Former clerks vouch for Sotomayor
The White House today released a letter to key senators from former clerks of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, offering their "enthusiastic and wholehearted support" for the Supreme Court nominee.
The clerks, who are now prosecutors, corporate counsels, and lawyers in private practice, call Sotomayor a "brilliant and first-rate judge who is an ideal selection" for the high court. Read it here.
They vouch for her "commitment to the rule of law" in the letter to Senators Harry Reid, the top Democrat in the Senate; Mitch McConnell, the top Republican; Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee; and Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the committee.
Sotomayor, who now sits on a federal appeals court in New York, will start making the rounds of the Senate this week in advance of her confirmation hearing, which has not been scheduled yet.
UPDATE: The White House this afternoon announced the first round of courtesy calls Tuesday for Sotomayor.
She will meet with Reid, McConnell, Leahy, Sessions, assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin, assistant Republican Leader Jon Kyl, Charles Schumer, Orrin Hatch, Dianne Feinstein, and Kirsten Gillibrand.
