No Jackson resolution in Congress
Many Americans are still grieving the death of Michael Jackson, but don't expect Congress to pass a resolution honoring him.
At the star-studded public memorial service on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat, effusively praised the King of Pop and held up a copy of House Resolution 600, (read it here) which would honor Jackson's life and charitable works.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today that she has no plans to bring that resolution to the floor for a vote, suggesting that at least in part she wants to avoid the embarrassment of other House members criticizing Jackson.
"Michael Jackson was a great, great performer, and lots of sadness there for many reasons," she said at a wide-ranging news conference. "What I have said to my colleagues over the years, and certainly as leader and as speaker, is that there's an opportunity on the floor of the House to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish. I don't think it's necessary for us to have a resolution."
"A resolution, I think, would open up to contrary views to -- that are not necessary at this time to be expressed in association with a resolution whose purpose is quite different," she added.
One of the most vocal "contrary views" came from Representative Peter King, a New York Republican who in a widely viewed video blasted Jackson and the intensive media coverage his death prompted.
King called Jackson a lowlife, pervert, and child molester, and said that media attention should go instead to police officers, firefighters, teachers, and other unsung heroes.
The congressman has come under some criticism himself for the vehemence of his remarks. But on Fox News Channel Wednesday night, King stood behind what he said and lashed out at those who saw racism in his remarks.
“That is absolute nonsense. I stand by everything I said and there's absolutely nothing racist or racial in any of the words I used," he said. "I just think that people are raising this issue are absolutely phony.”
UPDATE: Asked about Pelosi's comments, Jackson Lee told the Associated Press that she isn't giving up. Honorary resolutions don't often pass right away, she said this afternoon.

No mention if this resolution is constitutional or not?
To Nancy Polsei, you are a racist, I am sure there's alot of unsung hero everywhere
but the fact is Michael Jackson, is a men don't lie to get to where he is, but you did
and lots of others make other people life misersable just so they can be where they are. Don't honor him but you are just one racis person. That's all to the minority.
Only if they pass one honoring Elvis!
How can you make him into a hero, He was a nut, a child molester, I am so ashamed of how people are crying over this guy.. The media is showing everyone that it is okay to molest children.. this is so wrong...
His personal life has NO connection with his life as a performer. Who are you to judge someone by what they like or what makes them happy? You're not anyone to judge others, because EVERYONE HAS FLAWS. Jackson was THE greatest performer in history, so how does his personal life affect that?? It doesn't so before you judge others, look in the mirror and correct your flaws first.
I think MJ's estate should sue the IRA-terrorist-supporter Pete King for slander. Funny how the people who yell loudest about perverts and pedophiles are so often themselves busted later on for those same offenses. I wonder how many times he's played footsie with Larry Craig under the dividers in the Capitol bathrooms.
To: bitter, hate nancy polsei, and peter king:
Once more, in English?
"To Nancy Polsei, you are a racist, I am sure there's alot of unsung hero everywhere

Is this english? did you read this before posting? How am I supposed to respect you ropinion if you can't post one legible sentance? (Nevermind the face that you idealize a child molester...)...
Racism! What are they trying to do, say that child molestation is a racial trait now?
micheal,will neva stop luvin u
How about a resolution to honor the brave young men who died in Afghanistan last Monday?
are you kidding me? as if the government didn't have enough issues to deal with.. let the man rest in peace, the government do its job: to govern and let the rest of us, who are lucky enough to have a job, help those who don't. Enough already! get a life!
Agreed. Stop with the Jackson stuff. He died 2 weeks ago....let it go.....
Besides -- there have been many, many, many other great musicians of equal or better talent who have never been honored in this way. Stop the madness....
Do those people who accuse Mr. Jackson of being a child molester have first hand information? Last time I checked, though Mr. Jackson was occasionally accused...and by people who had a long history of gold-digging...he was never convicted.
It is a sad time in our world when so many people smugly confuse their uninformed opinions for facts.
Farrah Fawcet went to the pearly gates and the lord asked her..."Do you have any wishes for mankind?" Farrah replied..."I would like to see all the children of the world be safe"
So then the lord took Michael
The smartest thing Congress has(n't) done this year. Jackson was a creepy weirdo who had a lot of talent in a few things.
I don't believe that a resolution is needed in order to honor someone. There are many more pressing issues that should be addressed by our Congress, and I applaud Seaker Pelosi for her decision. Honor Michael in your own way, if you see fit.
