Limbaugh speaks up, riles up both Democrats and Republicans

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor March 2, 2009 06:22 PM

Rush Limbaugh apparently wants to be the voice of the Republican Party as it tries to recover from the November elections.

And Democrats are only too happy to oblige, considering the conservative talk show host a sure-fire way to fire up their base.

Limbaugh gave a stem-winder of a speech Saturday -- complete with chest thumping and fist bumps -- imploring conservatives to stand by their principles and urging them not to listen to those who say the GOP has to become more moderate to regain power.

Limbaugh, who also threw his weight around at several points during the campaign, made no apologies for his biting criticism of President Obama, including telling his listeners on his radio show in January that "I hope he fails."

"What is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?" Limbaugh said at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel on Sunday called Limbaugh " the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican party, and he has been up front about what he views, and hasn't stepped back from that, which is he hopes for failure."

"He said it, and I compliment him on his honesty," Emanuel said on CBS's "Face the Nation." "But that's their philosophy that's enunciated by Rush Limbaugh and I think that's the wrong philosophy for America."

Representative Ron Paul of Texas, who sought the Republican nomination last year, said that Limbaugh has a strong message, but warned that "it's pretty sad" that the GOP is so starved for leadership that it is looking to a talk show host.

Paul also cautioned that it could play into Democrats' hands.

"He does say the right things now. And I think a lot of people like to hear what he's saying, but I think it's also a little bit polarizing and confrontational, and I think that's why the Democrats are bragging that Limbaugh now speaks for the Republicans. So I guess the Democrats think it's to their advantage if he's leading the charge," Paul said today on CNN's "American Morning."

"But he really didn't broaden the base. I mean, it's still very narrow, and that is why some of us would like to see an approach that would emphasize personal liberties and civil liberties, looking at the drug war. And certainly looking at foreign policy," Paul added. "And in those areas, it's really the old Republican Party, because even Limbaugh was a strong supporter of Bush. So, he doesn't have anything new either when it comes to, you know, bringing our troops home and not expanding the war in Afghanistan, and talking about, you know, the danger to our personal liberties and our privacies. So, there is a group of us that would like to appeal somewhat differently to the Republican base and, as a matter of fact, to the American people. That's what is really important."

Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee who is trying to diversify the party, also rejected the idea of Limbaugh as the leader of the GOP/

"No, he's not," Steele said on CNN's "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" on Saturday night.
"I'm the de facto leader of the Republican Party," Steele said. "Let's put it into context here. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment."

Steele went on to say that Limbaugh's show is sometimes "incendiary. Yes, it's ugly."

Steele said he's continuing his efforts to reshape the party. "What I'm saying is the brand needs help," he said. "The brand needs work. There's no doubt about that. I'm not trying to sell it. What I'm trying to make it is valuable and something that people can look at and consider, and I think that we do have something to say on some very serious issues that touch a lot of people on empowerment and ownership and opportunity, and I'm going to make sure we say it. And that's the point."

UPDATE: On his show today, Limbaugh fired back at Steele, suggesting that he was being used by the liberal media.

"Why do you claim to lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it President Obama succeeds?" Limbaugh asked. "I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda. I have to conclude that he does because he attacks me for wanting it to fail."

UPDATE: Now, Steele is apologizing to Limbaugh. "My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” the RNC chairman told Politico. "I was maybe a little bit inarticulate.…There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”

Asked about Limbaugh's comments, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said he had "doubled down" on his January comments.

At his daily briefing, Gibbs said the question should be posed to Republicans: "Do they want to see the president's economic agenda fail?"

Gibbs wondered aloud what would have happened if the shoe had been on the other foot during the Bush administration, and a liberal radio host had publicly hoped for his economic policies to fail.

Americans United for Change, a coalition of progressive and labor groups that used Limbaugh in a web ad, is now using his CPAC remarks as part of fund-raising appeal.

"Rooting for President Obama's economic plan to fail means rooting for more people to lose their jobs. It means rooting for more families to lose their homes. It means rooting for more families to lose their health care and their retirement security," the group said. "It means rooting against the American people and rooting against the strong future of our country."

