GOP take on Obama's spending spree
Republicans' latest broadside against President Obama is a satiric version of those "priceless" ads for Mastercard.
The new web ad from the Republican National Committee suggests what has been on the president's shopping list lately: $2,000 for new first dog Bo and $500 for a courtside seat at an NBA game.
But then the announcer adds, $787 billion in a "payback to your political cronies," referring to the economic stimulus package that only three Republicans in Congress supported.
"A cool new photo for your website? $328,000," the narrator says, referring to the "Scare Force One" shot of the presidential plane flying over the Statue of Liberty that Obama apologized for and that cost a White House aide his job last week.
The announcer concludes: "Drowning your country in debt? Priceless. There are some things your tax money shouldn't buy. But that's not going to stop him from trying."

Ok, that's pretty funny. Slightly funnier even than the GOP suddenly rediscovering fiscal conservatism now that there's an even bigger spender than Bush in the White House...
wonder how long it will take before MasterCard sues the GOP...
I love it. Our tax dollars at work. And our children's tax dollars and their children's tax dollars and so on...
Wow, did the Republicans speak up when Bush changed a surplus to a deficit?
Did they speak up when Reagan created huge deficits in the 80's?
Great Ad!
Whats priceless is the GOPs hypocrisy!
Great ad... and so on the mark.
Might be on the mark but where was their concern under Bush? Its not geniune, its political and if this were McCain spending all this money, it would be fine. How about they come up with an alternative idea....oh thats right. They don't have one. NEXT!
Okay, so Bush started his term with a record surplus and left us with a record deficit. He left the financial markets to self-regulate, resulting in a rash of bailouts and failures. Oh, and then there's the Iraq war and this recession thing we're all suffering through. But, Republicans being Republicans, they're trying to pin it all on Obama, who's been in office about three months. That's not priceless -- it's shameless.
Reagan spent on the military during the Cold War. That is understandable. He wasn't trying to establish a Big Government to daddy all the welfare babies.
Anyway, before I start my Astroturf Campaign of political dissent, can someone tell me whether burning the effigy of Barack Obama is a hate crime? Wouldn't want to end up in the slammer, you know.
I'm so sad to see our children having to pay something that benefits America. They should be paying for our wars in Iraq and my $2 gas. Anything less is unpatriotic and trust me, I'm a patriot. I wear a flag pin on my lapel.
It can't be considered Republican Hypocrisy anymore, because the Democratic Party deficits are 3 times higher than the highest Republican deficit. By comparison Republicans are still more fiscally conservative. Obama himself has promoted the idea that bringing the deficit back down to the Bush levels, a measly half a trillion per year, will be a major accomplishment of his administration. But I don't think any fiscal conservative can be happy with either party's record. Time for Independents to sweep away the party factions.
Cost of Iraq War - $669,000,000,000
Cost of War in Afghanistan - $188,000,000,000
Expanding the US Government to Unprecendented Levels - Trillions
Number of wasted lives including the deaths of thousands of US soldiers, and even more civilians - 1,000,000+
Wasting $$$ on such a hypocritical ad - $10,000
The Republican Party, and their stooges even having the nerve and gall to call any liberal wasteful - Priceless
Humorous, but they seem to forget that all those purchases like dogs and tickets are paid out of Obama's pocket, not the tax payers. And with things like photo-ops, I highly doubt that Obama even had a clue it was going on.
But once again, its a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
So when the Democrats put out an ad, it is taken at this blog as gospel, whe the Republicans do it it is an attack.
Why not just admit your bias? It's not that your bias that is a problem, it's the fact that you don't think you are that is the problem.
Both parties are to blame for the bankruptcy of the country. DON'T RE-ELECT ANYONE. It is time for a new fiscally responsible party to emerge. Support it when it does.
What a distraction? Can't these morons just focus on running the country instead of whining? How hard is it to just shut up and deal with things? It's what I have to do every day of my life. Since when did we elect politicians to complain?
At least Obama is spending on the county's infrastucture - Bush was spending on gun pwder and torture in a ill thought out war. Were were the creators of this ad when W was running up record-breaking deficits??
This is serios and effective. Its about time GOP start doing add like this. Good job.
Number 13. Well said!
The national debt was $5.727 trillion when Bush took office, and $9.849 trillion when he left. The GOP didn't care much then.
Democrats want government to oversee financial markets and healthcare? They couldn't oversee the office from within the White House that supported and approved the now famous Air Force 1 photoshoot flyover of NY.
Wheels are spinning.
Does the GOP actually think I'm laughing with them and not at them? Seriously? The party of Michael Steele, Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh? Heh.
It's not quite so funny as the "Survivor" parody, but it has its moments. Funny how the GOP got fiscally conservative again, isn't it?
