Republicans: Pelosi no Bond girl

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 19, 2009 09:49 AM

The Republican National Committee takes some liberties with a James Bond parody in its latest bashing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"Pelosi vs. CIA," the new web video says on screen over the all-too-familiar theme music.

The video then shows Pelosi, insisting that she wasn't told in a 2002 CIA briefing that waterboarding was being used against terrorist suspects, accusing the spy agency of lying. "Yes, misleading the Congress of the United States," she said in a news conference last week when reporters pressed her.

The video then shows White House press secretary Robert Gibbs taking a pass on the issue, then a series of unflattering headlines about Pelosi's predicament.

The CIA, now led by Leon Panetta, a former Democratic House colleague of Pelosi's, has hit back, saying it does not lie to Congress. Republicans have been using the controversy as the opening to attack Pelosi, with some calling on her to resign.

"Lack of Leadership," it says on screen at the close of the video, then a reference to one of the "Bond girl" characters: "Democrats Galore."

Will the Boston Globe ever get an objective "reporter"?
"Bash"??
Ms. Pelosi's behavior is deserved of exposure and criticism. I hardly would call it "bashing" unless of course I were sympatheitc to her side of the aisle, which no doubt Foon Rhee is.

she should resign for the betterment of our government if she cares so much about our country. If not, she should be impeached

How about this: The CIA does not lie ONLY to Congress.

The CIA's job is to lie! During the Bush administration the activities of the CIA were continually misrepresented to Americans. "No we have no foreign prisons." "No we do not send prisoners to third party countries to be tortured." "No we do not kidpnap people."

But keep bleating and wasting your time making home movies, GOP! It's all you have left. That pounding sound you hear are the last nails entering your political coffin.

How is she the third in line for the presidency of the united states? She is obviously an unstable socialist wacko

Leave it to the Republicans to work up a silly a ad like that.
They could prove Pelosi is lying by swearing that they WERE briefed as to torture...but they won't. After all, they were actually in control at the time and didn't even question it.

LOL! Hilarious!

The Dems are the worst collection of liars, incompetents, criminals, and freaks this country has even seen. Our Republic is in serious jeopardy if the American people do not vote them out in 2010.

She is a rotten LIAR! And she's been caught and she knows it.

And Gibbs "is not going to RSVP"? What a weasel!

This administration is nothing but liars and cowards. Where's The Change We Can Believe In?

Rrrigghhhttt ... The real story is not that the Rethugs did torture, endangering our troops, it's that somebody else misspoke. Quick, look over there! Our crimes aren't the crimes you're looking for!

Now's the time for everyone still angry about Pelosi's "impeachment is off the table" position (re impeaching Bush) to help this foolish woman sink to oblivion or disgrace because of her own stupidity.

Whether it's "impeachment is off the table" or "Yes, misleading the Congress of the United States," it's obvious that this woman just isn't smart enough to be Speaker of the House.

Ah, the perils of basing your entire sense of morality on public opinion. Public opinion changes. In 2001, waterboarding would have been accepted as OK. The Democrats don't want to admit that. They say "torture is torture" even though the former CIA agent Mr. Kariakou (something like that) volunteered to be waterboarded and did not consider it torture even after going through it. Only years later he decided he thinks its torture because it seemed politically expedient. Pelosi is endangering National Security by attacking the CIA as liars. Why would anyone in the CIA take any risks or stick their neck out now? She cares more about her "image" than the truth or her country. Disgusting!

The GOP is more pathetic all the time, talk about grasping at straws. Why don't they apologize for their incompetence and corruption of the last 8 years? Too bad the media has played their role as willing sheep to bleat this story into the headlines, while ignoring the real issue, the criminals in the Bush Administratiion who instituted torture as a national policy.

Wow, that's a pretty hefty charge. The WORST this country has ever seen? Could you please show the class what you're using as a basis for comparison? Just curious.

What's a little lying to the GOP? I don't remember hearing any objections when Bush, et al lied repeatedly for eight long years. Where were the principaled stands by Republicans then? The GOP carping would be more persuasive if they also were calling for justice and for putting George W. Bush and his co-conspirators on trial. They aren't, and that makes this charade all the more pathetic.

One look into Pelosi's perpetually strained eyes and you can see that this is either a mentally-ill individual with serious bi-polar issues or she has the world's worst plastic surgeon. Pelosi exhibits all of the symptoms of a bi-polar individual who fantasizes facts and then scrambles to weasel-word her way back once she is confronted with reality. pelosi is mentally unstable and unfit for public office..except maybe in california.

The Left Wing Nut Democrats have now made bitter enemies out of the CIA, the FBI, other 3 letter agencies and the military because the Democrats are desperately trying to do everything they can to undermine America's defenders and help the enemy and its been this way a long time. These front line fighters in the War on Terror are not going to forget which party it is that is constantly trying to undermine them. And neither will the rest of us.

The Democrats are starting to circulate al Qaeda talking points trying to claim that the CIA and military had "child rape programs" and other Democrat Left Wing Nut lies designed to help the enemy.

As usual and predictably, the Democrats have over-reached in a remarkably short time.

The Democrats are reduced to the argument of "Oops, Pelosi got caught lying so now we'll try to claim both sides are telling the truth".

Lame try - Pelosi must either produce the evidence of HER claim that the CIA lied to Congress or resign from Congress. One is telling the truth, one is lying - which is it?

America cannot afford to have this woman off her rocker in this position. Words like "Dementia" are starting to surface regarding Pelosi which is also just another excuse.

America is starting to get sick of the Democrats and all their excuses, whining and al Qaeda talking points.

And replace them with what, bummer? The previous bunch of even bigger incompetents and criminals? And the Repubs using "lack of leadership" as an attack? What a joke!