I' as many of people' including some democrates, agree with Rush L.. Hes very informative and is fighting for his country . America needs someone like that now. He has no hidden agenda. Just tells it like it is. You would think people would want that right now after so many lies and deceptions. As we know after this huge stimulas pork package, we cant even count on our congressmen or representatives to do right by us. After all they do work for us. We pay their salaries and they dont even care about our openions. Also. I heard that congress just gave thereselves a raise as we take pay-cuts or are laid off. What about that!

Right now Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are the best thing to happen to the Democratic party. It is in Rush's best interest for the country to be divided and for the country to fail. Fortunately, there appears to be more Republicans that are recognizing this. In addition, as long as Palin is involved in any presidential election the Democrats will never lose no matter what they do. The republicans need to take the party back from the religious right to get back on track.

You know, I'm really sick of all the trumped up, phony nonsense coming from the right. I'm tired of pointless, nonsensical debates between Dems and Reps. I'm tired of our national debates on the critical issues of our generation amounting to us throwing food at each other, instead of having real, detailed, reasonable discussions of how the heck to straighten out this mess. I'm sick of the same old ideological warfare that smacks of hypocrisy to the highest degree. I'm tired of pandering and sound bites and fodder for the ignorant who don't really care enough to inform themselves.

During the election, we, as a Nation, really had some reasonable, thoughtful, detailed discussions about ISSUES. Now it's just a national insult contest. It makes me sick.

Perhaps that's the idea. If people get sick of listening, they tune out and just don't care anymore, then the country can be taken over again by people who are only in it for their own enrichment and couldn't give a rat's rear about the American people. An

The Republicans should take real good look at their new hero. I watched his speech last week and, he looked and acted like he was high on something, This man has some real issues. A few years ago his biography was aired on a cable channel and it was not flattering. I am sure this will be coming around again sometime in the near future. Cong. Ron Paul is right.

I'm actually surprised by the GOP silence in response to this. I'd expect a Republican to come out and disavow themselves from wishing foreclosures, stock market crashes, and economic disaster on the country. This is deplorable coming from Rush, but the fact that the Republican party hasn't condemned his unpatriotic and dangerous attitude is just scary. We have troops in a two-front war, an economic crisis that rivals the Great Depression, and a Republican Party that hopes our president will fail in trying to solve the problems. Do they intend to undermine our national well-being? Scary.

Rush doesn't understand that a big reason people turn away from the Repub party is because they are NOT the party of individual liberties. They are the party of warrantless survelience, torture, abridgement of the rights of reproductive privacy. They are the party of government control of your personal life.

So having Rush as their spokesperson makes the case for the Dems. It is very sad if they don't realize it.

Since Bush and the Conservatives failed US for 8 years, can't expect to hear solutions, or anything of significants, from their Party or Rush.. Misery loves company.. Instead of cover ups, like the Bush Administration achieved using scare tactics, fraud, greed and dishonesty, Obama's openingly commuicating and trying to turn this tanked economy around.. His plan may not be perfect, nothing on earth is, or may not be what we want, yet i'd rather have some plan of action then a lot of Conservative lip service with no real solutions at all.. From my lips to God's ear, hope Obama succeed and Rush becomes the miserable failure..

Why would the Democrats won't to revisit the Fairness Doctrine and try to silence him???

I wish everyone would just take a deep breath and listen to what Rush was saying about hoping President Obama fails. He doesn't want our President to fail, he wants his liberal policies and push for big brother government to fail. I am really tired of people talking about something they have never listened to. All of his transcripts are available on his website. Try reading what he says before you start making judgements. I don't want the President to personally fail, just his dangerous policies and spending our money to bail out failures. You can blame Bush all you want. It is always easy to blame the last guy in office. Before you start praising Obama, how about we wait and see how he does. My gosh, he hasn't accomplished anything yet except spend "trillions" of dollars.

This is my favorite part of Rush's speech:

"We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. Liberty, Freedom. And the pursuit of happiness."

Of course, the preamble to the Constitution doesn't say anything like that; you can look it up. Much as Rush claims to "revere" the Constitution, he's evidently never read it. He is quoting from the Declaration of Independence and it's not a minor mistake. The Constitution is the foundation of American law and it was no accident that "the Creator" was left out of it. Not because the Founders didn't believe in God, but because they had too much respect for religion to allow it to be used as a political battering ram. If they'd lived to see a man like Rush Limbaugh become a public oracle, they would have petitioned for re-admission to Britain.