Although his child molestation charges were not supported by the verdict in his trial, lingering doubts remain. The truth is that his sister tried to intervene in his addiction, and tried to get the whole family to confront him. He used his wealth and power to shut them out.
I do not know what resolution of Congress could do other than to say that money and power are good, and they let you get away with crimes. We already know that many of them practice this as their own lifestyles, although generally their rivals catch up with them and let the cat out of the bag. It's all very well for an entertainment community to honor one of their own, and to charge the city of Los Angeles which apparently benefits so much from this industry. But it's another thing to take it national and make us all bow before this entertainer as though his sporadic charitable deeds (mixed with dubious behavior) are a model for all of us to emulate.
Many artists are "nuts" but few become so wealthy they can destroy themselves in such style. Let's just let the music speak for itself and shed, if we must, a tear for its creator, whose talent brought a mixed blessing.
To poster #3,
What are you talking about? Nancy "Polsei" is "racis" because she doesn't want to pass an inane resolution on a man who's already been honored in so many other ways? It's sad that something like this would make you so "misersable."
#3, please leave the internet. There is only so much bandwidth available, and I'll be damned if you're going to waste any of it...
If you are a white christian, you can not like someone like Michael Jackson, than
you are not serveing your god and you should not call yourself that at all.
He is not a child molester, he loved children too much. A godly person would not
hate anyone becuse of their skin color, He is hurmless and no one should dislike
him really.
MJ was truly the King of Pop but a resolution? Um... why? What could an entertainer possibly have to do with Congressional resolutions? And hey there, "bitter", you might want to proof-read your comments beofre posting You sounds ignorant as hell. hahaha
What did Elvis to to heal the world? Nothing that i know of. When did he ever donate all of his procedes from a tour to charity......duh...never. How can you call someone a child molester and he was not proven guilty in court - twice. Judge and be ye not judged. If all of the evidence of extortion would have been allowed at the first hearing, then there would have been a second one. Dont hate cause Michael was bigger that Elvis. Please. It doesn't look good on you.
A resolution to honor a pervert?
No way!!!!
Yes,Michael was a pervert. You don't pay off parents if you did no wrong.Honor worthy people and lets stop seeing this bums storys everyday. He's dead and buried so move on. He was also a sickie druggie too.
Vicky, he was not found 'not guilty' twice. The first case was dropped due to a $22 million settlement that MJ paid to, of course, make the accusations go away. Wonder why???
You can go ahead and judge me all you want. I've never diddled a little boy.
And I'd encourage you to not celebrate the lives of child molesters... it doesn't look good on you.
Michael Jackson settled out of court for over $20 million dollars.
Would you settle out of court for $20 million if you were INNOCENT?
...I didn't think so.
As a black, liberal, Viet vet, I'm appalled that a gender-bending, narcisistic, drug-addled entertainer, who happens to have a following for his 'gift,' would be seriously considered to be honored by a House Resolution for "charitable works "(maybe) and his "life" (for being a singer and a "friend" of prepubescent children?).
Why aren't we honoring the people who are giving the prime of their life to US intervention in the ME and Afganistan?
But then again politicians like to give disgraced individuals awards, such as CIA Director, George Tenant, who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from draft dodger "W"....
...never mind!
Very well said golf1945. Damn Joe Jackson, I hold him largely responsible for this mess, though as an adult, MJ should have sought some help - that was his responsibility. What a screw up for such a great talent. For me, it has nothing to do with him being black or white. If he were Caucasian, I'd still feel exactly the same, it's not an appropriate honour and would just further the controversy. Let the entertainment industry honour and remember him for his achievements, sure, but I was highly upset and disturbed by this proposal. Thank goodness that some have seen sense.
Peter King is a good man, and an ardent supporter of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. His Monday Morning Quartbackcolumn on SI.com is a must read.
Here's what I think...
He's gone. He's never hurt any of you. He was talented, and you can't take that away from him. Everyone has something bad to say, it's really pathetic. Was he a child molester, we'll never know. We weren't in the room and have no idea what happened. How sad are you for basing your opinion on Hollywood media? Ironically, when he spent time with children, they adored him. If your own kids knew how judgemental you were, I doubt you'd see adoration in their eyes. More like disgust. Truthfully no one cares and it doesn't make a difference now, he was acquitted - find a way to deal with it. If any of you had an ounce of the talent he had, you wouldn't be talking trash about him, you'd be lying in a gold casket hoping the world would find a way to better itself. No one is perfect... none of us. Get some coffee and go back to work.
oh my god... this entire page - article, comments, and all - is a complete abomination. I'm embarrassed to even be a member of the human race right now.
