two weeks?

Rebecca, as so many have said - Blair House is for the guests of the SITTING PRESIDENT. Obama IS NOT president yet. When he is, he can use it as his guest house. But not before he is sworn in on Jan. 20th. Get a clue.

So many of you seem to forget that little fact - he is NOT PRESIDENT YET, despite the fact that he has had countless press conferences on what his administration will be doing as if he already was president! Keerist - if a Republican P-E was doing that to a sitting Democrat President, the media would have a field day!

Adding to the irony of this situation is the fact that Howard is not even a political leader anymore - he was resoundingly defeated in the Australian elections of late 2007.

Using Blair House to accommodate the leader of an important ally could possibly be defensible, (although how an allied leader trumps the preseident-elect is beyond me) but the fact is that Howard a private citizen who is simply no more than one of W's (few remaining) buddies.
