Congressman blasts Jackson, media
Representative Peter King might have spoken for some of his constituents sick and tired of wall-to-wall coverage of Michael Jackson's death.
But the New York congressman, who is thinking about running for the US Senate, certainly didn't mince any words -- and that is drawing quite a bit of attention itself.
In a video shot Sunday outside an American Legion hall in his district and then posted on YouTube, King railed against all the attention given to Jackson -- a "lowlife," he called him -- in contrast to the real heroes: members of the military, police officers, firefighters, and teachers.
"This guy was a pervert," King says. "He was a child molester. He was a pedophile. And to be giving this much coverage to him, day in and day out, what does it say about us as a country?"
Jackson was acquitted in 2005 of charges that he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor, but paid a settlement to another accuser's family and in a 2003 documentary admitted letting children sleep with him in his bed at Neverland , though said it wasn't sexual.
King goes on to say that the media has "disgraced" itself with its Jackson obsession. It will ramp up again Tuesday for his public memorial service in Los Angeles, which will be broadcast live by all the major cable news and broadcast networks.
"He died, he had some talent, fine," the congressman said.
"The bottom line is: Would you let your child or grandchild be in the same room with Michael Jackson?"

He's right.
Somebody needs to switch to decaf...
what a sad man , well maybe he should appeal and make a speach about how poor the court system in america is as they have found jackson inoccent...i must be honest tho i looked into both cases against jackson and when you look at it these familys were fileing accusations against everyone first case with jorden well his father is now in prison for assaulting his son....second family mother was a nutter with some crazy claims against jackson such as being held hostage when in fact she was shopping on jacksons card...i know how jackson comes across as strange but when you delve into the details i think he was framed....such a shame...easy to calll out peadifile but not so easy to get rid of the tag shame
good for him!
By God he's speaking the truth and being a leader! From a Congressman? Who would have thunk it. Sad that he's the only one.
I heard the media is now teeing off on him for calling them out.
About time someone in government said something about Jackson's pedophile behavior. Settled out of court.... hints of guilty....
i wonder if he was as outspoken with john lennon or elvis presley died??? i know the media eat that up too.
if you cant say something nice about the dead....SHUT UP! the dead cannot fight back nor should anyone else have to on their behalf.
Frankly, I'm sick of the Michael Jackson coverage. Enough already. That being said, Congressman King should be reminded of our tradition of innocent until proven guilty, and Michael Jackson was never convicted of pedophilia. As a government official, King should just shut up.
shame on you congrassmen, how dare you spoke about my beloved michael jackson in that tone of voice. He is a 100% better human being than all of us.
So shut up.
Rep King is a racist and a "low-life".
Leave it up to a Republican to stand up and speak the truth, while everybody else play with emotion to continue this never ending saga of his death. There's a silent majority that doesn't feel the need to be on television with their mock tears and putting flowers down to a "memorial" in front of the hospital or Jackson's home. Just because he could sing and dance doesn't mean he was a good human being.
It's not up to him, or us, to judge. Only his maker can do that.
I don't have strong feelings about Michael Jackson. He had some serious accusations against him, sure. But he was never convicted of anything and it is unbecoming of this guy to say all of this about a dead person.
Good job by Rep. King. The truth shall set you free. Who would have thought one of the few voices of reason and sanity in all the Michael jackson madness would come from a politician?
That sad Republican Congressman is simply another bigoted, low-life bloke who can't get over Michael Jackson's unparalleled success! Shame on you! Is it that you can't deal with the fact that Michael is the real KING, and not you!
I can't believe I'm going to agree with King, but he's right. I do think King is always on the wrong side of every topic except this one. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye and many other black performers deserved all this attention, not Jackson. He hasn't put out anything in over 20 years. The only thing we have heard about over the last 20 years is Wacko Jacko. The man was ashamed to be black. He was like O.J. He used the black race like a coat. Put on the coat when he needed them, took it off when he was done. Jamie Fox was wrong. Jackson didn't belong to the Black race, he belonged to whatever suited him at the time. That says it all. Yes, he had talent, but does that talent deserve all this attention? He's not the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, all muscians whose music will be listened to in a 100 years. Jackson, I don't think so. Plus the whole child thing makes me squirm. I would never let my kids near him.
No mention of party affiliation, must be a Democrat.
Not often I agree with a Politician but the man is absolutely right. In the course of one week Jackson has gone from a drug taking pedophile to a Saint.
Here we go again with the republican running their mouth again! Hay numb nuts, why don't we have coverage about our injury or killed soliders? Because another "republican" Bush didn't want us to see the truth! Boy, they do have a short memory. So go get your guns and run back to you cave or bunker with all your Fox News and republican buddies, the world will run a lot smoother without you messing with my counrty! And by Law, Micheal Jackson was found not gulity by our law. To bad if you don't like it......It's the law!!!!!
Read Bob Herbert's column in the NYTimes. Bob is a black man and a liberal whom I often disagree with.but this time , regarding MJ he is right on calling him a pervert, in so many words. He describes his early visit with the entertainer as 'creepy'. Peter King is right on in his outlook. As if to emphasize the shallowness of MJ's life, we see the two biggest sleezbag politocos,Jackson and Sharpton who never avoid a public carrion they cannot bite into ooze their way near the cameras. While decent men like Colin Powell and Bill Cosby are shunned by the slugs in the black leadership, the life of black folks who work each day with quiet courage slips further behind. You may want to watch his videos but would you let him take your child to the store? Nada!!He had talent and used it for evil.