Thanks to Dr. Paul for being yet again the only voice of reason. Even though the current admin can stand up and look nice and speak nice-isms, and even though Rush can communicate the Republican's sheer displeasure at their loss, both of the main parties are playing the same game, and people who hold true Americanism (as a philosophy, not as a bandwagon decision) agree the 2 party system is failing the entire country.
Thanks again Dr. Paul!!!

As a now devout Democrat it fill smy heart with joy to see Rush be kngihted by the Republicans. The coalition that President OBAMA has forged of women voters, hispanics, african-americans,youth, and yes the higher educated among us cannot be toppled anytime in the foreseeable future. The Republican tent can soon be reduced to a pup tent that Jindal, pailin, Rush, Cantor and a couple of other extremists share. America made the right decision in November and we are now led by a man and team with integrity and intellect what a concept. OBAMANOS!

As long as the GOP continues its insincere rhetoric about the importance of limited, constitutional federal government and sneer at true statesmen within their own ranks like Ron Paul, they are doomed to failure. Both major parties currently champion unconstitutional, large federal government and weak states' rights, so we will have a very bleak outlook for the foreseeable future as long as they are in charge.

Great Rush, you go right ahead and be the voice. And, republican party you go right ahead and let him lead. His ultra conserative views are just what the party needs to push themselves deeper into the pit of doom they are digging. This under-educated radio talk guy has blabbed his way to the top of a party in shambles with his limp school-yard bully tactics of name-calling, talking in silly voices, and polarizing the stupid with insidious repetitions of "It's us against them, folks." How about when he and a few male friends were caught on a private plane with a case of condoms and Viagra, returning from Honduras? Hmmm, I wonder what they were doing down there trying to expand the conservative base? Thinking conservatives know that he is a radical who is ranting at the wind. We Americans are better than this. As a moderate Democrat, I hafta say, I love tuning in to Rush Limbaugh every day. Listening to him and his listeners talk is like reading Dr. Lewis Carroll - a mix-mash of words that are so unplausible or made up they are hilarious! I could listen to this guy all day, because I know he knows that things such as true-socialism is not even a remote possibility.

And the people who throw around the terms Socialism and communism are latching on to traditional fear words over trying to understand. This economical melt-down doesn't have a singular demon, as 9/11 did, but make no mistake, it's in every way, as serious. This country lined up behind Bush and gave him the benefit of the doubt for over four years. Heck, I'd be content with letting the Obama get two years -- he is surrounding himself with economic advisers who are both beyond reproach and have been tried and true during the U.S.'s great economic times.

This country will forever go back and forth -- I count on it. I'm not crazy enough to think my idealogy has all the right answers, just what I perceive as more of them. I'll always want GOPers in the mix -- I like some of their ideas a lot.

Rush is funny because he's a zealot who - if he spoke in anapestic tetrameter, may give Dr. Seuss a run for his money in the ways of whimsy.

Not one single idea or solution. Just a repetition of tired ideological insults and sound bite labels. What a "beautiful goose egg" for the Republicans. I have listened to Rush since the beginning when the audience was loaded with California Democrats that shouted over him and had to be ejected so the show could continue. I believe it was after that that Rush decided to or his producers decided to only allow a dignified, well dressed audience of Rush Limbaugh fans into his television studio show. Great decision, the media has their say and being of a mostly Democrat viewpoint they serve their purpose pressing their viewpoint. This show is for everyone!

It is easy to see why Rush is so popular because though we may not agree with him on all his talking points he is entertainment and he infuriates those who only believe there is one viewpoint and one party in this country. That is his significance--he makes the Democrats angry (which is not hard as evidenced by their behavior) because they don’t like having someone question them—they might feel they are not up to his challenge.

Listen to this, Rush is the "opposing view" so severely lacking in this country. He is a blessing to the country. You can make all the noise you want but you don't have the very popular radio program and the success Rush has. Now, if you like to live in a world where the media gives a pass and bows to a political party then you just don’t have much faith in your own values; you must feel your values can’t stand up to question (Which is why Air America failed to excite anyone).

wow - what a bunch of kool aid drinkers we have in America. First I will say I am glad Obama won, not becaaaaue of the way he will screw America an many future generations, but because i nver have to here that black Americans are somehow held back - we now have a half black president, this prove the country is fair. As for his politics it is clearly not a change - and as for the tax plan - Americans will see, he may cut your income tax, which many pay very little, but you will see a huge tax increase for lots of stuff you buy. please keep in mind my ccorporation does not pay taxes - No corporation pays taxes - we simply collect it from the people and pass it to the goverment. Every time some politician promises to raise taxes on the corporations please keep in mind this is a way to make the kool aid drinkers feel better, anyone who thinks about it know how it reallllly works. Raise the gas tax and what happens? The price goes up at the pump. There is no such thing as not taxing people and just taxing the corps. This is so simple it is funny to watch the crowds roar with approvale when obama promises to raise tax no the corps but not the "average american" Please wake up, before it is to late.

