Obama calls the Huskies
WASHINGTON -- President Obama's basketball jones came to the surface again yesterday during his call to congratulate Coach Geno Auriemma of the University of Conneticut women's basketball team, which won the NCAA national championship Tuesday night.
“The President congratulated Coach Auriemma on his team's undefeated year and was impressed to learn that UConn had only one senior who started in the title game," according to a White House statement released yesterday.
"Coach Auriemma put [U.Conn.] center Tina Charles on the phone, and the President congratulated her on a great game and for going 11 for 13 from the floor, but jokingly asked what happened with the other two shots.
"The President told Coach Auriemma that he’s looking forward to seeing him and the rest of the Huskies at the White House,” according to the statement.
On Tuesday, aboard Air Force One, Obama called University of North Carolina Coach Roy Williams, whose Tarheels won the men's championship Monday night.