Ah - Republican humor is just so creative and funny... Oooh boy! That was a knee slapper!
Oscarbozach:
We do have a good idea.....not only Balance the Budget but a plan (over 20-25 years) to PAY OFF THE NATIONAL DEBT!
I think its called two wars...stop balming just Bush, Congress appropriates Dollars. Pelosi and Reid are idiots!
I'm 100% certain, without any doubt whatsoever that no matter how much the Bush Administration spent, a Democratic president over those same 8 years would have spent an ungodly amount more. No question about it! It's how they feed their social welfare programs that help destroy the initiative that made this country great.
Anytime you want to stop making excuses for Obama and hold him accountable (and let go of Bush bashing for crying out loud)... that would be great, thanks.
Earth to Obats: Bush is no longer in office. I repeat, Bush is no longer in office.
Now try defending your President.
Priceless.
And now that the humor is over, back to your regularly scheduled whine. Whine on, wingnuts.
When are you people going to realize that the republicans and democrats are equally guilty of instituting failed policies and driving this country down the drain? This incessant partisan bickering is pointless. In the end, it's the bankers, who are in the politicians back pockets, that rule the world. Our only hope is to vote these corrupt clowns out of office. Unfortunately we have too few honest politicians to take their places.
I once claimed that the word "Limbaugh" in old Anglo Saxon connoted "asshole." Now I must also claim that the letters GOP also connote "dumb asses".
lol...nice job GOP for making an ad mocking the Messiah. that crazy jig is spending the nation's wealth on foolishness. and how is appointing a "woman or hispanic" not completely disciminatory. what if someone said: make sure it's a white guy. lib fascists make me sick. obama is making such a mess of the US it will be fun to watch the next 3 yrs as the country descends into chaos. and that evil hag pelosi is a liar. ha ha ha libs i laugh at your silly messiah and can't wait for him to continue to FAIL!!!
Too effectively written and persuasive, huh, Foon?
Republicans, please stop the whinning! President Obama pays for his own tickets and also, he doesn't seek photo ops as has been falsely stated on these blogs. He is a dignified man with class and smarts. Republican HATERS, lick your wounds and shut the hell up! The economic ills will be revived by the Obama administration policies. It will take time, but hopefully, the country will benefit greatly from his leadership.
LOL! Fantastic!
It's about time the GOP starts hitting Obama. His spending is outrageous. $1.8 trillion deficits are simply not acceptable. When that number came out, it got everyone's attention.
I think it's a great advertisement. To those that consistently and constantly bring up Bush: you need to get real. While, yes, Bush did blow up the deficit it wasn't spent on entitlement programs and other things that will grow government infinitely. It was spent on national security, including, yes, the wars. Maybe it wasn't the right decision to go to war in hindsight but spending money on national security is way better than destroying this country's future by giving it away to the lazy and incompetent.
And just in case you didn't know, Bush is out of office and the Republicans have been out of office for 2+ years. Time to own up and take some responsiblity
I love all of these Republicans whining about "our children and grandchildrens' future". Since when have Republicans ever given a hoot about my children, let alone my grandchildren? They certainly didn't when they started running up budget deficits in the 80's, and they absolutely didn't during the last eight years.
GOP = borrow and spend. We promise you everything and you don't have to pay for it!
Joe Plumber - You wrote nice job GOP.. What nice job are you referring to? The GOP's childish rants and deceptive stories, fostering hate, paranoia and lies! Also, just so you know, choosing a woman or hispanic is not discriminatory... White men have been doing what they so please for hundreds of years, expecially in the US and have had is easy all those years. Our great society (USA) is made up of different races and ethnicity. The Supreme Court should reflect that diversity. Sorry you still have blinders on!!! Wake up and see the color of the rainbow.
People who still choose to refer to President Obama as "your Messiah" look ridiculously pathetic and ignorant. How many hours of Glenn Beck and Hannity do you watch in a day?
Well it is about time the GOP has come out swinging. Maybe in time a majority of people will open their eyes fully to see where we are heading as a nation...The only way now appears in your pocketbooks. Between the Federal Government's new programs being rammed through by a one party system with no oversight or controls....Along with the individual states now imposing further Tax, fee's and fines on public...Look to California as to what is coming your way folks. I think the picture also could have mentioned those 150 pizza's flown into DC for Barack and friends.....Hey thats fair is it not?
Talk about a bunch of sore losers. The Republicans need to stop whining, look at the Bush and Regan records (and the Republican Congress' record) and do some constructive compromising for a change. If the Republicans had not run up the deficit, gotten us into two wars and not dropped the ball, this country would not be in such a fiscal mess.
You lost the White House and Congress, so get over yourselves, grow up and do something constructive instead of devisive.