Have any of you any idea of the type of political debate that the USA has had since before its founding? If you think it is mean politics now... hahaha! Its nothing compared to what it was like in the 1700s and 1800s. Do a little research. As far as sitting down to "reasonably" discuss the issues. This country has always had an argumentative political process. Its never been perfect, but its done us pretty good for many years. As far as the current president is concerned... Think of how much you supported him when you're complaining of how high taxes are in you and your children's future when you're paying for his profligate spending now.

Not because the Founders didn't believe in God, but because they had too much respect for religion to allow it to be used as a political battering ram. Since Bimball has been promoted to Bus driver by Murdock he has driven the Bus off a cliff several times (somehow he lives every time) and will continue to drive bus loads of simpleton dildo heads off these same cliffs until they are all gone
Mr. Bimball is in fact a double agent helping the Demo's destroy the radical Bastards.....

Rush is just a temporary figurehead or focal point for frustrated conservatives. The Republicans abandoned conservatism under Bush. McCain was a horrible candidate. So the real conservatives who believe in smaller government, lower taxes, balancing the budget, defending the country and its borders are pissed off at the Republican Party. BUsh didn't get to 25% in the polls just by irritating liberals.

Obama is taking the country from the toilet and into the sewer. Rush wants him to fail because he believes that he is taking the country the wrong way. Unlike Democrats like Durban, Kennedy, Schumer, Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, etc. whose lies put party and politics ahead of country for the last 8 years, Rush is telling the truth about Obama and his dreadful economic policies that are going to pull this nation into an economic disaster.

What Rush, like him or not, said is exactly what millions of Americans and Republicans are too afraid to say. Rush articulated in a short speech the feelings many. The hypocrisy of the left is astounding; for 8 years they fought to defeat bush at every turn, fought for and declared the war in Iraq lost, voted for budgets they now criticize. Do you believe any of the libs including the mainstream media wanted Bush to succeed? BS! If he had succeeded Obama would be missing in action from his congressional duties as they were before he was elected president. I hope he fails as well IF he wants to socialize this great country, if he wants to provide more entitlements to those who need to take responsibility for their own actions; if he wants to demonize business and the entrepreneurs who create the jobs he is so fond of talking about; if he wants to create class warfare. Fail he will and the sooner the better. And for those fools who keep saying WE WON…let me mention two words, Jimmy Carter!

What the liberal left can't stand is the bright white light of truth. They can't stand it. PERIOD. What he wants to fail is Obama's policies and I agree with him 100%. Obama can succeed as an academic if he wants, but his policies undermine the very footings of this great country. No longer will hard work be rewarded with the fruits of their labors, but to re-distribute that wealth. I own two businesses and it makes me sick that for every dollar I make over $250K I have to give over 50-60% of it away in taxes to the Federal and State Governments. I can tell you this. I will be hording my money. I won't be hiring anyone during Obama's reign of terror. I won't be investing in any additional equipment, and my employees will not be getting any raises. If you have a problem with that, you can thank Obama and his policies.

One of two things is clear about the comments to this article and Democrat response to Rush Limbaugh in general:

1 They have never listened to Rush. Not only are literally none of the long list of hate filled ad hominem attacks warranted, Rush is the sterling example of civility and grace that the left should consider emulating. For example, Franken, the wannabe Senator from Minnesota/New York might have followed this example in the highly uncivil book he wrote. Air America might have considered emulating Rush before Franken and other snarky leftists drove it into the ground. Rush's enormous popularity is largely a direct result of his civility and genuine decency. To claim otherwise is simply to lie.

2 They realize that Rush is an honest conservative in the mold of Reagan and Buckley and want to marginalize his influence in politics. This is a fair ambition, but the method just illustrates the grasping overfed sense of entitlement on the left.

