Romney to call N.H. home?

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 7, 2009 02:40 PM

Could it be the latest sign that Mitt Romney is preparing to run for president again?

Hotline is reporting that Romney is making moves to establish his legal residency in New Hampshire -- site of the first-in-the-nation primary.

The former Massachusetts governor is selling homes in Belmont, Mass., and in Utah, and plans to spend time at his summer home on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in the Granite State, notes Hotline, the political blog of the National Journal.

UPDATE: Romney's spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said in an email this afternoon: "Mitt Romney is still a Massachusetts resident. There have been no changes in his status."

Romney lost the New Hampshire primary last year to John McCain, but the Arizona senator won't be running in 2012.

Romney, who after dropping out of the nomination race formed a political action committee that helps Republican candidates, is now an oft-quoted critic of President Obama and a big wheel in the new GOP policy effort, the National Council for a New America.

Didn't I read somewhere -- quite possibly The Globe -- that Romney sold his home in Belmont as well as his vacation home in Park City, Utah? I think so. He also owns a home in LaJolla, California. The family has owned the property in New Hampshire for years and has spent considerable time there every summer. There is no NEW news here. Hotline is breathlessly tripping all over itself and The Globe seems to be eagerly lapping it up. But, I'm sure Romney appreciates the publicity, just the same!

If I had Mitt money I'd spend more time on Lake Winny too.

It's interesting how The Globe will think it a big deal to write about this non-event but fail to mention in any article about the free cars being handed out to welfare recipients with expenses paid for by the taxpayers!

He's moving there because he hears that once gay marriage is approved, polygamy is sure to follow.

He is doing this in order to run for the US Senate seat that is to be vacated by Judd Gregg.

Considering he wasn't a legal resident of MA when he ran for governor, it probably doesn't matter. He'll claim whatever is politically expedient when he runs, regardless of what he might have claimed previously. His residency, his policitical postitions, they all change with the breeze to whatever serves him at the time.

Too bad the "conservatives" are too stupid to look as his past positions and platforms and accept whatever he says is now his belief - they'd see what a sham he is.

The snake slithers to a new 'home.' He was a worthless Governor and a pathetic potential candidate who has and will say anything, yes anything, to sell us on his candidacy and sneak his way into power. This snake needs a mallet applied to his political aspirations once and for all.

This country had enough of lawyers turned pols as presidents. We need a business person to run this country as a business which is how it should be run.
Romney is the ONLY one with both business and political experience. And a great business resume to boot. No community organizers need to apply here.

All for Romney in 2012.

Mitt Romney wants to briefly serve as a US Senator and then springboard that into a presidential run. His spokesman did not deny that Romney was intending to make New Hampshire his state of residence. He only said that as of now, Romney is still a MA resident. Romney would love to run for the US Senate seat in NH that Judd Gregg is retiring from. However, should Sen. Kennedy's MA seat become vacant prior to the deadline for filing to run for the NH Senate seat, Romney would run for that. A special election in MA would require the winner to alreay have a campaign warchest, and that would not be an issue for Romney.

He'll be as much a NH resident as Hillary Clinton is a New Yorker or George Bush is a Texan. It looks better to Conservatives to be from NH than it does to be from that 'Liberal sesspool' that is MA. To bad most Conservatives are so easy to fool.

I'm pretty sure his UT home has been purchased, or is under agreement to a race car driver/owner. However, since I don't think his MA home has sold yet, Fehrnstrom is likely correct when he says Romney's still a MA resident, but read between the lines.

Good riddance to that backstabbing fraud, by the way. After we MA residents elected him for governor, he had the audacity to speak badly about us in his run for president once it became convenient.

Mitt's tail is so oiled up with fish slime, he'll manage to squirm his way into the front row again.

But he's finished politically. Even more than
Massachusetts, NH will have none of it. He doesn't pass the smell test. Moreover NH read all of the news as it unfolded in MA over 4 years.

Now, he's either a Tommy Thompson--a washed up, has-been, former governor of a postage stamp populated state--or a Ronald Reagan.

The problem for Mitt is that Reagan passed the big test: the sincerity test. He wasn't regarded as an unctious opportunist.

Too bad Romeny could call the "moon" as his permanent residence. Even at 6.5 million miles away.....it still isn't far enough away from Massachusetts.

Romney is a big phoney, an elitest "suit" who doesn't like his opinions challenged....on anything. Romney never understood the difference between running the state house and running a business. This is why he was not successful.