Completely misguided and uninformed racism accusations.
Incomprehensible blabbering.
Disingenuous patriotism.
Just another day amidst the lunatic fringe that is the Boston.com commenter population.
Where in the Constitution is this power granted to Congress?
I don't understand why everyone hates Michael Jackson. He was a humanitarian, he had three children that he loved from the bottom of his heart. He was a great entertainer and never hurt you or myself. His daughter Paris said it all. From the moment I was born you were the best daddy I love you. Need we say anymore
Now LA is looking for someone to pick up the tab for his memorial service.........can we say unnecessary? like a couple of mill they should ask Al "the racist" Sharpton and all the people that want that resolution can pay for it cause no way tax payers should be paying for this. Honestly these past two weeks have made my hate for MJ alot more.
Idiots like King need to shut up, those accusations no longer matter because he is dead. If you can't respect the dead, then respect his survivors. His grieving 3 children believe their daddy to be perfect and NO ONE has the right to argue that with them or take that away from them.

":Jackson was THE greatest performer in history, so how does his personal life affect that?? "
If Jackson had only harmed himself, fine no problem with his personal life. When his personal life harmed children then that is another matter. There is more than enough evidence to convict the man. So yes, his personal life effects his proformance life.
how are people being racist? he was white when he died...
To Tardo Ricardo: THANK YOU!! someone needed to say it :)
How did racism even make it's way into this conversation?
Honestly, not even something as grave as child molestation is immune to careless, 'Boy Who Cried Wolf' administration of the 'race card'...
Excuse me but I don't have to look at the color of someone's skin to pass judgement on them if they diddle children.

"uninformed racism accusations"
Where is the racism?
How can I thank Nancy Pelosi and the Congress? I admire Michael Jackson as an entertainer but he is a flawed man. Let's each of us honor him in our own way but not as a nation.
Has our country nothing else to focus on other than a dead singer?
aren't there more important things to do in congress? Like fix the economy!
Acquitted By a Jury of His Peers. Doesn't that still mean anything? People keep stating in a matter of fact manner that he molested children. Well, the justice system and the constitution seem to say otherwise.
For those of you who are claiming not honoring him is racist, let me give you my piece of my mind, this does not add up! Because at the time of his death he was not a black man anymore. To qoute one of the hospital insiders who talked to CNN, his body was so white he has never seen like it before. He is not even sure if this has anything to do with the skin disease that has been claimed he had. The truth remains he died as white man and we need to honor his deepest wishes.. He wanted to be white so much to a point he did not even want to use his own sperm to spawn his own offspring! He would rather use "unknown" WHITE man's sperm than his own.. Betraying one of the most basic human instinct. As a performer he was the greatest but he is the last person i would want my kids emulate or look up. He was entertrainer that is it. Had no value added other than that
This is not how our taxpayer money should be spent. Michael Jackson is not a role model! Talented, weird, eccentric, but definitely not a role model!
Wasn't MJ acquitted of all charges? Another trial by public opinion going on here...
Pelosi is a coward. A resolution would have been a powerful statement against the prejudice that innocent people face after they have been exhonerated in court. Our country is awash in a flood of false rape accusations. We need to confront and overcome anti-defendent prejudice and discrimination.
No American should ever have his rights taken away if he has never been CONVICTED of a crime.
@Thanos73 - that's my point (hence 'uninformed' and 'accusations').
For example, comment #3 begins with "To Nancy Polsei, you are a racist..." and then continues on in an unintelligible stream of nonsense.
I'm not saying there's any racism involved in this not becoming a resolution.
I'm saying that even the slightest IDEA that this not becoming a resolution has absolutely ANYTHING to do with race is absurd!
The reason this resolution is going nowhere is because the entire suggestion is frivolous. Simple as that.
For those of you chosing to hack at her, would you please spell her name correctly, it's Nancy Pelosi.
Personally I am of mixed thought on this resolution. I am concerned with the precedent it might set, yet, a resolution in his name would be a wonderful piece of heritage for his kids and the music world. The resolution would also set forth his very considerable contributions which few even knew about. Why were these considerable contributions unknown, perhaps because he was not Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates or even Madona.
