From Argentina, news on Sanford and 'Maria'

By Globe Staff

Her name is Maria. She has two children, one a teen-ager. She lives in a 14-story apartment building in Buenos Aires.

These are details in a McClatchy report this evening of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's mystery trip to Argentina and his sorrowful confession today of infidelity to his wife and four sons.

Most revealing are the e-mails, requested by The State newspaper and not denied by his staff.

In one, the Republican governor waxes idyllic about his mistress, identified only by her first name by The State:

"You have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself ... in the faded glow of the night’s light ... despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”

Here's more.

By early evening, the websites of the two major Argentine newspapers, Clarin and La Nacion, were featuring wire stories from the United States about the affair. Clarin also featured the United States upset of top-ranked Spain in pre-World Cup soccer tournament action.

Maria, Maria, he just met a girl named Maria ...
Don't ya love Rebublican romance novels !?
Ah the perks of politics.

I voted for Obama because he's a family values guy.

I bet not a single Republican would identify him as one.

They voted for McCain who was an adulterer and a divorcee.

Reagan was a divorcee and they love him.

Clinton was a pig...just like Rudi. They loved Rudi.

Geez, it's a toss-up as to which set of love e-mails was the most cringe inducing-Sanford's or John Henry's.

If we haven't learned by now, politicians live by their own rules, get the GOLDEN PARACHUTE PACKAGES, and they are nothing but a bunch of tax cheats, cheating, immoral, power hungry individuals! THAT'S WHY I DO NOT BELIEVE IN BIG GOV'T! They do nothing for the common folk!

Apparently her name is María José Lubertino, a former representative (diputada) and actually presiding the INADI or Argentine Institute Against Discrimination. She is a very liberal politician and not very supportive of free market systems; what was she doing with a Republican? Or is it Love....;)
Just to remind you, the Kirchner administration is very hostile to American policies and interests.
Contradictions, here in Argentina and in US too...Rgds.,

Little nicer than the Dems sordid tales though, isn't it? Eliot Spitzer hanging a working girl out to dry. Barney Frank running a prostitution ring from his basement, Ted Kennedy killing his Chappaquiddick mistress ....

It's time for an overhalt scrutinising peoples private life.Politician are the same as any person walking the earth we all make mistakes and error in our daily lives.Where in the constitution that says if you have an affair you will have to resign nowhere. This is where we err in intrepeting the constitution it doesn't prohibit personal choices and freedom to act whether as an individual or as a nation.I believe in value but I don't go along with many voices that called for overvaluing ourselves to the point where we judge others.Sometimes advertising too much of values can be manipulative it's better keep them out of political arguments.I believe the only thing matter most to public service and political arena should be experiences and and good judgement of important issues concerning public affairs and businesses.

Sanford, Ensign and Vitter... the Republican Party has become indistinguishable from the Democratic Party. The GOP better have an emergency meeting and remove any and all like-minded losers or they are toast in 2010 and 2012.

Republicans "family values" strikes again...the man abandoned his 4 sons over "Fathers Day" and his "stand by your man" wife" is cluelesly covering up what she already knew!! and the GOP wonders why they have NO credibility?

His disgusting personal behavior aside, noone seems to care about his 'professional' behavior...that as governor of his state, he disappeared, lied to his staff and most importantly, left no accommodations for 'delegation of authority'.

What if a natural disaster occurred? What if an Amtrak train collision or tanker explosion had happened while he was out? What if an airliner had crashed in his state w/ massive loss of life? He should step aside as governor as well.

Give me a break all of you who keep ringing the "Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy had scandals too" bell -- how many years ago was that???

How do solve a problem like Maria? Geez- I don't like Sanford's policies and am not going to applaud what he did but why do we need to spend so much time on this. Adultery is unpleasant and but also fun (for some) and fairly common. We need to move away from the distractions and go back to judging leaders by what they do not who they do

Puppy love from a family values guy who isn't afraid to take a stand on the sanctity of marriage. It's so adorable.

And he's fiscally responsible, right?

APC conceptually I agree with you, but when a politician swaths himself in righteousness, Christian values, the sanctity of marriage and family only to be victimized by his own human failings (however, entertaining it might be for some), then the boundary lines get very murky. When Governor Sanford stood on the bully pulpit of righteousness in judgment of others' decisions and lifestyle, he made his own human failings the story. Perhaps from this point forward he, and others who have trumpeted choruses of virtue for personal political gain, will be considerably more circumspect before judging others. Do ya think.....hmmmm?

Ah yes, another example of the "family values", bible-thumping Republicans showing their true, creepy colors. Ensign, Sanford.....they're just the most recent of a long line of Republican hypocrites. Sanford's mouthpieces said in the media that his "strong faith" would help him deal with the situation. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! His faith in what? Boobies? When will their poor, uneducated, Joe Lunchpail followers realize that they're being played every time they vote Republican?

It’s the hypocrisy that is soooo delicious here. Given both parties have their own issues, but live what you preach fool.

Finally the Dems catch a break with the adultery scandals. Any word on how the Democrats' beloved Vice Presidential and Presidential candidate John Edward's love child is doing these days?

Guess you Dems who criticize Sanford just conveniently have forgotten about his indiscretions. Jeez, Mrs. Edwards suffered the loss of a child, then cancer, then two Presidential campaigns, only to find out that her hubby is the father of his mistress' child! The damage that guy caused makes Sanford's actions look like a mere cake walk.

You'd think they'd learn -- when you're in the public eye, you can't get away with anything. But, each one thinks they're "different" or "special." Truth is, they are losers all.

Interestingly, I don't recall any Democrats coming to John Edwards' defense, least of all by sounding like a third grader, "But THEY did it, too."

If there is no public record to indicate major league hypocracy, then this is a private matter. End of story.!
This is the view of one left of center Democrat!

Blue Heaven, you are conveniently forgetting that John Edwards did NOT get on the pulpit and preach moral values......Sanford did. He voted to impeach Pres. Clinton over his indiscretion citing "moral values". Anyway, the more important issue is that he left his state without "leadership". A governor can't just "go away" and not tell his lt. governor where he is going and how to contact him. That is turning his back on the responsiblities he accepted when sworn in as governor.

Posted by nano June 25, 09 01:48 PM

Oh yah, this is a private issue, just like Clinton and the blue dress event. There is enough tar for both parties. However, when the RNC implicitly trots out morality as THE fallback cornerstone to the party, one must stand up and take notice when these events take place. The political references that create the personna of stand up, christian, do-gooder politicians falls at the feet of republicans almost exclusively. This latest botch is more than another good reason to initiate wholesale change to the Republican method of king-making politicians. One can only hope that this change will take place before the testing of political waters for 2012.

Man, these repubs just can't do anything right. You'd think being weak, out of power, splitting into 2 camps, and not having any real candidate for prez or any hope of getting the senate or congress back, you would think that idiots like Mark "Rico Suave" Sanford would be a little more careful than to cause further damage to this already badly damaged shell of a party.
Meanwhile, PRESIDENT Obama continues to pass whatever legislation and policies he wants. The question is do Repubs just lay down in the road or get out of the way of the Obama express! LOL, LOL, LOL!