While I am not a Republican ( I am a Libertarian leaning, registered Democrat), I recognize the lower forms of life in the political cesspool. Rush is not among them, snarky Democrat commentators clearly are. In the interest of full disclosure, I support separation of the U.S. into two countries, leaving the left to immediately create the socialist utopia they dream of - while freeing the producers in capitalism from the grasping, greedy hands of a malevolent and too powerful government.

Rush Limbaugh is to politics as a sports writer is to sports. Mr. Limbaugh has the luxury of sitting back in his palace and stirring up the masses. What the GOP fails to realize is that Mr. Limbaugh turns on his level of ad revenue. If his "conservative" base were no longer supporting his radio show, he'd quickly become the new voice of the non-conservative rest-of-the-nation so we'd listen to his show and buy his sponsors products. Rush serves 1 purpose- his own wallet. As long as he can get like minded folk to listen to his show, he'll continue to spout his diatribe and laugh all the way to the bank while you sit and wonder what happened to your job/home/bank account/credit score.

Folks in the GOP- stop listening to this drug addled separatist or be continued to be voted out of office. I think the collective intellegence of this nation is rising and we're seeing and realizing yes- our government can perform more funtions than paving roads and hiring firefighters and that yes, our government can provide for us and spend our tax dollars on us so that they benefit us. What are we paying for anyway? Think about that one folks.

What short memory democrats have.

Harry Reid: "The war is lost". and countless other statments that were intended to undermine the presidency of George W Bush. How many times did the press allow democrats to say that Bush stole the election. The mass media is bought and paid for by the democrats and has lost all objectivity. The media is so in love with the current President that they drool over his every word and talk of chills running up their legs when he speaks.

The current group of democrats in Congress and the new President seek to destroy capitalism, the principles of the founding fathers and the Constitution. The goal of the media, the democrats and the President is to transform America into a clone of France and other European Socialist countries. The moral and social decay of Western Europe is apalling. Secular Humansit / the Progressives seek to destory individual liberties and replace it with government control. The progressives should be more careful. The loss of individual rights and power vested to the government for "issues" that progressives seek will one day be truned around and take away individual liberties that you seek to preserve. The loss of individual liberties and the destruction of capitalism is not and never will be in the best interst of America or any country.

The progressives and their willing enablers in the media are driving America to the depth of debauchery that sank the Roman Empire. An honest media would compare the social and moral corruption of Rome against the desires of Progressives and see how history treats the Progressive's goals. Those who fail to learn from history will suffer from hisory's failures.

It seems like the majority of the comments are from leftist liberals who can't stand an opinion from a conservative American who believes the president is wrong, is heading this country in the wrong direction and who will eventually lead the U.S.
toward being a socialist nation. Rush is right and has as much right to say the president is wrong as liberals did when they criticized President Bush all the time he was in office as being the wrong person for the job. I too believe the current
president is the wrong person for the oval office. I also believe his is getting wrong advice from those he has appointed. Our country will continue to suffer for it.

For Kevoh and other Limburgers, although there are serious concerns about the concentration of the print and broadcast media in the hands of people with enough money to own multiple outlets all over the country (and to give air time to shills and hacks who are eager to lick the hand that feeds them), the only people talking about the "Fairness doctrine" are the Republicans, although now that the Republicans have expressed their concern that voices other than the owners of America and the despoilers of traditional American values might be heard, some Democrats have stated that it WOULD be nice if at least some of the airwaves, which belong to the public, were actually used to benefit the public interest.

One other thing that Bah Humbug is good at -- aside from attempting to trash whatever non-Republican may be president -- is in making or regurgitating things up as he goes along -- such as the fake return of the Fairness Doctrine, the fake Nancy Pelosi mouse, the fake high-speed train between Disneyland and Las Vegas -- and then in attacking people who point out that, to be charitable, he has his facts wrong or, to be honest, he's lying and lying intentionally.

This is even apart from the desire he feels, a desire that I am sure Osama bin Laden and our other enemies hold along with him, that the President of the United States fail in his efforts to rescue well over a quarter-billion Americans from the mess that the people that Rush Limbaugh, in his own words, "carried water for."

Given the deservedly high contempt in which W's past followers now hold George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh is a fitting successor at presiding over the demise of the Republican Party.