For Peter King, I do not think his comments were racist, just incorrect, and stupid. Granted Michael lived "differently" but so what. How did it effect Peter King?
Now, the drugs, the Bettty Ford Clinic wasn't named after a nun. Cindy McCain for goodnes sake stole drugs. Put it in prespective folks, is the resolution for his contributions, or the person he was? I agree that in this country you are "suppose" to be innocent until proven guilty, and he never was.
Congress doesn't need to honor someone who's gotten what must near a hundred awards during his life. Child molester or not, he was simply a performer, and at times, a philanthropist. There are many, many people who fit this role during their lives. The role of Congress is to legislate for the country, not to hand out awards.
May those who toss the stone.. Have A ROCK thrown at their soul.
RIP, Prince of Peace. King of Pop, and Protector of Earth.
Such a nation of self righteous people. I pray that someone will expose Peter King and the affair that he's been having for years now. I wonder if that would make him a pervert. Michael Jackson has done more for this world that any political figure of this generation.
I hardly ever agree with Nancy Pelosi, but I believe she's right on this one. Our country has far more important things to address than passing a resolution for an entertainer -ANY entertainer - regardless of how much he did or didn't do, his religious beliefs, or his race. If you want to honor someone for their contributions to our country, honor all the soldiers who have given their lives, the soldiers who continue to serve, AND their families who willingly give up their time with their loved ones so that they can serve in the military.
"A resolution would have been a powerful statement against the prejudice that innocent people face after they have been exhonerated in court."
Like OJ? You know two of the jurors said two weeks later on camera that they should have convicted him and he was definitely guilty of doing inappropriate things to that boy.
"The ultimate evil is the indifference of 'good men'..."
Empowering evil by celebrating the lives of those who performed evil is probably the worst offense out there. May BOULDER's be thrown at their souls... (and I'll turn my blind eye to that)
This resolution is absolutely absurd, MJ was hailed as a best dad? i didnt have any idea that being a pedophile ,drug addict will qualify anybody to be best dad, this man didnt even adopt those kids legally, and some people have the nerve to bring out a resolution honoring MJ? No wander this world is going down the toilet
"No American should ever have his rights taken away if he has never been CONVICTED of a crime."
ps - Michael Jackson's dead. He has no more rights.
Funny that Michael Jackson has done more for music than any other entertainer in history, and videos, and has done more for charity and the world as a whole than Bono has ever done but no one remembers that.
I would be happy if we just got to kill off the millions of children and adults he helped feed, and the drug and alcohol addicts that his money and his own foundation helped to recover. Let's just kill them all off since obviously it didn't make a difference. I guess you can only be a humanitarian if you are some trashy Irish singer.
Let's see, oh yeah so what all you idiots are saying is that no one in history has ever settled with a large payment when they were innocent? I think you need to study history and the law before you open your mouths and remove all doubt that you are retarded.
And as for Nancy Pelosi, I don't care whether she passes it or not, but she is certainly not someone that anyone should ever look up to. Ugly, dishonest, and communist. No thank you, I prefer people who aren't better off dead.
"People keep stating in a matter of fact manner that he molested children. Well, the justice system and the constitution seem to say otherwise. "
Which part of the constitution states that Jacko wasn't a diddler?
Also drop the whole drug addict thing please. John Lennon, Farrah Fawcett, and many other celebrities that we have honored in one way or another were also all drug addicts with serious mental issues.
Finally, Pelosi does something right! From the look of most of these postings, half of America have lost their minds. This guy was was a sick individual, even to the point of denying his own skin color. He even made sure his children (?) were white. Open your eyes!! He may have been found not guilty of molestation one time, but what about the millions of $$ to shut up a victim and his family. Why would he do that if innocent? Shame on those parents, too. Why should our congress, or anyone for that matter, venerate a drug addict, child abuser and who knows what other kinds of perversion he was into? Because he had talent, everyone should forget about what a monster he really was? Imbeciles!
make him a good person.
Blind eyes you have... You do not speak with your heart but only with your evil soul. Many of good men have been persucated, have you not learned from your own mistakes, fools.
Michael Jackson is not the most important person in the history of American music, never mind music in general, by any stretch of the imagination. I could think of at least five people (John Lennon, Miles Davis, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Iggy Pop to be specific) from the twentieth century whose impact is far greater than Jackson's. I'm not saying he's a pedophile, I'm simply saying that there have been more important people in music than him.
