Palin speaks about grandbaby

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 2, 2009 07:53 PM

Governor Sarah Palin admits that when she first found out "the shocking news" that her teenage daughter was pregnant, she had some fear and despair.

But now that Bristol Palin has given birth to a healthy boy, she is "over the moon," the former GOP vice presidential nominee says in a statement dated Wednesday, but posted on the governor's office website today.

"The road ahead for this young couple will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Bristol and Levi are committed to accomplish what millions of other young parents have accomplished, to provide a loving and secure environment for their child. They are both hard workers, they’re very strong, and have faith they’ve made the right decision in setting aside their own interests to make this child their highest priority.”

Palin added, “When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair. Isn’t it just like God to turn those circumstances into such an amazing, joyful blessing when you ask Him to help you through?”

In the statement, Bristol Palin, 18, who plans to marry the father, says she "obviously discourages" teen pregnancy. "Teenagers need to prevent pregnancy to begin with – this isn’t ideal. But I’m fortunate to have a supportive family which is dealing with this together. Tripp is so perfectly precious; we love him with all our hearts. I can’t imagine life without him now," she says.

Hmmmm...let's talk to Miss Bristol in about 5 to 10 years when Levi is long gone and the bills are due.

Tripp? Are you kidding me? That name is just as bad as naming a boy Cody or Corey. Tripp??? Then again, the mom's name is Bristol.

0h PLEASE !!! What is she supposed to say ..."oh, she should have had an abortion". I am SO sick of the politics that ruins our lives. Give me a break - a kid having a kid is nothing short of the worst way to wreck your life. How about a little bit of applause for those of us who CHOOSE to be responsible and NOT have an unwanted child. Trust me, this daughter of Sarah Palin had no choice - there are no abortion rights in that family !!!!!!!

Oh brother. Bristol "obviously discourages" teen pregnancy? How convenient for her AFTER having had unprotected sex while underage. What a bunch of self-righteous phonies.

I hope the young couple will not marry, at this time regardless of pressures that may come from family and church. The type of person you are at 18 is not the person you are at 21 or 22. Give them time to mature. They may or may not choose to marry in the future. They have made one mistake, let us pray they don't make another by marrying at this time. If they are meant to be together time will smooth the road for them in this respect. A child needs his parents, but not necessarily parents who are together due to outside pressure and meddling.

This story is sooo typical. If this daugher had been Barack Obama's (if she was of an age), we would have heard all kinds of how this is exactly how black girls act. Black girl's in the hood and her gangsta boyfriend. However, since this was Palin's daughter, it is a wonderful blessing from God. I am also a Christian and a black American and please, give me a break!! This is just another of America's young unmarried girls--this one a white girl--getting herself pregnant by some boy. But I guess that is just a blessing from God.

I had amazing debt, but then I "just turned to god", and now I am a multimillionaire. Isn't it just amazing? Thank god she's not our VP.

I was there too one time in my life, and with a loving, supportive, accepting family behind the child, there is a foundation that can positively be built upon, and grow. If there was shame and guilt on top of wrong choices, the whole situation sits and festers until it becomes intolerable.Healing takes a very long time in this case. Bravo to this whole family!

But now that Bristol Palin has given birth to a healthy boy, Sarah is "over the moon." At the same time her administration in the frozen tundra cuts funding to stop this in the first place and then again once the bundle of joy arrives via social programs that would give the shunned mother (the norm following Palin's religious affiliations) things as stupid as housing and food. You just got to love the Republicans cry === "We got ours, get your own!"

And in the interest of accurate reporting the kid should be referred to as, "the bastard grandson of Alaska Governor and former candidate for Vice President of the United States."

After all --- that is what he is! A bastard. The horny teens could have married before the birth to avoid the status for the kid. Adding the whacko name -- well, what can you say?

Election's over, 10 bucks says the wedding's off. Come on, folks, how many barely-teens could pull it off, let alone with the God Tells Me To Rule grandmother hanging over them?

How about the fact that they father and Palin's daughter both dropped out of school? We wanted this woman one heartbeat away from making education policies?

Republicans are out of their minds these days...

She should have said "found out her daughter was pregnant AGAIN". First there was Trek with the coverup, now Tripp. It's common knowledge up in Wasilla who was pregnat and who wasn't and who the father of the first baby is.

I'm appalled at the majority of the comments about this article. If these people feel that the best thing for them is to have this baby and deal wiht the hardships, who the hell are you to tell them this is wrong or backwards, or anything else. Personally, I think it takes a lot more courage to have the baby and raise it than to abort it. That's the easy way out. I also don't believe their lives are ruined. I believe they are hard working people who will lovingly raise their child, get their HS diplomas and live a normal life. My guess is most of the venom in the comments are from pro-choice zealots who can't stand this kind of story; where somoen decides to have a baby despite having the deck stacked against them. Maybe it makes you feel less guilty about your abortion(s) if everyone else chooses the same way out?

WOW!! These comments tell me all I need to know about you all! Palin's not even allowed to be a proud Grandma.

There was no birth on the day they allege. All the reports are based merely on a single telephone statement by Sarah's aunt to People magazine. You see how easy it was for them to wrap up the Bristol-Sarah-Trig triangle? People really are easily duped.

Given the current divorce rate, Bristol and Levi have as good a chance of a lasting marriage as anyone. Liberals can't stand when Conservatives "walk the talk." Sarah Palin did this by not aborting her Down's baby and she set a good example for her daughter! Doing the right thing is RARELY easy. Way to go Palins!
