Kerry appreciation week

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 9, 2009 06:37 PM

Ouch, talk about damning with faint praise.

One of MSNBC's stable of political talk shows announced this evening that all next week will be "John Kerry Appreciation Week."

David Shuster, the new host of "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," which airs at 6 p.m. EST, pointed out that Kerry had to watch mostly from the sidelines while Barack Obama won the presidency -- which Kerry failed to do in 2004. Shuster also pointed out that Tuesday, he will be presiding as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee over the confirmation hearing of Hillary Clinton for secretary of state -- the job he probably really coveted.

The cable network showed a calendar with the week blocked out, plus a photo of Kerry surrounded by little red hearts.

"All together now, Senator Kerry, we appreciate you," said Shuster, which seems a little harsh, since Kerry has been a frequent guest on MSNBC shows.

Not sure I get Shuster's postition. John Forbes Kerry can only be appreciated from the point of view of who he is and what he has done: nobody and nothing. He lied about his injuries in Nam, he ran away from Nam like a coward and slandered the men he left behind. He marries a rich, depressed drunk and dumps her for someone even richer and even weirder. Barack Zer0-Bama may own the Senate record for voting 'Present' but Kerry owns the Senate record for plain old "no show".

A whole week? I would have thought a minute would suffice.

Wow, what an undeserved burn by Shuster. Wonder if he ever volunteered for combat in Vietnam during his second tour of duty there, served as criminal prosecutor taking many murderers off the streets for life, served as a US Senator with distinction for decades or run a nationwide Presidential campaign against an incumbent President (idiot as he may be) during a time of war who ran one of the dirtiest campaigns based on fear in American history and almost winning. Mr. Shuster, you are simply a TV pundit whose program runs before the real hosts of you network, running during the time most are watching the World New on one of the other major networks. Basically, your attack is undeserved and you’re not fit to carry Senator Kerry's jock-strap (sorry for the imagery).

Watching MSNBC makes me think that AFTRA has a 'job bank' like the United Auto Workers, where they just show up and read, kill time and get paid for it. Maybe they could get a poker game going on 'Morning Joe'.

Typical CNBC....what an unbelievable liberal bias. This station is a joke. Chris Matthews still probably feels a tingle up his leg for Obama and it is his job to make sure he has a favorable media postion (his own words)

I don't know what to make of this. However, I DO appreciate the senator and think he would have been a wonderful president and a Secretary of State. 2004 wasn't 2008 and Obama would have lost in a landslide in 2004 and Kerry doesn't have a husband who is a former president with power and influence, so the best person did not get the position of SOS. I still trust Senator Kerry to tell us straight up what needs to be done and I trust his judgment as much today as I did back in 2004. Senator Kerry is a politician who doesn't play politics when it comes to what is best for the American people or this country.I will be watching next week.

This was not a news-worthy story! What's to appreciate (even as a joke)?! Senator Windbag has been in office for 25 years and it's hard to think of much he's done in this time. America was too bored with him to elect him President in 2004-- they thought the retarded cowboy from Texas was a better pick. :-/ In fact, when I saw the headline, I was hoping it was about Kerry Kennedy, or maybe Kerry County, Ireland. They might be more worth appreciating . . or maybe not.

David Shuster is a total douche. This is what we get for watching O'Reilly and Olbermann: more infotainment crap. Turn it off.

An irrelevant network profiling a trophy husband repeatedly sent back to Washington by an electorate which must live with its head in the sand when it comes to what goes on in the country. Appreciate Kerry? That's a laugh.

Senator Kerry is a true patriot and a politician for the people. I appreciate everything he has done for our country. He would have been a great president and in the lessor role of Secretary of State he would have excelled. I hope this is legitimate- I think he deserves some kudos.