Unbelievable!!! Since when do we get resolutions to honor pedophiles and drug addicts??? Was he a good performer? Maybe. So it’s up to the Music Hall of Fame or Grammy’s to honor MJ, not Congress. This is regardless of the color of his skin. Why are you even bringing up racism, when MJ himself wanted to be ‘white’? I’m not talking about his alleged ‘vitiligo’ but about all the surgeries he had done to change his features. He’s dead. Let’s all move on to more important things, please!!!
Perhaps they should also withdraw the resolution honoring the drug addict and pedophile Elvis (along with a separate resolution for Graceland)... you DID know he started dating Priscilla when he was 24 and she was 14, right?
While they're at it, they should revoke the Medal of Freedom they gave ol' blue eyes... Everyone knows he was in the mafia and a general mobster... Just because he was never convicted of it doesn't mean anything.
"Let's see, oh yeah so what all you idiots are saying is that no one in history has ever settled with a large payment when they were innocent? "
This is a fair argument. For those with tons of money, $22M isn't alot to make a scandle go away.
However, considering he spent $18M on his defense attorney in the second trial, the question must be asked. Was the extra $4M to settle really just to 'make it go away'?
If you are willing to spend $18M to clear your name, why spend $4M more and leave your name dirty?
Turning a blind eye to the truth doesn't make it any less of the truth folks.
I couldnt agree more with King. Yes it's said that a talented musician like MJ died, but aside from his talent, convicted or not, he is a child molester. You don't settle for $20,000,000 if you're innocent and you dont go on to say how it's ok to sleep in the same bed as little boys.
Everyday soldiers are dying overseas, they are the ones that should get the attention and have star studded funerals.
The whole idea is absurd. Who cares? Give me a break! Congress has way more important issues to deal with.
Why do conservatives always start spouting platitudes about the heroism of the armed services, police, and firemen when they're trying to make a point about something completely different? Michael Jackson? Sarah Palin's resignation? I don't get it. Yes, these people are heroes. Should we have constant television coverage of Firestation 17 in Worcester for 2 weeks straight on every channel?
Finally.
Congress does the right thing.
I can't believe how ignorant most of you people are..Michael Jackson is not a fukn child molester if he was there would have been way more accusations since he was always around kids. Child molesters don't just molest 2 kids in their lifetime. He would never harm a child. he was talking about heal the would way before ppl started worrying about global warming. You all should be ashamed of yourselves you make me want to vomit.
michael couldnot wipe elvis presleys but.look at the record sales the only artist in rock n roll history to sell over a billion record.so beat it
THE greatest performer in history?
I don't think so.
To "Tom" and anyone else who thinks we should "respect the dead,"
.....How much respect do you have for Sadam Hussein and Adolf Hitler?
Both are dead.
Both are worse than Michael Jackson, but they are still dead. Should we respect them too?
Everyone is so quick to label michael as a "lowlife, pervert, and child molester" in response to people's sympathy over his passing. First of all...a man has died. This man just so happened to be a musical icon and one hell of a performer. He has been an influence, someway or another, to everyone commenting on this blog. Let's not forget that he is a man, a father, a son, and a human being before battering him in light (or dark) of his death. When someone dies, you are supposed to celebrate their life, and many people are doing so by remembering him for his music, because first and foremost that is what he is, a musician. Just because there was much scrutiny at the end of his life does not take away from his talent and influence. Imagine if you were the most popular man on the planet and were constantly followed around by the public and the media...people watching every move you make. No wonder he went insane. We would all break. Not to mention he had 4 different skin diseases and lupus...so maybe he wasn't such a "freak" after all.
I think she did this because of her racist mentality...
HAHA to Dave post 31. By far the best comment on here...
Why do we keep electing idiots into political positions?
Jackson Lee is an idiot for proposing that the House honor Michael Jackson with a House Resolution (and also for saying that hurricanes should be named after African-Americans).
King is an idiot for disrespecting the recently deceased. The body isn't even in the ground and King is stomping on the grave.
On the plus side, Michael Jackson was an extremely talented musician and was involved in some of the most humanitarian aid of the 80's and 90's. On the negetive, he is an alledged pedophile. In his death, can we PLEASE stick to celebrating the entertainer and the great contributions he brought to pop music. Let's say goodbye to the King and move on from there. We do not need House Resolutions or grave stomping right now.
Idiots.