Excellent ad.
These Obots that call Republicans hypocrites for complaining about Obama's spending ought to get some facts straight. Yes, the Republicans did spend alot of money. But if deficits and debt are a bad thing why would I be pleased with Obama? His own figures showing him adding more to the national debt than ALL previous Presidents COMBINED!
So if you are concerned about government debt then you must reject Obama's policies. If not then please do not lecture us about spending because you have LESS credibility than any Republican on the face of the earth.
I'm so happy to see that the GOP is getting dumber by the minute. Keep up the good work!
Could it be the emperor has no clothes? Scare Force One Photo Op never happened under Bush, Obama is so excited by his really cool ride that he wanted these outrageously expensive photo's to give to his friends.
Obama's budget will destroy our economy for generations to come
100KISLOWERMIDDLECLASS WROTE: We do have a good idea.....not only Balance the Budget but a plan (over 20-25 years) to PAY OFF THE NATIONAL DEBT!
100KISLOWERMIDDLECLASS, you realize that the Chinese thinks that Obama is bankrupting America during his first term. So if the Democrat plan to pay off the national debt is to do it through receivership... you might be right.
TheGOP never a constructive idea,,,,
#26, the O has a plan to pay off the national dept. Wow, nobody ever thought of that before.
#39, GOP= borrow and spend. Get your head out of the kool aide bottle quick. There is still time.
The mess that Bush made and its influence on the country, as well as the rest of the world, unfortunately did not end with his presidency.
I'm sure that Obama would have preferred NOT to spend the amounts that he's needed to, but you do not get to choose what you inherit.
I agree with the sentiment of voting out the dead wood. When people keep reelecting the same people, why are they surprised when those same people keep acting the same way they always have? Terms limits for all is not a bad idea...
nice production quality!
what is that, Windows Movie Maker???
great stuff!
@RUserious,
How can you expect Republicans to go along with policies that are diametrically opposed to their governing principles? We're lucky to have conservatives in both parties beginning to question what has been going on in these few short months. Obama, according to polls, is the Great Divider. His policies are polarizing people (as if the board here isn't evidence enough) while his mouth speaks in platitudes and inclusive language. Two-faced, indeed. From the sound of it, you'd be perfectly happy to sit back and let Obama spend us into China's hands at the expense of several future generations. You just sound angry and ignoratn. A bad combination.
Lets take a quick look at some of the Republican CRY BABIES rhetorics...Obama is creating more depts for our children and grand children. 1. Since when did the Republicans started to care about OUR CHILDREN and Grand Children? During the Bush administration, home prices Sky Rocketed, Cost of living Sky Rocketed, Medical Care Sky Rocketed, tuition Sky Rocketed, MORE JAILS built with the so called notion of controlling the Crime/DRUG TRADE. Who were the benefactors?? Republican Governors, business men, Bankers, Jugdes, Wall Street Creedy Money managers and the republicans still complain. Where were the children then?
what is the point of this commercial? seems like a waste of time, money and effort. he has already been elected. maybe they should have waited to make this until he decides if he is going to run again...
Did you hear Obama in Arizona?
He says he never heard Reverend Wright talking but he sure sounded like him!
Open your mind my leftist friends. Hear what your leader is saying. If you honestly do that and still agree with him, we have a starting point to talk.
A good first step - keep hitting Obama. Keep hitting him HARD.
OBAMA has only been in office for 5 months........and you people want to Blame Obama...give me a break....though I knew this is the Republican way. Repulicans kept quite for the last 8 year while Bush/Cheney spent, and spent, destroyed Americas image in the world, and yes made our country weaker. Give OBama a chance to fix the destruciton caused by the previous Republican administration of Bush/Cheney.
tkc123
If he's going to run again? If you didn't just step off the boat I don't know what country you've been living in.
To all you Republican nutbags who are upset with the $1.8 trillion deficit, you need to realize that $1 trillion of that amount was authorized by President Bush before he left office. Do us all a favor and LOOK IT UP!!! You people only hear what you want to.
How is it possible that the BILLIONS spent on the auto companies all to the benefit of the unions that drove these firms to ruin is not be mentioned despite the MILLIONS these same unions spent to get Obama elected.
Did you hear Obama in Arizona?
He says he never heard Reverend Wright talking but he sure sounded like him!
_______________
Sammy Adams??? WTF are you talking about? I just searched everything I could and nowhere in his address to ASU does he talk about Rev. Wright.
But Rush did a great job at pulling out 4 sound bytes and proceeded to twist, analyze, and summarize them as: "America sucks, American exceptionalism is over, the American military is immoral, and you shouldn't strive toward anything that involves improving yourself. "
Obumma helped create many of the situations that the USA is dealing with right now. In fact, he leveraged these activities to become president. Ergo, one cannot approach the Obumma administration as though they had nothing to do with the current state of things. In fact, he now owns quite a bit of everything.