no, he is not right. and truth...he obviously can't handle the truth because he is telling lies. he's an idiot and he does not believe in the juidicial system, and him being a politician and all. what a peter head! just dry up and blow away and take your clueless followers with you!
Thank you for reminding us how ridiculous the media hype can be. Peter, you are to be congratulated. There are many more people dying every day who deserve our thoughts and praise rather than Michael Jackson.
Peter King is a paththetic pol. He has no chance of winning the senate and is trying to boost his chances....he has lost bigtime.
Mr Moran, you are pathethetic also. Who convicted this guy? not a jury of his peers.
Just those who believe that Cops never lie.
Yeah it's about time someone pointed out that the emperor has no clothes on
I agree that the over the top attention given to MJ relfects poorly on society. For a guy that was as twisted in the head as he was and that produced nothing but negative news for the past ten years and was inapproriately freindly with little boys, he seems to be receiving far too much attention.
Thank God someone commented on this Jackson embarassment. Iraq, Healthcare and the staggering economy and all the major media sources can concentrate is on a probable child molester. Charie Gibson you should be so embarassed for last nights so called news cast. Thank you Mr King. Watch out you will be called racist i am sure by MTV generation or the very Honorable Al Sharpton types.. Of course they don''t vote so not to worry
This is just pure racism, king, u do not deserve to be called a congressman, I hope u don't get elected, u sound like a terrorist. Who are u to judge another human, did u even know the guy, u should appologise to the american public.....u totally sound like the lowlife.
It's about time someone had the stones to tell it like it is where Jackson is concerned. Jackson was an entertainment genius, but a poor excuse for a human otherwise. Kudos to the Congressman, he is only voicing what others are thinking. Just the fact that Sharpton and Jesse Jackson showed up so quickly tells you all you need to know about this situation.
I happen to think that there is some truth to what he says but as a professional he has no business saying it for publication. It is the same thing as not quitting as governor except exigent, unrelenting circumstances. It is the same as publishing racial epithets about the president of the United States. The ill bred are attracted to the irresponsible nature of the Republican leadership and that is why they are a dominant force in the party today. When I was a youth these people were mostly Democrats.
"The ill bred are attracted to the irresponsible nature of the Republican leadership and that is why they are a dominant force in the party today." - Ron M
Sure, Ron. And the highly competent Democratic constituents here in MA, and on the national stage, just shine with intellectual prowess. Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.
You should all shut up.
Peter King should be sued for slander. Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges. New Yorkers you do not need this hateful old white man to represent any of you.
It amazes me that folks use any bit to mouth off about unrelated stuff and share their back hills intolerance.... the media responds to what people want to see..... if you''re in the minority now then you'll get your chance to view something else when this passes and it will.... but to call someone a pedophile who was acquitted......-dah. To be charged is to be guilty? It's amazing how many Americans cannot think critically, draw conclusions or handlle complex reasoning. We better get ourselves together or we are going to fall off the top faster than it's happening.....
We need more people with backbone, with courage to speak up loud and clear for
what is morally right and not to be afraid and be silent for political expedience.
Congressman Peter King (R-NY) is that kind of a person!
I aplaud him for his honesty, courage and intellect in framing the issue of constant
glamorization of an individual with talent as a singer/dancer but NOT as a role model, particularly to the real youth of America.
Congressman King, we honor you!
How would a Michael Jackson victim feel about all the adulation and denial star could ever be a pedophile? A lot like a victim of a pedophile priest
*
I can’t help but wonder just how bad the boys who ended up in Michael Jackson’s bed feel right now, hearing everyone in the United States except Sean Hannity rave about how great Jackson was, and how it can't be possible for such a loving man to have been a pedophile.
As an adult victim of a pedophile priest, I will always see Jackson as another example of wealth and power protecting a criminal. Jackson had free access to children, as did the priests in the Catholic Church, even though people around him could see something wrong was happening, no one dared intervene. Today pundits, in this endless brain fry of "news" about Jackson’s death, keep saying since Jackson was found not guilty, you can’t call him a pedophile. Well OJ was found not guilty of murder in California too. After Jackson’s acquittal, two jurors said they were intimidated into going along with the foreman, and then went on book tours, one telling MSNBC: “No doubt in my mind whatsoever, that boy was molested.”
My fear now is that this gradual condoning of Jackson's sex crimes will segue into a gradual acceptance that, sure, a lot of Catholic priests are pedophiles, but look at all the great works they do.
Until this morning I was not going to write about the parallels in the protection of pedophile Michael Jackson and the Catholic Church. Then Stephanie Miller postulated on radio that maybe Jackson had been condemned unfairly the last years of his life. Miller’s cohort responded, “Jackson even said himself, when he had boys stay in bed with him, it was innocent, just like a sleepover for kids. Michael Jackson was just a kid himself.”
No, he was not a child trapped in a grown up body. Jackson was an astute businessman, with vast wealth and power since age 12, and no one was able to tell him no, including doctors, as we saw in his death. He was surrounded for decades by burly Black Muslim guards, and what went on inside his confines was paid for and secret. I'm sure his victims felt about as good seeing the endless display of adoration in the media the last weeks as we pedophile priest victims feel when we see Catholics continuing to brainlessly adore their church leaders and insist there were only a few isolated incidents of pedophilia among Catholic priests.
When the Santa Barbara District Attorney saw the documentary Living with Michael Jackson in 2003, where the singer describes his love for little boys, the DA brought charges against the superstar, and began to prosecute him a second time for pedophilia. (At the bottom of the blog today, watch the portion of the Martin Bashir film that sparked charges against Jackson. )