Michael Jackson was strange and had issues with drugs. Who doesn't know someone like that. Probably in their own family!!! Did he molest those kids? Only MJ, Chandler and Arvizo know. Settlements do not always imply guilt. Who wouldn't pay to make the media frenzy and the humiliation go away if they could afford it? For the record, Chandler's father sought a settlement first. If your child was truly molested, would you be complacent with $$? I wouldn't. I'd want the b@$t@rd in jail. Period. If you are going to question MJs motivations for the settlement, you have to question Chandler's father's motivations for seeking it. It is undeniable that MJs influence on performing arts world is far reaching. You'd be hard pressed to find a singer or dancer out there who doesn't site something of MJs as part of there training or inspiration. He also had a positive influence on people who aren't performers. All I am saying is that the alleged evil shouldn't outweigh the known good.
Poster#25 Elvis is truly a pervert to me, he courted his wife when she was only
14 years old, she is a child at that age. What's wrong with you people? Michael Jackson is one of the puriest person in hollywood and most other industry.
how about a resolution for the jackson 5.that would be a good compromise, and still give recognition to mj,before the pickadillios.
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS MICHAEL HAS DONE...THAT MAN HAS TRAVELED THE WORLD REACHING OUT TO KIDS DYING, SICK, LIVING IN POVERTY, JOINING HANDS OF DIFFERENT RACES NOT CARING ABOUT WHAT COLOR YOU ARE. ITS AMAZING THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY ARE IGNORANT ENOUGH TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY HEAR ON THE MEDIA. BUT KARMA IS A BITCH AND EVENTUALLY THOSE WHO TALKIN ALL THIS NEGATIVE SHYT ABOUT MIKE WILL REAP WHAT THEY SOW....I PROMISE. THAT MAN HAS DONE MORE FOR PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY AND ALL OVER THE WORLD THEN THE GOVERNMENT HAS EVER DONE. THAT MAN TRIED HIS DAMNEDEST TO MAKE POSITIVE CHANGES...BUT YOU IGNORANT FOOLS ONLY SEE HIM FOR WHAT YOU BEEN TOLD ABOUT HIS NEGATIVE ASPECTS. CUTE REALLY...BUT YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEE THE GOOD SIDE OF NOTHING BUT BAD POLITICIANS, AND CRUEL HUMAN BEINGS. YOU ALL ARE PATHETIC, SAD, I SENSE JEALOUSY AS WELL, BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO MAKE THE HEADLINES THE WAY MICHAEL DID NOR WILL YOU EVER AMOUNT TO EVEN HALF OF THE DECENT HUMAN BEING THAT HE WAS. PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE ME LAUGH.....OH I DO HAVE A REQUEST....MR. O'REILLY AND MR. KING DO ME AND THE MAJORITY OF THIS AMERICAN POPULATION A FAVOR AND DIE!!!
Poster #20, Sam, it is even more sad and miserable for me when I see you support what Nancy and that stupid Peter King's suggestion or comments about
Michael Jackson. Something wrong with you, indeed we are not agreeable.
how can all you people call him a child molester when he was aquitted???? AQUITTED!!! SINCE WHEN IS THE USA PEOPLE ARE FOUND GUILTY BEFORE PROVEN INNOCENT!!!! I AM SO SICK OF YOU RACIST JEALOUS PEOPLE!!!! WHY CAN'T U LEAVE HIM ALONE AND THE REST OF THE WORLD WHO LOVED HIM SO MUCH..... I HOPE THE DAY NEVER COMES THAT SOMEONE ACCUSES YOU WRONGLY AND EVERYONE BELEIVES IT JUST CUZ SOMEONE SAID SO.... THEN NO ONE WILL REALLY CARE IF YOUR INNOCENT OR NOT.... WHY DON'T YOU GROW THE F%@K UP!!!!
Not guilty. Did not have time to grow up so longed for the nesting attributes that he described when he wanted to share his bed with children. I did not get it then, but I get it now. He just wanted, needed to stay a child longer, to have those bonds that most of us experience when we are younger. Elvis was also Great, but thats comparing apples to oranges, Elvis had a childhood. I can think of numerous things that I have been accused of and those things are false. I am sure everyone has been wrongly accussed at least once in their life. Times that by his stardom and you get disaster. Continuing with your finger pointing and self rightousness is only Lying to yourselves. RIP Prince of Peace, King of Pop, Protector of Earth. Talk to the hand all the rest, wanna bes.