If his successful campaign leveraged on bringing the troops home, then he should be held accountable and responsible to do just that. However, it's becoming increasing clear that the troops are simply being redistributed (i.e. like the wealth of the nation) to more difficult situations. In addition, more war is being prepared (e.g. $97 million in War funds; thousands of troops). Who knows where this will lead? However, we do know that it will continue to tax the USA and its citizens in the same way that the Iraq War has.
Put you egos aside and pay attention to the state of affairs. The economy is worse; more war has been waged. Most of the current administration is notably corrupt. The guy who rode in on Lincoln's coattails couldn't hold a match to him.
Everyone here is dissing Senator Edward Kennedy who presented BO Obama (the Obama puppy) to Sasha and Malia as an Easter gift. Every american knows that, why don't these republican idiots know it - could it be they ARENT Americans after all?? Not only does Barack Obama pay for his own tickets and bills for his personal items like a seat to watch the NBA, a dinner date with his wife, etc, he and his wife have also refused their allotted renovation funds and made the white house renovations with their own monies, something Bush would never have dreamed of doing with his own monies which he had tenfold more of than the Obamas. Bush used all of his renovation allocations with each of his 2 elections and then just before departing, his better half wasted a fortune on a dinner plate set. The Obamas could have used taxpayer monies for the home renovations, the swing set and the picnic table for the girls - it was legitimate expenses allocated for such. The Obamas instead opted to use their own monies.
Now the BIG question: Whose monies were used for this GOP ad nauseam; was it the personal funds of the GOPs who thought up this idea or was it from the campaign contributions to them or the republican party (you know, the everyday, hard working taxpayers who sacrifice to support their political choices).
It is time for the republicans to go the way of the Whigs. They are already battling each other with no one leading them to a productive future, they are already so divided that they are labelling their different factions and they all appear to thrive on hatred, fear-mongering, lies and attempts to divide our great country into a civil war based upon religious and racial differences. Do they not realize that most of the country is NOT STUPID and can see they are thrashing violently around in the quicksand they themselves have created.
In case I dont get to say this to the republicans before they evaporate into oblivion, bye GOP, without your presence we couldnt appreciate democracy as much as we can after your almost successful attempt to turn our great country into an oligarchy ruled by oil barons and banks. Thank God and God Bless America that they didnt succeed!!!!
Funny Obama has spent more money then any President in history and yet they blame Bush.
Obama has sent almost 100,000 troops to Afghanistan and yet it is Bush's fault.
Obama is spending 1.8 trillion dollars on his budget for next year, 3 times as much as Bush and yet it is his fault.
Hey Libs you can only blame someone else for Obama's failures for so long. People are waking up and realizing the "change" is just the same crap wrapped up in the same old package.
lukebusy,
GOP = borrow and spend
Democrats = tax and spend
Pick your poison. If you can't see it for what it is, perhaps you have your head stuck somewhere, but I'm thinking its not a koolaide bottle.
JustMeAgain
You can't actually believe that Obama is noble and generous. He has made very few contributions to charity. Much like other Dems, they are happy to let taxes pay for their pet projects. Conservatives donate considerably more of their money as a percentage, but only because they'd prefer to have a say of where their tax money goes. Neither side in noble in this regard, nor any regard, really. Right or left, people need to be skeptical of those we elect.
Bo was a gift...they didn't pay for the dog. And funny how suddenly the repubs are worried about spending money and paying off special interests, considering the last administration's record. Hypocrites, desperate hypocrites all of them.
Great Ad.
To the Obama worshippers,
DON'T , I REPEAT. DON'T APPLY FOR THE OBAMA CARD. THIS IS ONLY A SATIRE.
Just a friendly reminder.
Only 1350 days left until the next Presidential election. Just think, that's still a lot of time for the Republicans to do a lot more stupid things.
It reminds me of that old saying "“Everyone has a right to be stupid; some people just abuse the privilege.” That's the GOP.
it's still a good ad. Just because Bush wasn't a good fiscal President, doesn't mean it's ok for Obama to do it; and Obama ran on 'change' and he lied. He is 20 times worse than Bush and that's pretty bad. It's about time liberals just admit they screwed up and grow up. Bush had Pelosis congress and Obama has already spent more money than Bush in 8 Years. Lets not forget about the democrats genious CRAct that got us into this mess. Big government in BAD-just look at stimulous checks going to dead people and the wide open border. No one cares! Start electing REAL conservatives and it will get better. and gay marriage. L
Number 13 I heartily agree! Thank you!
