President Obama will continue honoring Abraham Lincoln, his political hero, with a visit later this month to mark the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.

The White House announced today that on Feb. 12, Obama will attend a commemoration and speak at a banquet in Springfield, Ill.

Obama announced his presidential bid at the old Illinois state capitol, retraced part of Lincoln's whistlestop tour to Washington, held a pre-inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and used the same bible for his formal swearing-in.

He has also echoed some of Lincoln's language in calling for the country to unite at a time of crisis, and emulated Lincoln, bringing former rivals into his inner circle.