When I read about this proposed resolution, I felt practically dizzy with disgust and amazement. I cannot believe the madness has come to this. The poor Democratic congresswoman from Texas has made a fool of herself.
I think Michael Jackson was one of the most talented people of his generation-- he was phenomenally gifted. But to bother the government about it-- Inane.
I feel very discouraged that there are people in Congress who even begin to think this way.
Michael Jackson was found not guilty. These people act like they were in the room watching him molest someone. Like they were actually there. They just want to say something bad about him and hope that it's true. Too bad it isn't. One thing I do know...we have honored men who have done lots worse than Jackson. For example, Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, who did actually molest a child, a child named Sally Hemings and fathered children with her. Yet, he's on the 2 dollar bill, the nickel, and has a memorial, and his house, Monticello is a museum! Peter King isn't concerned about that, only Jackson! King stinks!
I'm for the resolution, but I don't think it's being brought forward solely because Michael Jackson was a fantastic entertainer. One can certainly argue that his prowess at song and dance made him a pre-eminent practitioner of the uniquely American art form of musical theatre and that he served as an important preserver of the traditions of musical theatre at a time when Broadway and its stars were being ravaged by AIDS. As such, I believe that had he lived he would have eventually received Kennedy Center Honors or even the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress.
No, I believe Michael Jackson's non-musical influence on this country was even more tremendous than his obvious musical gifts -- he was the living, breathing hope of an entire generation of African American children growing up in the 1960s. Sure, the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr & Malcolm X led the way in breaking down the legal barriers that kept us from our civil rights -- but Michael Jackson and his brothers more than any others gave us African-American kids real hope that we could compete, we could be the very best, we could cross-over, we would succeed, we could take it when other people said things about us that we knew to be false and we could make our own reality and define our own dreams. If you don't think that message is worth honoring, then shame on you all.
Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five (or Nine or Ten, depending on which article you were reading) were my generation's Miley, Britney, Justin, Christina, Beyonce, Usher and all the Jonas Brothers rolled up into one. He was all we had -- the rest of Motown was just a little two old for us -- and oh, how we loved him. We loved seeing him at the Oscars, the Grammys, on MTV, in Jet Magazine, on the cover of Ebony, on our lunchboxes, on our albums, on our eight-tracks and everywhere. We tried to sing like Michael. We tried to dance like Michael. All of us girls -- we wanted to marry Michael. And somehow, we secretly knew that he wanted to marry each and everyone of us. We found common ground with people in the larger world by talking about his work and occasionally rolling our eyes at the thought that Donny Osmond and his purple socks were even on the same planet.
As for those that believe that he was a pedophile all I can say is that no matter how biased the legal system surely is, and no matter how strange his behavior was the fact remains that no accuser prevailed against him in a court of law and that people are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. I take great offense at those who label him a pedophile because truly, he is innocent under our laws and to label him a molester is to say that our laws don't matter. The accounts of his behavior were strange to me, but no more strange than Elizabeth Taylor's multiple marriages or Tom Cruise jumping over a couch or Marlon Brando's obesity -- but then I don't know the details of what happened in any of their personal lives to make their choices seem reasonable to them. I do believe his boundaries were terribly violated as a child and like many adults who have that kind of encroachment in their past, he clearly had trouble setting his own boundaries. What I do believe is that only when I have perfect knowledge will I be able to make perfect judgements, but until then it is wisest to be gracious and generous in thought, words and deeds.
As for those who insist on repeating the cruel comments about his skin color and the shape of his nose you should know that you are demonstrating by your own behavior the most ignorant parts of the American pre-occupation with race and appearance. There are diseases that change your pigment. Adolescents can be scarred by life by cruel comments about their changing physical apparence. There is an unhealthy beauty standard that makes some people prejudge the talent of those who look odd or strange. What I believe is that no one would alter their appearance to look like "a freak" unless the alternatives (the vitiligo, the burnt scalp, the broken nose, being recognized everywhere you go) were unbearabley worse. You will never understand the pain it must have cost this sensitive soul simply to walk, much less dance and sing, among so many people who judged him so harshly and so often.
Let this talented, brave and tortured man rest in peace. And may his children and his family always be proud of all that he did in his life and all that he meant to others live on. It is time to let the mean-spirited gossip die away.
MJ was NOT a child molester.
I strongly believe he cared about children, but when you have money hungry parents that seek out any opportunity to sue and get money, they will, no matter what it does to the person's reputation. MJ had a viewing section in his home just for sick children that couldn't watch a regular movie. He cared, maybe too much.