"To my utter astonishment I found out children were still sleeping over, sometimes in his house, sometimes in his bedroom." - Martin Bashir

Even Jackson’s way of explaining the overnight stays sounds way too much like documents I've read in several cases filed by plaintiffs against the Catholic Church. Pedophiles often describe their actions as pure love for a child. Michael Baker and Anthony Rodrigue are two priests from the L.A. Clergy Cases who have claimed, I just loved those boys, that's all it was. I was giving them this special kind of love.
This acceptance of Michael Jackson's crimes could lead to an acceptance of pedohpiles in mainstream society, an acceptance that yes that priest teacher coach scout is a pedophile, but look at all the wonderful things he’s done for children at the same time. He is just about love, nothing but love, it must be true about Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields said so.
Somehow I think in the last week pedophiles took a kind of comfort hearing the glowing love pour out for Michael Jackson after his death, knowing the door had just been nudged open a little bit wider for the public to start accepting all the pedophiles with their innocent sexual weirdness.

Kay Ebeling: THANK YOU
Michael Jackson was never convicted...true, but OJ was found innocent as well. Lets not all play stupid here and believe that the judicial system is not influenced by money.
There is not a chance in hell I would allow my children around either of them.
While most people have their suspicions about whether or not MJ was a child molester, pedophile, etc., we don't know what the truth REALLY is. The only people who do (did) are the children and MJ himself. What is most upsetting to me is that Rep. Peter King chose to speak out after MJ DIED. Rep. King is someone who has the power to influence society and he should spend more time on bettering the judicial system and keeping children safe. What has HE done for victims of molestation? Despite what MJ may or may not have done - there is no disputing that he influenced the entertainment and performing world as we know it. It doesn't matter if it was twenty years ago or not. There are millions of people who still respect MJ for what he brought to the arts and the media was appealing to their needs and wants at this time. Personally, I would rather remember him for the good things he did, than condemn him for the suspected bad things.

Okay, I know there are a lot of pro- and anti-MJ sentiments here, but seriously - how much of a pussy must you be if you couldn't face off against Michael Jackson until after he's dead?
Bravo! Peter King is the only person with the guts to say what the majority of America is thinking. We have celebrated for this pervert more than for JFK, RR, Princess Diana, or anyone else I can think of. The pedophile was just that, and a drugie too.
Have you read the court transcript? Have you read the history of the accusers prior to trial? It's so funny what most of you are writing here now when not having enough information.
I was a fan of MJ's music for many years, but if a man committed a crime, I wouldn't try to vindicate him no matter what just because I love his music.
While carefully reading the available court transcripts, even some of the media garbage and etc, I came to a conclusion that there was just NO reliable information which said that Michael Jackson did that. That's why he was vindicated. If he really was a criminal, someone would definitely come forward during the trial and say it. Someone other than the accuser's brother and sister, and mentally diseased mother, all of them telling different stories and admitting that they have lied in court prior to this trial.
Read the People v. Jackson article on Wikipedia. It contains a lot of interesting independent information.