The Holy Bible and US politics has run its course for now...Sarah, Mitt, Newt, Lindsey, Huckabee...give it up.....the lack of credibility among NEOCONS will certainly not entertain the mainstream who are now democratic skewed. Like it or not the pouty lipped, slicked haired, rich guy will not make it in presidential politics....ever. Mitt, pretend your a regular guy, go spend your money, have a nice life,....... Support a neuvoux movement excluding yourself and others like you. The goals of the USA will not include the patchwork quilt of business as usual of NEOCON politics for 2012. Advocating torture, politially motivated patriotism, big business, expensive health care, hate politics, guns, kick butt mentality, deficit spending, war, is gone forever and a day. So sad. Bye Bye.

Oh, I get it... so the Boston.com police will remove an earlier comment I made cuz I tossed Hillary under the bus (it would have had to have been a really big bus) with a really mild joke but they let a few sizzlers through when it comes to slamming Romney. I never used to pick on you guys even though your slant was painfully obvious. Ok then, it's on.

Yeah, there weren't many folks who were less Reagan fans than me - I left the Republican Party for good the day after he was elected President - but his worst enemies never said of him that he was a waffler and a flip-flopper who stood for different things depending on his audience.

I knew Ronald Reagan. Mitt, you're no Ronald Reagan.

I would love to move to NH too. They don't give free cars and cell phones to welfare recipients like they do in Mass. Maybe Romney was upset that his tax dollars were going to support Obama's aunt and all the other illegals. And to the person who said that Romney didn't understand the difference in running a state and running a business, you are correct that Romney is a businessman. You know what happens in business? If you don't have the money, you don't spend it. Too bad all politicians weren't like Romney. If they were, the country would be a better place.

I'd take him over our current governor(or President) in a heartbeat. But wait, he "flip flops" and oh yeah, all mormons are polygamists, right?

Mike,
I'm just curious; what "unfolded in MA over 4 years"? As I see it, he made an earnest effort to clean up and disband the very cost structures and agencies that are plaguing the state today. He was stonewalled by a liberal/crony-ist legislature every step of the way. If Romney had his way, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today. I'm not so sure having someone who really understands the concept of Revenues and Expenses would be such a bad thing.

People, don't forget that Mitt Romney was the Governor of MA for 2 (two) years only, not four. The other two years he spent campaigning around the country , trying to become the next presidential nomonee, remenber?

lol.

He's taking my advice from last summer. Establish a home in all 50 states and he's assured the presidency. It's a much cheaper way to spend that campaign money. The American voter is just dumb enough to fall for that 'hometown boy makes good' lonesome rhodes bit.

Romney is the best hope for this Country we've got. A great business man who saved the Olympics and saved the U.S. from world wide shame. Romney will be the one we'll all be looking for in the next Presidential election after Obama has run the economy into the dirt. Sure Mitt Romney has conformed his positions from time to time to meet the demands of his constituents but his core beliefs have always been resolute in the sanctity of marriage between one man and ONE woman. He is a devote Mormon who's tenants are very much against abortion. He is for smaller government and more power to the people. He's a great person with a great family. A man we could all be proud of, very much like Reagan...

You people are ridiculous. Romney is a politician. You act shocked and indignant that someone who is in his position would be maneuvering and strategizing his next move. What do you think your man Obama has done for his entire life? Where is he on gay homosexual marriage? He's supposed to support it, but he had to win an election. Blacks voted for him to the tune of 90%, but would they have if he'd come out in favor of gay marriage? No. Look at Prop 8 in CA. All of these slimeballs do what it takes to gain and retain power. You are by definition a self-preserving opportunist if you are a pol. It goes both ways, libs.

Romney is a light to the American economy in its true sense with unemployment shooting to the roof and will continue until 2012 and beyound. The myth of the last election is coming to light and the consequences of electing clowns that runs this countrys wealth and economy to the grave by unionising our lives a very poisonous pill.Clowns wears colorful and funny looking outfit and as the people found out right now thats what this current goverment is wearing. Romney is the solution and not a problem and that is the truth.

You can judge them by their fruits. This man is working his butt off to get into office. He is doing the heavy lifting, shaking hands, kissing babies, etc. He has been a hard worker with (gasp) A JOB all his life and worked his butt off as well. I know he did not "volunteer" and "organize" for a living with perks under the table but he has put more people to work in productive jobs then Liberals can pretend to have saved ("Well I saved 150,000 jobs since I took office") or promise to create with "green jobs". Seriously, do you really think if Mitt Romney became President he would send out his ground troops, take over the Auto, Bank, Real Estate, Insurance, Wall Street, and Health Industries, slam our troops, faiths, and Country?