Because sometimes when you care so much, people will take the opportunity to use it against you, just like in MJ's case.
Michael..you were a kind, gentle person. I feel sorry for the close minded lame haters who couldn't see that themselves
For ppl that don't know the first boy the accuse michael jackson has said that his father made him said that. The second accustion ended up with a not guilty verdict. So where do you come off calling him a pervert and child molester. Know your facts before you speak smh.
Why should he get a resolution in Congress when the taxpayers of California (which btw is issuing IOUs) had to foot the bill for his funeral? Isn't that enough?
What's happening to this country?? Spending time in Congress honoring some low life pedophile, pervert, drug addict ,esp when this country is in the doldrums economically?? Just because he was found not guilty doesn't mean he was innocent. OJ Simpson was found innocent. Robert Blake was found innocent. Kobe Bryant was found innocent. Phil Spector was found innocent in the first trial before being convicted in the second trial. Truth is the rich and famous can buy "justice" for themselves since they have the money for the the high priced lawyers, expert witnesses, etc. That's a sad fact in the American justice system
Here you are all again trying to discredit him again. I feel he was a great person and performer. He deserves to be honored for his great accomplishments. He was acquitted of all charges and would never had hurt a child. He was a great father also. I think pelosi is just going with the rest of the narrow minded people. She can't stand up on her own two feet. Oh well he is in a better place now and not having to deal with all this mess again. I hope you all never a judged wrong and have to try and clear your name, we all know there is alot of innocent people in prison now most of them are black because it's easy to blame the black man, We see it alot in the news now. RIP Michael U are Missed.
Wait...wasn't Jackson found NOT Guilty by a jury of his peers in the same system congress and such are supposed to support? King is a racist and. Oh and someone tell Pelosi that women's volleyball is not supposed to be honored. Oh wait, she passed that resolution.
Just because M.J. was found not guilty by a jury doesn't mean he was innocent.
OJ Simpson was found not guilty but does anyone think someone else killed his wife?
Robert Blake was found not guilty but does anyone think someone else shot his wife?
Kobe Byrant was found not guilty of rape but does anyone think he was innocent?
Phil Spector was found not guilty of killing a women in the first trial before being convicted in the second trial.
The rich and famous can buy "justice" in the country. Just because M.J. could sing doesn't mean he couldn't be a pervert.
SLJ has to represent just exactly what is wrong with the people we send to Washington.
In this period of time in our nation's history when we have the internal economic chaos surrounding us - with our attempt to wage a 'containment battle' (can't use the term 'war' since Obama is absolutely against that, ref: his campaign speeces)-unemployment at the highest level in 30 years - the federal government taking over and dictating private industries (banks, auto, Wall Street, housing, insurance and next comes health care) we now have the absolute perfect example of stupidity, Rep. Jackson of Houston.
How much of the taxpayer's money did this woman spend on her flight to L.A. from Washington, D.C.? Why isn't she in D.C. where she belongs attending to the needs of her constituents and the nation?
If this resolution gets any further then I want someone in the House to propose a resolution for the following 'entertainers': Glenn Miller (died in a plane crash and never found entertaining the troops in Europe during WWll) - Lawrence Welk - Benny Goodman - Tommy Dorsey - Bob Hope and Bing Crosby and endless others.
Oh, but I blew it!!! These are not people of color. Sorry about that.
Michael Jackson deserves a resolution!! He's helped sooo many people..he deserves it. no matter what everyone says he derseves it!!!!!
To paraphrase a writer much more clever than I:
"Suicide can be a good career move."
That was clearly the case with Michael Jackson.....His talents were eclipsed by his flaws.
Thanks to the following writers who clearly can analyze his life with some wit and intelligence:
Irish-lad, Jeannie, Sam , especially 'Tardo Ricardo'--brilliant, dude !
Also, the loquacious 'Everyone please, just SHUT UP !!! ', CCooper, etc.,
-----and many others.
So sad Jackson chose to waste such a high percentage of his gifts on tawdry personal pecadillos.

i would like to comment on Representative Peter King's remarks about Michael Jackson. I am really confused why he's making such remarks about Michael when his case was already tried and dismissed in court. Is the decision of the jury not enough to say that the man is innocent or atleast not proven to be guilty?
No matter how much you dislike Michael, you can never take away the fact that he has done so much humanitarian act, far more than most people in the United States of America.