Rush loves you all. But, in my opinion, Rush gets a bad rap and calling him a "hater" or the Republicans "haters" is just ridiculous. Like Rush said in his speech (which I doubt seriously, any of you read) is that “It is about control.” One of the ways you like to control is by trying to put us on the defensive.

It is my firm belief that this attack is nothing more than manipulation. Rush is on to you when he says "the Democratic party is about control...and Obama is about control." He goes on to say that Obama doesn't mind spending money that is not his and he never plans on repaying. He just wants control. Obama stated long ago that he "always [knew] he wanted a career in politics." His brother in law told him to keep that to himself if Obama planned on making a good impression on his Mother-in-law when he was first introduced.

So, he is a Lawyer, a career politician, and he loves control and manipulation. He is practiced and don't be fooled. That polish he has can't come from the heart. As Rush recently said, "I don't speak from a teleprompter. What I say comes from my heart." I guess Rush must have some kind of heart because he wants America to exceed not just President, Obama, and his social engineering. And that is why Rush says he wants Obama to fail because his long held plans are not for building a country, they are plans to build a long line. You see ( and Rush says it best) Obama sees America as "one big soup kitchen." Obama's plan is nothing more than Socialism and I too along with million others believe that Obama's intentions are either mislead or he is the Man you should be calling a "hater." Because it is Obama that is bringing back the welfare state. It is Obama, not Rush, that wants the government to stick it’s big nose everywhere. Obama wants the government in your living room, and comfortably enjoying your sofa. He wants you to believe he is the one who knows best where your money should go and what should be done with it. And he knows as well as anyone that taxing the rich “as if he was punishing achievement” always garners less government income due to a shrinking economy and a lower investment base. I hope Obama fails big time.

Rush Limbaugh is the "voice" of the GOP? How sad is that? A man kept out of Viet Nam by a cyst on his butt, known to be hooked on various medications, who stated days into Obama's presidency that he wanted Obama to fail is a great voice. But if that's what the Republicans want, who am I to say that he's not the voice of the party? Personally I never wanted Bush to fail overall, that's bad for the country, though I did want some of his initiatives to fail, which many of them did.

For those of you blaming Obama for the economy today, STOP and grow a brain. The economy's been tanking for years, Bush did nothing to stop it. We've tried just cutting taxes, it didn't work. Never mind, most of you let Rush do your thinking for you anyway.

Part of me is happy to see this; it will hurry the demise of the Republican Party. They have (in my lifetime anyways) always put party above country and this is bad for America. But part of me worries, as Democracy only works with multiple (viable) parties. I don't trust the Democrats much more than the Republicans.
Mostly I am glad to see Ron Paul staying relevant. He was the best the Republicans had to offer and could have won the election and saved the party had he gotten the nomination. The problem is Ron is one of the last true conservatives left in the party and no one recognizes him for what he is (the neo-cons just think he is crazy). I really hope he switches back to the Libertarian party and breathes some life into that organization. The difference between the Democratic and Republican parties is that one wants to grow government deficits by 18% a year and one wants to grow government deficits by 16% a year. The Libertarian party would be a much more responsible opposition than the Republicans and would do a much better job of keeping the Democrats in check. What they really lack is a strong national leader. I wish Ron would be that guy.

I am amazed at the double standard that the news media applies to Mr. Limbaugh. If a liberal had made the comment that "they hoped George Bush's war in Iraq" they would be labeled a traitor. Here we are in the worst economic crisis of the moderen era and Limbaugh "hopes" that an attempt to at least mitigate it fails. This is a blantantly unpatriotic statement. It is fair game for him to question the policy and even doubt that it will work. But to "hope it fails" shows an a state of mind that one is both unbalanced and unpatriotic. Sunny1, What news program are you listening to? Just what do you think of Barney Frank? Is he your hero?!! I guess he has no blame? What about Clinton, no fault of his?? Give me a break. There is no hiding this nonsense. You can not even believe Bush is to blaim for a war that the democrats asked for long before:
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003 'D' stands for Democrat

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force-- if necessary—to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.” - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002 'D' stands for Democrat

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.” - Letter to President Clinton, signed by Senators Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Daschle (D-SD), John F. Kerry ( D - MA), and others Oct. 9, 1998 'D' stands for Democrat

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.” - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002 'D' stands for Democrat

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country… Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.” - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 We all know Gore was a Democrat--he was Clinton's Vice President.
