Kerry says tax lien is clerical error

Senator John F. Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign has been slapped with a $819,848 federal tax lien, but his office says it is a paperwork error and the campaign owes no tax penalties.

The Massachusetts Democrat said the Internal Revenue Service mishandled payroll tax forms that he said were correctly filed by his campaign in 2005. "This is a clerical matter, nothing more, nothing less," Kerry spokeswoman Whitney Smith told the Associated Press.

The IRS notified the Kerry campaign in January 2008 that it had failed to file certain payroll tax forms for the 2004 tax year. Smith told the AP that the IRS must have lost the payroll forms since the campaign had filed them in 2005, but the campaign filed them again last year.

Until this matter is cleared up, the IRS annocuned that they will hold the Senator"s hair in escrow.

Hard to believe!! A Democrat with a tax problem!

This is amazing! First you have Pelosi accusing the CIA of lying to Congress, and now you have Kerry claimiing the IRS made a simple $800,000 mistake. Here's the irony. Although they are both likely wrong, if we believe they are both right, isn't this further evidence that the government is ill equipped to run the banks, the auto industry, healthcare, etc?

Typical Kerry, only little people pay taxes. Funny if I waited a year to pay an 800k tax bill they would most likely arrest me.

It must be the reason Obama didn't appoint him to Secretary of Defense (or whatever else he was angling for) they knew months ago that he owed taxes. Dang.....now we are stuck with him for at least 4 more years.
